Do you like doing exercise? Do you want to know the benefits from the exercise? Let’s learn something about exercise.
Exercise is any action that gets you moving. You can run, ride a bike, swim, jump rope or row a boat. It’s all good for you! There are three kinds of exercise. One is stretching (拉伸). You may do this in dance, yoga or at the gym. When you stretch, you keep your muscles (肌肉) bendable (可弯曲的).
Aerobic exercise (有氧运动) makes your heart beat fast. You get this kind of exercise when you walk or run. Your heart beats fast when you swim, too. The last kind of exercise makes your muscles strong. You build strong muscles when you lift weights. When you sprint or run fast, you make your muscles strong, too.
You get exercise when you play tag and hide and seek. Leapfrog and ball games are also good to do. So go outside and have fun! If you keep on doing exercise, you will know the more exercise you do, the healthier and happier you will be.
21.What happens to your muscles when you stretch?

Depression(抑郁症)in young adult males, ages 18 or 19, is linked to a 20% greater risk of having a heart attack in middle age, according to a new Swedish study.
The link can be partly explained by poorer stress resilienc(e 抗压能力)and lower physical fitness among teens with mental disorders.
The research included 238,013 men born between 1958 and 1962 who were given examinations in
adolescence(青春期)and were then followed into middle age(up to the age of 58 years). A total of 34,503 men were diagnosed(诊断)with a mental disorder.
The study found that a mental disorder in young adulthood was linked to a higher risk of having heart attack by middle age. Compared to men without a mental illness in young adulthood, the risk of heart attack was 20%higher among men with a diagnosis.
“We already knew that men who were physically fit in adolescence seem less likely to keep fitness in later years if they have low stress resilience,” said study author Dr. Bergh, “Our research has also shown that low stress resilience is also connected with a greater tendency towards bad behavior, such as higher risks of smoking, drinking and other drug use.”
“Better fitness in adolescence is likely to help protect against later heart disease, particularly if people stay fit as they age. Physical activities may also reduce some of the bad effects of stress. Those in poor health could benefit from additional support to encourage exercise and develop plans to deal with stress,” said Bergh.
24.How does the author develop paragraph 3?
A.By giving examples. B.By listing figures.
C.By making a comparison. D.By drawing a conclusion.
25.What are men with low stress resilience likely to do?
A.Smoke more. B.Eat more. C.Sleep less. D.Do less exercise.
26.What will Bergh agree with according to the last paragraph?
A.Physical activities add to stress.
B.Stress may cause heart disease.
C.Taking exercise is unnecessary.
D.Staying fit is of great importance.
27.In which section of a newspaper may this text appear?
A.Entertainment. B.Health. C.Education. D.Fashion.

Daniel Matthews is a paramedic (急救医) in the province of New Brunswick, Canada. He keeps a busy schedule, working 12-hour shifts, sometimes during the day and sometimes at night.
When he and his partner arrive for a shift, “we first have to go through a ‘truck check’ to see that the ambulance has all the necessary equipment,” Matthews tells Your Hot Job. “Once we’re ready to go, we’re given a post.” Then he and his partner respond to 911 calls made from that area.
Emergency calls require a quick response. “When our medical dispatch (派遣) center receives the 911 call, they send it to a phone that we carry,” Matthews says. The phone has all the information he and his partner need about the type of emergency they’re responding to.
A paramedic’s job is unpredictable. You go from relaxing to rushing to an emergency. “It can be difficult, sitting in a chair one minute, and the next, you will be on the side of a highway doing CPR,” Matthews says.
As for the emergency, Matthews mentions that “In the winter, we respond to car accidents due to bad weather or winter sports accidents.” In the summer, there are calls about shortness of breath due to heat, as well as recreational vehicle (旅行房车) accidents.
Matthews never knows what kind of emergency he’ll face. So he has to be ready for anything. Being a first responder “comes more naturally for me and many paramedics, as we often remain calm in these situations,” he says. “Not everybody has a personality that can remain calm for a job like this.” A paramedic’s work can be stressful. Staying centered and controlling your emotions are important for this job. It isn’t just about saving lives, Matthews says. It’s about treating patients with respect. Staying calm is a big part of being able to help people when they’re scared or hurt.
28.What does Matthews first do when he arrives for a shift?
A.He responds to 911 calls.
B.He checks the equipment.
C.He makes his own schedule.
D.He shares tasks with his partner.
29.What does the underlined word “unpredictable” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Risky. B.Boring. C.Uncertain. D.Underpaid.
30.What can we infer about emergencies in paragraph 5?
A.They change with the seasons.
B.They take up a lot of energy.
C.They threaten the safety of paramedics.
D.They require paramedics to develop various interests.
31.What does Matthews mention about being a paramedic in the last paragraph?
A.It is a job that not many people are aware of.
B.It requires specific training.
C.It is a pleasant experience for everyone.
D.It requires them to be prepared at all times.

As Alexandria Country Day School’s sixth-graders created small 3D-printed villages to deal with
homelessness, they learned lessons beyond technology (科技).
The project which was inspired by life-size 3D-printed homes built by a Texas-based technology company, aimed to make housing accessible for everyone. Using inexpensive materials the students built strong homes in just a few days.
11-year-old Salwa Seman and Zoe Mandel, found creating settings challenging but worthwhile. “If the temperature of the printer is too hot or cold, or if the printed walls are tooth in, the constructions might fail,” said Salwa Seman. “You learn from your mistakes and make adaptations,” said Zoe Mandel.
The tech-focused project quickly developed into “an exercise in understanding, creation, and partnership to bring about lasting change,” said science teacher Alison McDonald. “When most people think of helping the homeless, they think of food and clothing,” said Juliet Galicia, 11. While necessary, those are solutions only for the moment. Even housing alone is not a full answer.
“We wanted to include other things that would make it feel more like a real community,” said Luke Wazorko, 11. A community garden, a place to raise chickens, a stadium for shared events, bus stops for access to jobs, and service for Wi-Fi and cellphones to help with job searches were important features offered to formerly unhoused residents.
“They get it!” said Amber Fogarty, president of a nonprofit organization helping homelessness in Austin. “The biggest reason for long-term homelessness is a serious lack in family relationships,” she said. “Housing alone will never solve homelessness, but community will People need a place where they are known, cared and loved.”
32.What is the aim of the project on 3D-printed villages?
A.To raise money for the homeless.
B.To win a competition on 3D printing.
C.To teach students advanced technology.
D.To provide accommodation for the homeless.
33.What lesson does Salwa and Zoe’s experience tell us?
A.Courage contributes to success.
B.Challenges help us progress.
C.Teamwork ensures glory.
D.Well begun is half done.
34.According to the text, how can homelessness be fully solved?
A.By donating food and clothing.
B.By providing high-tech shelters.
C.By building open gardening space.
D.By creating a supportive environment.
35.Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Future of Housing: Tech Giants’ Role
B.Modem Architecture: a Long Way to Go
C.A Common Dream: Story of City Planning
D.A Shared Community: Young Minds at Work

How to survive exam stress
Exam time is one of the most stressful in school, whether it is high school, college or graduate school. ____________36_________ .Below, I have put together my top four tips for coping with and conquering exam stress!
FIND WHERE YOU WORK BEST
Finding the perfect place to work is the most difficult part of this process in my opinion.
________________37___________.
No one place will be perfect for everyone! Be it a busy café, on the floor of your room, sat on a bench in the Downs, or in one of the libraries, a good place to work is the first step in coping with exam stress and being productive.
ORGANISE, ORGANISE, ORGANISE
My biggest tip is that organizing your time, creating a work schedule, and keeping on top of lectures and extra readings from the very start of the academic year will immensely reduce exam stress. I know organization does not come naturally to everyone. __________38_____________. You’ll be surprised how much more confident you feel when you get to the exam period if you have an organized work routine!
REST AND REWARD
The Pomodoro technique (番茄时间管理法) is very popular and efficient! Set an alarm for 25 minutes, start working, and then rest for 5 minutes. _____________39_____________. After you feel you have done enough work for the day, then a good way to stay motivated to continue studying tomorrow is to reward yourself. You could binge-watch your favourite TV show, go to the gym, nap, get your favourite sweet snack, or go out for a drink with friends.
CONFIDE (吐露心声) IN SOMEONE
When I’m feeling most stressed, my instinct is to keep it inside and not tell anyone — I don’t want
people to know that I am struggling. __________40____________. Even just explaining how you feel or what you’re actually stressed about to someone can be incredibly relieving and clears your mind.
These are only four ways to help survive exam stress, but try and find what works best for you.
Remember that what your friends do may be the opposite of what you need. Good luck!
A.Even the best students in your school feel the stress.
B.With the right amount of hard work and focus you can pass your exams easily.
C.If so, making small to-do lists or using a planner can also make such a big difference.
D.You can repeat this process 4-6 times and then have a longer break or even grab some food.
E.Catch up with your studies a couple nights before, and you can save the final night to get a good night’s sleep.
F.It often goes unnoticed that the environment we are in when we work impacts our productivity to a great extent.
G.But reaching out to family or friends about how overwhelmed I felt, how I thought I was going to fail was so helpful.

66.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I was a freshman in high school, eager to start a new chapter in my life. Little did I knew that my
journey would be marked by an unexpected friendship. My desk mate, Tom, was a stutterer (结巴). Sometimes, it made me really uncomfortable.
The first day of school was exciting. I found my seat and settled in, only to be greeted by a nervous
stutter from my deskmate. “H-Hello, I’m T-Tom,” he said. I tried to be polite. But inside, I felt embarrassed (尴 尬). I was worried about how his stuttering would affect me, especially during class discussions. I avoided him as much as possible, not wanting to be associated with the awkwardness he seemed to bring.
One day, during a particularly challenging math class, I was struggling to understand a complex problem. The teacher, Mrs. Lee, noticed my confusion and asked if I needed help. Before I could answer, Tom spoke up. “I-I-I-I can help,” he offered, his stutter became mere noticeable under the pressure. To my surprise, he explained the problem clearly, and I began to see him in a new light. His intelligence and kindness shone
through his stutter, and I felt guilty (内疚的) for my previous behavior.
As the weeks went by, I started to pay more attention to Tom. My friends noticed the change and asked
about it. I shared my initial dislike and later admiration for Tom. They encouraged me to give him a chance, reminding me that everyone has their struggles. My parents, too, noticed my shift in attitude and discussed the importance of empathy and understanding. They told me about the times they faced difficulties, showing me that everyone has strengths beyond what people might see as weaknesses.
The turning point in our relationship came during the school’s annual talent show. Tom, despite his fear of public speaking, decided to take part in it.

书面表达
66. He chose to recite a poem he had written. As he stepped onto the stage, I could see his hands shaking and his face turning red. But he took a deep breath and began. His stutter was still there, but his voice was filled with so much emotion and determination. The audience was silent, listening intently. When he finished, the room erupted in thunderous applause. I was on my feet, clapping the loudest, tears welling up in my eyes.
After the talent show, Tom and I became close friends. I no longer cared about his stutter but focused on the wonderful person he was inside. We studied together, shared our dreams and fears. I learned that true friendship isn’t about surface appearances or speech, but about accepting and supporting each other unconditionally. Through Tom, I grew to be a more understanding and compassionate person. I realized that everyone has their battles to fight and that kindness and acceptance can make a world of difference in someone’s life.
