Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
When Amanda Lemay heard the story about a baker and his wife who were traveling around the United States in a van, learning from expert bakers, she wanted to do something similar. So she got rid of most of her possessions and made an old ambulance with her dad into a lovely home on wheels.
Lemay's ambulance is actually a former emergency response vehicle for the US Navy, built on a 2006 Ford E350 Cutaway.Renovations were done by her and her dad.Now the dark blue vehicle has a lot of builtin cabinets on all sides, offering a lot of storage space, while the rooftop has 400watts of solar power panels and a small roof deck where Lemay practices yoga. The inside is tastefully done to suit Lemay's work and hobbies.
As Lemay mentions, not only did her father help, but so did the rest of her family.Lemay's mother helped sew the decorations on the removable cushions, and her sister crafted the leather pulls. It was truly a family affair.
Her current nomadic lifestyle fits well with her work doing audiobooks, voiceovers, and publishing work.In the end, this unexpected path has Lemay rethinking what it means to be truly sustainable, now that van life has gotten her to become minutely aware of the water, electricity, and other daily resources that she uses. But all these daytoday concerns are balanced with a greater sense of freedom.
“It's almost mindblowing,it feels like a completely different life because I'm doing the work online, and I can do things on my own schedule.Pretty much most of my days are mine—so by living in the van,I can be where I want to be,and do the things I want to do,and spend time outside.”

By now,we all know that the planet is facing more environmental disasters, with quicktodisintegrate (快速瓦解的) fast fashion clothing and the industry that creates it a major reason.Need proof? Just look at the 60,000 tonnemountain of poisonous and thrownaway clothing that is visible from space.
Now,France is taking steps to resist the supercharged way we consume clothes, with the country recently announcing it will pay all citizens a “repair bonus” for taking their clothes in to get fixed rather than throwing them in the bin.
Beginning in October, citizens who bring their clothes in for repairs will be able to claim back aDC= 6 toDC= 25 bonus, with the total payment depending on the complexity of the repair. All bonuses will be paid from aDC= 154 million sustainability fund the government has set aside for the next five years.
By calling on people to take their items to get fixed, the government hopes to cut fast fashion waste throughout the country and encourage customers to purchase more “virtuous” products. In other words: the government is begging you to fix your clothes, rather than continuously overconsuming the products of fast fashion sites like Shein or Boohoo.
“It could encourage exactly the people who have bought, for example, shoes from a brand that makes goodquality shoes or likewise goodquality readytowear clothes to want to have them fixed instead of getting rid of them,” explained France's junior ecology minister Bérangère Couillard, who announced the programme in Paris.“That is exactly the objective,to create a recycling economy for shoes and clothes so that products last longer, because in government we believe in the second life of a product.”
She also shared hopes that the programme will increase employment for French tailors and shoemakers.“The goal is to support those who carry out repairs,” she explained, while inviting all repair shops to join in the campaign for free.
