B Sylvain Saudan’s skiing was so alarmingly ambitious that people struggled to believe his accomplishments were real. The Swiss extreme skiing pioneer became the first to successfully rush down the Spencer Couloir’s 55-degree slope(斜坡) — with more than 200 turns, at speeds close to freefall on France’s Aiguille de Blaitière mountain in 1967. Locals didn’t trust that he’d really done it until a plane flew over the mountain and took photos of his ski tracks. Nicknamed the “skier of the impossible,” Saudan sought out slopes from the Himalayas to the Alps, often reaching the peaks by helicopter. But in 1982, he climbed for 25 days to reach the 26,500-foot summit of Pakistan’s Gasherbrum I, searching for virgin areas in its natural state. “The first to dare something are the real adventurers,” he said in 2016. “It’s the first that counts.” Raised on a farm in the Alps, Saudan didn’t have the resources to train as a competitive skier, and worked as a laborer and truck driver before becoming a ski instructor. Teaching through icy winters in Scotland helped prepare him for deadly slopes. After skiing the Spencer Couloir, he spent two decades “seeking greater challenges and testing new methods,” said The Washington Post. He developed a new skiing style and introduced equipment innovations for steep slopes, but ignored safety precautions as he shot down Oregon’s Mount Hood, Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro, and Nepal’s Dhaulagiri. Saudan completed his last major expedition in 1986 by skiing down Mount Fuji on bare rocks, walking away without a single cut. He “spent his life challenging gravity, avalanches, and obituary(讣告) writers,” said The New York Times. He insisted that mental preparation helped keep fear cornered, yet death was never far from his mind. “There’s really only one way out,” he said: “Don’t fall down.” 24. How did people react to Saudan’s achievement on the Spencer Couloir’s 55-degree slope? A. They thought of him as a skiing pioneer. B. They considered it as a fault at once. C. They were ignorant of it completely. D. They doubted it till evidence arrived. 25. Which of the following can best describe Saudan? A. Brave and generous. B. Adventurous and devoted. C. Creative but timid. D. Reserved but famous. 26. Why did Saudan go skiing? A. To escape his past life as a laborer. B. To push himself to new limits. C. To document adventures for fame. D. To test new skiing equipment. 27. What does The New York Times imply about Saudan? A. He faced extreme dangers in his career. B. He was cautious during his expeditions. C. His skiing methods were widely accepted. D. His achievements were often questioned. C The Sahara Desert is unsurprisingly seen as a wasteland. But actually there is a variety of life forms, according to André Vicente Liz, a doctoral candidate at the University of Porto in Portugal, who led a study exploring Saharan animal species. In the desert, cold-blooded creatures grow well because their body temperatures adjust to the temperature of their surroundings as they move from intense sunlight into cool underground holes. Liz has observed many small lizard(蜥蜴) species along with snakes, beetles, ants, and even frogs. Besides them, antelopes, camels, cheetahs and desert foxes are just some of the warm-blooded animals that can survive in the Sahara. But what leads to the vast biodiversity of the Sahara? One factor is the big changes in the desert’s climate. About 6,000 years ago, there was abundant rainfall in certain areas of the Sahara. Grasslands and lakes made ideal living places for animals and humans. Due to climate changes, the grasslands changed to a desert later, which made it impossible for humans to exist there. However, many animals still survived there. Another one is its diverse landscapes. There are some areas, such as rock pools known as “gueltas”, where biodiversity is especially high because they act as shelter for species that have to flee from their habitats due to a sudden, intolerable change in weather. In the face of climate change, Liz and his colleagues are studying “gueltas” closely to find out what makes them good spots for survival. “These areas are known as gathering places for biodiversity and are especially interesting for conservation planning in the current context of climate emergency, where they can play a key role in supporting various species,” Liz said. Deserts may seem lifeless, but in fact many species have developed special ways to survive in the tough environments. 28. What did Liz find about the Sahara Desert? A. It is home to diverse creatures. B. It has rows of underground holes. C. It is experiencing a great change in climate. D. It has a longer history than previously thought. 29. Why can “gueltas” act as shelter? A. They are abundant in life forms. B. They are usually near animals’ habitats. C. They are less affected by climate change. D. They are rock pools with high biodiversity. 30. What does André Vicente Liz probably think of studying “gueltas”? A. Boring. B. Meaningful. C. Challenging. D. Creative. 31. Which of the following shows the structure of the whole text? A. ①-②③-④⑤ B. ①②③-④⑤ C. ①-②-③④-⑤ D. ①②-③④⑤ D Have you ever worried that you might smell bad? Well, you do have a smell, but not in the way you think. The human body releases hundreds of chemical compounds into the air every day, and these compounds reveal much more than just our health habits; they can also indicate our health situations. In 1971, chemist Linus Pauling identified 250 different gaseous chemicals in our breath, known as VOCs. These VOCs originate from the body’s metabolic(新陈代谢) processes and are excreted(排泄) through skin glands. While sweat contributes to these VOCs, it only accounts for a small portion of them. VOCs can reveal a lot about our health. For example, a sweet-smelling breath could be a sign of diabetes. Besides breath, VOCs are also released from our skin, and feces(粪便). A notable case involved Joy Milne, who noticed a change in her husband’s smell 12 years before he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Known as “the woman who can smell Parkinson’s,” Joy has been using her keen sense of smell to help scientists develop a simple swab(拭子) test to diagnose the illnesses. Animals with advanced sense of smell, like dogs, have demonstrated they can detect various types of cancer in humans. Although these smells are often undetectable to the human nose, they provide evidence that our bodies emit different smells when something is wrong. The relationship between VOCs and our health is still being studied. Studies have already shown that they can predict a person’s age within a few years based on their skin VOC profile. In one interview, Professor Morin stated, “We are at a relatively early stage in this research area, but we have already distinguished males from females based on the acidity of skin VOCs. We believe skin VOCs can reveal aspects of who we are, such as nutrition, health and stress. These signatures likely contain markers that can be used to diagnose disease.” So, who knows — maybe one day we will be able to detect diseases simply by breathing into a device. 32. What do we know about the VOCs according to the text? A. Skin VOCs reveal more about our health conditions. B. The VOCs mostly come from sweat. C. VOCs only released from our skin can indicate health status. D. Our body’s metabolic processes are the source of VOCs. 33. Why does the author mention animals in Paragraph 4? A. To show the amazing wisdom of animals. B. To stress we must depend on pets more to detect cancer. C. To explain VOCs have the capability to cure cancers. D. To highlight VOCs’ potential as diagnostic markers. 34. What future technology might arise from the understanding of VOCs? A. Equipment that can analyze VOCs to diagnose diseases. B. Devices that can breathe out disease-causing VOCs. C. Advanced facilities that can use VOCs to cure diseases. D. Personalized perfumes that can mask disease-related VOCs. 35. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. Morin’s Contributions to VOCs B. The Function of Sweat in Our Health C. Detecting Diseases Through Body Smells D. Body Smell Resulting in Diseases 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Life is filled with numerous victories and downfalls; what matters is how you tackle each situation. Whether it is your schooling or a serious life struggle, we must learn to turn the page and change our life for the better. 36 You might find yourself in a dead end. 37 This will help you mark your future decisions. Everything that you faced until now was just a part of the problem and everything that comes after the line will be part of the solution. Don’t take the whole thing as suffering; instead, it is a learning experience. Make sure that you won’t let anything hold you back and will try to be better each day. When handling a tough situation, you may need some extra help. Connect with people that have gone through the same trials as you have. During the interactions, you will notice the different patterns which made them successful. 38 Their experiences are beneficial to uplifting your spirit and truly help you out. Another amazing approach is to make sensible and favorable choices for yourself. Engaging in battles and struggles is going to be very hard. 39 Picture your goals in your mind and make sensible steps towards them with each passing day. Remember to do what actually works and make sure that nothing stands in your way. The past is a part of your history, but not a part of your destiny. Life moves on and so should we. 40 The new chapter of your life is coming for you. A. Now it’s your turn to think outside the box. B. We must forgive ourselves to begin the next chapter. C. Here’s how you can create a new chapter in your life. D. What you can do in this situation is draw a mental line. E. However, giving up and being stuck in pain will be even harder. F. Let your tears and sweat water the seeds of your future happiness. G. Such self-confidence is a rarity in big-budget games, 56 concerns about mainstream acceptability often inspire fear instead. Thanks to its advanced graphics, Black Myth: Wukong looks 57 it belonged to the blockbusters(大片), but this action game is actually the product of a Chinese game developer, Game Science. The game originated from the 16th-century East Asian novel, Journey to the West. You play as a stone monkey, Sun Wukong — or at least a character based on him; 58 it actually is Wukong is left up to interpretation. In the original story, Wukong is said 59 (possess) incredible strength and speed. He can also make copies of himself, too. Wukong is not an open-world game: there’s no mini map 60 (dot) with tasks. Every new area comes with the possibility of getting lost, but the line between anxiety and excitement is thin. Wukong captures the charm of exploration better than games that show off the illusion of vastness, only to reduce their impressive world 61 a collection of map icons. 62 (minimize) the menu time envelops you more thoroughly in the marvelous landscapes. Deservedly, Black Myth: Wukong has been enormously successful. Journey to the West is a tale with a proven track record, but in the late decades no other adaptations of the novel 63 (sell) 10 million copies in the span of just a few days. For some westerners, it seems to have come as a surprise that a game like this could come from a country known for mobile games. It is as if the weight of an entire country’s cultural export has been placed on a developer 64 practically nobody would even have been able to name prior to this game’s release, and Game Science is clearly unused to the scrutiny(审视) it has received. But to look at Black Myth: Wukong purely through the lens of market sizes and tastes 65 (be) a harm that hides the most critical fact of all: it’s a fantastic game. 参考词汇: 《红楼梦》:Dream of the Red Chamber 《三国演义》:The Romance of the Three Kingdoms 《水浒传》:Water Margin 《西游记》:Journey to the West Dear Selena, Yours, Li Hua 第二节(满分25分) 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 In the golden mist of late summer, Frank and John, two inseparable friends, set off on an adventure they had particularly planned for weeks: a camping trip by the river. The air was filled with excitement as they packed their backpacks with essentials — tents, cookers, and a map, though they were confident in their knowledge of the area, having explored its boundaries since childhood. As the sun began its fall, casting long shadows across the green landscape, they arrived at their chosen spot — a quiet bend in the river, far from civilization’s noisiness. They set up camp, and the crackling of the campfire and the gentle lapping of water against the shore were their only companions. Under a starry sky, they shared stories and dreams, unaware that their comfortable escape was about to take a dangerous turn. The following morning, as they ventured deeper into the woods to gather firewood, the sky, which had been clear and blue, turned frightening, with heavy clouds gathering. In the distance, a low, powerful, rolling thunder echoed(回响) through the valley, a warning they should have noticed. Not frightened, they continued, their laughter now was drowned out by the growing roar(咆哮) of the river. It happened swiftly. A wall of water, caused by the storm, rushed down the river, catching them off guard. In a heartbeat, their return path was cut off, the once familiar place was transformed into a maze(迷宫) of rushing currents and mudslides. Panic rose within them, but Frank, always the calmer of the two, remembered a survival tip from his father: “When lost or in danger, stay put if possible, assess your resources, and think reasonably.” With the river too dangerous to cross, they came back to higher ground, seeking shelter beneath a rocky overhang. As the rain pounded down, they gathered together, their spirits dampened but not defeated. John remembered another crucial lesson: using natural resources for survival. He suggested they start a fire using dry leaves and branches they had collected before the storm and they managed to light a small flame, providing warmth and a light of hope. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 The new sunrise brought new challenges and opportunities for Frank and John to prove their courage. The next day, as hope was beginning to fade, a rescue helicopter appeared. 56. where 57. as if/as though 58. whether 59. to possess 60. dotted 61. to/into 62. I’d like to recommend “Dream of the Red Chamber”, one of China’s Four Great Classical Novels. This novel is renowned for its intricate plot, rich characterizations, and poetic language, making it a timeless exploration of human nature. Reading it will provide you with a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and history. I invite you to visit China and experience our rich cultural heritage in person. Immersing yourself in the local culture, visiting ancient sites, and tasting authentic cuisine will truly enhance your understanding. Looking forward to discussing your thoughts on “Dream of the Red Chamber”. Yours, Li Hua 第二节 The new sun rise brought new challenges and opportunities for Frank and John to prove their courage. They crafted fishing hooks from bent wires found among their scattered belongings, cleverly attaching them to flexible branches to catch fish in the running river. The day was also marked by tireless efforts to signal for help, arranging branches and rocks into massive arrows that pointed toward their location, hoping these markers would catch the eye of a passing aircraft. Frank, with his keen observation skills, noticed patterns in the helicopter search patterns, suggesting they move closer to the riverbank during flyovers, increasing their chances of being spotted. The next day, as hope was beginning to fade, a rescue helicopter appeared. The bright clothes they had hung between trees and the persistent smoke from their controlled fire served as a signal in the wilderness. As they were airlifted to safety, Frank and John looked at each other, their eyes reflecting a newfound appreciation for life, friendship, and the power of preparation and quick thinking in the face of disaster. The adventure was also a reminder that even in the most unexpected and dangerous circumstances, there is always a way out — if one remains calm, resourceful, and never loses sight of hope. $$现在是试音时间。Hello, international friends club.
