Blogging① Australia
1 Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Lauren Elizabeth Pirie Bath.Until a few years ago I was a chef②,and a happy one at that③,but I wanted more out of life.I wanted to TRAVEL. At that time I discovered blogging and found that I took pretty good pictures. So I decided to post pictures on my blog. In less than 18 months, there were over 200,000 people
reading my blog! At first,I only regarded it as④ a hobby, but companies started paying me to take photos and publish them.In 2013,I was determined to⑤ make my dream come true⑥:I would become Australia's first professional⑦ photo blogger. It was a challenging job, but I did it. Now I spend three weeks out of every month travelling and have over 464,000 fans following me online. I've got to know more about this country and its people.

2 What is your connection to Western Australia?
I first visited Western Australia for work in 2013. I fell in love with⑧ northern WA and have been back six times. Some of my favourite photographs were taken there. I have made over 140 work trips, but my best work trip ever was to Broome in the Kimberley region.
⑧fall in love (with...)
3 What do you love most about Western Australia?
It is extremely beautiful and you can experience the indigenous⑨ Australia there more than anywhere else. The Kimberley region, in particular⑩,is unique and untouched⑪. As a photographer, I love the bright light and amazing colours: red rocks, green plants, blue-green waters and blue skies.
⑨indigenous /In'dIdʒ(ə)nəs/ adj.
particularly adv.
⑪untouched adj.
4 How does your love of nature influence your photography?
To work full time⑫ in travel, you have to love nature. I try to take every opportunity to⑬ get outside and admire the natural world. I love to photograph⑭ the rising sun, so I force myself into⑮ the natural world by waking early each day. I also enjoy photographing animals, such as dolphins and kangaroos⑯.
⑫work full time 做全职工作
work part time 做兼职工作
a full-time job 全职工作
a part-time job 兼职工作
⑬take/use an opportunity to do sth.
⑭photograph vt.为……拍照
⑮force sb.into sth.
force vt.
be forced to do sth.
5 Does your photography support enviromental protection?
I hope so.I use my photography to make an impact on⑰ people, especially when it comes to environmental issues⑱.Today I've been photographing a crocodile⑲ swimming close to our boat, the Kimberley Quest⑳, all day. When I post the picture online, I will make a comment about㉑ how bad it is to feed wild crocodiles. This crocodile is used to㉒ passengers throwing food from boats and now she is becoming familiar with㉓ humans. Over time㉔, this could make her a danger to people living in the area.If I can do something to make others aware of㉕ the problem, then that's part of the solution.
“when it comes to...”
swimming close to our boat是v.-ing短语作后置定语,修饰a crocodile;the Kimberley Quest作our boat的同位语。
“how+adj.+it is+不定式短语”结构,其中it是形式主语,不定式短语to feed wild crocodiles是真正的主语。
“make+宾语+宾语补足语”结构,her作宾语,指代a crocodile,名词短语a danger在此作宾语补足语。
⑰make an impact on...
have an impact on...
⑲crocodile /'krɒkədaIl/ n.[C]鳄鱼
㉑make a comment about/on 对……
㉒be used to (sb./sb.'s) doing sth.
[比较] used to do sth.表示“过去常常做某事”;sth.be used to do sth.
㉓become/be familiar with sth.
become/be familiar to sb.
㉕make sb.aware of...
be/become aware of...

While I am still struggling to take a clear selfie with my dog, this guy is taking perfect selfies with different species of animals from around the globe. Allan Dixon is a traveller from Ireland. Currently living in Australia, Allan works in the tourism industry and is famous for his special connection with animals just like a “real-life Dr. Dolittle”, a famous movie character who can communicate with animals. But besides walking and talking with animals, he also takes striking selfies with them.
The animal selfie king has been able to take amazing snapshots (快照) with kangaroos, ducks, quokkas, goats, camels and sea lions. Working in the marketing department of the tourism industry,Allan has travelled to various places such as Canada, Iceland, Norway, Australia and Asia as well. By posting amusing selfies with a variety of exotic (奇异的) creatures on his social media account, he has gained a lot of popularity. His followers are always curious to see his next hilarious selfie with a new species of animal.
It was back in 2010 when Allan took his first animal selfie with his dog. However, it was in 2013 in Australia that a selfie with a baby camel got his friends excited. Since then, he has taken more than 40 selfies with different animals, 30 of which have been with different species. According to him, there is something magical about animals that can't be defined. He wants to share the feeling of great joy which he gets in the presence of animals with his friends through these captured snapshots.
Allan explains that there is no particular method for such animal selfies. The basic things are that the animal should feel comfortable in your presence and that you just have to be patient. Allan reveals that it can take five minutes to three hours of being in the animals' presence to take a selfie. “It depends on the animal and how safe it feels. What the photos don't show is the amount of dirt that ends up on my clothes because of my lying on the ground. But the results are worth it.”
