My teachers told my mom and dad—your grandparents that it was likely that I would fail in maths and science if I didn’t try my best. My parents were really angry. They stopped me from seeing my friends and made me feel like I had let them down. I decided to put extra effort into studying maths and science. I reduced time spent on English because I was already good at that. My parents were really happy with my new attitude. Then came the day of the next exam. I got high marks in science and maths. My parents were very satisfied with that. But I only scored a “C” in English when I had always been expected to get an “A”! What did I learn from the lesson? She recently earned an award (获奖) from National Bullying Prevention Center (NBPC) for her anti-bullying efforts in software development and animation (动画). Pappula, 13, said she discovered that a classmate had experienced cyberbullying(网络霸凌), which was painful for her to learn about. “Even though I didn’t experience it, I wouldn’t wish that on anyone, even my worst enemy,” Pappula said. Then she developed a program that recognizes when digital and text-based messages include bullying language. The program takes a message, and then recognizes signs of bullying and gives a rating to the cyberbullying, the teen said. If the rating is high, she said, “the program can be used to carry out things like removing that message or reporting it.” Pappula first designed and tested the program for Discord, a popular community-based messaging platform (平台), and said she plans to develop it for even bigger platforms like Facebook and Twitter. In addition to this program, the NBPC awarded Pappula for a three-minute animated video about Unity Day, which she created and shared on YouTube last October. Unity Day, according to the video, was started by the NBPC in 2011 to raise bullying awareness among school-age children. Schools encourage their students to wear orange on Unity Day, as it is “a color that is connected with safety,” the website reads. Pappula visited different websites to develop her animation skills several years ago. She spent more than a month creating her 2-D animated video using an animation software called Krita. The effort paid off, as nearly 6,000 people have already viewed the “Unity Day” video on YouTube. Along with being posted to the NBPC webpage, her animation was also shared by Cartoon Network. Moving forward, Pappula hopes to continue to work with the NBPC and to use her skills to lift those around her. 24. How did Pappula feel about bullying? A. It upset her life a lot. B. It could be stopped easily. C. It happened online most often. D. It shouldn’t happen to anyone. 25. How does Pappula’s program work? A. By sending voice messages. B. By removing useless messages. C. By sending its users important reports. D. By grading messages according to the language used. 26. What did Pappula do to make the animated video? A. She asked the NBPC for help. B. She taught herself animation. C. She learned from an expert. D. She created Krita. 27. Which word can best describe Pappula? A. Honest. B. Caring. C. Polite. D. Proud. 24. D 25. D 26. B 27. More than 1,000 NHS staff members across the country have joined the online NHS Chons-19 to improve their health and connect with others. Anna Lapwood, the conductor of the Pembroke College chapel choir in Cambridge, never expected NHS Chorus-19 to become so popular when two of her members suggested setting something up for NHS staff to improve morale. Within 24 hours 300 people had signed up She leads the sessions on Facebook live from her flat each week. “It’s disconcerting for me because I can’t hear anyone else, but what’s lovely is people can comment in real time, and so you develop a sense of who they are and it does almost feel like a real choir practice,” she said. A choir member, Ellie Walder, a junior doctor, has been working on dealing with COVTD-19 over the past few weeks. “It’s so nice to just take some time for myself, do something that is not part of work. just for fun,” she said. “We’ve all had roles in this pandemic so to know that other people are going through the same thing and we’re all singing together is really nice.” Hull NHS Choir, set up in 2014, changed its monthly rehearsals to weekly online sessions during lockdown as it decided people would need the choir more. “I don’t think people expected to enjoy online rehearsals, but it’s quite freeing to be able just to sing. And it gives people a sense of achievement,” said Lucy Vere, the bead of organization development al Hull University 1eaching hospitals and a co-founder of the choir. “The social aspect of work has really gone because of social distancing and I think we’re able to recreate unity in hat 45 minutes.” 28. What can we say about the popularity of NHS Chorus- 19? A. I didn’t raise Anna Lapwood’s interest. B It made Anna Lapwood surprised. C. It saved Anna Lapwood’s job. D. It let Anna Lapwood down. 29. It was a big challenge for her. B. It took up too much time. C. It lifted her up somehow. D. It was part of her work. 31. What can we infer about virtual choirs in the last paragraph? A. They encourage people to communicate in real life. B. They require people to spend time on rehearsals. C. They lead to people forgetting real social life. D. They can connect people during lockdown. B 29. A 30. C 31. 根据第二段“Anna Lapwood, the conductor of the Pembroke College chapel choir in Cambridge, never expected NHS Chorus-19 to become so popular when two of her members suggested setting something up for NHS staff to improve morale.”(当它的两名成员建议为NHS工作人员设立一些活动来提高士气时,Anna Lapwood,剑桥大学教堂唱诗班彭布罗克的指挥,从未想到NHS第十九合唱团会如此受欢迎。) 故选A项。 根据第四段“We’ve all had roles in this pandemic so to know that other people are going through the same thing and we’re all singing together is really nice.”(我们都参与了这场流行病所以知道其他的人正在经历相同的事情并且我们一起唱歌真的是太好了。) 根据最后一段“The social aspect of work has really gone because of social distancing and I think we’re able to recreate unity in hat 45 minutes.”(工作的社交方面真的消失了因为要保持社交距离,我认为我们能够在四十五分钟内重新团结起来。) D When it comes to technology, adults won’t be able to keep up with their children. It took radio 38 years to reach 50 million people, but it took only 20 years for the phone to reach the same number, and 13 years for the television. However, it took Facebook 3.6 years and Twitter only needed 88 days. Over the last 15 years, digital communication has brought in more changes than the printing press did in 1570. And those most likely to use them in this world are teenagers, whose brains appear to have a great ability to adapt to the world around them, according to Dr. Jay Giedd, a brain expert. We are now discovering that our brains during the teenage years are still flexible (灵活的). Having a more flexible brain means that certain functions of it , such as the ability to make long-term decisions, haven’t developed yet, which may also explain why we spend a long period living under the protection of our parents rather than leaving home at the age of 12 or 13. This also means that the teenage brain can adapt to new technology, allowing teenagers to keep up with the increasing pace (速度) of digital technology, giving them an advantage when doing different tasks. As they look at these screens, they’re dealing with information. There are concerns about how social media is affecting the way in which the brain learns to socialize. Giedd says that a lot of what goes on inside our brains is social. Social interactions are being changed by technology - you could have hundreds of friends, all of whom are real people that you interact with and scientists aren’t sure whether we’ll be able to develop the same skills using social media. There is an advantage to the growing digital trend (趋势):YouTube shows that teenagers all over the world are watching the same things and laughing at the same jokes, showing that they are more global-minded than teenagers in the past. They are more open to other cultures, other countries, and other people. 32. How many years did it take for television to reach 50 million people? A. 38 years. B. 20 years. C. 15 years. D. 13 years. 33. What does the underlined word “ This ” in paragraph 2 refer to? A. Teenagers’ brains are flexible. B. Teenagers are protected by their parents. C. Teenagers are good at doing different tasks. D. Teenagers’ abilities to make decisions haven’t developed. 34. What does the trend of using YouTube show? A. Teenagers prefer to socialize online. B. Teenagers spend much time on social media. C. Teenagers are now more open-minded than those in the past. D. Teenagers are more likely to be attracted by the Internet than grown-ups. 35. What may be the best title for the text? A. Concerns about social media influence B. Teenage brains in the digital world C. Teenager-related technologies D. Development of teenage brains 【答案】32. D 33. A 34. C 35. 根据第一段“It took radio 38 years to reach 50 million people, but it took only 20 years for the phone to reach the same number, and 13 years for the television.(广播用了38年的时间才达到5000万人,但电话只用了20年就达到了同样的数字,电视用了13年)”可知,电视只用了13年就覆盖了5000万人。 根据第二段“Having a more flexible brain means that certain functions of it , such as the ability to make long-term decisions, haven’t developed yet, which may also explain why we spend a long period living under the protection of our parents rather than leaving home at the age of 12 or 13. This also means that the teenage brain can adapt to new technology, allowing teenagers to keep up with the increasing pace (速度) of digital technology, giving them an advantage when doing different tasks.(拥有一个更灵活的大脑意味着它的某些功能,例如做出长期决策的能力,还没有发展起来,这也可以解释为什么我们在12岁或13岁时会在父母的保护下度过很长一段时间,而不是离开家。这也意味着青少年的大脑可以适应新技术,使青少年能够跟上数字技术的发展步伐,从而在完成不同任务时占据优势)”可知,拥有更灵活的大脑意味着某些功能还没发展起来,也意味着青少年的大脑可以适应新技术,划线单词this指代的是上文的Having a more flexible brain,即青少年的大脑是灵活的。故选A项。 根据最后一段“YouTube shows that teenagers all over the world are watching the same things and laughing at the same jokes, showing that they are more global-minded than teenagers in the past. They are more open to other cultures, other countries, and other people.(YouTube显示,全世界青少年都在看同样的东西,笑同样的笑话,这表明他们比过去的青少年更具全球意识。他们对其他文化、其他国家和其他人更加开放)”可知,使用YouTube的趋势说明现在的青少年比过去的人思想更开放。故选C项。 【35题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“And those most likely to use them in this world are teenagers, whose brains appear to have a great ability to adapt to the world around them, according to Dr. Jay Giedd, a brain expert.(大脑专家Jay Giedd博士表示,在这个世界上,最有可能使用它们的是青少年,他们的大脑似乎有很强的能力适应周围的世界)”以及第二段“This also means that the teenage brain can adapt to new technology, allowing teenagers to keep up with the increasing pace (速度) of digital technology, giving them an advantage when doing different tasks.(这也意味着青少年的大脑可以适应新技术,使青少年能够跟上数字技术的发展步伐,从而在完成不同任务时占据优势)”可知,本文主要介绍了青少年拥有灵活的大脑,比成年人更能适应日新月异的科技时代,所以“数字世界中的青少年大脑”适合作为文章标题。 London is home to forty-two theatres known worldwide for their great entertainment One afternoon, it rained heavily. I was driving along the busiest section of the highway when I saw the traffic slowing down in front of me. Some cars even stopped. At first, I thought there was a car accident, so I slowed down my car to see. But I soon found out there was a dog in the middle of the road when I got close enough. The weather was bad, and the grey sky with the heavy rain gave the highway poor visibility (可见度). It might cause a traffic jam (堵塞) and of course, it was very dangerous to let the dog wander in the middle of the highway. I immediately turned on my blue lights because people usually slow down when they see the blue lights and called into the radio so they knew where I was. I pulled over, got out, and whistled (吹口哨) to attract the dog's attention. It seemed as if the dog knew I was its lifesaver (救生员). It walked to me and my car. Once the dog was in the car, I drove into the Petworks Animal Service. While waiting, I noticed the dog wearing a collar (颈圈) with its name “Luck”. I recorded a short video (视频) of the dog. Then an animal control officer came and took Luck to the shelter. I came back to work. I thought I might do something to let the dog's owner know their pet was found safe. Arriving home, I posted (发布) the video of Luck online. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A week later, Luck's owner was found. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文 Arriving home, I posted (发布) the video of Luck online. I described some details about how I found Luck wandering on the highway during the heavy rain and how she was now safe at the shelter. I also wrote down the phone number of the shelter, hoping that Luck’s owner would see the post and come forward. The video quickly gained attention, with many people sharing it and expressing their gratitude for my actions. A week later, Luck's owner was found. I received a call from the shelter telling me that Luck’s owner had seen the video and was very excited to know that Luck was safe. The owner, a woman named Mary, had been searching for Luck for days. When she arrived at the shelter, Luck greeted her with excited barks and wagging tail. Mary thanked me for my kindness and quick thinking. Knowing I had helped reunite a lost pet with its owner, I felt a deep sense of satisfaction. 词汇激活 行为类 ①发现:find/spot ②表达:express/convey ③寻找:search for/hunt for 情绪类 ①感激:gratitude/appreciation/thankfulness ②激动的:excited/thrilled 【点睛】[高分句型1] I received a call from the shelter telling me that Luck’s owner had seen the video and was very excited to know that Luck was safe.(运用了that引导的宾语从句) [高分句型2] When she arrived at the shelter, Luck greeted her with excited barks and wagging tail.(运用了when引导的时间状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$第一节听下面5段对话。 Is there enough time for me to put on some makeup? B Medha Pappula, an eighth-grader at Brambleton Middle School, is using her skill set to solve a problem — bullying(霸凌). A. Honest. B. Caring. C. Polite. D. Proud. C Concerts and choir practice may be off the table during lockdown, but in the face of adversity people are turning to the power of song more than ever and virtual choirs are widespread online. D When it comes to technology, adults won’t be able to keep up with their children. 34 What does the trend of using YouTube show? One afternoon, it rained heavily. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
