Teacher displays Anna’s words in the conversation. 2. Ss read the sentences and try identifying the verbs in the simple past. 3. Ss conclude what the simple past is used for and its structure. Guide ss to observe and generalize the expressions of the simple past in contexts. Step 3 Summarize the rules 1. Game time: put the stars into the correct baskets. Ss play a game to categorize verbs according to the rules for changing the past form. 2. Teacher presents a chart of the regular changes for forming the simple past. Ss fill in the blanks in the chart and summarize the rules at the same time. 3. Teacher presents a chart of the irregular changes for forming the simple past. Ss read the chart after the teacher.
