I’m Thomas from the United Kingdom, working in Beijing, and I’m a shopping addict (迷). The main source of my addiction is Taobao, China’s massive online shopping platform — a place for everything from clothes to books, and everything in between. It makes Amazon look like a corner shop.
My favorite is mostly books and different kinds of water bottles. My cupboard has a shelf full of them, many of which my size will no longer allow me to crowd into.
What’s worse is that the app’s very clever algorithms (算法) track what I look through, so every time I open it on my phone, I am greeted by an advertisement inviting me to dip deeper into my digital wallet. I don’t even have to open the app. They are available to purchase with just a tap of my finger.
Once you make an order, you need to wait. The shipping gives your heart a little hit. Then there’s another little rush of endorphins (内啡肽) when the delivery person picks it up. You watch your package edging its way up the map to Beijing. When the app tells you it’s on the delivery bike, the same excitement as a kid on Christmas morning takes hold as you wait for the knock at the door. Much like a little dog waiting for its master to return home from work.
The packaging is eagerly removed, exciting another hit of happiness. An hour later, the buyer’s regret comes. To make yourself feel better, you start using the app once more and the cycle starts all over again.
I could blame (责备) my addiction on Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba, Taobao’s parent company, or point a finger at Liu Qiangdong, founder of JD, a similarly addictive domestic shopping app. I could even blame Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who started all this e-commerce.
“Surely, Thomas,” I hear you ask, “instead of blaming poor billionaires, you should take responsibility for your own sudden desire and lack of willpower.”
24. Why is Thomas crazy about Taobao?
A. It helps bring in money. B. He prefers online platforms.
C. It offers multiple item options. D. Amazon is too distant to access.
25. How can Thomas’s phone know what he prefers?
A. His digital wallet pays for it automatically.
B. He searches online when he opens the phone.
C. He communicates with the Taobao business owner.
D. The app’s algorithms follow his digital footprints.
26. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The author’s expectation of the purchased item. B. The challenges of online shopping.
C. The long journey of a purchased item. D. The accuracy of the shopping app.
27. What does the author want to convey in this passage?
A. We should say no to e-commerce. B. We should blame Taobao.
C. We should be responsible for our purchasing. D. We should admire billionaires.

Artificial intelligence has become a part of our lives, changing the way we live, work, and interact. AI systems are capable of processing vast amounts of data, analyzing patterns, and producing valuable insights and have changed various industries.
In the field of healthcare, Al-powered systems can help doctors and researchers a lot, reducing waiting times for test results and identifying patterns and trends that can be used to more accurately diagnose (诊断) and treat patients, AI can identify data patterns in minutes or even seconds that would otherwise take a doctor or researcher weeks or even months. By analyzing patient data from around the world, AI can identify some diseases that may not be known before. And this exchange of knowledge can lead to more accurate diagnoses, better treatments, and improved cure effects.
In the education field, professors and teachers across the world are faced with AI revolution and know what it means for them and their students. How many students will save time and energy by having AI write their essays and assignments (布置的任务) rather than writing them themselves? Will teachers and professors use AI to create their own lesson plans and assignments? And we can see a rise of new anti-cheating tools and apps to fight against the essays created by AI.
Like any new technology, there is a certain amount of fear and a lot of questions to be answered on the use, exchange, advantages and disadvantages of AI, but one thing seems clear: By offering more access to information and services, AI can help create a more equal and better society.
Chinese civilization is one of the oldest civilizations in human history and is still flourishing today. B. There is no need to worry about the use of AI.
C. AI can provide us with free access to information and services.
D. AI will bring us more advantages than disadvantages.
30. What is the author’s attitude to the combination of AI and Chinese cultural heritage?
A. Negative. B. Indifferent. C. Curious. D. Supportive.
31. What would be the best title for the passage?
A. The Power of AI in Human Civilization B. The Changes of AI in Chinese History
C. The Impacts of AI on Human Life D. The Progress of AI in Scientific Research

A team of researchers has discovered an unusual thing of communication between birds. The study says that small tits (山雀) use wing gestures to communicate a polite “after you” to their mates.
The findings are very important in our understanding of non-verbal communication in the animal kingdom, particularly among birds.
Human communication heavily depends on gestures, such as giving a thumbs-up, waving goodbye, or pointing to pass on messages without the use of words. This way of communication was once thought to be only used by humans until observations of chimpanzees (黑猩猩)showed their ability to use body movement to express themselves non-verbally.
However, the idea of symbolic gesturing, such as a human showing an open hand to signal “after you” has not been observed in non-human species until now.
“In our latest discovery, we’ve found that the tits use some gestures to communicate with their mates,” said Toshitaka Suzuki, one of the researchers. These birds, which form mating pairs and build their nests in the tree, show a unique form of gestural communication. When arriving at the nest with food, a pair of birds would often stay nearby, and one would flutter(振动) its wings towards the other, signaling for its mate to enter the nest first. This wing-fluttering gesture, mainly shown by females, determines the order of nest entry, mirroring the human “after you” gesture.
“We were surprised to find that the results were much clearer than we had expected. We observed that a tit fluttered its wings only in the presence of its mate, and upon seeing this behavior, the mate almost always entered the nest first,” said Suzuki.
The scientists ’ work not only shows the rich animal languages but offers key insights into the origins and evolution (进化) of language itself. “Language may evolve from gestural communication. ” Suzuki said, “So these studies can help us understand the evolution of complex communication, including our own language. ”
32. What does the underlined word “non-verbal” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. 口头的 B. 非语言的 C. 吵闹的 D. 书面的
33. According to Suzuki, what does the wing-flutter mean for tits?
A. A danger to other species. B. An attraction for their mates
C. A casual action with no purpose. D. A signal for first nest entry.
34. What is the significance of studying animal gestures?
A. Showing animals can copy human speech.
B. Proving all species communicate similarly.
C. Aiding in understanding language evolution.
D. Stressing humans ’ uniqueness in language.
35. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. The Evolution of Animal Communication.
B. The Wing-fluttering Gestures of Small Tits.
C. The Discovery of Non-verbal Gestures in Birds.
D. The Role of Gestures in Animal Communication.

【答案】24. C 25. D 26. A 27. C

The combination of AI and Chinese cultural heritage will not only open up new paths for the development of AI technology, but will also bring new opportunities for the development of Chinese civilization.
28. What is conveyed in the underlined sentence?

【答案】32. B 33. D 34. C 35. C
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍研究人员发现小山雀用振翅手势交流“你先请”,这一发现有助于理解动物非语言交流及语言进化 。
【32题详解】

【答案】An Interesting Tree-planting Activity
Last Sunday our school organized an interesting tree-planting activity on campus. Almost all students joined it positively.
At the beginning, our teachers explained how to plant trees and then gave us a demonstration. Afterwards, we got involved and cooperated with pleasure. Some dug holes, some planted trees while others watered them. We worked hard, talking and laughing happily all the time, during which our teachers took many photos for us.
We truly enjoyed the activity. Not only did it help us cooperate better and beautify our campus, but also it raised our awareness of protecting the environment.
