Have you ever dreamed of packing things up and hitting the road?
Molly and Jaren Garcia of the lifestyle blog We Plus Three did just that in 2023. They sold their three-bedroom, two-bathroom house in Joshua, Texas, abandoned some of their belongings, and moved with their three children into an RV (recreational vehicle房车). Since then, the family has already traveled to 25 states.
The Garcias said they made the big life change because they wanted to be together as a family while Jaren Garcia, who was working in sales at the time, traveled for work.
Molly Garcia now gives lessons to their children at home by herself — Lillie, 13, Jaxton, 9, and Willow, 5, and creates content for the family’s blog and social media platforms. Jaren Garcia is in charge of driving and has changed his job.
The Garcias estimated that when they lived in a traditional house, they needed to spend approximately $3,000 per month. Now that they’ve moved to an RV, they cut their living costs down to about $1,000 per month. When it comes to keeping costs reasonable, Molly Garcia suggested buying a membership at Thousand Trails, whose members can park their RVs for two weeks for free.
“When you get into the RV life, if you bring a lot of weight into your RV, it’ll weigh it down,” Molly Garcia added. “You’ll spend more money on gas, and you might get rid of some useless stuff because there’s so much weight in your RV.”
“We don’t want to scare people away from this lifestyle,” she continued. “But you will get a lot more experiences, be able to travel and be on your own time.”
“We just want people to know that you can do it if you put your mind to it, like the biggest roadblock that you’re going to hit is the one that you have set up, so you can overcome it,” Jaren Garcia added.
34. Why did the Garcias decide to move into a recreational vehicle?
A. To travel around their country and the neighboring ones.
B To make it convenient for the family to sell goods.
C. To ensure the family members can live together.
D. To attract more readers to their blogs.
35. Why did Molly Garcia advise buying a membership at Thousand Trails?
A. To get much cheaper gas. B. To save a lot of parking fees.
C. To pay less money to use roads or bridges. D. To spend less on their vehicle maintenance.
36. What are the benefits of living in an RV?
①Having a flexible schedule ②Owning larger living space
③Spending less money per month ④Receiving medical services easily
⑤Gaining a lot of valuable experiences
A. ①③④ B. ①③⑤ C. ③④⑤ D. ②③④

根据第三段中“The Garcias said they made the big life change because they wanted to be together as a family while Jaren Garcia, who was working in sales at the time, traveled for work.(Garcia一家表示,他们做出这一重大生活改变是因为他们希望一家人能在一起,而当时从事销售工作的Jaren Garcia需要出差)”可知,Garcia一家决定搬进房车是为了确保家庭成员能生活在一起。
根据第五段中“When it comes to keeping costs reasonable, Molly Garcia suggested buying a membership at Thousand Trails, whose members can park their RVs for two weeks for free.(在控制成本方面,Molly Garcia建议购买Thousand Trails的会员资格,该会员可以免费停放房车两周)”可知,Molly Garcia建议购买Thousand Trails的会员资格是为了节省大量停车费。
根据第五段中“The Garcias estimated that when they lived in a traditional house, they needed to spend approximately $3,000 per month. Now that they’ve moved to an RV, they cut their living costs down to about $1,000 per month.(Garcia一家估计,他们住在传统房子里时,每月大约需要花费3000美元。
根据上文内容可知,文章主要围绕Garcia一家享受房车生活展开,再结合最后一段中“We just want people to know that you can do it if you put your mind to it(我们只是想让人们知道,只要你下定决心,你就能做到它)”可推知,“it”指的是上文中讲的“享受房车生活”。故选D项。

Over the past 300 years,1.5 billion hectares of forest have been lost, resulting in biodiversity loss, desertification, and increased flooding risks.
In the book Treewilding, ecologist Jake Robinson explains while the solution to forest clearing might appear straightforward — simply plant millions of trees — the reality is far more confusing. Random tree planting can threaten ecosystems and the livelihoods of local communities.
This engaging book mainly reveals how well-developed approaches are required — one that integrates the latest scientific advancements, for instance. Treewilding asks us to reflect on our interconnectedness with the woods, a realization that is perhaps the biggest “secret” to restoring nature.
Tree-planting initiatives have exploded since the turn of the century. Globally, the area of planted forests rose from 170 million hectares in 1990 to 293 million hectares in 2020. However, unless thoroughly researched and well organized, tree planting can backfire.
Often, only one type of tree is planted across pieces of land. This reduces biodiversity, in terms of plant species and the wildlife and microorganisms (微生物) associated with them. Because trees of the same species can all fall victim to the same diseases, a whole forest can be wiped out at once. Moreover, non-native trees can win out over local species, disturbing the local balanced ecosystems.
To solve environmental crises, Robinson advocates a more informed strategy. He speaks to Forrest Fleischman, a specialist in forest and environmental policy, who highlights how local people depend on forests for highly self-sufficient agricultural activities. Fleischman also proposes that locals know well what species are best suited to the environment and how these species are interconnected with the local wildlife and ecosystem.
The author also describes the concept of ecoacoustics The approach uses the sounds made by organisms including birds and bats to explore the composition of and changes in ecosystems. Working with ecoacoustics specialist Carlos Abrahams, Robinson concludes that as forests are recovered, the number of animals hidden in the soil increases, producing an “underground soundscape — a hidden symphony of life”.
Robinson ultimately emphasizes natural regeneration — just as a phoenix (a mythical bird) is reborn from its own ashes, a damaged forest can regenerate itself.
38. What is the main focus of Jake Robinson’s Treewilding?
A. The importance of technology in modern agriculture.
B. The changes of global forests over the past 300 years.
C. Major benefits of maintaining healthy ecosystems.
D. Effective methods in solving the loss of forests.
39. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “backfire” in paragraph 4?
A. Lead to negative outcomes. B. Produce predictable results.
C. Facilitate relevant initiatives. D. Encourage sustainable growth.
40. What might Fleischman expect tree-planting organizers to do?
A. Increase the number of non-native species.
B. Standardize planting practices across different regions.
C. Take account of natives’ knowledge in planting processes.
D. Encourage locals to adopt advanced agricultural methods.
41. What can be the best title for the text?
A. Forest Clearing Poses a Serious Threat to Us
B. Repairing Forests Is More Than Just Planting Trees
C. Natural Regeneration Is the Key to Ecosystem Restoration
D. The Underground Soundscape Allows Us to Know Nature Better
D 39. A 40. C 41. B
根据第二段“In the book Treewilding, ecologist Jake Robinson explains while the solution to forest clearing might appear straightforward — simply plant millions of trees — the reality is far more confusing. Random tree planting can threaten ecosystems and the livelihoods of local communities.(在《Treewilding》一书中,生态学家杰克·罗宾逊解释说,虽然解决森林砍伐问题的方法似乎很简单——只需种植数百万棵树——但现实要复杂得多。
根据划线词所在句“However, unless thoroughly researched and well organized, tree planting can backfire.(然而,除非进行彻底的调查和组织,否则植树可能会……)”和下文“Often, only one type of tree is planted across pieces of land. This reduces biodiversity, in terms of plant species and the wildlife and microorganisms (微生物) associated with them. Because trees of the same species can all fall victim to the same diseases, a whole forest can be wiped out at once. Moreover, non native trees can win out over local species, disturbing the local balanced ecosystems.(通常,在一片片土地上只种植一种树。这会减少生物多样性,包括植物物种以及与之相关的野生动物和微生物。因为同一物种的树木都可能成为同一种疾病的受害者,整个森林可能会一下子被摧毁。此外,外来树木可能会胜过本地物种,扰乱当地的生态平衡)”中对随意植树带来的不良后果的介绍可推知,如果没有经过彻底的调查和组织就随意植树,植树就会“导致负面的结果”,所以backfire与意思一致A项“Lead to negative outcomes.”。故选A项。
根据第六段中“He speaks to Forrest Fleischman, a specialist in forest and environmental policy, who highlights how local people depend on forests for highly self sufficient agricultural activities. Fleischman also proposes that locals know well what species are best suited to the environment and how these species are interconnected with the local wildlife and ecosystem.(他与森林和环境政策专家福雷斯特·弗莱施曼交谈,弗莱施曼强调了当地人如何依靠森林进行高度自给自足的农业活动。弗莱施曼还提出,当地人很清楚哪些物种最适合当地环境,以及这些物种与当地野生动物和生态系统是如何相互关联的)”可知,弗莱施曼认为当地人很清楚哪些物种最适合当地环境,以及这些物种与当地野生动物和生态系统是如何相互关联的,由此推知,他会希望植树组织者在植树过程中考虑当地人的知识。故选C项。
【41题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第二段中“In the book Treewilding, ecologist Jake Robinson explains while the solution to forest clearing might appear straightforward — simply plant millions of trees — the reality is far more confusing. Random tree planting can threaten ecosystems and the livelihoods of local communities.(在《Treewilding》一书中,生态学家杰克·罗宾逊解释说,虽然解决森林砍伐问题的方法似乎很简单——只需种植数百万棵树——但现实要复杂得多。随意植树会威胁生态系统和当地社区的生计)”以及后面提到植树要考虑科学成果、当地人的知识、采用生态声学等多种因素来解决森林问题,而不只是单纯种树。所以“Repairing Forests Is More Than Just Planting Trees(修复森林不仅仅是种树)”能概括文章主旨,最适合做文章标题。故选B项。
D
Travel is one of the most exciting experiences a human being can have. Imagine how Italian traveler Marco Polo must have felt when he found himself in China, seeing a way of life quite different from anything he’d seen before.
And how wonderful must it have been to Zhang Qian when he returned to China from his journey through Central Asia and West Asia? His brain must have been filled with everything he’d seen and heard, leading to the founding of the Silk Road.
Some people have traveled all over the world, and travel is a way of life to them. But among the travels to a specific destination, the first is more likely to be the best. Imagine a person who has been expecting his first travel to the United States. Of course, he may have seen all the famous sights a thousand times on TV. But none of that would compare to the excitement of looking out of the cabin window as the plane lands, watching the cities and streets of the real America come into view.
Although travel is often just for recreation (消遣), it’s also educational. We may not know that we are getting an education, but we still are.
We’re learning every day: new words, new people, and new ways of life. But this learning takes place in the school of the world, not just the classroom. One of the lessons we learn is undoubtedly a moral (道德上的) one. As we get to know foreign places, we come to understand that there are many different ways to live, and that the way we live isn’t necessarily the best way. Just like British politician Benjamin Disraeli said, “Travel teaches toleration.”
42. Why does the author mention Marco Polo and Zhang Qian?
A. To explain how the Silk Road was founded.
B. To present travel as an amazing experience.
C. To show how the way people travel has changed.
D. To describe important cultural exchanges in history.
43. What does the author want to convey in Paragraph 3?
A. The best trip is often the first in-person experience.
B. One’s first trip is usually the most challenging.
C. There is always much to learn on one’s first trip.
D. People usually make better preparations for their first trips.
44. What can we know from the last two paragraphs?
A. Traveling should be included in formal education.
B. Traveling improves people’s confidence in their lifestyle.
C. There is more to learn in classroom than from adventures.
D. A foreign journey may raise people’s cultural understanding.
45. According to the passage, what is one of the key moral lessons that travel teaches?
A. The importance of staying at home.
B. The value of exploring new places.
C. The necessity of being tolerant of different cultures.
D. The idea that one’s own culture is better than others.
B 43. A 44. D 45. C

People have long noted the importance of physical activity. It can not only improve your appearance but also help to reduce the risk of some diseases, including heart disease, diabetes and even some kinds of cancer. But many people don’t know how to do exercise.
Earlier this year, the Centers for Disease Control released its first ever Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. To get the most from your exercise plan, experts say adults should get at least two and a half hours of exercise each week. More intense (剧烈) activities reduce the suggested amount of time to one hour and fifteen minutes. And it doesn’t matter whether you exercise for short periods in five days or longer time in two or three days.
Most importantly, experts say people should choose physical activity that they find fun. This helps to guarantee that they stay with the program. According to them, walking tops the list. More than 79 million Americans walk to stay physically fit. Another popular form of exercise is jogging (慢跑). Jogging provides great physical conditioning for the heart and lungs. And it increases the flow of blood and oxygen in the body. Swimming is a third most popular sports activity in the United States. Swimming also presents less risk of muscle and joint injury because of the body’s weightlessness in water. This makes it a great choice of exercise for people with special needs, like persons who are overweight. Dancing can also be a fun way to exercise. This is especially true for those who see exercise as a necessary evil (坏事).
Whatever kind of exercise you choose, experts agree that you should start small first. Start by exercising ten minutes a day two times a week. After a few weeks, work your way up. You’d better increase your time to fifteen or twenty minutes, and increase the number of days.
46. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text? (no more than 15 words)

49. According to the last paragraph, how should we exercise in a scientific way? (no more than 10 words)
____________________________________________________________________
50. What kind of physical activity do you like? Why? (no more than 20 words)
____________________________________________________________________
46. To give readers some advice on how to do exercise.
47. Because it can improve their appearance and reduce the risk of some diseases.
48. Ensure/Make sure.
49. We should start small and work our way up.

B. To make it convenient for the family to sell goods.
A. ①③④ B. ①③⑤ C. ③④⑤ D. ②③④
37. What does the underlined word “it” in the last paragraph refer to?

A To explain how the Silk Road was founded.

More intense (剧烈的) activities reduce the suggested amount of time to one hour and fifteen minutes. And it doesn’t matter whether you exercise for short periods in five days or longer time in two or three days.
Most importantly experts say people should choose physical activity that they find fun.
