In 2017ꎬ at the Hankou Railway Station in
Wuhanꎬ 24 ̄year ̄old Lugazo Abubakar Lugazo
found himself lost. He had no idea which way to
go. A passenger who had been sitting next to him
on the train kindly offered to take him to Central
China Normal University. Lugazo had just arrived
in China from Tanzania to study at the university.
The warm ̄hearted man was the first “ Lei Feng”
he met.
This experience left a lasting influence on
Lugazo. Several months laterꎬ he joined the
universitys International Students Volunteer
Team. Set up in 2012ꎬ the volunteer team
numbers over 100 students from about 50
countries. These volunteers take part in different
activities both in and out of school. Every monthꎬ
they provide directions for passengersꎬ help
elderly people buy tickets and pick up rubbish at
train stations. They offer free language classes in
Englishꎬ French and Arabic three times a week.
They also contribute to the community by
cleaning parksꎬ planting treesꎬ and visiting lonely
seniors.
As a member of the teamꎬ Lugazo often does
volunteer work at the Wuhan Railway Station. He
shared a heartwarming sceneꎬ “After I helped an
elderly womanꎬ her 5 ̄year ̄old grandson called me
a living ‘ Lei Feng’! That truly touched me. ”
Lugazo also volunteers to teach English to some
left ̄behind children in Yichangꎬ forming
friendships with them and bringing happiness to
their lives.
In Chinaꎬ stories about Lei Feng are widely
knownꎬ and his spirit has been passed down from
generations:“A mans life has a certain termꎬ but

work has become an important part of Lugazos life
