GUIYANG — On the morning of Aug 28, 2025, a group of middle school students in bright yellow vests gathered outside the Guiyang International Convention and Exhibition Center in Guizhou. They were not visitors. They were the youngest reporters at the 2025 China International Big Data Industry Expo.
Among them was 15-year-old Li Yihan from Zunyi. “I’ve always been fascinated by journalism, and this is my first time working as a reporter,” he said. Before the expo, Li and his schoolmates received special training. Their English teacher helped them prepare interview questions, and experienced journalists taught them how to deal with difficult situations.
In the exhibition hall, the students reported on China’s latest technology. Li chose a cable repair robot named “Wukong”. “Operators can control it remotely in real time, so people don’t need to enter dangerous areas,” he explained. Wang Zini, 14, was interested in drone soccer, a new sport in which players fly drones inside a netted ball and try to shoot goals. “It was my first time seeing such a sport, and it’s becoming an official competition,” she said.
Speaking English with international guests was not always easy, but the students found their own ways. “When technical words became too hard, I talked about food and culture instead,” Wang said. By the end of the expo, the young reporters had not only learned about technology but also discovered the power of communication.
