C.What awards King received. 【答案】18.A 19.C 20.A 【原文】M: Stephen King is one of the most successful writers in the world. Many of his stories are set in his home state of Maine, the USA. When he was young, he saw one of his friends being struck and killed by a train. That’s why he often writes about death. When his first book, Carrie, was published, no one knew Stephen King, so his name meant nothing. Three years later, Carrie was made into a movie, which turned out to be a huge success. Since that first success, many of King’s books have been made into movies. King usually writes about ordinary people in ordinary places. Perhaps this is the reason for his success his readers think what happens to the people in his books could happen to them. So far, he has published 58 novels, including seven under the pen name Richard Bachman, and six non-fiction books. He has also written about 200 short stories. He has received many awards for his contributions to literature. King once said: “I read and write for about eight hours a day, which makes me a writer today!” A High School Science Exploration Challenge We are thrilled to announce the first-ever Exploration Challenge for high school students on campus. While working part-time at Sears a well-known American department store, he decided to test his passion by trying barbering full-time for one month. That month turned into a lifelong journey. Today, Warren co-owns Visions Barbershop in Rochester, New York, with his partner, Ronnic Davis. Since the early 1990s, Warren has served the 19th Ward, a diverse neighborhood in southwest Rochester, known for its community spirit and motto, “Urban, by choice.” Visions Barbershop has become a gathering place where people not only come for haircuts but also to socialize and connect. Warren recalls a funny moment when a customer criticized the local football team, the Buffalo Bills, not realizing a former player from that team was in the chair. Interactions like these make Visions Barbershop a lively part of the neighborhood. For Warren, barbering is his way of giving back to the community. Over time, he started offering health tips to his clients. After undergoing a medical exam called a “colonoscopy”, Warren felt it was essential to raise awareness of health issues. Now, the shop’s walls display information about disease prevention and other health topics. “We want to help everyone take care of themselves,” he says. Warren’s barbershop has also become a source of guidance, especially for young clients seeking advice. Many young people stop by for a haircut but end up sharing their challenges and ambitions. Warren listens and shares his experiences, encouraging them to stay focused and make positive choices. He hopes that Visions Barbershop will always be a place where people feel welcome and valued. As the years pass and the neighborhood changes, Visions Barbershop remains a respected corner stone of the community. When asked how long he plans to keep cutting hair, Warren simply smiles and says, “As long as I’m here, I’ll keep cutting hair.” For him, each cut is more than just work — it’s a way to stay grounded in the people and place he loves. 24.What motivated Warren to pursue barbering? A.Need to find stable employment. B.Encouragement from his colleagues. C.A long-time dream to own a barbershop. D.A desire to explore his interest in haircutting. 25.What does “the funny moment” mentioned in paragraph 2 suggest? A.Warren’s passion for football. B.Clients’ love for the local team. C.The player’s reputation in the sport. D.The barbershop’s open atmosphere. 26.How does Warren raise his clients’ health awareness? A.By hosting health-related events. B.By sharing relevant health insights. C.my inviting them to medical exams. D.By providing personal medical stories. 27.What is reflected in Warren’s career? A.Lifelong service to his community. B.Strong commitment to personal fame. C.Growing ambition for business expansion. D.Clear emphasis on serving important clients. 根据第一段“Keith Warren grew up fascinated by barbering — the art of cutting and styling hair. While working part-time at Sears a well-known American department store, he decided to test his passion by trying barbering full-time for one month.(基思 沃伦从小就着迷于理发——理发和定型的艺术。当他在美国著名百货公司西尔斯做兼职时,他决定试着做一个月的全职理发师来测试自己的热情)”可知,渴望探索他对理发的兴趣促使沃伦从事理发工作。故选D。 25.推理判断题。根据第二段“Since the early 1990s, Warren has served the 19th Ward, a diverse neighborhood in southwest Rochester, known for its community spirit and motto, “Urban, by choice.”(从20世纪90年代初开始,沃伦服务于第19区,这是罗切斯特西南部一个多元化的社区,以其社区精神和座右铭“城市,由选择”而闻名)”和“Warren recalls a funny moment when a customer criticized the local football team, the Buffalo Bills, not realizing a former player from that team was in the chair. Interactions like these make Visions Barbershop a lively part of the neighborhood.(沃伦回忆起一个有趣的时刻,当时一位顾客批评当地的布法罗比尔队,却没有意识到该球队的前球员坐在椅子上。像这样的互动使Visions理发店成为社区中活跃的一部分)”可知,第二段提到的“有趣时刻”意味着理发店的开放氛围。故选D。 26.细节理解题。根据第三段“Now, the shop’s walls display information about disease prevention and other health topics.(现在,商店的墙上展示着有关疾病预防和其他健康主题的信息)”可知,沃伦通过分享相关健康见解提高客户的健康意识。故选B。 27. 根据最后一段“As the years pass and the neighborhood changes, Visions Barbershop remains a respected corner stone of the community. When asked how long he plans to keep cutting hair, Warren simply smiles an d says, “As long as I’m here, I’ll keep cutting hair.” For him, each cut is more than just work — it’s a way to stay grounded in the people and place he loves.(随着岁月的流逝和社区的变化,愿景理发店仍然是一个受人尊敬的社区基石。当被问及他打算剪多长时间的头发时,沃伦只是微笑着说:“只要我在这里,我就会继续剪头发。”对他来说,每一次切割都不仅仅是工作——这是一种与他所爱的人和地方保持联系的方式)”可知,无论时空变迁,他的理发店一直是一个令人尊敬的社区支柱,理发不仅仅是他的职业,更是一个与他爱的邻里社区紧密相连的方式,即沃伦的职业生涯反映了终身为社区服务。故选A。 C The Discovery of Germs was an enlightening read, briefly summing up the people and events that led to our modern understanding of “germs” or microorganisms (微生物). The information laid out in the book was factual and descriptive, but didn't have the dullness of a boring textbook. Instead, the story followed one intellectual mind to another as new discoveries brought us closer to learning the truth the world had been missing: the existence of germs. While The Discovery of Germs spared the reader from a flat dialogue that has come to be expected from academic textbooks, there were still plenty of headings that make it easy to find what you're looking for if you are on the hunt for a specific person or topic. The author’s explanations were also easy to follow, making this book suitable for young learners in their early teens, but not so simple that a college level reader would find it beneath them. I thought the events in this book flowed smoothly from one important accomplishment to the next. Science is constantly changing, and the growth and knowledge of humanity rest on our abilities to question, seek and find our own answers. The Discovery of Germs not only followed the journeys of scientists who made our world the place it is today, but also stressed the importance of their cathexis in questioning the unknown. One of my favorite quotes from this book was, “If there is some kind of ‘living force' capable of assembling prior elements into new and unique creations, that force is human concentration.” Overall, The Discovery of Germs was highly educational and I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to learn about the measures that had to be taken to make our medical practices and prolong life expectancy. 28.What do we know about The Discovery of Germs? A.It summarizes modern concepts. B.It informs knowledge related to germs. C.It explores great people’s minds. D.It is introduced in academic textbooks. 29.Why is the book suitable for the young generation? A.Its vivid dialogues are attractive. B.Its simple headings make sense. C.Its specific subtitles can be easily found. D.Its explanations are easy to understand. 30.What does the underlined word “cathexis”in paragraph 3 mean? A.Admiration. B.Absorption. C.Prediction. D.Preparation. 31.What is the purpose of this text? A.To prove a scientific phenomenon. B.To remember some great scientists. C.To recommend a book about germs. D.To explain some scientific knowledge. 根据第一段的“The Discovery of Germs was an enlightening read, briefly summing up the people and events that led to our modern understanding of “germs” or microorganisms(微生物).( 《细菌的发现》是一本具有启发性的读物,简要总结了那些使我们对 “细菌” 或微生物有了现代理解的人物和事件)”可知,《细菌的发现》这本书介绍了与细菌相关的知识。故选B。 29. 根据第二段的“The author’s explanations were also easy to follow, making this book suitable for young learners in their early teens, but not so simple that a college level reader would find it beneath them. (作者的解释也很容易理解,这使得这本书适合十几岁的年轻学习者,但又不会简单到让大学水平的读者觉得它不值一读)”可知,这本书适合年轻一代是因为它的解释容易理解。故选D。 30.词义猜测题。根据画线词后文“in questioning the unknown(在质疑未知方面)”以及“One of my favorite quotes from this book was, “If there is some kind of ‘living force’ capable of assembling prior elements into new and unique creations, that force is human concentration.”(这本书中我最喜欢的名言之一是:“如果存在某种‘生命力’,能够将先前的要素组合成全新且独特的创造物,那么这种力量就是人类的专注。”)” 根据最后一段“Overall, The Discovery of Germs was highly educational and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to learn about the measures that had to be taken to make our medical practices and prolong life expectancy. (总的来说,《细菌的发现》具有很高的教育意义,我会把它推荐给任何想了解为改进我们的医疗实践和延长预期寿命而必须采取的措施的人)”可知,本文的目的是推荐一本关于细菌的书。故选C。 D Before joining Washington D.C.-based District Running Collective, Fallon Jones wasn’t a runner. “We were doing CrossFit then—there’s this group of people who run up the street,” says Jones. She was attracted after her first run with the group the following week. “I was in the slower pace group, but everybody was there at the end to cheer me on,” she adds. The first known running club, the Thames Hare and Hounds, was established in 1868 in London, promoting the sport as a social activity. Over the decades, running clubs have spread across Europe and North America, initially attracting competitive runners but gradually appealing to a broader audience seeking support, motivation and friendship. In recent years, online platforms have allowed runners to connect, making running more accessible and inclusive. Nowadays, conversational running is becoming a trend. Conversational running, which refers to maintaining a pace at which you can comfortably speak as you move, is often associated with Zone 2 training, which involves an intensity of 60—70 percent of your maximum heart rate. Kristen Hislop, a certified running coach, says people often struggle to achieve this pace though it doesn’t feel like an “arduous” workout; it’s often much slower than you’d anticipate. “But while it isn’t especially challenging, doing low-intensity exercise regularly can build endurance (耐力) so you’ll be able to go longer and further,” says Hislop. “You’re also going to recover faster and reduce your risk of injuries.” Conversational running is also good for your relationships. “If you’re near somebody but not necessarily facing them eye to eye, you might be more willing to express yourself or you might just feel a little bit less shy,” says Rachel Goldberg, a licensed family therapist who incorporates walk-and-talk sessions into her practice. This can lead to deeper conversations and stronger connections. Despite the benefits of running with others, finding the right run club to fit your needs is crucial. Jones knew her club was the right fit after her first outing. “They did a really good job in explaining the different pace groups,” she says. “As someone who’s approaching 40, it has been a blessing to find friends of all ages here at this stage in life.” 32.What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about? A.The popularity of running clubs. B.The origin of conversational running. C.The development of running clubs. D.The advances in fitness technologies. 33.What does the underlined word “arduous” in paragraph 3 mean? A.Exceptional. B.Annual. C.Rewarding. D.Tough. 34.What does Rachel Goldberg say about conversational running? A.It is a high-intensity exercise. B.It makes people willing to open up. C.It frees people of work stress. D.It enhances people’s mental clarity. 35.What attracts Jones best about District Running Collective? A.Its capability to group. B.Its access to local cultures. C.Its promising future. D.Its obvious health benefits. 根据第二段开头提到“The first known running club, the Thames Hare and Hounds, was established in 1868 in London, promoting the sport as a social activity.( 第一个已知的跑步俱乐部,泰晤士野兔与猎犬俱乐部,于1868年在伦敦成立,将这项运动推广为一种社交活动。)”接着又说“Over the decades, running clubs have spread across Europe and North America, initially attracting competitive runners but gradually appealing to a broader audience seeking support, motivation and friendship. In recent years, online platforms have allowed runners to connect, making running more accessible and inclusive.( 在过去的几十年里,跑步俱乐部在欧洲和北美传播开来,最初吸引的是有竞争力的跑步者,但逐渐吸引了更广泛的寻求支持、动力和友谊的人群。近年来,在线平台让跑步者能够相互联系,使跑步变得更容易参与和更具包容性。)”由此可知,第二段主要讲述了跑步俱乐部的发展历程。故选C项。 33.词义猜测题。根据第三段中“Conversational running, which refers to maintaining a pace at which you can comfortably speak as you move, is often associated with Zone 2 training, which involves an intensity of 60—70 percent of your maximum heart rate. Kristen Hislop, a certified running coach, says people often struggle to achieve this pace though it doesn’t feel like an “arduous” workout; it’s often much slower than you’d anticipate.( 会话式跑步,指的是保持一种你在运动时可以舒适地说话的速度,通常与2区训练有关,这涉及到你最大心率的60 - 70%的强度。克里斯汀 希斯洛普(Kristen Hislop)是一名持证跑步教练,她说人们通常很难达到这样的速度,尽管这并不像是一种 arduous的锻炼;它通常比你预期的要慢得多。)”可知,这种锻炼强度不高,速度也比预期慢,因此它不是一种费力的锻炼。所以“arduous 应该是“艰难的;费力的”意思,与D 选项“Tough.”(艰难的;困难的)意思相近。故选D项。 34.细节理解题。根据第四段““If you’re near somebody but not necessarily facing them eye to eye, you might be more willing to express yourself or you might just feel a little bit less shy,” says Rachel Goldberg, a licensed family therapist who incorporates walk-and-talk sessions into her practice. This can lead to deeper conversations and stronger connections.(“如果你离某人很近,但不一定要和他们面对面,你可能会更愿意表达自己,或者你可能会觉得不那么害羞,”蕾切尔 戈德堡(Rachel Goldberg)说,她是一名有执照的家庭治疗师,在她的实践中加入了边走边谈的课程。这可以带来更深入的对话和更牢固的联系)”可知,Rachel Goldberg 认为如果你靠近某人但不一定面对面,你可能会更愿意表达自己,或者只是感觉不那么害羞,这可以带来更深入的对话和更紧密的联系。所以她认为对话式跑步能让人们更愿意敞开心扉。故选B项。 35.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Jones knew her club was the right fit after her first outing. “They did a really good job in explaining the different pace groups,” she says. “As someone who’s approaching 40, it has been a blessing to find friends of all ages here at this stage in life.”(琼斯在第一次出场后就知道她的俱乐部很适合她。“他们在解释不同的配速分组方面做得非常好,”她说。“对于一个快40岁的人来说,在人生的这个阶段能找到各个年龄段的朋友是一种福气。”)”可知,琼斯在第一次参加活动后就知道这个俱乐部很适合她,因为俱乐部在解释不同的配速分组方面做得很好,而且在这里她能找到各个年龄段的朋友。所以最吸引琼斯的是俱乐部分组的能力。故选A项。 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 In the journey of life, there’s an often ignored hero — labor. Yes, that’s right, good old-fashioned hard work. Whether it’s mowing lawns, babysitting, or washing dishes, the act of laboring not only fills pockets but also shapes characters and molds futures. Let’s face it, we live in a world where instant satisfaction is the norm (标准). But what if we told you that delaying that satisfaction and putting in some good, honest sweat can actually be beneficial? It’s true! 36 37 Imagine a teenager tasked with mowing lawns for a summer job. Suddenly, they’re responsible for showing up on time, doing a thorough job, and managing their earnings. These are life skills that no classroom lecture can match. Moreover, labor breeds (培养) perseverance. 38 Instead of throwing in the towel, they persevere, learning from each setback and growing stronger in the process. This perseverance becomes a cornerstone (基石) for success in all aspects of life. But perhaps the most profound impact of labor is its ability to foster empathy and appreciation. 39 As teenagers serve meals to the less fortunate, they gain a newfound perspective on privilege and gratitude. Suddenly, that new smartphone doesn’t seem as important as lending a helping hand to those in need. In conclusion, labor isn’t just about earning a paycheck but it’s also about shaping character and building a foundation for success. So, the next time you see a teenager sweating it out on a hot summer day, remember — 40 A.Labour is significantly beneficial to health. B.Take, for instance, volunteering at a local soup kitchen. C.labor isn’t just about earning money and training skills. D.First, labor gradually acquires a sense of responsibility. E.Imagine a young adult facing rejection after rejection while job hunting. F.they’re not just mowing lawns, they’re paving their path to a brighter future. G.The process of laboring teaches invaluable lessons that textbooks simply can’t convey. 【答案】36.G 37.D 38.E 39.B 40.F 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了在人生的旅程中,劳动和劳动技能的培养不仅赚了钱,而且塑造了性格,塑造了未来,这是从书本上不能获得的。 36.上文“But what if we told you that delaying that satisfaction and putting in some good, honest sweat can actually be beneficial? It’s true!(但如果我们告诉你,推迟这种满足,投入一些好的、诚实的劳动实际上是有益呢?这是真的!)”是肯定劳动是有好处的,那么下文将说明劳动有哪些好处。选项G“The process of laboring teaches invaluable lessons that textbooks simply can’t convey. (劳动的过程教会了教科书无法传达的宝贵教训。)”符合语境。故选G。 37.这是段首句,是标题句。下文“Suddenly, they’re responsible for showing up on time, doing a thorough job, and managing their earnings. These are life skills that no classroom lecture can match. (突然之间,他们很负责,会按时到场,从头到尾多做工作,并管理自己的收人。这些都是任何课堂讲座都无法匹配的生活技能。)”是说明劳动会培养责任感。选项D“First, labor gradually acquires a sense of responsibility (首先,劳动逐渐获得了一种责任感。)”,同时,First与下文的Moreover呼应。故选D。 38.根据上文“Moreover, labor breeds perseverance. (此外,劳动还能培养出毅力。)”和下文“Instead of throwing in the towel, they persevere, learning from each setback and growing stronger in the process. This perseverance becomes a cornerstone for success in all aspects of life. (他们没有认输,而是坚持不懈,从每一次挫折中学习,并在这个过程中变得更强大。这种毅力成为了在生活的各个方面取得成功的基石。)”,可知空格处要举例说明劳动如何培养出毅力。选项E“Imagine a young adult facing rejection after rejection while job hunting. (想象一下,一个年轻人在求职时面临被一而再的拒绝。)”符合此语境。故选E。 39.根据上文“But perhaps the most profound impact of labor is its ability to foster empathy and appreciation. (但也许劳动最深刻的影响是它培养共情心和欣赏的能力。)”和下文“As teenagers serve meals to the less fortunate, they gain a newfound perspective on privilege and gratitude. (当青少年为不幸的人提供食物时,他们对特权和感激有了一种新的看法。)”,可知空格处引出了如何培养共情心和欣赏的能力的例子,可以承接上文,引出下文。选项B“Take, for instance, volunteering at a local soup kitchen. (以在当地的施粥所做志愿者为例。)”符合此语境。故选B。 40.本句是文章尾段的尾句,结合上文“In conclusion, labor isn’t just about earning a paycheck but it’s also about shaping character and building a foundation for success. (总之,劳动不仅仅在于挣钱,还在于塑造性格和为成功奠定基础。)”,可知破折号后对劳动的意义进一步说明,给出了忠告。选项F“So, the next time you see a teenager sweating it out on a hot summer day, remember — they’re not just mowing lawns, they’re paving their path to a brighter future (所以,下次当你看到一个青少年在炎热的夏天大汗淋漓的时候,请记住——他们不只是在修剪草坪,他们还在为通往更光明的未来铺平道路。)”符合语境。故选F。 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 By my early 40s, I had exhausted all the hobbies that were supposed to make me feel better about entering middle age. Keith Warren grew up fascinated by barbering — the art of cutting and styling hair.

The Discovery of Germs was an enlightening read, briefly summing up the people and events that led to our modern understanding of “germs” or microorganisms (微生物).
One of my favorite quotes from this book was, “If there is some kind of ‘living force' capable of assembling prior elements into new and unique creations, that force is human concentration.”
Overall, The Discovery of Germs was highly educational and I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to learn about the measures that had to be taken to make our medical practices and prolong life expectancy.
D
Before joining Washington D.C.-based District Running Collective, Fallon Jones wasn’t a runner.
“You’re also going to recover faster and reduce your risk of injuries.”
Conversational running is also good for your relationships.
“As someone who’s approaching 40, it has been a blessing to find friends of all ages here at this stage in life.”
32.What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
In the journey of life, there’s an often ignored hero — labor.
It’s true! 36
37 Imagine a teenager tasked with mowing lawns for a summer job.
So, the next time you see a teenager sweating it out on a hot summer day, remember — 40
A.Labour is significantly beneficial to health.

By my early 40s, I had exhausted all the hobbies that were supposed to make me feel better about entering middle age. At the 41 of my low-grade desperation, I decided to sign up for a ballet class.
I nearly 42 myself the first time I tried to lift my leg onto our table in an attempt to stretch. I could see how I didn’t exactly look like 43 ballerina material. But I was 44 to give it a try.
Though I’d expected my classes to be 45 demanding, I hadn’t anticipated that my teacher’s command to“ 46 more space” would change my way of being in the world. When I lamented (悲叹) my lack of elegance in the 47 act, my teacher reminded me that ballet isn’t about perfection. 48 , he said, it’s about 49 perfection.
Slowly, I started becoming more 50 with the body I saw staring back at me in the mirror. My posture (姿态) still needs 51 , but the idea that my body is still a work in 52 encourages me. Ballet is 53 me to rethink my relationship with my body, and instead of noticing only the beginnings of older age descending (降临) upon me. I’ve learned to stand with more 54 .
When I do my daily ballet class, I focus on my breathing and move my body in ways that always 55 me and remind me of everything that is possible.

On a fresh autumn morning, the air was filled with the scent of fallen leaves and the promise of adventure as I made my way from Canmore to New York City. My heart was flipping with anticipation, each beat echoing the thrill and pleasure of attending a famous art studio in the heart of the city and trading my paintings.
I imagined the busy streets of the city, the towering skyscrapers, and the creative energy that pulsed through every corner. This studio was more than just an opportunity; it was a dream that would come true, and a milestone I had been eagerly waiting for.
As I climbed into the taxi to the airport, the driver, a friendly man with a warm smile, greeted me with a cheerful “Good morning”. I responded with a nod, my mind already racing ahead to the studio in that city.
“First-time travel?” he asked, catching my gaze in the rear-view mirror (后视镜). “Yes, a big-deal trip in New York,” I replied, my voice tinged with excitement. The driver smiled with a knowing look and said, “Ah, New York! Enjoy your flight. Just watch out for the traffic!”
As we chatted, I felt a sense of calm wash over me. The driver showed good manners and the sound of the engine was comforting. And I allowed myself to relax into the moment. The view of Canmore slowly gave way to the open road, and I watched as the landscape transformed, each mile bringing me closer to my destination.
But my excitement quickly turned to upset as I stood in the security line at Calgary International Airport. My hands were shockingly empty, no familiar weight of my painting supplies. They were all gone, likely forgotten in the back of the taxi in my rush to catch the flight.
A wave of helplessness washed over me when I realized it’s my carelessness that caused this to happen. I stood frozen, my mind racing through the implications of arriving in New York without my painting supplies.

Keith Warren grew up fascinated by barbering — the art of cutting and styling hair.

The Discovery of Germs was an enlightening read, briefly summing up the people and events that led to our modern understanding of “germs” or microorganisms (微生物).

Before joining Washington D.C.-based District Running Collective, Fallon Jones wasn’t a runner.
“You’re also going to recover faster and reduce your risk of injuries.”
Conversational running is also good for your relationships.
“As someone who’s approaching 40, it has been a blessing to find friends of all ages here at this stage in life.”
32.What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about?

In the journey of life, there’s an often ignored hero — labor.
It’s true! 36
37 Imagine a teenager tasked with mowing lawns for a summer job.
So, the next time you see a teenager sweating it out on a hot summer day, remember — 40
A.Labour is significantly beneficial to health.
B.Take, for instance, volunteering at a local soup kitchen.
C.labor isn’t just about earning money and training skills.
D.First, labor gradually acquires a sense of responsibility.
E.Imagine a young adult facing rejection after rejection while job hunting.
