【答案】17.B 18.B 19.C 20.A
【原文】
M: Hi, everyone. I am the health coach of MLK health center. Here I want to talk about fitness trackers, which have been popular in some fitness communities in the last few years. But now the idea of not wearing running watches is gaining popularity. Why?
If people forget to wear the device, they are less likely to exercise, because they wouldn’t receive credit for their efforts. Another potential concern is that some people feel controlled or pressured by the devices if they didn't achieve their goals.
Running watch-free can also be beneficial. Olympic marathoner Trevor Hofbauer made headlines for winning the 2019 Canadian Marathon Championships. He stopped tracking his pace years ago and only trains based on his overall running time.
So if you have a fitness watch, I am not saying that it's all bad. But if you find yourself being a little addicted and caring too much about what the watch says, then you may check yourself and take it off a few days a week.

B
In college, I usually anticipated icebreaker games at the start of some classes. We would introduce ourselves. It was fun to see the look of surprise on everyone’s face when I said I was a chemical engineering major in creative writing seminars where most were English or comparative literature majors. A science major? In this building? Is he lost?
Their surprise would usually fade once the semester began and they learned that I wasn’t very good. But it didn’t matter; I loved the writing classes. I didn’t much care—how and whether my classes would impact my career. I liked science and writing, so maybe I’d combine them, or maybe not.
But I know my experience is not exactly typical for scientists. I’m sure some students love science so intensely, or excel at it so much, that they have no interest in non-science classes. And science students may find the workload so high that pursuing outside academic interests is impractical.
But I have this fear that some science students avoid branching out, not because they don’t want to, but because they believe they’re not supposed to. They see their peers keeping their heads down, only focused on science, science, science, and they don’t want to be the freaks (怪人) who admit loving their optional medieval history seminar. I’ve seen this trait in the students I taught.
In college, although my department head let me take writing classes, other professors didn’t share the same open-mindedness. I sometimes doubted whether it was what I was supposed to do. The science, we’re told, either explicitly or implicitly, is the important part. The other subjects are either requirements to bear or distractions to give up halfway. A good grade in organic chemistry? Amazing! You’re going places! A good grade in a poetry seminar? Well...
You can be a scientist and do other things, too—and the time when you’re enrolled in school is a perfect opportunity. In college, so many options for classes! You suddenly transition from a life where it’s presumed that you have known enough to live to one with a diversity of choices.
So go ahead, add a class, add a hobby. Be well-rounded—yes, that well-rounded.
24.Why did the author, a science student, choose the writing seminar?
A.To play a scientific game. B.To investigate the brain function.
C.To satisfy his personal pursuit. D.To seek an opportunity to jump ship.
25.What characteristic does the author find in some of his students?
A.Focusing on doing better at medieval history.
B.Escaping expanding their fields out of peer pressure.
C.Developing outer potential academic interests.
D.Showing no passion for non-science classes naturally.
26.What can we infer from Paragraph 5?
A.Scientists are open-minded in academic study.
B.Every subject makes for your achievements.
C.All the subjects are not attached great importance to.
D.Self-doubt is the cause of poor grades.
27.What is the best title for the text?
A.To Become a Well-Rounded scientist. B.To Foster a Hobby in College.
C.To Author for Science. D.To Specialize in Science in College.
【答案】24.C 25.B 26.C 27.A
【导语】本文是一篇夹叙夹议文。主要探讨了一些理科生因各种原因避免涉猎其他学科,呼吁理科生抓住在校机会,丰富自我,全面发展。
24.细节理解题。根据文章第二段中的“But it didn’t matter; I loved the writing classes. I didn’t much care—how and whether my classes would impact my career. I liked science and writing, so maybe I’d combine them, or maybe not.(但这没关系;我喜欢写作课。我不太在乎我的课程会如何以及是否会影响我的职业生涯。我喜欢科学和写作,所以也许我会把它们结合起来,也许不会)”可知,作者作为一名科学专业的学生,选择参加写作研讨会是为了满足个人追求,而不是为了玩科学游戏、调查大脑功能或寻找跳槽的机会。故选C。
25.细节理解题。根据文章第四段中的“But I have this fear that some science students avoid branching out, not because they don’t want to, but because they believe they’re not supposed to. They see their peers keeping their heads down, only focused on science, science, science, and they don’t want to be the freaks (怪人) who admit loving their optional medieval history seminar.(但我担心的是,一些科学专业的学生避免拓展自己的兴趣,不是因为他们不想,而是因为他们认为自己不应该这样做。他们看到同龄人埋头苦读,只关注科学,他们不想成为承认喜欢选修中世纪历史研讨会的怪人)”可知,作者发现一些学生因为同伴压力而避免拓展自己的兴趣领域。故选B。
26.推理判断题。根据文章第五段中的“The science, we’re told, either explicitly or implicitly, is the important part. The other subjects are either requirements to bear or distractions to give up halfway. A good grade in organic chemistry? Amazing! You’re going places! A good grade in a poetry seminar? Well... (我们被明确或含蓄地告知,科学是最重要的部分。其他科目要么是必须忍受的要求,要么是半途而废的干扰。有机化学的好成绩?神奇的!你会大有作为的!诗歌研讨会的好成绩?嗯……)”可知,科学是重要的一部分,而其他科目是勉为其难必须要上的科目或者半途而废的令人分心的科目。由此可推知,并非所有学科都被重视。故选 C。
27.主旨大意题。根据文章最后一段中的“So go ahead, add a class, add a hobby. Be well-rounded—yes, that well-rounded.(所以,去吧,加一门课,加一个爱好。做一个全面发展的人——是的,全面发展)”以及通读全文可知,文章主要讲述了作者鼓励科学专业的学生在大学期间尝试不同的课程和爱好,以成为一个全面发展的人。因此,A选项“To Become a Well-Rounded scientist.(成为一个全面发展的科学家)”符合题意。故选A。
C
In Portugal, near the town of Alqueva, lies Europe’s largest artificial lake, home to an innovative floating solar-power plant developed by EDP, a leading renewable energy company. Despite initial skepticism about the high costs and potential issues of floating solar technology, this project represents the sector’s maturation and readiness for expansion.
In this first phase of the project at Alqueva, engineers have stationed some 12,000 PV modules (光伏组件) on floating platforms made from partially recycled plastic and locally sourced soft wood. These are connected to an energy-storage system combining batteries and are integrated with the hydroelectric dam’s power station.
Floating solar projects do face plenty of challenges. The kit has to be water-, wave-, wind- and storm-resistant, which adds complexity and cost. The fish in lakes attract plenty of birds, whose droppings can block the sun. To deal with this, engineers for the project at Alqueva have developed remote-controlled cleaning robots and are working on autonomous ones.
Yet floating solar projects also enjoy several advantages. When located at existing hydroelectric dams they do not require any additional land and can be connected to the grid (电网) without the multi-year wait common for solar projects. The cooling effect of being on water boosts the efficiency of the modules, with studies suggesting gains of between 5% and 15%over land-based PV, while the shade they produce slows the water loss of the lake.
EDP views floating solar as a cornerstone of its renewable energy strategy. The initial 5megawatt s (MW, 兆瓦) capacity at Alqueva may seem modest, but it’s just the beginning. The company is planning a second phase, which will see an additional 70MW capacity by 2025. According to Wood Mackenzie, a leading consultancy, floating solar technology could deliver up to 60,000MW of renewable energy globally by 2031. “This may pale in comparison to the 1,600,000MW of solar capacity installed as of last year. But every bit counts,” he added.
28.Which of the following best describes the EDP project?
A.It went unquestioned.
B.It can be costly but eco-friendly.
C.It has already expanded.
D.It is separated from the power station.
29.What can be learned about floating solar projects?
A.Engineers have developed auto cleaning robots.
B.Floating solar projects demand less time for grid access.
C.Land-based PV modules are more productive than floating ones.
D.The PV modules decrease the water level of the lake.
30.What might EDP agree with according to the last paragraph?
A.The project at Alqueva is an instant success.
B.By 2025 the project at Alqueva will provide 70MW capacity.
C.The project will generate the majority of global renewable power.
D.The floating solar technology has a promising future.
31.What is a suitable title for the text?
A.Floating Solar Ready to Shine
B.Solar Power or Hydro Power
C.The Dawn of Renewable Energy
D.A Glimpse into Global Floating Solar Farms
【答案】28.B 29.B 30.D 31.A

Nowadays, social media is widely used by millions of people to connect and share their lives. However, research suggests that excessive (过度) use of social media may lead to mental health issues like depression and anxiety.
One behavior that researchers have focused on recently is photo editing, which involves altering one's appearance in pictures before posting them on social media. While some studies have suggested that photo editing is linked to negative outcomes such as seeing oneself as an object and having low self-esteem, the relationship between these factors is not well understood.
Phillip Ozimek and his colleagues conducted a study with 403 young adults recruited through social media platforms to investigate the potential risks associated with photo editing on social media. Participants completed an online survey that included questions about their social media use, photo editing behavior, self-perception as an object, comparisons of physical appearance, self-esteem (自尊), and other relevant factors.
To measure photo editing behavior, participants reported how often they edited their selfies before posting them on social media. To assess self-perception as an object and comparisons of physical appearance, participants answered questions about how much they monitored their bodies and compared themselves to others' looks. Finally, participants' self-esteem was measured using a questionnaire that evaluated their overall sense of self-worth.
The data showed that higher levels of photo editing were associated with increased self-perception as an object and more comparisons of physical appearance among young adults. These factors, in turn, were related to lower self-esteem.
The researchers suggested that photo editing behavior may contribute to feelings of self-perception as an object and basing one's worth on appearance, especially among vulnerable groups like teenagers. They emphasized the need for further research to explore the impact of photo editing on mental health outcomes and understand why people engage in this behavior.
Although the study had some limitations, as acknowledged by Ozimek and his colleagues highlighted the importance of considering overall social media use and specific behaviors like photo editing when studying the relationship between social media and mental health outcomes. Interventions (干预) aimed at reducing excessive social media use or promoting healthier engagement with social media could have positive effects on the mental well-being of young people.
32.What were the participants asked to do in the study?
A.Fill in a questionnaire about self-worth.
B.Compare their looks with others.
C.Edit their selfies before posting.
D.See themselves as an object.
33.What does the word “vulnerable” in paragraph 6 mean?
A.Hardly protected. B.Particularly strong.
C.Easily influenced. D.Mostly independent.
34.From the passage, what can we infer?
A.The higher levels of photo editing, the higher self-esteem.
B.Reducing the overuse of social media might be beneficial to well-being.
C.Photo editing is the only behavior that affects mental health on social media.
D.The study has completely worked out the problem of the overuse of social media.
35.What is the purpose of this passage?
A.To introduce the popularity of social media.
B.To explain the detailed process of a study on photo editing.
C.To show teenagers are the most vulnerable group in using social media.
D.To explore the relationship between photo editing and negative mental states.

第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
How to stay fit while traveling rarely scores high on our priority list. Sometimes it is not that we’re not motivated to stay fit or have no time. I believe the issue is that we are out of our regular “home routine”. 36 Our brain simply can’t link the new environment to our usual habits and puts itself in “explorer’s” mode. How can we stay fit while traveling?
Have a strong vision. The best way to create motivation to stay fit is something you can visualize. If you have the visual, it is good. 37 If it helps, write it on a piece of paper and put it in your wallet. This will serve as a vision for you. Once you focus on the vision and consistently think about it, things get easier.
Prepare a “travel routine” ahead of time. Consistency is the most important part of the training process. 38 I found that having a “travel routine” helps to signal the brain that from the organizational perspective nothing has changed. It doesn’t have to be very detailed and can be as simple as a set of principles, like exercising in the morning or not eating too much after 6:00 p.m.
39 The easiest way to stay fit while traveling is to move and make active lifestyle a habit. Walk a couple of stops instead of taking the public transport. Use the stairs instead of an elevator. If there’s a nice viewpoint, look for a way to hike to it rather than drive to it. Sure, it will be tough at first, but our bodies are good at adapting to anything. 40
A.Go for a run.
B.Walk and explore more.
C.In this process, you can have great fun.
D.People, language, food—everything is different.
E.Picture it, feel it and, most importantly, focus on it.
F.Gradually, you’ll become stronger and start enjoying it.
G.Yet, traveling tends to break our regular pattern and change our focus.

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I always feel that there is a volcano inside me. Occasionally, the volcano erupts and I say something I regret. The best way I know to repair the damage is with food, which can open the door of a heart that is hurt, even if only a little.
Weeks before, I’d displeased a friend and hurt my teenage son, all within six hours. I felt like a hurricane that tore through other people’s lives. I’d pulled together a dozen of chocolate cookies dough (面团), baking a half-dozen to beg forgiveness from my friend and my son, and putting the remaining half-dozen in the freezer, unbaked.
Last week, the frozen cookie dough saved me from myself once again. It all started when my new neighbor, a college student across the street, placed a Ping-Pong table on his front lawn.
I had spent years living in a college town, so I knew that a Ping-Pong table on a front lawn was not just a Ping-Pong table. It was a beer-pong table. The students embraced beer pong as a lifestyle, with the sounds of beer pong extending late into the night and early into the morning.
The best we could do was move to a quieter part of town, which we did at great expense. And now, here was this guy, placing a new beer-pong table within full view of my new kitchen window.
When I saw that beer-pong table, the memories of drunk and loud college students made my blood boil. So I walked right up to the student’s house, past that stupid table, knocked on the door and told him that it had to go. I expected him to apologize and remove the table. However, he returned my anger in the same manner.
“Who the hell are you?” he asked. “And what gives you the right to make such a silly demand?” His rudeness only made me angrier.
I felt a drag on my arm: my husband. He had seen the table and had predicted I’d be on the warpath.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
As he pulled me away, I shouted at the young man and told him this wasn’t over.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Then I walked what felt like miles across the street to the young man’s doorstep.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 As he pulled me away, I shouted at the young man and told him this wasn’t over. My husband led me back home, my anger still boiling. But as I entered the kitchen, my eyes landed on the frozen cookie dough in the freezer. I took a deep breath, realizing that I had let my temper get the best of me again. I decided to make the cookies, hoping they could work their magic like they had before. The sweet aroma of chocolate filled the air, which soothed my lingering anger.
Then I walked what felt like miles across the street to the young man’s doorstep. With a plate of freshly baked cookies in hand, I knocked on the door. When he opened it, his expression was still guarded. With my face flushing, I apologized, “These cookies are my way of asking for your forgiveness.” He looked at the cookies, then back at me, and replied, “I’m sorry too.” He even offered to move the table to a less visible spot. At that moment, I realized once again that food had the power to bridge the gap between people, and to heal the wounds caused by angry words.
