第二节 (满分25分)
Max and Sam exchanged an excited glance. “That’s a great idea, Ava!” Max exclaimed. Sam nodded in agreement, his eyes shining with determination. Without hesitation, they quickly divided the tasks. Max ran to fetch some trash bags from his nearby home. Ava and Sam started collecting the larger pieces of garbage first, like the chip bags and plastic bottles. As they worked, Ava hummed a little tune, and the others joined in. Their laughter and songs filled the park, making the cleanup seem more like a fun game.
Unexpectedly, other parkgoers joined in as they did the cleanup. An elderly couple, who were taking a stroll, saw what they were doing and decided to lend a hand. A group of kids playing nearby also came over, eager to help make the park clean again. With more people joining, the cleanup went much faster. Before long, the playground was clean once more. The slides and swings sparkled in the sun, and the grassy fields were free of trash. Max, Ava, and Sam looked at each other, beaming with pride. They realized that with everyone’s effort, they could make a difference and keep their beloved park beautiful.

Toh Hong Keng is one of the oldest medical graduates in the world, if not the oldest. At the age of 70, the retired Malaysian manager got his degree from Southwestern University PHINMA.
“My family and friends were surprised at first. Several of my friends thought I was crazy to want to study medicine at this age,” Toh said. “It wasn’t always easy. At 65 to 70 years old, my memory, eyesight, hearing and body are not as good as when I was younger.”
After decades working as a tech seller, he retired in 2019. A few days later, he began studying and applying to medical schools around Asia. “The only reason why I decided to do so was that I wanted to do something useful,” he said.
One of the obstacles Toh met was finding a university that would admit him, as most are just for applicants under 35 or 40. Once admitted to Southwestern University PHINMA, he dealt with the school closures due to the pandemic. He had to take all of his lectures online, which was not easy for him.
“Studying medicine is hard. It’s just hard work,” Toh said. He wasn’t given special treatment. He was held back a year after failing an exam in his third year. And like the rest of his classmates, in his final year, Toh was required to complete a one-year placement (实习工作) at a hospital, with some shifts lasting up to 30 hours.
That’s why his family and classmates often visited him, inspiring him to keep going. “I was initially surprised and curious about why he wanted to become a doctor at his age,” one of his classmates said. “Despite being older, Toh was no less of a student. He was really competitive, and a true inspiration. I’m proud to have graduated alongside such a remarkable individual.”
4.What’s the purpose of Toh’s studying medicine?
A.To improve his work. B.To realize a lifelong dream.
C.To benefit other people. D.To give his friends a surprise.
5.What was a challenge for Toh when studying medicine?
A.Attending online lectures. B.Getting admitted to a famous college.
C.Asking for special treatment. D.Finding a hospital for his placement.
6.What can we learn about Toh from his classmate’s words?
A.Toh was as good a student as others. B.Toh was a big trouble for his classmates.
C.Toh got a lot of help from his classmates. D.Toh often inspired his classmates to keep going.
7.What message does the text convey?
A.Lifelong learning matters in modern society. B.Anyone can pursue their dreams at any age.
C.Universities should be open to older applicants. D.Age is not a problem in becoming a tech seller.

Truck drivers and doctors are among more than 1,000 people who participated in Deep Time, a “citizen science project” which has employed the power of hobbyists to explore 512 sq km of Earth Observation data. Participants were searching for ancient features across three distinct landscapes: an area of the Peak District covering Derbyshire, West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire; Wallington in Northumberland; and Purbeck and Studland in Dorset.
They have found 262 possible Bronze Age barrows (古坟) and three Roman roads, among other discoveries. The project is a partnership between DigVentures, an archaeology (考古) social initiative, and the National Trust, which owns and manages large areas of those landscapes.
Dr Brendon Wilkins, founder and co-director of DigVentures, said: “Thanks to our citizen scientists, we were able to map much larger areas, in much greater detail, and much more quickly than professional archaeologists alone could have done. I’m really excited by the scale of the features that have been found. We can go out now into the field, with many of the participants who have helped us find these sites, field-check them and potentially also dig them.”
Founded in 2012, DigVentures enables public participation in archaeology. Thousands of people are drawn to its activities. The project, which is funded by Innovate UK and the Heritage Innovation Fund, also relates to the impact of the climate crisis on our landscapes: “the interconnectedness between our historic environment and our natural environments,” Wilkins said, noting that mapping archaeological and ecological “assets (资产)” can better plan reforestation work, for example, without damaging existing archaeology.
Tom Dommett, head of historic environment at the National Trust, said: “Climate change already affects some of our most distinctive landscapes, and we’re taking significant steps to make them more adaptable. We’re excited by the huge collective effort that went into this project from citizen scientists to help us do even more of this work.”
8.What were the participants in Deep Time asked to do?
A.Provide related medical services.
B.Develop a hobby for archaeology.
C.Survey the landscapes for ancient features.
D.Collect images of the overdeveloped landscapes.
9.What did Wilkins say about the citizen scientists?
A.They’ve helped extend the project’s achievement.
B.They’ve introduced effective digging methods.
C.They’ve helped collect more much-needed funds.
D.They’ve learned a lot from professional archaeologists.
10.What function is expected of DigVentures according to paragraph 4?
A.To guide the restoration of historical sites.
B.To provide references for conservation planning.
C.To improve public awareness of the climate crisis.
D.To give folks opportunities to learn science.
11.What does Dommett think of the joint effort?
A.Pioneering. B.Preventive. C.Remarkable. D.Fruitless.

At a crop breeding (培育) center in Shanghai, researchers have successfully harvested rice that was grown from seeds initially bred on China’s space station, Tiangong. The rice plants have completed a full growth cycle on Earth, maturing after more than 100 days since planting.
This space-to-ground experiment began with 6 rice seeds sent into orbit in 2022 on the Wentian spacecraft. Taikonauts onboard Tiangong bred these seeds into 59, which they returned to Earth. Researchers then selected high-quality seeds, growing them under controlled climate conditions and producing around 10,000 new seeds.
Zheng Huiqiong, a lead researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Center, shared that the team’s findings suggest space-bred seeds can reproduce effectively on Earth, suggesting potential for future space agriculture. Zheng highlighted that the space-bred rice possesses unique traits, such as a higher sugar content, with sugar levels estimated to be five to six times higher than standard rice. The space-bred rice also showed a slight increase in protein content. “That means space-bred rice tastes sweeter and has more energy,” she added.
Space breeding, the method used in this experiment, exposes seeds to space radiation and microgravity, generating gene mutations (基因突变). These mutations are carefully assessed upon the seeds’ return to Earth, sometimes resulting in advantageous traits like shorter growth times, improved disease resistance, and higher output. Zhao Hui, an expert in China Academy of Space Technology, emphasized the safety of space-bred food, explaining that unlike genetically modified crops, space-bred seeds naturally mutate without introducing foreign genes. However, the space-bred rice has fewer leaves, which complicates close planting. Researchers are planning further studies to understand these leaf traits and explore possible genetic changes.
The Tiangong rice experiment marked a milestone for crop science, as it was the first time that rice had completed a full life cycle — from seed germination (发芽) to reproduction — in orbit.
12.What can we know about the space-to-ground experiment?
A.Seeds grown in orbit promise higher crop quality.
B.Seeds bred in space were further grown successfully on Earth.
C.New species of seeds grown in space have achieved great success.
D.Climate conditions were controlled when seeds were sent into orbit.
13.What does the underlined words “traits” mean in paragraph 3?
A.Materials. B.Arrangements. C.Disadvantages. D.Characteristics.
14.What does Zhao Hui stress about the space-bred rice?
A.Its security. B.Its artificial process.
C.Its nutrition. D.Its major shortcoming.
15.Which of the following is the best title?
A.Organic Farming: High-quality Planting in Space
B.Space Exploration: A Journey to the Space and Beyond
C.New Planting Approach: Replacing the Traditional Farming
D.Space-to-ground Cycle: Promising Future Space Agriculture

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
In ancient times, the more information our ancestors had, the more likely they were to survive. However, nowadays, this is the first time in history that humans have been exposed to such a constant flow of information. While it’s important to stay informed, too much information can make us feel confused and anxious. As we all know, too many high-calorie foods can lead to obesity. 16
We’ re not just seeking relevant information to increase our chances of survival anymore. We fall into rabbit holes, scroll (滚屏) our feeds mindlessly, and watch video after video by clicking on the recommended links. 17 And we have lost control over the content we consume. Just as you try to eat healthily to improve your physical health, going on an information diet is a way to control what you consume to take care of your mental health. Here are some simple ways to start an information diet to break the information addiction.
Prevent unwanted information. 18 Make sure to set up filters. Try some apps to unsubscribe from unwanted emails.
Dress the table. Shape your environment to make sure you’re not overly tempted to have access to too much useless information. 19 For example, you can change your social media settings to reduce the number of notifications.
Add more offline foods to your content menu. Increase your levels of “offline foods” — content you can consume away from a screen and that you can purchase or download in advance.
20 It’s incredibly effective to block time for reading stuff online. If you’re really struggling with information addiction, you can even put a timer on. This will force you to prioritize information that really matters.
A.Focus on reading stuff online.
B.We are addicted to information.
C.Schedule your content consumption.
D.Subscribing to many newsletters can quickly become a mess.
E.You can also adopt some effective strategies to reduce distractions.
F.Similarly, this new information overload encourages over consumption.
G.Instead, it’s about designing your habits and shaping your environment.

As the school year wrapped up and the first days of summer vacation stretched out before them, Max, Ava, and Sam had a perfect day planned at their usual community park. This tidy little park was their go - to spot for unwinding and just enjoying some precious leisure time.
Max rushed ahead with a soccer ball under his arm, Ava and Sam trailing closely behind, full of energy. It was the kind of day that promised endless fun and carefree laughter. But as they stepped into the park, their heart sank. The once - beloved playground was now a chaotic mess of discarded trash (乱扔的垃圾) — candy wrappers stuck in the slide’s metal bars, plastic bottles rolling in the wind, and chip bags lying underfoot.
“Look at this!” Ava shouted in disbelief as she pointed to the garbage near the swings.
Max’s face darkened with frustration. The three friends stood frozen, their eyes scanning the playground area. The once clean slides and swings were now buried under a layer of candy wrappers and plastic bottles. Ava cast a glance (瞥一眼) at the walking trails, where garbage seemed to have taken over, with discarded bags and cans lying everywhere. Sam looked out at the grassy fields — a disaster. The park was vast, but every corner seemed to have been touched by the carelessness of others.
“Who would be so thoughtless?” Max whispered, shaking his head.
Sam kicked a plastic bottle in anger, sending it flying across the grass. “It’s not just thoughtless — it’s disrespectful.”
Ava sighed thoughtfully but suddenly her face lit up. “We can’t just leave it like this. Why don’t we do something about it? We can, say, form a Cleanup Squad (清洁小分队)…” she said, her voice soft but determined.

第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
【答案】16.F 17.B 18.D 19.E 20.C

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

【答案】

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
