Tips on Creating Your Own Art Book
An art book is not meant to collect dust on a bookshelf. It’s a piece of limited edition artwork that should be shown off, like a coffee table book.
What is an art book?
An art book, found in galleries or studios, shows an artist's work on one topic. The theme can be broad or very specific. One example is the great German-American artist Gerhard Richter who produced a single work September.
What do artists include in art books?
Now the hard bit. Artists who have created photography books have typically had to narrow down thousands of images to just a few. For a painter creating an anthology(选集), this will likely be less. And if the book is a concept book, the work will be created specifically for each step or page in the book.
Some of the most famous art books are an anthology of photographs along a certain theme, which might be biographical (传记的) or explore a certain subject. One of the earliest photography books was Robert Frank’s The Americans.
Practical elements of an art book
Once you’ve decided on the contents, it's time to consider the practical elements of producing an art book.
·Layout
Consider which image comes first, and what sits next to what. If you are combining images and text, always place the image on the right-hand page. This makes it easier to view the picture in full.
·Publishing and printing
Most highly prized art books are published and printed by specialist publishers. If you are self-publishing your art books, you will need to go down a similar route to get high-quality print. You should consider the paper you use. Its weight needs to be heavy enough so that the images from the other side of the page doesn't bleed. Art books are most often square or landscape in shape.
21. What can we know about an art book from the text?
A. It’s mainly for collection. B. It can be displayed proudly.
C. It always has a very narrow theme. D. It is usually found in common bookstores.
22. What is a common challenge for artists creating photography books?
A. Selecting a theme. B. Printing the images.
C. Designing the layout. D. Narrowing down images.
23. What should you consider if you want to self-publish your art book with high-quality print?
A. The price of the book. B. The weight of the paper.
C. The number of images included. D. The gallery where the book will be displayed.

One day, Frank Torok was at a Pizza Hut store, opened a small pizza box, and felt very emotional thinking about the past.
“I remember getting a little Book It! Bookmark and feeling so excited to take it to Pizza Hut to get my personal pan pizza,” Torok, 37, said, referring to the six-inch pies that are given away to preschool through sixth grade students who meet their reading goals as part of Pizza Hut’s Book It! reading program. Torok is one of more than 70 million people who have participated in the Book It! program, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this month.
“When you have millions of kids who refer to the program as a ‘core memory’ of their childhood and school experience, you have created something magical,” said Carl Loredo, the president of Pizza Hut.
Here’s how the program works: In exchange for meeting their monthly reading goals, students are given certificates by their teachers. Readers can then bring these documents to a Pizza Hut location and leave with Book It! souvenirs, like buttons and bookmarks — and, of course, their very own pizza.
The initiative was founded in October 1984 by Arthur Gunther, then the president of Pizza Hut, in response to a call from President Ronald Reagan encouraging America’s businesses to get involved in education. Gunther was particularly inspired by his son, Michael, who had difficulty reading growing up because of eye problems.
Since the program was established four decades ago, it has provided more than 1.5billion free pizzas to young readers. Reagan himself commended the program in a letter he wrote in 1985, calling it a “creative initiative,” and, in 1989, the first lady Barbara Bush ordered Pizza Hut pizzas for 200 children for a literacy event she hosted at the White House.
“The program stands out because it has been around for a long time in the world of companies doing good things,” said Peter Golder, a professor of marketing at Dartmouth College’s Tuck School of Business who has researched the fast-food industry.
24. What can be concluded about the Book It! program from paragraph 2?
A. It was founded by Frank Torok. B. It only targets preschool students.
C. It provides free pizza to all students. D. It rewards students’ reading achievements.
25. Why did Arthur Gunther found the Book It! program?
A. To increase Pizza Hut’s sales B. To create a marketing campaign.
C. To respond to President Reagan's request. D. To help his son with reading difficulties.
26. What does the underlined word “commended” in paragraph 6 probably mean?
A. Praised. B. Criticized. C. Ignored. D. Questioned.
27. What is Peter Golder’s opinion on the Book It! program?
A. It is a response to a national call.
B. It is ineffective in promoting reading.
C. It aims to change children’s reading habit.
D. It is notable for its long-term efforts in doing good.
C
Cattle farming is essential for food production, however, it contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions. Researchers at the University of California, Davis, have proposed a natural solution to reduce this impact: seaweed.
Adding seaweed to cow food can help reduce methane (甲烷) emissions from grazing (放牧) cattle. They say this could make “cattle farming more sustainable.”
“Beef cattle spend only about three months in feedlots (饲养场) and spend most of their lives grazing on grasslands and producing methane,” said Ermias Kebreab, senior author professor in the Department of Animal Science. “We need to make this seaweed additive or any feed additive more accessible to grazing cattle to make cattle farming more sustainable while meeting the global demand for meat.”
According to the press release, this is the first of its kind study to explore seaweed’s potential to reduce methane emissions from grazing beef cattle. Earlier studies have showcased that seaweed can reduce methane emissions from feedlot cattle by 82 percent and dairy cows by more than half.
To test the effectiveness of seaweed as a methane-reducing supplement (补充剂),researchers divided 24 beef cattle into two groups. One group received a seaweed supplement, while the other served as a control. Over a 10-week period at a Montana farm, the grazing cattle voluntarily consumed the supplement. A specialized machine measured the emission rate. The findings showcased a significant 40 percent reduction in methane emissions.
Most studies on reducing methane emissions through feed additives have been conducted in controlled settings. For instance, feedlots, where cattle receive daily supplements. However, Kebreab’s research highlights that many of these methods are not suitable for grazing cattle, which have different dietary needs and behaviors.
Cattle are responsible for a significant 14.5 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. They release methane during digestion due to their diet being rich in fibrous grass. The researchers highlight that grazing cattle release more methane compared to feedlot or dairy cattle. This study offers a potential solution to make cattle grazing more environmentally friendly.
28. What is the main purpose of adding seaweed to cattle’s diet?
A. To reduce methane emissions. B. To improve the taste of the meat.
C. To increase the weight of the cattle. D. To increase the nutritional value of beef.
29. What did Ermias Kebreab say about beef cattle?
A. They spend all their lives in feedlots.
B. They produce methane mainly in feedlots.
C. They spend most of their lives eating grass outside.
D. They need more feed additives to meet the global demand for meat.
30. What is the function of the last paragraph?
A. To introduce the dietary needs of cattle. B. To stress the importance of the study.
C. To explain the global gas emissions. D. To criticize previous studies.
31. Where can this text probably be found?
A. In a science magazine. B. In a fashion magazine.
C. In a travel guide. D. In a cookbook.

Think back to the last time you wrote down a quick note or made a grocery list. Chances are that it wasn’t with pen and paper. Over the past decade, keyboards and screens have quietly replaced handwriting in our daily routines, from classrooms to office meetings. Yet, research shows that putting pen to paper offers cognitive(认知) benefits that digital tools can’t match.
“Statistically most studies on the relationship between handwriting and memory show that people are better at remembering things that they have written down than on a computer,” says Naomi Susan Baron, a professor of linguistics at American University in Washington D. C. From improved memory retention(保留) to enhanced learning outcomes, here’s how maintaining the art of handwriting can significantly impact how we absorb and keep information.
The benefits of writing by hand can partly owe to the engagement of multiple senses in the writing process. “Holding a pen with our fingers, pressing it on a surface, and moving our hands to create letters and words is a complex thinking and movement skill that requires a lot of our attention,” says Mellissa Prunty from Brunel University, who has researched the relationship between handwriting and learning.
“This deeper level of processing, which involves mapping sounds to letter formations, has been shown to support reading and spelling in children,” Prunty continues. The physical act of writing helps strengthen memory and improve learning outcomes, making it an important tool for educational growth.
Adults also benefit from the labor-intensive(劳动密集型) nature of handwriting. A study involving 42 adults learning Arabie found that participants who learned letters by writing them down by hand were quicker to recognize them, had an easier time naming them, and were better at sounding the newly learned letters out compared with people who were asked to learn the new characters by typing or by just looking at them.
“We think that our results can be partly explained by how handwriting activates different pathways to the same concept,” says Robert Wiley, a professor of psychology at the University of North Carolina Greensboro and co-author of the study. “Handwriting can activate more connections across these different aspects compared with typing,” he says.
32. Why is handwriting better for remembering things compared to typing?
A. Handwriting is more visually appealing.
B. Handwriting is more fun and enjoyable.
C. Typing is too fast and makes it hard to concentrate.
D. Handwriting engages many senses and requires more attention.
33. What’s a good thing about handwriting for kids according to Mellissa Prunty?
A. It helps them to focus better. B. It makes learning more entertaining.
C. It improves their fine movement skills. D. It supports reading and spelling.
34. What’s the main finding of the study involving 42 adults learning Arabic?
A. Adults preferred typing to handwriting.
B Handwriting helped adults to learn Arabic faster.
C. Typing new characters was the best way to learn.
D. Handwriting did not improve memory retention.
35. What would be the best title for the text?
A. The Benefits of Handwriting.
B. The Decline of Handwriting.
C. How to Improve Memory through Handwriting.
D. The Difference Between Handwriting and Typing.

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
As I’ve grown older, my connection to nature has become stronger. Recently, I was fortunate to spend a good part of a week in the wilderness, following the teachings of my father from my childhood. Ever since I was 10, my sister, father, and I would load up his canoe (独木舟) with supplies and set off into the heart of Algonquin Park.
There were years when I ignored the call of Algonquin, caught up in the busyness of life —graduating from school and raising young children. It all felt incredibly demanding. But as time passed, my children grew older, and the call of Algonquin grew louder.
With the support of my family, I finally listened to that call again, and started planning to take part in one of our family trips there. My family's rich experience in the outdoors has been invaluable for such trips. My sister, a teacher, carefully planned our trips while my dad, a skilled outdoorsman, effortlessly handled tasks like setting up camp and preparing meals. And my husband is really strong and good at moving things around.
But, as the trip got closer, my husband suddenly hurt his leg. And suddenly, I was faced with managing the first part of the trip as the only adult. Could I drive my daughter, alone, to Algonquin's remote north boundary to meet my dad and mom? Could I steer (驾驶) the canoe? Could I carry the canoe?
I had driven across Canada, alone, in my twenties, well before Google Maps. I was pretty sure I could steer if we kept to smaller lakes that were less likely to become windswept. But I feared carrying a canoe. Plus, lifting it onto my shoulders seemed impossible for someone of my strength. But Algonquin was calling me. I recalled the fearless independence of my younger self and called Dad.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“If we shorten the route and find a lightweight canoe, we are coming,” I told him.

【67题答案】
【答案】参考范文
“If we shorten the route and find a lightweight canoe, we are coming,” I told him. With his guidance, we chose a more manageable path and rented a lightweight canoe that was easier to handle. Despite my initial doubts, we started our adventure, determined to meet my parents at the appointed spot. The journey was filled with challenges, but with each one we overcame, my confidence grew. Sailing the lake was less frightening than I had expected, and my daughter proved to be a capable and enthusiastic co-pilot.
When we finally arrived, my parents were waiting with open arms. Their faces lit up with pride as they saw us paddle in. “You did it!” my dad cried, hugging me tightly. “We knew you could,” my mom added, her voice filled with emotion. Together, we unpacked the canoe and set up camp, sharing stories of our journey around a campfire. That night, under the starry sky, I realized that nature not only called to me but also empowered me. The wilderness helped me become stronger and more independent, reminding me of the strength I carried within.
