ABOUT AMAZONAS EXPLORER
Amazonas Explorer offers you new fun ways to see Machu Picchu and Peru. We use adventure to run away from the crowds, show you special places and create lifelong memories.
We are a small owner-operated company that loves what we do. Based in Cusco for over thirty years, we offer you world-class guides, superb safety and equipment, great backup and salesmen who really know what they are talking about.
Choose from Peru’s most all-around choice of fixed starts, with ten high-quality small-group tours each week. Or design the best custom for each customer with our honest advice, incomparable local knowledge and fast response.
We operate the best Peru family trip and count the Wanderlust World Guide of the Year among our workers. We support Travelers Against Plastic and have planted almost half a million native trees in the Lares valley since 2007 as our promise of 1% for the Planet. There is a reason that we are the choice of picky agents and travelers across the world.
SEE WHAT OUR PAST TRAVELERS HAD TO SAY
I’ve gone on two Amazonas Explorer trips and, as far as I’m concerned, they are the best trip organizers in Peru. One of the trips was the standard Inca trail hike, pulled off perfectly; the other was taking inflatable kayaks (充气皮艇) to the headwaters of the Tuichi River in Madidi National Park in Bolivia, then kayaking for a week down to the river’s mouth. I’ve known the owner, Paul Cripps, for more than twenty years — if he hadn’t personally hiked it, biked it, floated it or climbed it, then it probably simply couldn’t have been done!
21 What are Amazonas Explorer’s workers like?
A. Mild. B. Knowledgeable.
C. Humble. D. Careless.
22. All of the following are true about Amazonas Explorer EXCEPT ______.
A. It mainly aims for environmental protection. B. It has been headquartered in Cusco for decades.
C. It tailors travel arrangements to personal needs. D. It offers a wide range of local information.
23. What is the text?
A. A news report. B. A novel.
C. A biography. D. An advertisement.

As it moves across central Italy, an old train pulling carriages from the 1930s and 1950s crosses the forests of the Majella National Park and the Abruzzo highlands. The Park Railway, traveling through valleys and tunnels and over old bridges, offers visitors a view of small, rural and hidden villages in the country.
It was the first of some 1,000 kilometers of rail line to have re-opened under a project called “Timeless tracks”, which aims to take visitors to forgotten parts of Italy instead of the popular cities. The tracks have lived through different eras. They were mistakenly considered unproductive during the 1960s and 1970s but are now once again of value.
Norma Pagiotti, a 28-year-old traveler from Florence, said, “People are used to cities and places, like Florence, that everyone knows. But then there are other areas that need to be discovered. This is the right kind of tourism that does not destroy the reality of places.”
Caterina Quaranta, from southern Italy, used the term “nostalgic” to describe riding the train. “The train reminds me of my youth and the things of the past, which were simpler. But now everything is fast, short-lived,” Quaranta said.
After climbing up almost 1,000 meters in altitude, the train’s first stop is in Palena, a hill-top town known for its beautiful views over the national park. Traditional folk music accompanies people getting off the train, with local foods such as lamb skewers and soft pancakes and products by local artisans awaiting them at the station.
“The train financially helps several small towns around here.” said Gino Toppi, 60, as he helped his wife with the food stand in the small station. His village has long lost population due to the declining birth rate and younger people leaving for the bigger cities.
24. What is the main purpose of the “Timeless tracks” project?
A. To promote tourism in Italy’s popular cities.
B. To prove the old railway unproductive.
C. To connect major Italian cities.
D. To visit off-the-beaten-track destinations.
25. How did Norma Pagiotti think of exploring lesser-known areas in Italy?
A It is a waste of time compared to visiting popular cities.
B. It helps preserve the authenticity of these places.
C. It makes these areas too commercialized.
D. It is only suitable for elderly travelers.
26. How did Caterina Quaranta feel about her experience on the Park Railway?
A. Feeling a strong dislike. B. Longing for the past time.
C. Causing great worry. D. Having pleasant relaxation.
27. According to Gino Toppi, what current benefit will the railway bring to the villagers along the way?
A. The economic promotion. B. The increasing birth rate.
C. The population mobility. D. The lifestyle of big cities.

Over the past few centuries, we have dug, chopped, burned, drilled, pumped, stripped, forged, flared, lit, launched, driven, and flown our way to adding 2.4 trillion metric tons of carbon dioxide to Earth’s atmosphere. On a lonely, lunar-like valley 20 miles outside of Reykjavík, Iceland, Edda Aradóttir is on a mission to put it back where it came from.
In sending CO2 deep beneath the surface of the planet, she’s aiming to reverse one of the most consequential acts (有重要意义的行为) of human history: the unearthing of massive amounts of subterranean (地下) carbon as fossil fuels, the lifeblood of modern civilization but now its bane as well. She doesn’t have much time. Nor do the rest of us. The extreme weather and record-hot temperatures from climate change are already here — and virtually certain to get worse.
Scientists and entrepreneurs like Aradóttir are embarking on (着手) ambitious — and sometimes controversial — projects to remove carbon dioxide from ambient air and lock it away. In Arizona, an engineering professor shows me his “mechanical tree,” a single one of which may someday be able to do the work of a thousand regular trees in capturing and storing CO2. In Australia, a leading oceanographer tells me that seaweed is salvation, if only we’d help it grow in giant aqua-gardens of kelp and wakame that could harbor billions of tons of carbon dioxide. Atop a university building in Zürich, an Uruguayan inventor with a gleam in his eye presents me with a small vial of fuel made from nothing but sunlight and air.
What these efforts have in common is that they are geared in the long run to drag downward a number that climate experts agree holds the key to the health of the planet. That number is the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide. Today this critical number stands at some 420 parts per million, rising roughly 50 percent since 1850. Carbon-capture proponents say that their work — to capture the main driver of climate change, radically scaled up in coming decades — will help bring this number down.
28. What is the main idea of the first and second paragraph?
A. Too much carbon contributes to climate change.
B. Increasing carbon due to human activities urges action.
C. For hundreds of year humans have increased too much carbon.
D. Scientists should put carbon back to where it is from.
29. What does the underlined phrase “one of the most consequential acts” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A. What boosts civilization also opens Pandora’s box.
B. Human civilization leads to extremely unstable climate.
C. There is less time for us to protect our environment.
D. Modern civilization depends too much on fossil fuels.
30 Why does the author mention some scientists and entrepreneurs in paragraph 3?
A. To show their ambitions of reusing carbon.
B. To suggest the possibility of controlling carbon.
C. To offer practical ways of emitting carbon.
D To display a new evidence in scientific researches.
31 What is the best title for the text?
A. Another Possible Weapon to Fight Climate Change
B. Industrial Revolutions Spelling Disaster for Human
C. Extreme Climate Change Waiting to Be Urgently Eased
D. New Measures to Reduce Greenhouse-gas Emissions

A plague of rats is creating havoc in Karumba, a small coastal town in Queensland, Australia, where hordes of rodents (啮齿动物) are chewing on electrical wires and otherwise eating everything they can find — and washing up dead in massive numbers, creating a literal stink in the community.
The long-haired rat eats shoots and leaves — and then leaves for the north, seeking more food, researcher Emma Gray of the school of biology and environmental science at Queensland University of Technology told NPR. Like an army, the mass of rats also has a very effective, and literal, force multiplier. Gray says they can “produce 12 young every three weeks when conditions are good!”
“They come in waves,” Karumba resident Jon Jensen told the ABC radio station in Brisbane. “They almost seem trained and organized. They’re in numbers, mate, and they swim around in the rivers like little puppy dogs.” Everywhere they go, the rats eat — and eat. “They’re hungry, they’ve swum a long way, they’ve come across land a long way,” Jensen said, “and they’re eating anything and everything they can get their hands on.”
Queensland’s topography, with a river system that twists its way to the northern coast, funnels the rodents toward the shore — and dead or alive, hordes of them arrive in Karumba, a fishing and port community on the Gulf of Carpentaria. Once they’ve arrived, there’s little anyone can do to curtail the plague. Traps have been set up, he said, but in the face of such multitudes, the measure “really is a token gesture.”
However, “as quickly as the rats irrupt or ’boom’ in numbers, so too do they decline or ‘bust,’” Gray said. The decline can be linked to several factors, from a change to dry conditions to increases in inbreeding and disease — and predators that feast on the rodent influx. Feral cats, for instance, are eating well. “Generally during a rat irruption, the area also sees a significant increase in the number of predatory birds,” Gray said. He added, “This year we have them in all their glory and can’t wait for them to disappear.”
32. Which of the following can probably describe the rats in Karumba?
A. Untrained & disorganized. B. Social & reproductive.
C. Abnormal & digestive. D. Domestic & overeating.
33. Why does the rats’ migration end in Karumba?
A. Because geological features of the river system bring rats there.
B. Because there is enough food in Karumba for rats such as fishes.
C. Because the northern coast in Karumba provides habitats for rats.
D. Because the climate of the north is suitable for their inbreeding.
34. What does the author mean by “a token gesture” in paragraph 4?
A. An impossible action. B. A worthwhile task.
C. An ineffective method. D. A favorable behavior.
35. What is the main purpose of the last paragraph?
A. To describe the consequence of the plague.
B. To analyze the reasons why rats are increasing.
C. To imply a promising result of the plague.
D. To show an evident upsurge in predatory birds.

Majestic Road Hill in the suburb of our city is so steep (陡峭的) in some places that if you stopped pedaling (踩踏板), your bike would stop immediately and start to roll backwards. The uphill path is so long that it is difficult for one to make it to the top.
The thirty of us came from the same class. We had a cross-country bicycle tour that day. Once we got to its top, there were two flat places: Dairy Queen for burgers and Becker’s for homemade donuts (a small cake). Usually we had little money to spare, but for this challenging event, we all had saved up a little. The deal was simple: The first one that got to the top would get his meal paid for by the rest of us.
Ed and I had gone ahead of the whole team. We positioned ourselves at an advantageous point to observe the other riders who fell behind to struggle on the path. We reached the shortest, but steepest part of the hill, called “Heartbreak Ridge”. It got the name because many strong young people, who want to make it without their feet leaving their pedal to that point, only fail with a broken heart as they gather up bikes.
As sixteen-year-old teenagers, Ed and I were the best at climbing hills on our bikes. I had strong legs good at climbing and Ed was so strong that he could make a football fifty yards away with a kick. The hill got the steepest for us to get to the top. Our upper body had to hang over the handle bars to keep us from falling backwards. Ed was in front of me and he eventually made it to the top. He wiped sweat from his forehead and then he looked at me, cheering. “Kev, come on!” I tried. When I was nine feet away from Ed, something happened. My legs began to cramp (抽筋). I, standing on my bike, couldn’t pedal, or move forwards. I was about to lose my balance.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Just at the critical moment, Ed jumped down from the top and gave me a helping hand.

21. What are Amazonas Explorer’s workers like?
A. Mild.

A. It is a waste of time compared to visiting popular cities.
D 25. B 26. B 27. A
根据文章第二段“It was the first of some 1,000 kilometers of rail line to have re-opened under a project called “Timeless tracks”, which aims to take visitors to forgotten parts of Italy instead of the popular cities. (这是在一个名为“永恒轨道”的项目下重新开放的约1000公里铁路线中的第一条,该项目旨在将游客带到意大利被遗忘的地区,而不是热门城市。)”可知,“永恒轨道”项目的目的是让游客到这个迹罕至的地区参观。故选D。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第三段“Norma Pagiotti, a 28-year-old traveler from Florence, said, “People are used to cities and places, like Florence, that everyone knows. But then there are other areas that need to be discovered. This is the right kind of tourism that does not destroy the reality of places.” (来自佛罗伦萨的28岁旅行者诺玛·帕吉奥蒂说:“人们已经习惯了佛罗伦萨这样的城市和地方,每个人都知道。但还有其他地区需要探索。这是一种不会破坏地方现实的正确旅游方式。”)”可知,她认为这种探索意大利不太知名地区的旅游方式是正确的,不会破坏这些地方的真实性,有助于保护这些地方的原汁原味。故选B。
【26题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第四段“Caterina Quaranta, from southern Italy, used the term “nostalgic” to describe riding the train. “The train reminds me of my youth and the things of the past, which were simpler. But now everything is fast, short-lived,” Quaranta said. (来自意大利南部的卡特琳娜·夸兰塔用“怀旧”一词来形容乘坐火车。夸兰塔说:“火车让我想起了我的青春和过去的事情,它们更简单。但现在一切都很快,很短暂。”)”可知,她用“怀旧的”来形容这次火车之旅,她提到火车让她想起了自己的青春和过去更简单的事情,所以她对这次在公园铁路上的经历感想是渴望过去的时光。故选B。
【27题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章最后一段““The train financially helps several small towns around here.” said Gino Toppi, 60, as he helped his wife with the food stand in the small station. (60岁的Gino Toppi在帮助妻子在小站摆摊时说:“这列火车在经济上帮助了附近的几个小镇。”。)”可知,火车在经济上帮助了这里的几个小镇, 这意味着火车通过吸引游客和支持当地的小生意来促进当地经济。故选A。
C
Over the past few centuries we have dug, chopped, burned, drilled, pumped, stripped, forged, flared, lit, launched, driven, and flown our way to adding 2.4 trillion metric tons of carbon dioxide to Earth’s atmosphere.
30. Why does the author mention some scientists and entrepreneurs in paragraph 3?
A. To show their ambitions of reusing carbon.
B. To suggest the possibility of controlling carbon.
C. To offer practical ways of emitting carbon.
D. To display a new evidence in scientific researches.
31. What is the best title for the text?
A. Another Possible Weapon to Fight Climate Change
B. Industrial Revolutions Spelling Disaster for Human
C. Extreme Climate Change Waiting to Be Urgently Eased
D. New Measures to Reduce Greenhouse-gas Emissions
B 29. A 30. B 31. A
根据第一段中“Over the past few centuries, we have dug, chopped, burned, drilled, pumped, stripped, forged, flared, lit, launched, driven, and flown our way to adding 2.4 trillion metric tons of carbon dioxide to Earth’s atmosphere.(在过去的几个世纪里,我们通过挖掘、切割、燃烧、钻探、抽水、剥离、锻造、燃烧、点燃、发射、驾驶和飞行等方式,向地球大气中排放了2.4万亿公吨的二氧化碳。)”和第二段中“She doesn’t have much time. Nor do the rest of us. The extreme weather and record-hot temperatures from climate change are already here — and virtually certain to get worse.(她时间不多了。我们其他人也没有。气候变化带来的极端天气和创纪录的高温已经到来,而且几乎肯定会变得更糟。)”可知,人类活动导致的碳排放增加促使人们尽快采取行动。故选B。
【29题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第二段中“the unearthing of massive amounts of subterranean (地下) carbon as fossil fuels, the lifeblood of modern civilization but now its bane as well(挖掘大量地下碳作为化石燃料,这是现代文明的命脉,但现在也是它的祸根)”可知, one of the most consequential acts (有重要意义的行为)是指化石燃料一方面驱动了现代科技文明的发展而另一方面又招致灾祸,打开了潘多拉魔盒(隐喻为灾难之源),故选A。
根据第三段中“Scientists and entrepreneurs like Aradóttir are embarking on ( 着手 ) ambitious — and sometimes controversial — projects to remove carbon dioxide from ambient air and lock it away.
故选A。
D

由文章第二段中“Gray says they can “produce 12 young every three weeks when conditions are good! (格雷说,“在条件适宜的时候,它们每三周就能产下12只幼崽!”)”可知,它们的高繁殖能力,由第三段中““They come in waves,” Karumba resident Jon Jensen told the ABC radio station in Brisbane. “They almost seem trained and organized. They’re in numbers, mate, and they swim around in the rivers like little puppy dogs.” (“它们是一波一波来的,”卡伦巴居民乔恩・延森告诉布里斯班的澳大利亚广播公司电台,“它们看起来几乎像是经过训练且组织有序的。数量可多了,老兄,而且它们就像小狗一样在河里游来游去。”)”表明它们具有群居特性。故选项B“Social & reproductive(群居性且繁殖能力强的)”最能描述Karumba的老鼠。故选B。
【33题详解】
细节理解题。由文章第四段中“Queensland’s topography, with a river system that twists its way to the northern coast, funnels the rodents toward the shore — and dead or alive, hordes of them arrive in Karumba, a fishing and port community on the Gulf of Carpentaria. Once they’ve arrived, there’s little anyone can do to curtail the plague. 故选A。
由文章第四段中“Once they’ve arrived, there’s little anyone can do to curtail the plague. Traps have been set up, he said, but in the face of such multitudes, the measure “really is a token gesture.”(一旦它们(老鼠)来了,几乎没人能阻止这场鼠灾。他说人们已经设置了捕鼠器,但面对如此庞大的鼠群,这项措施“真的只是a token gesture”)”可知,设置陷阱在大量老鼠面前起不到什么作用,这种措施只是象征性的。所以a token gesture意为“象征性的行动”,即“无效的方法”。C选项“An ineffective method (无效的方法)”符合题意。故选C。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。由文章最后一段“However, “as quickly as the rats irrupt or ’boom’ in numbers, so too do they decline or ‘bust,’” Gray said.

G 37. D 38. F 39. A 40. B
根据上文“You can get dozens of interior decoration ideas from countless magazines and TV programs. Some programs tend to show less costly interior decoration ideas.(你可以从无数的杂志和电视节目中得到几十个室内装饰的想法。有些节目倾向于展示成本较低的室内装饰理念)”可知,前文提到从杂志和电视节目中获取装饰想法,尤其是低成本的装饰,故本句承接前文,继续讨论获取装饰想法的途径。故D选项“另一个既有效又负担得起的选择是上网”符合语境,故选D。
【38题详解】
根据上文“If you are fond of a primitive or traditional style, warmer colors are the best for the room. These colors go with all kinds of cloth of old style and wooden furniture.(如果你喜欢原始或传统的风格,暖色调是最好的房间。这些颜色适合各种老式布料和木制家具)”可知,前文提到喜欢原始或传统风格时使用暖色调,本句与前文提到的暖色调相呼应,进一步解释了为什么这些颜色适合这种风格。故F选项“秋天的颜色很适合营造一种温暖、友好、愉快的氛围”符合语境,故选F。
【39题详解】
根据上文“If you like a modern style, use brighter colors instead of white and off-white. Home decoration of the style includes minimum disorder and a lot of free space and light. Leather furniture matches the room: white or black with contrasting cushion
根据后文“This often occurs anyway, especially if people give you furniture. If you wish to combine different pieces of furniture, you need to bridge the gap between them. This can be done easily with materials like throw pillows, wall hangings and carpets.(这种情况经常发生,特别是如果有人给你家具。如果你想把不同的家具组合在一起,你需要弥合它们之间的差距。这可以用抱枕、壁挂和地毯等材料轻松完成)”可知,本段主要说了把不同的家具组合在一起,即不同风格的混合。故B选项“把两种风格混在一起没有错”符合语境,故选B。

I’d like to provide some feedback on the recent experience of having my English essays corrected and reviewed using AI technology. When receiving my AI report, I was impressed with how the AI tool expedited the correction process. The instantaneous feedback was helpful because it helped me make necessary adjustments instantly and offered a detailed analysis of grammar and vocabulary.
Although I appreciate the convenience of the AI, I still value the human touch in essay review. Your personal insights and encouragement have always been a motivator for me. Perhaps combining AI efficiency with your expert judgment could be the optimal solution.

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Just at the critical moment, Ed jumped down from the top and gave me a helping hand.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Ed and I cheered for them while they were struggling to ride towards the top.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Just at the critical moment, Ed jumped down from the top and gave me a helping hand. With a strong grasp, he helped me regain my balance. My legs were still aching from the cramp, but Ed’s encouragement kept me going. “You’ve got here, Kev,” he said, pulling me back onto my bike. Slowly, I started pedaling again, using all my strength to overcome the pain. Inch by inch, I moved forward, determined to reach the top. As I made it, Ed gave me a high five with a big smile. Then we noticed the other riders approaching us very slowly.
Ed and I cheered for them while they were struggling to ride towards the top. We clapped and shouted words of encouragement, knowing they needed that extra push. It was tough, but everyone had stuck it out, and that was what mattered. One by one, our friends made it up the steep hill. When the last rider finally made it to the top, we all gathered together, breathless but happy. Laughing, we made our way to Dairy Queen for burgers and Becker’s for donuts, celebrating not just our victory, but the teamwork and determination that had carried us through.
