For a moment, the world 31 , and there were just Daniel and me. He was saying something, but tears misted my eyes, and I couldn’t understand what he was saying. It was on her 14th birthday that her first book, In the Forest of the Night, was accepted for publication. It was a huge success gaining the attention of millions of young readers. At 16, her second novel, Demon in My View, also reached the bookstores. Several books later, the teenage author still works away in her room, surrounded by shelves full of dark tales about vampires (吸血鬼) and witches (女巫). Amelia Atwater-Rhodes is widely seen as America’s finest teen writer and was named one of Teen People’s “20 Teens Who Will Change the World”.
Born in 1984, she began making up stories when she was about three years old. “I never stopped and said, ‘I want to write’,” Amelia remembers. “I loved stories and created stories before I was old enough to know how to write them down.”
In her family, reading was basic and fun. “My parents encouraged me to read — and to read anything I wanted, so long as I was reading,” she said. “They never limited what I read. Later, when I started writing, they never criticized what I did or said I was ‘too young’. They never said it was impossible for me to achieve what I have.”
In her short but successful career, Amelia has tried different styles. But vampires were the first characters to really come alive in her work. From them she has developed a whole world, one which she always enjoys learning more about.
As a published teen writer, Amelia’s advice to other teens who dream of being author s is: just do it! “I believe anything is possible. Don’t give up your dreams just because you fear failure. Getting a book published is difficult, but if I can do it, others can too.”

There’s a lot being said out there about the state of women in this country. The gender gap still exists when it comes to salary, confidence, happiness, and the number of women in the C-suite and science. Women aren’t as happy as they were in the 1970s, and their happiness relative to that of men has taken a nosedive (暴跌).
But it’s not all doom and gloom (无望). A recent study shows there’s one career path in which women’s happiness is greater than men’s: entrepreneurship. One out of every 10 women in the U.S. today is starting or running her own business. More than a third of those women want to expand their business beyond five employees. Women with established businesses ranked their happiness nearly three times as high as women who are not entrepreneurs.
Women are most likely to run or start a business between the ages of 35 and 44 — a period in which moms are more likely to be taking care of young kids at home. The flexibility of entrepreneurship may very well attract such women during this busy time in their lives. “Our research found that the benefits of entrepreneurship are beyond economic and social value,” professor Donna Kelley and the lead author of the report said. “Clearly, entrepreneurship provides women with a most satisfying career choice.”
The happiness doesn’t translate for women just getting started with their business, who report lower levels of happiness than women working for an employer, though still slightly higher levels than men in the same position as them. The reason for this may very well be the gender confidence gap. As women’s businesses mature and become more successful, their levels of happiness surge. “Confidence is a belief in one’s ability to succeed, a belief that stimulates action. In turn, taking action improves one’s belief in one’s ability to succeed.” they write.
And the links between confidence and happiness are plentiful. The happiness-success link exists not only because success makes people happy, but also because positive emotion creates success. For women, entrepreneurial success may be the key to a happy career. And as more women start and run their own businesses, the world may just be a happier place.
46.It can be known that women’s happiness levels ________.
A.are the same as those of five decades ago.
B.are much lower than those of five decades ago.
C.are much higher than those of five years ago.
D.are a little lower than those of five years ago.
47.Who are much happier according to the text?
A.Male bosses. B.Jobless females. C.Female bosses. D.Male employees.
48.What is Donna Kelley’s attitude to woman entrepreneurship?
A.Optimistic. B.Doubtful. C.Objective. D.Negative.
49.What does the underlined word “surge” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Increase. B.Disappear. C.Decrease. D.Remain.

A.There are secrets to female entrepreneurial success.
B.The close happiness-success connection and its active effect on women.
C.More women will start to run their own business in the future.
D.There is a close connection between happiness and success.
D
History is full of cases where dreams have been a pathway to creativity and discovery. A striking example is provided by Dr. Otto Loewi, a pharmacologist and winner of a Nobel Prize. Loewi had spent years studying the chemical transmission of nerve impulses (脉搏). A great breakthrough in his research came when he dreamed of an experiment three nights in a row. The first two nights he woke up and wrote down the experiment quickly and untidily on paper. But the next morning, he couldn’t tell what the notes meant. On the third night, he got up after having the dream. This time, instead of making notes he went straight to his laboratory and performed the important experiment. Loewi later said that if the experiment had occurred to him while awake he would have rejected it.
Loewi’s experiment gives some insight into using dreams to produce creative solutions. Nervous feelings are reduced while you are dreaming, which may be especially useful in solving problems that require a fresh point of view.
Being able to take advantage of dreams for solving is improved if you “set” yourself before retiring. Before you go to bed, try to think intently about a problem you wish to solve. Bury yourself in the problem by stating it clearly and reviewing all relevant information. Then use the suggestions listed in the previous section to catch your dreams. Although this method is not guaranteed to produce a novel solution or a new insight, it is certain to be an adventure. About half of a group of college students using the method for a week recalled a dream that helped them solve a personal problem.
51.The main idea of this passage is that ________.
A.very little is really known about the meaning of dreams
B.it is possible to “catch” one’s dreams by planning before going to sleep
C.dreams can be useful in producing creative solutions to one’s problems
D.Loewi’s experiment helped in the study of transmission of nerve impulses
52.The first paragraph is mainly organized by ________.
A.classifying types of experiments
B.summarizing the work of one researcher
C.comparing and exploring historical cases
D.telling in time order about one man’s research
53.If Loewi had thought of the experiment while awake, he would have ________.
A.taken it seriously B.thought it was a ridiculous idea
C.tested it D.doubted it
54.The author probably thinks that ________.
A.dreaming is a better way than taking notes in scientific research
B.if we want to be creative, we must make use of our dreams
C.nervous feelings may stop someone thinking of useful ideas
D.dreaming is surely a good way to produce a new solution.
55.The underlined word “retiring” in the third paragraph most probably means ________.
A.going to sleep B.giving up your job C.having a break D.thinking of a solution
When I think of the hardest moments of my life, ironically many have turned out to be blessings. The most severe one was being pretty much kicked out of my. PhD program at the University of Georgia in 2016.
The program in Georgia turned out not to be the right fit for me despite my best efforts. The whole year was riddled with exhaustion, insecurity, fear, and exclusion. I was in therapy myself for most of the year to cope, and the only thing that made it tolerable was a lot of support from my family and friends.
I was utterly devastated when I went back home; it felt like my career was over. Fast forward to today, however, and I can see that getting driven out of the Georgia program was one of the best things that ever happened to me. In 2017, when I transferred to a doctoral program in San Diego, I began to thrive and now my business is doing exceptionally well. I am deeply grateful I studied in San Diego and happy that I didn’t stay in Georgia. It was great that I was driven out! As the saying goes, “What seems like good or bad news now can turn out to be the opposite in the future.”
Ironically, the research and writing training from the University of Georgia significantly helped me develop my academic, professional, and personal writing. I worked hard in Georgia and it paid off: The learning and growth I experienced were incomparable.
As my personal example demonstrates, life is a total rollercoaster. Every now and then you are able to discover a new high, a ceiling-breaking moment, whereas in other moments you may feel like you’re falling deeper and deeper into hell. While these experiences can be incredibly tough, they present us with valuable opportunities to trust life and cultivate personal growth and learning.
56.What was the author’s most severe moment of his life?(No more than 8 words)
57.What’s the meaning of the underlined phrase in paragraph 2? (No more than 3 words)
58.What message does the author want to convey with his personal experience in the 3rd paragraph? (No more than 15 words)
59.Why did the author thank the University of Georgia? (No more than 10 words)
60.What will you do if you are in a dark moment? Please explain. (No more than 20 words)

2. 演讲内容及要求(探讨人工智能如何影响日常生活,人工智能的实际好处和潜在挑战;限时5分钟;鼓励原创);

2.I’m writing to express my gratitude for your ________ in solving the problem together with the colleagues.
A.rejection B.cooperation C.dilemma D.affection
cooperation with sb. in doing sth.

A.must B.can C.will D.should
A.must必须;B. can能够;C.will将会;D.should应该,竟然。

It was on her 14th birthday that her first book, In the Forest of the Night, was accepted for publication. It was a huge success gaining the attention of millions of young readers.

“Our research found that the benefits of entrepreneurship are beyond economic and social value,”professor Donna Kelley and the lead author of the report said.
In turn, taking action improves one’s belief in one’s ability to succeed.”they write.
C.Decrease. D.Remain.
50.What does the last paragraph mainly tell us?
A.There are secrets to female entrepreneurial success.
B.The close happiness-success connection and its active effect on women.
C.More women will start to run their own business in the future.
D.There is a close connection between happiness and success.
46.B 47.C 48.A 49.A 50.B

根据第二段第二句“A recent study shows there’s one career path in which women’s happiness is greater than men’s: entrepreneurship.”(最近的一项研究表明,有一种职业道路上女性的幸福感要高于男性:创业。)及最后两句“More than a third of those women want to expand their business beyond five employees.Women with established businesses ranked their happiness nearly three times as high as women who are not entrepreneurs.”(其中超过三分之一的女性希望将业务扩大到5名员工以上。
根据第三段最后两句““Our research found that the benefits of entrepreneurship are beyond economic and social value,”professor Donna Kelley and the lead author of the report said. “Clearly, entrepreneurship provides women with a most satisfying career choice.””(该报告的主要作者Donna Kelley教授说:“我们的研究发现,创业的好处超出了经济和社会价值。”“显然,创业为女性提供了一个最令人满意的职业选择。”)可知,Donna Kelley认为创业对女性有极大的好处,故她对女性创业持乐观的态度。故选A项。

根据最后一段“And the links between confidence and happiness are plentiful. The happiness-success link exists not only because success makes people happy, but also because positive emotion creates success. For women, entrepreneurial success may be the key to a happy career.

【答案】51.C 52.D 53.B 54.C 55.A
根据文章第一段“History is full of cases where dreams have been a pathway to creativity and discovery.(历史上有很多例子表明,梦是通向创造力和发现的途径。)”
根据文章第一段“The first two nights”、“the next morning”和“On the third night”可知,本段以时间顺序为线索,详细介绍了Dr.
根据文章第一段“Loewi later said that if the experiment had occurred to him while awake he would have rejected it.(洛伊后来说,如果他在醒着的时候想到这个实验,他会拒绝的。)”
根据文章第二段“Nervous feelings are reduced while you are dreaming, which may be especially useful in solving problems that require a fresh point of view.( 当你做梦时,紧张的感觉会减少,这在解决需要新鲜观点的问题时可能特别有用。)”
根据下文“Before you go to bed, try to think intently about a problem you wish to solve.(在你上床睡觉之前,试着专注地思考一个你想要解决的问题。)” 故选A。
56.His almost being kicked out of PhD program
57.be full of
58.What seems like bad news now can turn out to be good in the future
59.The research and writing training helped him professionally and academically
60.I will seek support and stay positive, believing that the difficulties are temporary and trying to find a solution.
根据文章第一段“When I think of the hardest moments of my life, ironically many have turned out to be blessings. The most severe one was being pretty much kicked out of my. PhD program at the University of Georgia in 2016. (当我回想起生命中最艰难的时刻时,具有讽刺意味的是,许多事情最后都变成了我的祝福。最严重的一次是我几乎被踢出2016年在乔治亚大学的博士项目。)”可知,作者一生中最艰难的时刻是在2016年作者差点被踢出在乔治亚大学的博士项目。故答案为His almost being kicked out of PhD program。
根据划线词组下一句“I was in therapy myself for most of the year to cope, and the only thing that made it tolerable was a lot of support from my family and friends. (我大部分时间都在接受治疗来应对这种压力,而唯一让我能够忍受这一切的是来自家人和朋友的巨大支持。)”可知,由于课程不适合作者,作者整整一年都充满了疲倦、不安全、恐惧和排斥。由此可知,划线词组的意思和“充满”相似。故答案为be full of。
根据第三段内容“I was utterly devastated when I went back home; it felt like my career was over. As the saying goes, “What seems like good or bad news now can turn out to be the opposite in the future.” What seems like bad news now can turn out to be good in the future。
根据文章第四题“Ironically, the research and writing training from the University of Georgia significantly helped me develop my academic, professional, and personal writing. I worked hard in Georgia and it paid off: The learning and growth I experienced were incomparable. (具有讽刺意味的是,乔治亚大学的研究和写作训练对我的学术、专业和个人写作都有很大的帮助。我在乔治亚努力学习,并得到了回报:我经历的学习和成长是无与伦比的。)”可知,作者感谢乔治亚大学是因为那里的研究和写作训练对他的学术、专业和个人写作能力发展有重要帮助。故答案为The research and writing training helped him professionally and academically.
I will seek support and stay positive, believing that the difficulties are temporary and trying to find a solution.
