The 22-year-old started the “speedy tourism” in March after she was attracted by some experiences of some travel bloggers. “Confined (限制) to the school education for three years, I’m hungry to take trips in my free time,” said Yu. “Now it’s time! Judy was about to turn 7 years old when her mom suggested a new way to celebrate her birthday. “What would you think about donating your gifts to a children’s hospital?” her mom said.
At first, Judy wasn’t sure. Then she gave it some thought. “It can be a good idea.” Judy told TIME for Kids. “I already had everything I needed, and these kids that were going through things at the hospital— they needed it more than I did.”
Now a freshman in high school, Judy continues to bring joy to kids and teens being treated for serious illnesses. In December 2023, it was her 9th year to donate her birthday gifts to the children’s hospital in San Antonio, Fexas.
“Just to see their little faces when she hands them the gifts, that’s always been our favorite part,” says Judy’s mom, Sondra Perez. “Seeing the kids’ reactions just touches our heart.”
Kids, 10 and older are more often hospitalized for mental health problems. Whatever the patient’s age, a hospital stay can be stressful. Judy’s effort is a bright light during a difficult time.
Along with an invitation to Judy’s party, her friends get a list of gift ideas for kids at the hospital. For the littlest patients, gifts might include building blocks or toy trains. “And for the teenagers, my age or older,” Judy says, “it might be nail polish or books.”
After the first round of donations, Judy shares the list with family, coaches, and teammates. The number of donations “grows every year,” she says, but she doesn’t keep an exact count. Instead, she judges by sight. “We measure how much of the carpet it covers in our living room,” Judy says. “Last year, it covered the whole carpet (地毯).”
Then it’s time to share the gifts with kids at the hospital. “Seeing other people’s happiness—— that’s all that matters to me,” Judy says.
Natalie Gutierrez works in the public relations office at the children’s hospital. She has seen firsthand the influence of Judy’s gift-giving. “She puts smiles on the faces of these little patients in our hospital and on our nurses and doctors.” Gutierrez says. “They are all amazed at how generous she was at such a young age.”
Judy’s efforts to help kids in the hospital have encouraged others to follow in her footsteps. Friends have collected and donated gifts for their birthdays too. And Judy says her 11-year-old twin sister helps animals by donating to the Humane Society.
“Giving to others, it’s just a good feeling to have at the end of the day,” Judy says. “I want to keep doing this as long as I can.”
31.How many times has she donated her gifts to the children’s hospital before 2024?

You may know that bees make delicious honey. But did you know that they keep us all alive?
Every year on the twentieth of May, it’s World Bee Day. It’s a day to thank bees for all they do. Without bees, we wouldn’t have any food! When bees fly from plant to plant, they carry pollen(携带花粉). The pollen makes new plants grow. It is said that three-fourths of the world’s flowering plants and about 35 percent of the world’s food crops depend on bees and other animals to grow. Bees not only help flowers grow. They also help fruit and vegetables grow.
It’s also a day to learn more about the problems bees are facing. Loss of natural habitat(栖息地), getting sick from chemicals(化学物质) used on crops, and higher temperatures with climate change are making the number of bees drop, said the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
People are now looking to technology to help save the bees. One example is the robotic bee project called RoboRoyale, said Horizon magazine. The European Commission funds(投资) it. The project makes robot bees to help feed and look after the queen bee. This will get the queen bee to lay more eggs and make more bees.

The good story in my heart
A good story can travel in time and space. During the three years of junior high school, I have read lots of stories. Now I want to tell you something about the good story in my heart—the story of Mencius’ Mother Moving Three Times.
When Mencius was a little boy, he learned how to mourn in the place where they lived at first. His mother thought it was not good for his study, so she decided to move. Then, they moved to a place next to a market, and Mencius began to learn the ways of business people. His mother didn’t want him to be a businessman, so they moved again. Finally, they moved into a house near a school. Mencius began to learn knowledge. His mother thought this was right place for him to grow up.
I think it is an educational and meaningful story. Through this story I know the importance of the environment. It can make a big difference to us.
