This is a pizza shop in Ohio. It got a big order last week. A lady called and ordered 16 pizzas to be picked up the next day. And the next day, she called right before the order was to be ready. But then she never showed up. The 16 pizzas had to be thrown away. The small shop had a big loss.
“I can’t see why someone would do that to anybody, let alone (更别说) a small shop,” said Rocky Keefer, the manager.
Fast forward to this week, the shop got another call for a big order. It was a man. He said he wanted to pay for those 16 pizzas that were never picked up.
“I didn’t believe it at first. I was thinking, ‘Is someone trying to do it again? ‘ He said he wanted to pay on the phone, so then I knew it was not a joke. It was like an angel calling and saying, ‘I am going to help you out’,” Keefer said.
The caller was Travis Truesdell. When he heard about what happened on the Internet, he wanted to help. So he paid $112 for the 16 pizzas. He even bought two more pizzas.
Truesdell said he had been helped during hard times. And he felt he needed to lend a hand. “Someone helped me out before. I was happy to be in a place to pay it back,” Truesdell said.
This story is a great example of the power of reaching out when you can.
“Life is too short, and why not do something good?” Truesdell said. Truesdell’s kindness didn’t end with the order. He also left a big tip for all the workers of the restaurant.

“If I could tell my 11-year-old self something,” says Tiera Fletcher, “I would tell myself not to give up and to focus on the dream at hand.” When she was 11, Fletcher decided that she wanted to become a rocket scientist. Now, years later, she’s part of the team that helped to build NASA’s Space Launch System, which was used to launch the Artemis I mission (任务) .
Fletcher was only six years old when she showed an interest in math. “I always loved to solve problems and find an answer,” she says. Her mom also enjoyed math, and she would encourage Fletcher by giving her activities to do, like adding up the costs of their food shopping.
Fletcher also learnt how to build things and about the importance of problem-solving from her dad, who was a construction (建筑) worker. A turning point for Fletcher was when she took part in an engineering program at the age of 11.

“Life is too short, and why not do something good?” Truesdell said. Truesdell’s kindness didn’t end with the order. He also left a big tip for all the workers of the restaurant.

Fletcher was only six years old when she showed an interest in math. “I always loved to solve problems and find an answer,” she says. Her mom also enjoyed math, and she would encourage Fletcher by giving her activities to do, like adding up the costs of their food shopping.
