Passage 1
(2024·湖南娄底·一模)
Months ago, at an exhibition (展览会) in the UK, we saw some things about what was science in 1923. It gave us the idea for the question: What will science be in 2123? Then we asked some experts for their ideas.
Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock, space scientist:
I think people in 2123 will work hard to develop technology for interstellar (星际的) travel. If successful, we humans could get to our next-door star system Alpha Centauri not in 76,000 years but in just 20 years. It would change humans’ understanding of the universe (宇宙). And in 100 years, people may be able to answer the question “Are we alone in the universe?”
Professor Steve Brusatte at University of Edinburgh:
I think in 100 years, people will see big improvements on medical science. Well, of course, doctors in 2123 will still use many of the medicines created in the 2020s. And I think that if there is an exhibition (展览) of today’s things in 2123, it will have some masks (防护面具) we used during the COVID-19 pandemic (新冠疫情).
Professor Andrea Sella at University College London:
I think in the future, people will look back on the small steps of quantum (量子) computers and laugh at our worry about AI (人工智能). At the same time, they may have to stand more terrible weather. They will wonder why we didn’t act to stop the world from warming by 4℃—5℃.

Passage 3
(23-24九年级上·重庆九龙坡·期末)“Welcome to our new ‘classroom’!” said Chen Dong, one of the three astronauts of the Shenzhou XIV mission.
They were giving a science class 400 kilometers above Earth on Oct 12. It was the third space class from the Tiangong space station, but the first one from the Wentian lab module (实验舱) since its launch in July. The former two classes were held in the Tianhe core module (核心舱).
What does the new “classroom” look like? Chen, together with Liu Yang and Cai Xuzhe, showed us around. “The beds in the Tianhe module are placed horizontally (横着), while our beds are kept upright,” said Liu. That means astronauts in the Wentian lab module need to sleep standing up! But as Liu explained, people don’t feel any difference because there’s no gravity (重力) in space. Astronauts can even sleep on the ceiling (天花板) or upside down!
The astronauts also showed their “space farm”, where lettuce, wheat (小麦), thale cress (拟南芥) and rice are grown. “Take a picture!” “Send the picture!” Through a voice-controlled camera, Chen already sent a picture of the thale cress to scientists on Earth. Then he used scissors to cut a sample (样本). “I’ll put it into a fridge at -80℃ and later give it to scientists on Earth,” said Chen. Scientists will study how the environment of space affects the growth of plants.
“Can you see the water drops coming from the leaves? This is called ‘guttation’ (植物吐水现象),” said Liu, holding the well-grown rice. In space, the water drops are much bigger than those on Earth. So people can clearly see the guttation.

Passage 5
(24-25九年级上·江苏南京·期末)“Your personality has three different layers (层),” says Robyn Fivush, a psychologist at Emory University.
First, there are your most basic personality traits (特征), including how open you are to new experiences, and whether you like to be with other people or prefer to be alone, and how stressed out you get in challenging situations. Your basic traits are pretty obvious (明显的) even when you’re a baby. “Some babies are a little bit fussier or a little bit more active or a little bit more smiley. Those can develop into more stable personality traits,” Fivush says. “They stay pretty much the same as you grow up.”
The next layer of your personality is your experiences. If your family is loving and responsive when you’re a baby, that teaches you “the world is a safe and trusting place, I’m going to be OK, my needs are going to be met, and if anything bad happens, I have people to take care of me,” Fivush says. That feeling of trust and security lasts for your whole life, and it tends to make you more confident and capable of dealing with difficulties when you are an adult.
“The third layer is the stories you tell about yourself,” Fivush says. “We all tell stories about our lives, both to ourselves and to other people. Those stories give meaning to your experiences. They can be stories about your own life—like how much you loved your science teacher, what a great time you had when she helped you with your science fair project, and how that made you want to be a scientist. But your family’s stories are equally important.” Knowing about how your parents met, or what your grandmother’s childhood was like, helps you see where you come from. And talking with your family about both the happy and sad times you’ve experienced can help you understand those events more clearly and learn different ways to deal with challenges. Family stories don’t just teach you who you are—they help you figure out who you want to be.
1. According to the passage, which of the following is one of a person’s most basic personality traits?
A.Being open to new experiences.
B.Growing up in a wealthy family.
C.Sharing family stories with teachers.
D.Understanding events in an easy way.
2. How do our basic personality traits develop according to Robyn Fivush?
A.They change completely as we grow up.
B.They are influenced only by our experiences.
C.They stay almost the same from when we are babies.
D.They are formed by the stories we tell about ourselves.
3. What will a man most probably be like if he grows up in a loving family?
A.Confident. B.Generous. C.Honest. D.Helpful.
4. Why are family stories important?
A.Because they can make your dream come true.
B.Because they can make you feel happy and relaxed.
C.Because they can help you understand who you want to be.
D.Because they can help you deal with any difficulties you meet.
【答案】1. A 2. C 3. A 4. C

Passage 7
(24-25九年级上·广东广州·期末)As Lia walked home from school, she saw images of symmetry (对称) all around her: in the faces of people, in the buildings, and even in the cars. All that month, Lia’s class had been studying different forms of symmetry, and Lia loved the topic of symmetry so much. They’d observed so many things! Now came their final science homework: to find the most beautiful example of symmetry and give a report to the class on it.
“What could be the most beautiful example of symmetry?” Lia thought hard. Last year, she’d got a microscope for her birthday. Now she realized that she could use it to study symmetry. She set up her “lab” in the shed (棚屋). She wished to find the answer. Lia spent hours looking at leaves, rocks, and drops of water. However, none of them seemed to be truly beautiful.
That night, she stayed in the shed until her father called her inside. “Come on, Lia. It’s getting cold outside. The weather forecast says it’s going to snow.” Lia’s heart sank (下沉). Snow meant winter was on its way. The cold weather would mean fewer things to observe under the microscope. In this town, snow would often cover the whole area. And she didn’t have much time left.
Just then, the shed door was blown open by a strong wind. Suddenly, she caught sight of a single snowflake that had blown into the shed and onto the stage of her microscope. Lia looked through the eyepiece, and to her great surprise she saw the most beautiful example of symmetry she could ever have imagined. “A snowflake! Why didn’t I think of that before?” She was so excited.
She peered through the microscope again, to take a closer look. However, there was nothing! The snowflake had disappeared, melted, taking all of its beauty with it.
“No! Wait!” cried Lia. She had to take the snowflake to class, but how? It would melt before she could even get on the bus! Then she had an idea.
Lia ran to the house and got her camera. Within minutes, she’d managed to attach a snowflake to the microscope. She carefully placed another one on the microscope’s stage and took a lot of beautiful pictures. Each snowflake was different, symmetrical, and so beautiful!
That term, Lia, the girl whose snowflake photos were the talk of the school, was given a nickname by her friends and teachers. From then on, they called her Snowflake Lia.

Passage 9
(24-25九年级上·重庆沙坪坝·期末)①Can you imagine a doctor performing a surgery (手术) on a patient thousands of kilometers away? It seems to only happen in science fiction. However, a recent surgery done by doctors in Chengdu has shown the possibility in real life. Using a robotic technology, the doctors saved a patient in Lhasa (拉萨). With the development of AI-powered remote (远程的) surgery, modern healthcare has changed in a big way.
②AI played an important part in this surgery. By studying tons of medical data (数据), AI helps doctors plan the surgery, predict problems that could happen, and find the solutions.
③During the surgery, AI also tells the doctors the patient’s necessary information, like heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen levels. If anything of the patient goes wrong, it can warn the medical team and suggest changes to the surgery plan.
④Another key role in this surgery was supercomputing technology. Remote surgeries need fast data transmission (传送), as even small delays (延迟) can be dangerous. Supercomputing can quickly deal with a lot of data, making sure that the surgery pictures are clear and that the doctors’ orders are followed at once. The two-way network delay in this surgery was only 40 milliseconds, thanks to powerful supercomputers.
⑤The robot used in this surgery does an excellent job. It has one arm and one hole, which makes the cut smaller, making less pain and speeding up the process for the patient to get better. It also increases the chances of a successful surgery and lowers the risk of accidents.
⑥This kind of surgery is a huge excitement, especially for people in remote areas. It means that patients don’t have to travel far for good medical care, saving time and being treated in time.
⑦And for places with fewer doctors, this kind of surgery also brings good news as doctors from bigger cities can help with surgeries and train local doctors. This kind of surgery is important for improving healthcare everywhere.

According to Science Focus Magazine, there are studies that show a relationship between the colors of the clothes we wear and how we act and feel. One study found that wearing red can bring better physical performance. ________ One more study showed that wearing green can help people relax because it is the color of nature. Yellow, the color of summer and warmth, can bring people happiness. But there are some problems with these studies, as people from different cultures have different ideas about dressing and colors.

Passage 11
(23-24九年级上·湖北随州·期末)“Without music, life would be a mistake,” famous German philosopher (哲学家) Friedrich Nietzsche said over a century ago. Music is a big part of our lives. But in recent years, some US schools have cut music classes to control budgets (预算).
For example, Chicago public schools fired (解雇) over 1,000 teachers. And among them, 10 percent of the teachers taught music, according to The Washington Times. In fact, this is not just a problem in the US. In other countries, such as China and the UK, music classes are not thought to be as important as the ones like science, Maths and history. That’s partly because music is not seen as a very important life skill, and it isn’t tested. Many students are busy with schoolwork, so parents and students choose to focus on subjects that are tested more often.
However, learning music is beneficial in many ways.
When playing music, you need different abilities to work together. It is not as simple as it looks. For example, when playing the piano, people see music notes and decode (解码) them in their brains. They also use their fingers to make sounds. You need to deal with all these things at the same time.
Music has a special connect ion with science as well. You can see that many scientists are good at playing music: Einstein played the violin, and German physicist Max Planck was talented in playing the piano.
根据语篇内容,选择最佳选项。
1. Why do some schools in the US cut music classes?

Walking on the street, you might hear some people speaking Chinese aloud. Turning to the right, you see a Sichuan-style restaurant full of foreigners. After walking into a store, you see that Huawei smartphones are on sale. But you’re not in China—you’re in Manchester in Britain. In fact, you might see similar things in many other cities. Chinese products have been going all over the world.
Chinese food has been enjoyed in Western countries for a long time. To meet local people’s tastes, Chinese restaurants have made some changes to the dishes. “One example is the meat,” said Yin Hang, a Chinese student who is studying in Australia. “We like to eat meat with the bone (骨头) in, but people here don’t. More people trust Chinese brands. “Made in China” becomes cool. “They are beautiful and offer something special that American phones don’t have,” an article on CNN once said about Chinese smartphones.

The video may be your better choice. We are now living in a modern world. With the development of science and technology, almost everything in our life becomes smart. These years, watching videos online is getting more and more popular. You can see many people watching short videos on the bus or the subway in order to relax after a day’s work. However, the number of people reading words is getting smaller. some people are afraid that videos will one day take the place of words. But will it really happen?

Passage 15
(24-25九年级上·江苏泰州·期末)We decided not to tell the kids. Marla knew that once our three daughters understood that their mother had been given 1,000 days to live, they’d start counting.
They would not be able to enjoy school, friends, their teams, or birthday parties. They’d be watching too closely how she looked, moved, acted, ate, or didn’t. Marla wanted her daughters to stay children: happy, relaxed, and confident that tomorrow would look like yesterday.
In 2009, Marla’s doctor called to tell her that she had early-stage cancer. After several medical operations, she needed eight rounds of chemotherapy (化疗) to clear the cancer found in her body.
Our kids were 8, 9, and 11 at the time, and they understood that their mother was under treatment, but we never told them the news we soon learned from hospital: Marla had the most serious cancer cell, and she had little chance to stay alive. Her doctor directly told her, “Go to live your next 1,000 days in the best way you know how.”
Though she was badly ill, Marla went on running long distances, for her own mental (心理的) fitness, and more importantly, so her kids would see her strong. I knew these miles were a wonder. Marla survived a little more than 3,500 days instead of 1,000. In her lifetime, she celebrated 25 anniversaries (周年纪念日), 57 children’s birthdays, three college acceptances, and two high-school graduations. But the next numbers make me sad: Zero college graduations. Zero weddings. Zero grandchildren.
Marla said to me at the hospital, “No glory (辉煌的) days for us. We almost had the kids out of the house, and now you’re alone. I’m so sorry.” I replied, “Sorry about what? You lived life to the fullest and made life worth living. I admired your power and courage. You already outran science. Thank you for taking me on your magic journey. Rest easy, my one and only girlfriend.”
1. If the children were told about Marla’s illness, they would ________.
A.remain active B.study harder C.stay out with friends D.live with worries
2. How did Marla face her illness?
A.She continued sports activities. B.She accepted it angrily.
C.She avoided social life. D.She refused medical treatment.
3. What do the numbers show in Paragraph 5?
A.Their valuable memories. B.Seriousness of her illness.
C.A mixed feeling of joy and sadness. D.Importance of family celebrations.
4. What does the underlined word “outran” mean in the last paragraph?

A.worse B.better C.the same
4. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A.What was life like in 1923?
B.What will science be in 2123?
C.What medicines will be used in the 2020s?
Passage 2
(2024·内蒙古鄂尔多斯·二模)To prepare for summer break and make some money, I got a part-time job.
After a short interview, I was hired by Sub Zero Nitrogen (氮气) Ice Cream. Unlike other stores that would pre-freeze their ice cream in freezers, we would create the ice cream right in front of people’s eyes using liquid (液态的) nitrogen.
Liquid nitrogen is not just freezing cold—it’s -196 °C! It takes almost all of the heat out of liquid cream in just a few seconds. I had not expected science to have such a big influence on my daily life, but I was glad that I understood this way of food processing.
Working in the ice cream store brought about new challenges, such as making ice cream based on customers’ requirements. This seemed difficult for me at first, but I made it through. Better yet, I proved to be a natural (有天赋的人) at talking to customers. I met many interesting people and also became confident about my social skills.
I am glad to have been a part of the Sub Zero team.

“We hope in the near future, we can harvest (收获) the food grown on our own,” said Chen. “Maybe one day, we can harvest food on the other planets like moon or even Mars!”
1. Where was the third space class held?

Passage 4
(2024·山东临沂·二模)Sunscreen (防晒霜) protects our skin from sunburn. But do you know that it is harmful to coral (珊瑚) living in the ocean?
Some chemicals in sunscreen, such as benzophenone (二苯甲酮), can kill coral. Every year, about 4,000 to 6,000 tons of sunscreen will flow into coral areas, according to the US National Park Service.
About four years ago, Zhang Baoxin, who studied at Guangdong Experimental High School, read about this and decided to make an environmentally friendly sunscreen to protect the environment of the sea.
Zhang read lots of things about it and then put forward a new formula (配方). She mixed natural plant oils with safe and commonly used sunscreen ingredients.
She tested about 10 kinds of plant oils and after trying about 20 formulas, Zhang found a jojoba oil formula that is effective, cheap and easy to make.
Zhang wrote a paper to explain her findings. The project made Zhang a nominee (候选人) of the Stockholm Junior Water Prize, an award to celebrate teenagers who help solve major water challenges. She was the only nominee from the Chinese mainland in 2020.
“With my formula, anyone can make sunscreen at home. You just need a blender to mix the oil and the powder,” she said.
