Binge-watching (追剧) your favorite TV series is bad for your brain. Dr. Randall Wright’ based in Texas, said the need to watch episode (集) after episode has a similar influence on the brain to gambling (赌博). What’s more, it often leads to social loneliness, snacking on junk food and a shortage of exercise and sleep, which, over time, is bad for the brain.
When you let auto play start the next episode, you can find out what happens next and your brain receives good feedback, Dr. Wright wrote in an article. This right-away satisfaction is similar to gambling where even after a win, you are not satisfied and want to continue playing. With binge-watching, you are not satisfied with stopping after episode five and want to continue watching. This cycle coupled with the snacking and the long time sitting can lead to unhealthy changes in your brain and body over time.
Dr. Wright said, “Binge-watching itself is not bad. It becomes problematic when you are watching a third, fourth or fifth episode instead of doing healthy activities.” But he said it is possible to avoid the bad influence of binge-watching with four tips, including staying away from salty, fatty, calorific foods, exercising before a binge-watching, setting an alarm for sleep and balancing TV viewing with socializing.
If you add these tips to your binge-watching practice, you can create lasting healthy habits and still enjoy the now-and-then binge-watching time without hurting your brain.
4. What might “it” in paragraph 1 refer to?
A. Gambling. B. Binge-watching. C. TV series. D. Brain.
5. In what way is binge-watching like gambling?
A. The long time sitting.
B. The changes of feeling.
C. The snacking on junk food.
D. The immediate satisfaction.
6. What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. Do’s and don’ts of binge-watching.
B. The tips on how to develop a health y lifestyle.
C. The ways to keep away from binge-watching.
D. The reasons why binge-watching is problematic.
7. What may be the best title of the passage?
A. Binge-watching: The Result of Addiction
B. Binge-watching: A Must of A Better Life
C. Binge-watching: A Killer of Your Brain
D. Binge-watching: Gradual Harm on Your Health
B 5. D 6. A 7. C

Randall Wright’ based in Texas, said the need to watch episode (集) after episode has a similar influence on the brain to gambling (赌博). What’s more, it often leads to social loneliness, snacking on junk food and a shortage of exercise and sleep, which, over time, is bad for the brain. (德克萨斯州的兰德尔·赖特博士说,一集接一集地看电视对大脑的影响与赌博相似。更重要的是,它经常导致社交孤独,吃垃圾食品,缺乏锻炼和睡眠,随着时间的推移,这对大脑有害。)”可知,德克萨斯州的兰德尔·赖特博士说,一集接一集地看电视对大脑的影响类似于赌博。后文紧接着说它经常导致社交孤单感等不良影响,所以it指的是追剧。A.
由第二段中的“This right-away satisfaction is similar to gambling where even after a win, you are not satisfied and want to continue playing. (这种即时的满足感类似于赌博,即使在赢了之后,你也不满意,想继续玩下去。)”可知,追剧获得的即刻满足感类似于赌博获得的快感。故选D项。
【6题详解】
主旨大意题。由第三段“Dr. (赖特博士说:“刷剧本身并不坏。当你看第三集、第四集或第五集而不是做健康的活动时,就会出现问题。”但他表示,有四个建议可以避免刷剧的不良影响,包括远离高盐、高脂肪和高热量的食物,刷剧前锻炼身体,设置睡眠闹钟,平衡看电视和社交活动。)”可知,本段主要讲述了Dr. Wright就如何避免追剧的不良影响提出的建议,与A选项“Do’s and don’ts of binge-watching. (追剧的注意事项。)”吻合。故选A项。
通读全文,尤其是文章第一段“Binge-watching (追剧) your favorite TV series is bad for your brain. (追你最喜欢的电视连续剧对你的大脑有害。)”可知,文章主要介绍追剧有害大脑及如何避免追剧带来的不良影响,选项C“Binge-watching: A Killer of Your Brain (追剧:大脑的一个杀手)”适合做本文标题。故选C项。

Art may not be a uniquely human patent. Apes (猿), monkeys, elephants, dolphins and even rabbits can be encouraged to express themselves via pencil and paper.
New research on the artistic efforts of apes suggests that their work varies according to changes in the world around them. The new study, published in the journal Animals, focuses on hundreds of drawings produced by five female apes at Japan’s Tama Zoological Park, where keepers provided them with crayons and paper over many years as part of a behavioural enrichment programme.
One of the apes, named Molly, was especially productive. She only started drawing on her54th birthday, but from that point on, until her death five years later, she produced about 1, 300 pictures. She drew almost every day, creating more complex pictures than her companions. “I don’t know if we can describe her as a genius,” says Sueur, a biologist in the park. “Such differences are often observed between individuals of a species, with some smarter than others.” Sueur and his colleagues identified individual differences between the apes’ artistic styles, in terms of their preferred colors, the types of shapes they drew and the space they filled on the paper. Only Moly routinely filled most of the space available.
Moly’s style changed with the season too. In summer and winter, greens dominated her pictures, but she switched to pinks and purples in spring and autumn. Appealingly, she opted for red whenever another female in the group was giving birth, which may indicate that her paintings are something more than purely abstract.
“We’ve tried not to overinterpret,” says Sueur. “It could be earlier representational art.” The biologists suggest that apes may provide clues to the development of artistic skills in humans. Like children, and unlike other species known to put pen to paper, the apes needed no reward to participate in the task, suggesting that they enjoy it for its own interest.
8. What can we learn from the first two paragraphs?
A. Animals’ artwork style remains unchanged.
B. Female animals do much better in art creation.
C. Animals can create masterpieces through efforts.
D. Some animals can acquire artistic skills like humans.
9. What might influence the apes’ performance in art creation?
A. Their starting age of creation. B. Their preferred seasons.
C. Individual differences between them. D. The quantity of their creation.
10. What do the underlined words “opted for” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Chose. B. Described. C. Interpreted. D. Abandoned.
11. What can be concluded from apes’ acquiring artistic skills?
A. Practice makes perfect. B. The sooner begun the better done.
C. Interest is the best teacher. D. God helps those who help themselves.
D 9. C 10. A 11. C
根据首段中的“Art may not be a uniquely human patent. Apes (猿), monkeys, elephants, dolphins and even rabbits can be encouraged to express themselves via pencil and paper. (艺术也许不是人类独有的专利。猿猴、猴子、大象、海豚甚至兔子都可以被鼓励用铅笔和纸来表达自己。)”可知,艺术不是人类独有的专利,结合第二段中“New research on the artistic efforts of apes suggests that their work varies according to changes in the world around them. (一项关于猿类艺术创作的新研究表明,它们的作品会随着周围环境的变化而变化。)”可知,一些动物可以像人类一样获得艺术技能。故选D项。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中的““Such differences are often observed between individuals of a species, with some smarter than others. ” Sueur and his colleagues identified individual differences between the apes’ artistic styles, in terms of their preferred colors, the types of shapes they drew and the space they filled on the paper.(“这种差异经常在一个物种的个体之间观察到,有些人比其他人更聪明。”Sueur和他的同事们确定了猿类艺术风格之间的个体差异,包括他们喜欢的颜色,他们画的形状的类型以及他们在纸上填充的空间。)”可知,研究者确定了猿类艺术风格之间存在着个体差异,由此可知,影响类人猿在艺术创作中表现的是他们之间的个体差异。故选C项。
【10题详解】
词义猜测题。根据划线短语前的“Moly’s style changed with the season too. In summer and winter, greens dominated her pictures, but she switched to pinks and purples in spring and autumn. (莫莉的风格也随着季节的变化而变化。在夏季和冬季,她的画以绿色为主,但在春季和秋季,她换成了粉红色和紫色。)”可知,莫莉的风格会随着季节的变化而变化,结合划线短语所在的句子中的“whenever another female in the group was giving birth, which may indicate that her paintings are something more than purely abstract.(每当画组中的另一位女性分娩时,她会……红色,这可能表明她的画不仅仅是纯粹的抽象。)”可知,莫莉的这种做法表明她的画不仅仅是一种纯粹的抽象,由此可知,此处指的是在画组中的另一位女性分娩时,她会“选择”红色,所以划线单词的意思与“选择”意义相近。故选A项。
根据尾段中的“Like children, and unlike other species known to put pen to paper, the apes needed no reward to participate in the task, suggesting that they enjoy it for its own interest. (像孩子一样,不像其他已知的会写字的物种,猿类参与这项任务不需要奖励,这表明它们为了自己的兴趣而享受这项任务。)”可知,猿类获得艺术技能不需要奖励,他们为了自己的利益而享受这项任务,由此可知,兴趣是最好的老师。故选C项。
D
In American society, anxiety is widespread. In fact, anxiety disorders are one of the most common mental health challenges in the United States, and they impact more than 31 percent of the population at some point in their lifetime (NAMI, 2024).
As a therapist, I frequently see clients come to therapy who are seeking support for anxiety. After all, anxiety doesn’t feel good. It can keep us up at night, bring feelings of danger, contribute to racing thoughts, cause hypervigilance, leave us feeling distracted and detached, make us feel sick, and more. The issue, though, isn’t anxiety itself, but when our brains or bodies become stuck in an anxiety cycle or interpret something as dangerous that isn’t. This isn’t our body’s fault, but instead is frequently a response to trauma, chronic stress, life circumstances, or genetic influences that can leave some brains more vulnerable to overdrive.
Anxiety is a physiological response that has meaning. It has purpose. It is there to protect us from danger. When we understand the function our anxiety is playing that knowledge alerts (提醒) us to what we need and can foster self-compassion (自我同情). As Karen Young discusses in her book Hey Warrior, anxiety is a sign of a strong working brain (even if anxiety might be a bit overprotective).
Understanding our anxiety brings us one step closer to coping with it and caring for ourselves through it. Here are a few important functions of anxiety: Alert us to danger; Wake our body up and give us the energy that we need in certain situations; Make us more aware of our surroundings, people around us, and situations (and how they are impacting us); Help us recognize that this situation or relationship is like one in the past that caused us harm; Motivate us to complete the tasks we need to do; Remind us about things that are important to us and move us toward taking the steps we need to take to accomplish our goals; Bring awareness about how others are doing and urge us to care for them.
Without a little bit of anxiety in our lives, we might not have the energy to do what we want or be who we want to be. The challenge comes in when our nervous system has been under chronic (长期的) stress and has challenges “turning off” or being in chronic “protection mode”, as I like to call it.
12. What is the main issue concerning anxiety according to the therapist?
A. Anxiety itself. B. Our brain’s or body’s response to anxiety.
C. The purpose of anxiety. D. The physiological response of anxiety.
13 How does Karen Young describe anxiety in her book Hey Warrior?
A. A sign of weakness. B. A sign of a broken brain.
C. A sign of laziness. D. A sign of a strong working brain.
14. What is the author’s attitude towards anxiety according to the last paragraph?
A. Entirely negative. B. Entirely positive. C. Balanced and mixed. D. Undecided and confused.
15. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Understanding the Causes of Anxiety B. The Benefits of Experiencing Anxiety
C. Anxiety: A Complex and Misunderstood Emotion D. Anxiety as a Sign of a Strong Working Brain
B 13. D 14. C 15. C
根据第二段的句子“The issue, though, isn’t anxiety itself, but when our brains or bodies become stuck in an anxiety cycle or interpret something as dangerous that isn’t.(然而,问题不在于焦虑本身,而是当我们的大脑或身体陷入焦虑的循环中,或者把一些并不危险的事情解读为危险的时候。)”
根据第三段的最后一句“As Karen Young discusses in her book Hey Warrior, anxiety is a sign of a strong working brain (even if anxiety might be a bit overprotective).(正如凯伦·杨在她的书《嘿,勇士》中所讨论的那样,焦虑是大脑运转良好的标志(即使焦虑可能有点过度保护)。)”
根据最后一段“Without a little bit of anxiety in our lives, we might not have the energy to do what we want or be who we want to be. The challenge comes in when our nervous system has been under chronic (长期的) stress and has challenges “turning off” or being in chronic “protection mode”, as I like to call it.(如果我们的生活中没有一点焦虑,我们可能就没有精力去做我们想做的事或成为我们想成为的人。

A skull of the dinosaur, named Guemesia ochoai, was discovered in Argentina. Researchers said it likely belongs to a meat-eating, or carnivorous, group of dinosaurs ____36____ (call) abelisaurs. These dinosaurs walked on two legs and had very short arms, even ____37____ (short) than those of North America’s Tyrannosaurus rex. The short arms may have forced Guemesia ____38____ (depend) more on its powerful skull and jaws.
“Guemesia is so different ____39____ other meat-eating dinosaurs, which allows us to understand that we’re dealing with a ____40____ (total) new species,” said Agnolin Federico, the lead writer of a study on the dinosaur that was published in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology.
The animals existed for a few million years before ____41____ asteroid (小行星) hit what is now Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula. That event, about 66 millions years ago, led to a series of ____42____ (disaster) that killed all the dinosaurs and many other animals. In total, about 75 percent of Earth’s species ____43____ (destroy) as a result of the asteroid.
Scientists believe abelisaurs lived on what is now Africa, South America and India. Several abelisaurs have been dug up in Argentina in the past but almost all of them were in southern Patagonia, far from the site ____44____ Guemesia was found.
Guemesia takes its name from Argentine independence hero Martin Miguel de Guemes and Javier Ochoa, a museum worker who made the ____45____ (discover).
36. called
37. shorter
38. to depend

force sb. to do sth. 故填to depend。
be different from是固定短语,意为“和……

a series of后要加可数名词复数,故填disasters。
故填were destroyed。

It was the day of the big cross-country run. Students from seven different primary schools in and around the small town were warming up and walking the route(路线)through thick evergreen forest.
I looked around and finally spotted David, who was standing by himself off to the side by a fence. He was small for ten years old. His usual big toothy smile was absent today. I walked over and asked him why he wasn’t with the other children. He hesitated and then said he had decided not to run.
What was wrong? He had worked so hard for this event!
I quickly searched the crowd for the school’s coach and asked him what had happened. “I was afraid that kids from other schools would laugh at him,” he explained uncomfortably. “I gave him the choice to run or not, and let him decide.”
I bit back my frustration(懊恼). I knew the coach meant well—he thought he was doing the right thing. After making sure that David could run if he wanted, I turned to find him coming towards me, his small body rocking from side to side as he swung his feet forward.
David had a brain disease which prevented him from walking or running like other children, but at school his classmates thought of him as a regular kid. He always participated to the best of his ability in whatever they were doing. That was why none of the children thought it unusual that David had decided to join the cross-country team. It just took him longer—that’s all. David had not missed a single practice, and although he always finished his run long after the other children, he did always finish. As a special education teacher at the school, I was familiar with the challenges David faced and was proud of his strong determination.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn’t look at me. I said gently and quietly, “No one can change your mind, except yourself. If you desire to challenge yourself, there is nothing to do with others’ thoughts.” He sat still with a deep breath. “You have a full preparation before this event, which is the most important reason why you show up here”, I added with a sincere tone. Hearing my words, David turned to me tremblingly with tears spilling out of his eyes and expressed he had made a firm determination to finish the cross-country run. His coach heard what David said and gave me a look—the kind that was more determined than anyone else’s.
I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners. The race started. It seemed that the runway was extremely long for young children, not to mention a child with a brain disease. David insisted on running as if he had forgotten all his weaknesses, though he was tripped over within the a few kilometers. It didn’t take long before he picked himself up again and continued his mission. Classmates all appeared on the racing track, cheering for him. “Come on! You can make it! We are proud of you!” they shouted enthusiastically. To everyone’s joy, he reached the final line and ranked the 20th. It was no more important whether he won the first place or not. It was his brave heart and strong faith that could make something unusual happen finally.

A. Do’s and don’ts of binge-watching.
B. The tips on how to develop a health y lifestyle.
C. The ways to keep away from binge-watching.
D. The reasons why binge-watching is problematic.
7. What may be the best title of the passage?
A. Binge-watching: The Result of Addiction
B. Binge-watching: A Must of A Better Life
C. Binge-watching: A Killer of Your Brain
D. Binge-watching: Gradual Harm on Your Health

B. The sooner begun, the better done.
C. Interest is the best teacher. D. God helps those who help themselves.

When we understand the function our anxiety is playing, that knowledge alerts (提醒) us to what we need and can foster self-compassion (自我同情).
13. How does Karen Young describe anxiety in her book Hey Warrior?
A. A sign of weakness. B. A sign of a broken brain.
C. A sign of laziness. D. A sign of a strong working brain.
14. What is the author’s attitude towards anxiety according to the last paragraph?
A. Entirely negative. B. Entirely positive. C. Balanced and mixed. D. Undecided and confused.
15. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Understanding the Causes of Anxiety B. The Benefits of Experiencing Anxiety
C. Anxiety: A Complex and Misunderstood Emotion D. Anxiety as a Sign of a Strong Working Brain

A skull of the dinosaur, named Guemesia ochoai, was discovered in Argentina. Researchers said it likely belongs to a meat-eating, or carnivorous, group of dinosaurs ____36____ (call) abelisaurs.
