【范文示例】
As the first rays of sunlight pierced through the thin veil of morning mist, I found myself standing on the banks of the serene river. The water, still and calm, mirrored the sky above, its surface glistening like a polished silver sheet. The gentle ripples, barely perceptible, whispered secrets to the shore, creating a soothing melody that seemed to lull the world into a peaceful slumber.
The air was fresh, tinged with the scent of dew-soaked earth and the faint fragrance of wildflowers that dotted the riverbank. I took a deep breath, feeling the coolness seep into my lungs, refreshing me after a long night's journey. Birds, perched on the branches of nearby trees, began their morning chorus, their songs blending harmoniously with the rustling leaves and the distant hum of the waking village.
The river, like a loyal companion, curved gracefully through the landscape, embracing the banks with its tender embrace. Trees, with their leaves shimmering in the early light, stood tall and proud, guardians of this tranquil haven. Occasionally, a fish would leap from the water, breaking the surface with a splash that echoed through the quiet air, before disappearing back into the depths.
I sat down on the grass, feeling the softness beneath me, and let my thoughts drift with the current. The river's gentle flow seemed to carry away my worries and anxieties, leaving me with a sense of calm and contentment. As I gazed at the endless stretch of water, I couldn't help but feel a deep connection to this place, as if the river itself was a part of me, flowing through my veins, whispering stories of the past and present.
In that moment, I knew that this river, with its beauty and tranquility, would always be a source of inspiration and solace for me. And as the sun climbed higher in the sky, casting golden light across the water, I felt grateful for this chance to connect with nature, to feel its power and gentleness, and to find peace within its embrace.

It was the second day in the new office and Maya was still on her own. Except the man who had taken her induction (入职), there was no one else who had said a “hi” to the young woman.
Not only was it a new office, it was also a new city. While she had successfully climbed the corporate ladder (阶梯) for a better salary, she hadn’t really made any friends in the new city or office yet. Looking at the whole workplace from her seat at the end of the hall, Maya felt an urge to cry. But she was a grown woman and that was simply not an option.
She decided to eat her lunch, as lonely as it might feel. Her lunch box revealed fried rice with vegetables and an old memory hit her from the depth of her mind.
It was fifteen years ago and their sports period had just been canceled. The children had brought some snacks from the school canteen to the classroom and were chewing noisily. The class teacher came in with a young girl. “This is Tina, new to Delhi and your school. Make her feel welcome, you all,” she said.
While the students said a big “hi” to her in chorus, that was all they did. Tina was seated right next to Maya, something the latter (后者) didn’t like. So, she turned to Tina and said, “My best friend sits next to me. You have been given this seat because she is absent today. Once she is back, you have to find yourself a new seat, OK?” Tina sadly nodded her head, but Maya didn’t care. As the popular girl in class, Maya had a lot going for her—she had many friends, the teachers loved her and she was the queen of debating. So, she hardly spoke to the new girl who sat next to her for a whole week.

Tom Young was on his way home from a hard day’s work at a construction site, carrying his worn-out hammer which had accompanied him through thick and thin. With each step, his mind was filled with worry as he racked his brain to find money for his seriously ill son, Andrew, who was in great need of heart surgery.
Tom had run out of choices and time. Desperation was beginning to set in, but he refused to let his son suffer helplessly. As he walked, the weight of his troubles pressed heavily on his shoulders. So desperate was he that he even heard a hum in his ears. The next moment the hum was entirely covered by a loud sound.
He turned in shock, and what he saw took his breath away. An expensive luxury car was wrapped around a big tree on the other side of the street, with its front twisted and flames starting to spring up from the car.
Without a second thought, he ran to the flaming car. He noticed that although the young lady in the driver’s seat did not seem to have been severely injured - apparently because of the open airbag - she was unconscious. Tom saw that the flames began to grow increasingly intense. He realized that he had to get the girl out of the car immediately because there was a high risk of the vehicle exploding at any time.
He grabbed the handle and pulled it, but the door was bent and did not open. He used all his strength and tried again, but in vain. It was a sports car, so it had only two doors, and the other one was blocked by the tree. He decided that he had to break the glass to take her out as quickly as possible. He struck it forcefully with his fist but realized that there was no way he could break the thick glass with bare hands, and the flames were getting bigger.

In the heart of the Whispering Woods, where the sun’s rays danced through the top and the river whispered secrets to the wind, two teenagers, Alex and Jamie, went on a camping adventure. They sought not just a break from their screens but a connection with nature’s unspoken language. Little did they know, their journey would intertwine (交织) with a tale as old as time itself.
The first day was filled with laughter and exploration. They hiked, cooked over an open fire, and shared stories under the starlit sky. Yet, as the night deepened, a strange sound repeated through the woods — a heartbreaking cry that seemed to sign them. It was a call neither could ignore.
Following the sound led them deeper into the forest, their flashlights cutting through the darkness. The trail was dangerous, yet something urged them forward. Suddenly, in a clearing bathed in moonlight, they found her — a deer, trapped in an ancient trap, her eyes reflecting fear and desperation.
Their hearts heavy, Alex and Jamie knew they had to act fast. The trap was simple but strong, its ropes fixed deeply into the soft earth. Pulling at it only caused the deer more pain. They needed a plan, one that respected the greatness of the forest and the life before them.
Time was against them. The dawn brought predators (捕食者) and hunters alike, and the trapped deer was weak. Thinking quickly, Alex remembered the survival skills learned from his grandfather — knowledge that could mean the difference between life and death. He proposed building a temporary pulley (滑轮) system using branches, a delicate operation that required precision and patience.
Jamie, ever the optimist, gathered nearby stones and sticks, crafting a barrier around the deer to keep potential threats at bay. Meanwhile, Alex worked tirelessly on the pulley, each knot (结) tied with a prayer for the deer’s safety. As the sun rose, casting long shadows across the forest floor, their efforts bore fruit. With a gentle pull, the trap released its hold, and the deer stood, free once more.

Tommy wanted to find out more about the book he found in his grandma’s attic (阁楼), but didn’t know where to begin. He couldn’t read what was written in it or on it, so he probably wouldn’t get very far. But he was a guy who never gave up easily. He decided to start with the illustrations since they were the most undamaged part.
He spent hours on the computer trying to find out about the images and the book. Unfortunately, the illustrations weren’t very clear. He was slowly becoming desperate when suddenly he found something. Tommy was taken aback by the article he was reading. He could not believe his eyes. Was he dreaming? He took a closer look at the image on his computer monitor and compared it with the book. There was no question in his mind that it was real. Could this be happening?
Still, he could not be sure. He needed to confirm that the book was what he believed it to be, and he knew exactly where to go. He carefully put the book into a bag and jumped on his bicycle to run across town. After a few minutes, he arrived at the pawn shop (当铺) and was greeted by the owner, Victor. When Tommy informed him of the item he had brought, Victor appeared a little upset and said, “I have no time for this.” It was evident that Victor did not believe him.
Tommy was starting to doubt himself — it wasn’t crazy that the guy didn’t trust him, but he didn’t think he could trust himself either! Still, Tommy wasn’t going to let Victor turn him away — he needed answers, and he wasn’t going to get them if he didn’t find out the truth. So he took the book out of his bag and put it down on the counter, and Victor’s eyes went wide. He asked where the book had come from, and Tommy said it was from his grandmother.

Each year I volunteered at a summer camp for children with asthma (哮喘). Having the condition myself, I used to go there myself as a summer camper, and then became an advisor when I came of age.
This camp is a wonderful place that I could spend days talking about — it does amazing things to the kids and there are many heartwarming stories. I’ve met quantities of unforgettable individuals there, but one child definitely stands out.
One year, as a senior advisor, I was in charge of a team of kids participating in the camp games and activities. On the first day, the camp director came to talk to me with a small girl called Sally. She was adorable, lively, smart, funny, and about 9 years old then. In addition to asthma, the girl had another serious disease. This meant I had to keep a very, very close eye on her, particularly during games. Being too thirsty, too cold, or not being able to breathe right: these were the things that could bring about major trouble for Sally. Because of her condition, Sally was not allowed to go swimming in the camp’s pool. The water had to be at least 35 degrees for her to swim, and that had never happened in the camp’s history. Watching other kids swimming and playing in the pool, Sally wanted so badly to join them and learn to swim.
Then, the worst heat wave ever hit the camp. While this was bad for most other campers, it gave Sally a precious opportunity; for the first time, the water temperature hit 37 degrees. She came to me and begged to learn to swim. Looking into her longing eyes, I decided to help the girl to realize her dream. For her safety, I took Sally to one of the camp doctors first. He gave her a thorough checkup and finally approved of her request.

I stared at the grayish mass my mom had dropped next to my corn. She knew how to make seven meals. That was all. Each of her meals began with the same letter as the day of the week, like Fish Fridays and Spaghetti Saturdays. Today was Meatloaf (肉糕) Monday, again.
I pushed my food back and forth on my plate, watching the sad meatloaf spread around. Noticing that, Jeanie pushed her plate away too. At eleven, I should have set an example for my younger sister. But today, I felt out of sorts. I grabbed the salt shaker and pointedly shook it all over my food to show my dislike. A look of hurt and disappointment crossed my mom’s face.
The next day, our teacher announced a cooking competition to finish off our unit on kitchen skills. It would be like the show MiniChef, where contestants created dishes using only the provided ingredients (材料). The difference was that we all had to make a specific dish assigned by the judges within an hour. As he revealed the grand prize — the newest book in the Cave of the Dragons series — the class erupted in cheers. The book was a treasure, nearly impossible to find.
At break, everyone was talking about the competition, wondering which dish we would be asked to make. Tania, my best friend, was confident she would win. She claimed to have her dad’s genes and her dad was an amazing cook. My thoughts shifted to my family. I couldn’t help but wish my mom were a professional chef; then I wouldn’t be stuck with the repetitive meatloaf. To be honest, it tasted good, but I was just tired of it.
On the day of the competition, I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. As we filed into the kitchen classroom, the judges handed out the ingredients: beef, onions, eggs, and seasonings (调料). Since I had learned accurate measuring, food preparation and cooking techniques this term, I felt confident to cook with creativity.

It’s not like I purposely try to be unapproachable. I just can’t speak openly about how I feel. I’m not even all that frightening; I’m short and small for a fifteen-year-old and practically unnoticeable.
Once, I made the mistake of asking Frank, my honest cousin, what he thought about this. The little ten-year-old replied, “You do look kind of standoffish to me. I think it’s because you cross your arms and look like you’re in a bad mood.” I knew Frank didn’t mean any harm. There was probably truth to his observations. For instance, Mom’s always telling me to smile more.
Even when my family and friends are around me, I’m often an outsider to everything. Sometimes, all I wish for is a hug. But I would never admit that aloud. If anyone asks, I’ll say I’m okay. Nobody really hugged me, though, until I met Lainey Pidato.
We had to do a mini group project at the beginning of the chemistry class. The teacher partnered me with Lainey Pidato, a girl who was considerate and cheerful, and we got the work done easily. It wasn’t like we became good friends all of a sudden, but gradually, we started talking between classes. And if one of us ever needed help, especially in the difficult chemistry, the other was there. I learned that Lainey was the kind of person who always saw the bright side of things, and her positivity impressed me.
I was in low spirits one Monday because Mom’s coworker and her little son came over the night before. Ms. Meiz was nice enough, but her little boy was scared. He hid behind his mom, and when I tried to be friendly by smiling, he covered (畏缩) even further. “He’s just shy,” Ms. Meiz told me, forcing a smile, but I knew the truth and it depressed me deeply. Even after school, it still upset me. I sat on the chair outside the playground to try and clear my head.

Every October, I beg my parents to take us to a pumpkin patch (园地) and every October it doesn’t work out. That’s why I couldn’t believe my ears when my dad came home with the world’s best news.
“Guess what!” he said. “I just saw a poster for the jack-o’-lantern (南瓜灯) design party in the Pumpkin Patch, and it’s not too far from here.”
“No way!” I said. “Can we go?”
“Pumpkin! Pumpkin! Party! Party!” chanted my little brother, Tex.
“Let’s go! But I’ve heard a rumor that something terrible happened there.” said my dad, worried.
Within minutes, Tex and I already jumped into the car and buckled up, ready to go. “I’m going to pick the gian test pumpkin,” said Tex.
“Giantest isn’t an actual word,” I said.
“I’ m going to pick the bestest pumpkin!” shouted Tex.
“I’m pretty sure bestest isn’t an actual word either.” I giggled. “I’m going to pick whichever pumpkin will make the scariest jack-o’-lantern.”
“All right, boys! Too much excitement! What if something really goes wrong?” my dad cut in.
No response. My dad continued, “If plan A fails, we can get creative and come up with Plan B!”
Still no response.
Tex and I continued our excitement, giggling and chatting.
The drive was extra cool because we saw all kinds of Halloween decorations along the way.
“Look!” Tex said, pointing to twinkling orange lights and a flashing Pumpkin Patch sign.
“Yeah! Yes! It wasn’t too far a drive,” I said. “Watch out, pumpkins! Here we come!”
Coming into our sight were pumpkins of various sizes that lay in the patch.
“I pick that giant one!” Tex said, running over to pick it up. But just before he did, he said, “Ew! There’s a hole in it!” Tex quickly raced to another perfectly perfect pumpkin. But when he got closer, he said, “No fair! Someone took a bite.”

You’d think that after hearing Mom and Dad talk about The Trip for a year, I’d be eager to go. But I didn’t even want to think about it. “Aren’t you excited?” asked Dad, looking up from his laptop. “This is the trip of lifetime. I’ll bet none of your friends will be driving across the United States this summer.
Exactly, I thought. Nobody I knew was going to pile into an old van, and drive from California to New York and back in 58 days. Fifty-eight days! That was practically my whole summer! But I knew it was useless to protest.
When Dad was offered a summer off for the first time in his career, he said that he’d always dreamed of driving across the country. So we were going. This was Dad’s chance.
I picked up my cat, Max, and buried my face in his fur. He pawed at my ears playfully. Good-bye, summer vacation. Good-bye, diving at the lake. Good-bye to hanging out and doing absolutely nothing. Good-bye, Max. I was going to miss this ball of fur. I put him down and laughed as he batted a button across the floor like a soccer player. He was interested in all small objects.
The closer The Trip got, the harder it was going to ignore. Thick envelopes arrived from places like Indiana, Tennessee, and Arkansas. Night after night, Mom and dad huddled around the computer, plotting every inch of our 8,000-mile journey.
Three days after school got out, The Trip was finally here. Everything was packed and ready to go. Mom said that we were supposed to leave at 9 a. m. But when dad noticed a wet spot under the van, I realized we wouldn’t be going anywhere for a while. Dad crawled under the van. Car parts sprang up around the van like mushrooms.
Minutes turned into hours. By the time Dad gave Mom the news, it was late afternoon. “I fixed the leak.” said Dad, “But now I can’t find one of the the fan bolts(螺栓).” Mom organized a search, but in vain.Paragraph 1: Dad called the stores but none carried the bolt that fitted this old van.

Paragraph 2: Then it hit me where the bolt might be. “Max!” I shouted, “Find Max!”

It was a normal Sunday morning. I might have been nine years old. The sun shone through my curtains, gently waking me up. Then I heard my mom’s voice from downstairs.
“Emily! Breakfast is ready!”
I quickly got dressed and raced down the stairs, the smell of pancakes guiding me to the kitchen. My little brother, Tommy, was already at the table, staring at the pancakes.
“Morning, sleepyhead,” Dad said with a smile as I sat down.
As we ate, Mom mentioned, “Your Aunt Sarah is coming over later. She’s bringing some old photo albums (相册).”
I sighed secretly. Photo albums meant hours of sitting still when the adults recalled the good old days, talking about grandmothers and grandfathers. But little did I know this Sunday would be different.
After breakfast, I determined to make the most of my free time before Aunt Sarah arrived. I headed to the backyard, where our tree house stood tall and was inviting. As I climbed up, I noticed something odd—a small key hanging from one of the branches.
Out of curiosity, I called out to Tommy. He climbed up the ladder, his eyes widening at the sight of the key. “Whoa! Where did that come from?”
“I don’t know,” I replied, carefully taking it down. “But I think we should investigate.”
For the next hour, we searched the backyard, looking for anything the key might open. We checked old toy boxes, the garden shed and even the loose boards on the fence. Nothing seemed to fit. Just as we were about to give up, we heard Aunt Sarah’s car pull into the driveway. Disappointed but still interested, we headed inside. “There are my favorite niece and nephew!” Aunt Sarah cheered, enveloping us with a warm hug. She set down a large, dusty box on the coffee table. To our surprise, the box wasn’t filled with photo albums, but with all sorts of trinkets (小饰品).

Finally, Maya’s best friend returned to school after a fever attack. As expected, Maya’s friend reclaimed her seat next to Maya, displacing Tina once again. Tina, with tears welling up in her eyes, quietly packed her things and moved to an empty desk at the back of the classroom. Maya watched her go, feeling a pang of guilt but quickly dismissing it. However, this incident left a lasting impression on Maya, a reminder of how she had once been insensitive to the feelings of others.
So lost in thought was Maya that she didn’t notice a woman standing beside her. Tina smiled warmly and said, “Maya, long time no see. I hope you remember me.” Maya was taken aback, her mind racing back to those childhood days. Embarrassment and shame washed over her as she realized the impact her actions had on Tina. Tina, sensing Maya’s discomfort, gently placed a hand on her shoulder and said, “It’s okay, Maya. I just wanted to let you know that I forgave you a long time ago.” Maya smiled back, feeling a weight lift off her shoulders. In that moment, she vowed to be more considerate to new faces in her current workplace.

Carefully, he reached into the vehicle, avoiding the jagged edges, and unbuckled the unconscious young lady. But the deer, weakened by her suffering, almost fell. Her legs trembled under her weight, and she breathed heavily. It was then that Jamie, with a flash of determination in his eyes, suggested leading her to the river, where she might drink some water to get her energy back. Together, they approached the deer, their movements slow and deliberate, not wanting to surprise her further. The deer, sensing no threat, allowed them to draw closer. Guiding her, step by careful step, they reached the water’s edge.
The deer lowered her head and drank deeply. With each sip, her eyes regained their sparkle, her body regaining its strength. Then, with a final nod of gratitude, the deer limped away, pausing for a moment to look back at its rescuers. In that brief glance, there was a connection, a mutual understanding that went beyond words. Outside, the world carried on with its usual hustle and bustle, but in that small pawn shop, time seemed to stand still. After what felt like an age, Victor emerged from his office, his expression unreadable. “The expert will be here soon,” he muttered, his eyes darting back to the book. Tommy nodded, his throat too dry to speak.
At last, the expert turned around and spoke to Tommy. His voice was calm yet carried an undertone of excitement. “This book,” he began, “is truly remarkable. It dates back to a bygone era, a time when knowledge was carefully preserved in the written word. Then Sally and I headed for the pool. She stood at the edge of the pool, her eyes alight with excitement, but her body shaking slightly with nerves. “We’ll do it together, Sally. Are you ready to try?” I whispered encouragingly. She nodded and with a deep breath, she dipped her feet into the water, slowly lowering herself in. As she gradually adapted to the water, Sally began to move around, tentatively at first, but growing more confident with each stroke. Her courage inspired the other kids around her, who cheered and encouraged her enthusiastically.
Later that day, I gathered all the campers to share their experiences during the day. “Today, I learned to swim! Thank you all for your help and care,” Sally said first, her voice full of gratitude and pride. I approached and gave her a big hug, while the other kids gave her a thumbs-up. We all knew that Sally’s determination and bravery had not only given her a memorable experience but also taught every camper the importance of never giving up our dreams and mutual support. And this would be a significant lesson in every camper’s journey of growth.

Then the judges announced that the dish we had to make was meatloaf. I couldn’t believe my ears. Meatloaf? The dish I had seen my mom make countless times? Memories of my mom preparing meatloaf came flooding back. I began combining the beef with the onions. As I stirred them, I could almost hear Mom’s voice instructing me. To add a personal touch, I even used tomato sauce. As I baked the meatloaf, the familiar smell floated up, reminding me of Meatloaf Mondays at home. With the timer finally going off, I pulled my meatloaf out.
I looked at my creation proudly, waiting for the judges to taste it. When they reached me, I held my breath. They took a bite, nodded, and moved on. After all the dishes were tasted, the judges announced the winner. To my astonishment, it was me! Winning the book was amazing, but what mattered more was the newfound appreciation I had for my mom. When I was about to leave, I saw Lainey heading towards me. She had that familiar cheerful expression on her face.“Hey, you!” she called out, waving as she approached. I managed a small smile and waved back, trying to mask my depression. Lainey simply sat down beside me for a moment, looking at the playground. Her presence was comforting, and I felt a tiny bit of the heaviness in my chest lift. After a minute, she turned to me and said, “You look like you need a hug.” Before I could reject her, she wrapped her arms around me.
It was the first hug I’d gotten in a very long time. Lainey held me tightly, and for a moment, all my defenses broke down. I felt tears well up in my eyes, but I didn’t try to stop them. She then stood up, with genuine concern in her eyes, and extended her hand to me, “If you want a hug, just say so. That’s when I noticed the Pumpkin Patch Closed sign. My heart sank as I turned to my dad, who looked just as disappointed. “What do we do now?” I asked, feeling a wave of sadness wash over me. But my dad smiled and said, “Don’t worry! We can still have fun. Let’s find a local store that sells pumpkins and create our own jack-o’-lanterns at home.” Tex’s eyes lit up at the idea, and he exclaimed, “Yeah! We can make them even scarier!”
Finally came our own jack-o’-lantern design party the next day. We gathered all the supplies: bright orange pumpkins, carving tools, and plenty of snacks. As we carved and decorated, laughter filled the air. Tex and I competed to see who could create the scariest face, while our parents cheered us on. In the end, we had a row of unique jack-o’-lanterns, each with its own personality. The best part was that we made wonderful memories together, proving that even when plans change, we can always find joy in creativity and family time.

Dad called the stores but none carried the bolt that fitted this old van. I gasped. Maybe we were not going on The Trip after all. According to Mom, messing up our agenda—even by one day—would send our schedule toppling like dominoes. Reservations would need to be canceled; destinations would be changed. My soul silently rejoiced. But then I saw Dad. He was leaning over the engine, his hands black with grease. His dream—The Trip of a Lifetime—was vanishing before his eyes. “So much for seeing everything from ‘sea to shining sea,’” Dad said with a weak smile. Earlier, I would have celebrated. But not this moment. I couldn’t bear to see Dad so disappointed. I stared at the lifeless van—the reason that his dream was fading. Where did that bolt go? I couldn’t help but wonder.
Then it hit me where the bolt might be. “Max!” I shouted, “Find Max!” Without knowing why, everyone scrambled to look for the cat. I found him at the end of the driveway near the garage. As usual, he was batting something around. I scooped up Max, and sure enough, there was the bolt. I grabbed it and waved it like a flag. Dad’s face lit up. An hour later, I was in the van with my family. Dad glanced back at me in the rear-view mirror. “Thanks!” he said. I smiled. As our van chugged down the freeway, I thought this trip might not be so bad after all. Good-bye, regular old summer vacation. Hello... Trip of a Lifetime?

As Aunt Sarah began to explain each item, I couldn’t help but notice an old, wooden box at the bottom. “Aunt Sarah,” I interrupted, my heart racing. “What’s that box?” She smiled, a twinkle in her eye. “Oh, that old thing? It belonged to your grandmother, who always said it held a special secret, but none of us could ever open it. The key was lost years ago.” Tommy and I exchanged excited glances. Could it be? I pulled out the key we’d found earlier that morning. “Would this work?” I wondered, starting trying inserting the key into the lock.
Aunt Sarah’s jaw dropped as I put the key into the lock. With a satisfying click, the box opened, revealing a collection of handwritten letters. As we read through the letters-love notes between our grandparents, we learned about their journey, their struggles and their love for each other and their family. Tears welled up in Aunt Sarah’s eyes as she hugged us tightly. “You two have uncovered a family treasure,” she said, her voice filled with emotion. That Sunday morning taught me the value of curiosity, family history, and the unexpected adventures that could arise from the most ordinary days.
