Passage 5
(24-25高二上·江苏苏州·阶段练习)
Dear Badminton,
I do remember the days, before we met. I came back to an empty home with nothing to look forward to. There were many nights when I would lie in bed wondering if I would ever find something as 61 as you. After years of nothing happening, you moved next door in the form of a court and 62 your doors open for me to walk through.
In my entire life, I never knew I would find such 63 in spending time getting to know you. When I started this journey with you, I was obviously 64 but you were patient and let me try again and again. That is one thing I like about you — no matter how big a 65 I might be in life, you give me a chance to be the best 66 of myself with you. I fail many times. I am out of breath. I run badly. But 67 I lose, you let me play again. When I’m too tired, you tell me that it’s time for me to take a rest while also assuring me that you’ll be open tomorrow for me to come back and pick up wherever I 68 .
There were times when I’d think: Is this going to be another 69 hobby that I pursue only to give up after not making any 70 ? That has happened before. It happened with me playing the piano. It happened with me learning to make cheesecake.
You make me want to be 71 . I wake up early to train. I put the right food into my body so that I stay healthy. I practice so that I’m always prepared for a 72 whenever it should happen. I’ll do my best to make you feel 73 . I’ll do my best to be there for you as 74 as the rock you’ve been for me. As a sport, you don’t believe words or read letters. You only see actions, which is why I’ll 75 the talk.
When I’m in the court and I see old people coming in with their inhalers to play, I suddenly have the answer to that question I have been asked so many times — “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I want to be there with you till the end.
Love you always,
Paul

Exercise in the morning. Want to improve your heart health and you’re a man? Evening is better for you.
Love you always,
Paul

I 21 (become) interested in Tai Chi after reading about it in a magazine. At the time, I was looking for a way to balance my job as a manager at an IT firm with my 22 (person) life. I didn’t want to go to the gym or sweat my way through the woods. I was looking for a less strenuous (费力的) way to exercise while also relaxing 23 (mental).
My path to Tai Chi took me through a number of teachers and courses. The first Tai Chi form, on 24 other hand, I learned from a textbook. This book was my first 25 (introduce) to Tai Chi. The book’s very precise step-by-step instructions were very well explained to me. The Yang form was demonstrated, 26 is a very good and simple form for learning Tai Chi. I didn’t really know 27 I needed to pay attention to at the time, so I just learned the movement sequence (顺序) of the form, strictly 28 (follow) the instructions in the book.
I can only report positive results after 29 (year) of consistent training. I’ve gained mental stability and calm. My mindfulness has gotten better, and I am now more aware 30 the here and now in my everyday life.
Passage 4
(24-25高二上·江苏南京·阶段练习)
With our already busy lives, finding time to exercise can feel like one more thing on our ‘to do’ list. So maybe it would help if there was ‘a best time’ to exercise? Could exercising at certain times help 31 (maximum) our fitness goals? The answer is ‘yes’, but it’s easier than you think, no matter who you are or when you like to work out.
There are clear benefits to exercising in the morning. Many of us have more free time compared to 32 (late) in the day and it may therefore be easier for us to stick 33 a morning workout routine. A study published in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise found that 34 (participate) who exercised in the morning, increased the physical activity throughout the day, were less distracted by food and slept better. Exercising on an empty stomach before breakfast could also burn more fat and increase metabolism, which 35 (mean) you’ll continue to burn calories throughout the day. So good news for early birds, but what if you’re not a morning person? Working out in the afternoon or evening also has benefits, just different 36 . For example, your body’s ability 37 (perform) peaks in the afternoon, according to a 2010 study by the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine and Science in Sports. Also, in the afternoon and evening, your reaction time is 38 (quick) and your heart rate and blood pressure are lowest, 39 reduce your chance of injury while improving performance.
But does any of this change 40 (depend) on whether you’re a man or a woman? Our bodies are different after all, so the best time to exercise may be different too. A 2020 study from Skidmore College, New York, looked at exactly this question and the results showed that there are some differences. Want to reduce your blood pressure and you’re a woman? Exercise in the morning. Want to improve your heart health and you’re a man? Evening is better for you. But, ultimately, the study found that there are clear benefits for both sexes to exercising at either time of day. So what time is best? It seems the answer is : whatever time is best for you!
