City Blossoms is one of many groups across the country teaming up with local communities to build school gardens, like the one at Eastern. It works with schools to create learning gardens and trains teachers on how to use them to get students engaged. These gardens are really outdoor classrooms. For example, the gardens can be used for math lessons, like calculating the area of a plant bed, or to learn the science of how plants grow. The heavy sigh and slightly hungover (难受的) feeling this type of contents brings about might best be described as brain rot, an Oxford’s 2024 Word of the Year. Brain rot is when someone’s mental or intellectual state gets worse, especially as a result of overconsuming low-quality, low-value online content, which is considered trivial. It comes from all those meaningless images and videos that don’t stir the soul.Initially gaining attraction on social media platforms, brain rot is now seeing more widespread use.The term increased in usage frequency by 230% between 2023 and 2024. Although it seems very modern, brain rot, as a phrase, dates back to Henry David Thoreau. As Oxford University Press notes on its website, the first recorded use of brain rot is found in Thoreau’s 1854 book Walden.Thoreau criticizes society’s tendency to devalue (使贬值) ideas. He believes this is a sign of a wider decline in mental and intellectual effort.“While England tries to cure the potato rot, will no effort be made to cure the brain rot, which is much more widespread and deadly?” For better or worse (almost certainly worse), the distinction between our online and offline lives has been disappearing for years, and the line is now all but gone. The best thing we can do is see it all as life itself, and know that whatever feeling we are dealing with is a version of what Thoreau dealt with 170 years ago.Only slightly more stupid. 32.Why does the author mention the image posted online?( ) A.To deepen thinking. B.To lead in a concept. C.To present advanced technology. D.To introduce famous persons. 33.What does the underlined word “trivial” in paragraph 3 probably mean?( ) A.Unimportant. B.Uncertain. C.Dishonorable. D.Impossible. 34.How might Thoreau feel when he referred to brain rot?( ) A.Doubtful. B.Indifferent. C.Concerned. D.Optimistic. 35.According to the passage, who may have brain rot?( ) A.People browsing videos aimlessly. B.Professors criticizing society’s tendency. C.Netizens sharing pictures online. This is your inner voice.36. Your inner voice can be helpful but sometimes it’s unkind and says you can’t do something or that there’s no point in trying.Psychologist and author Ethan Kross calls this “chatter” and says it is connected to how you feel about yourself. Here are two ways to calm your inner voice. Try to develop a kind inner voice. When your inner voice is kind and supportive, you feel good about yourself.Sometimes, you may feel worried about joining a new club or taking a maths test.37. Kross says when this happens you can work out problems more easily and feel positive.Sometimes, though, especially if you’re stressed, a different voice cuts in.It might say you won’t make friends or tell you you’re hopeless at maths.Listening to chatter like this can make you unhappy and stop you believing in yourself.38. Change the conversation.“Start by being aware of what your inner voice is saying,” says Kross.“You probably don’t realize how often you say negative things in your head,” she explains.39. Maybe it is when you’re nervous or trying something new. Then switch to kinder words instead.Kross recommends making a clear difference between you and your chatter.40. Use your name and say things like, “This is hard but you can do it.” It helps you stand back and see something as a challenge to overcome instead of feeling like you want to give up. A.Then you may turn to a close friend for help. B.It’s like having a private conversation in your mind. C.The good news is that you can change the conversation. D.Listen for the time when your negative inner voice is loud. E.Then you can use it to encourage yourself as a friend would. F.The positive things we say to ourselves are far from enough. G.So, when stressed, talk to yourself as if you’re another person. (2026•江苏徐州月考)The sun shone brightly over the playground as our school’s annual sports meeting kicked off.All students were excited — especially Jack.He had trained for months for the 1500-meter race, 41 to win the first prize and break the school 42 . That afternoon, Jack was attempting to jump over a low wooden fence at the park when disaster struck. As he lifted the board to clear the fence, the front wheels caught the edge.Jack fell hard on his side, and worse, when he picked up the board, he saw one wheel had completely come off. Jack’s stomach dropped.Amanda would be angry. He quickly gathered all the pieces and texted Melissa, his most sensible friend, to meet him at the park bench.Melissa arrived ten minutes later, her eyebrows shooting up when she saw the damage.“Wow, you really messed up Amanda’s board.” “I know!” Jack groaned.“What should I do?” “Tell her immediately,” Melissa advised.“The longer you wait, the angrier she’ll be.” With shaking hands, Jack called Amanda. When he explained what happened, there was a long silence before Amanda spoke in a tight voice, “That’s my little brother’s skateboard. He has his first competition next Saturday!” Jack felt terrible.Amanda’s 12-year-old brother Tim had been practicing for months, dreaming of holding that first-place trophy (奖杯).This competition meant everything to him. After another pause, Amanda sighed,“It’s okay, accidents will happen. We’ll figure it out together.” Her voice softened, easing Jack’s guilt a little. “I’ll fix it,” Jack promised.“Just ...don’t have money for a new one.” After school, Jack and Amanda searched online and found a small repair shop across town. I can’t tell what road this is. W:We’re heading for the US, but we’re still in Canada. And we’re quite a long distance from Mexico. (Text 2) W:What a fine day! Shall we go hiking this early spring morning? M:Mom won’t let us. We have to take care of little Jenny after we finish our homework. (Text 3) W:Dad, I want to be a nurse when I grow up. M:A nurse? Your aunt has been a nurse for 20 years and she loves it. When your grandma wasn’t well, she knew how to take care of her. (Text 4) W:I need to return these books today. Do you want to come with me? M:No. The downtown library doesn’t open on Sundays. I’d rather go tomorrow so I can check some new books for myself. (Text 5) W:That is a beautiful painting, Jerry! Where did you buy it? M:Actually, I made it. I’ve been taking art classes for the past year. W:Really? That’s amazing! I had no idea you were so talented. This looks like it was painted by a professional. (Text 6) M:Check out my pet! He is a German shepherd. W:Aw! He’s so cute! What’s his name? M:I named him Luke after my favourite movie character, Luke Skywalker. W:Great name! I am surprised you didn’t name him Harry after your favourite book character. M:He’s really fast, and that’s why I named him Luke. If I had an older dog, I would name him Yoda. W:How old is he? M:Only four months old. (Text 7) W:Bye! Have a nice night. You won’t play loud music, will you? You know I don’t like parties in my house. M:Oh no, Mrs White! Only Mozart, and maybe Vivaldi. W:And of course no alcoholic drinks either! M:No, certainly not. Only Coca-Cola. W:Good, well, I won’t be back tonight. I’m staying with my cousin. He’s moving to Japan this Sunday. Goodbye, boys! M:See you in the morning, Mrs White! W:By the way, everybody must go home at 11 o’clock. M:Oh, all right, bye. (Text 8) W:Professor, could you give me some suggestions about how to introduce myself before giving a speech? M:OK. First, greet the audience and then state your name. As you say hello and give your name, remember to speak clearly and confidently. W:Should I speak as loudly as possible? M:Not exactly. It depends on the environment and the audience. You just need to make sure that your voice is loud enough to enable everyone to hear you. W:Thanks. And next? M:Share some relevant information about yourself. The sort of information you share will depend on the audience and what you’ll be talking about. W:I understand. M:And then, before you start the speech, thank your audience for being there. W:Thank you very much. I have learned a lot from you. (Text 9) W:May I help you? M:Yes, madam. I’d like to buy some flowers. W:Do you want to give them to your girlfriend? M:No, to my wife. God knows that ladies like flowers. W:Today is Valentine’s Day. That must be why you want them. Just one day of the year. M:Not exactly. I get them for her birthday, and for all kinds of weird anniversaries. W:But not on April Fool’s Day, right? M:Ha ha, right. Oh, and by the way, I want some more for my mother. Tomorrow is her birthday. W:How about these? Purple seems popular with mothers. M:Not with mine. Do you have any other colour? W:How about blue or these green ones? They are fresh and bright. M:All right! I will take these green ones and go to the supermarket for some chocolate. W:There is one just across from the bookstore. Here you are! Please come again. M:Thanks! Bye! (Text 10) W:Have you all heard about the White House? Today we’re going to talk about the building that symbolizes the USA. Mr Green, please. M:The White House is one of the most recognizable structures in the world. You can’t say you’ve been to Washington D.C. if you haven’t seen the White House. Not every American president lives there. Though the Executive Mansion was begun in 1792 under the direction of George Washington, the structure was not completed until 1800, so ironically Washington never called it home. The White House is open to the public on weekdays from 10 a.m. until noon. The building was torched by British troops in 1814, during the War of 1812, and the structural damage caused by the fire was repaired, but the sandstone walls outside were still black from the fire. The walls were then painted white, giving birth to the name the building now goes by. An act of Congress made it the official name in 1920. Every President has left his mark upon the White House, with Thomas Jefferson adding grass to the east and west wings, Andrew Jackson installing running water, and Harry Truman adding a porch. Bill Clinton’s addition to the White House was an indoor track. However, they soon agree ...to fight their best friend. It works with schools...to get students engaged. Thoreau criticizes society’s tendency ...much more widespread and deadly? 43.A 根据空前的the starting gun以及空后的Jack rushed forward and soon took the lead可知,杰克出发了,这说明发令枪响了。 46.A 根据下句中的expecting Tim to speed past him and take the lead可知,蒂姆是杰克的比赛对手。 47.C 根据空后的expecting Tim to speed past him and take the lead可知,心里想着蒂姆会超越他并领先,杰克紧张起来。 Jack quickly knelt down, tied his lace, and got back on his可知,杰克先是弯腰,然后系鞋带,最后重新站了起来。 50.A 根据空后的the finish line first可知,蒂姆率先冲过了终点线。 You taught me something more important than winning. We should race fair and square! 54.D 根据上句中的what makes sports truly meaningful以及空后的of sports isn’t just about being the fastest or the strongest可知,体育运动的真正精髓并不仅仅在于谁跑得最快或谁力量最强。 This was the first time that ... 故填where。 故填from。 固定句型It is expected that ... 故填is expected。 Exercise an Hour Every Day, Healthy Life for a Lifetime Having sports has become a growing trend in today’s society. The theme makes perfect sense. In modern life, people are often busy with work or study, leading to a lack of physical activity.Regular exercise can improve our physical condition and prevent various diseases.Just an hour of exercise a day can bring long-term health benefits.
