It was the last minute of the 2022 Beijing Marathon. But 86-year-old Zhang Shun was still about 100 meters from the finishing line. People watched him move slowly. All of them held their breath. Would he make it?
Zhang felt confident before the race. But he had a stomachache on the way. This made him fall behind. “Shall I take a rest or stop?” he thought. Either choice seemed fine for someone at his age. But Zhang chose neither of them. He just ran on. With people cheering he finally crossed the finishing line!
Marathon running is Zhang’s lifelong dream. “In 1989, I saw Beijing Marathon runners go past my home. I just wanted to become one of them,” he said. For years, he trained every morning in the park. He filled over 30 notebooks with his running records. None of his family members worried or tried to stop him. They knew he enjoyed every moment.

It’s not easy to advertise a thing everyone knows in a new way. But Pippi’s Place Pet Rescue, a volunteer organization (志愿组织) from America, makes it. It was named after a black cat, Pippi. She was a street cat and then found a loving family. But at two years old, Pippi was hit by a car and died. Pippi’s Place Pet Rescue then came into being. The organization runs not for money, but for helping more street cats find a home. How does it do this?
Well, it shows their cats as if they were cars. On its website, people can learn about the cats’ age, color and other information. Kayla Delcoure, a member of the organization, had this idea when her family was thinking about buying a car. This is really helpful. Lots of people become interested in these cats. Some people give money to help these cats live better. A man from Canada came to take an old cat home from the organization.
People give these cats a home, and the cats help make people happy, too. A little girl gets a cat from the organization. She sleeps with it every night. This makes her feel safe and warm. A woman sees her cat as a good friend. The “friend” always walks behind her and makes her laugh. Do you want to take a cat from the organization? Well, before doing it, you’d better learn more about keeping a cat as a pet.
27. Where did Pippi’s Place Pet Rescue get its name?
A. From a family. B. From a website.
C. From a black cat. D. From an advertisement.
28. Which of the following has the same meaning as the underlined word “run” in Paragraph 1?

29. Why does the writer give an example of a little girl in the last paragraph?
A. To show that people and pets are good friends.
B. To show that more and more people keep a cat as a pet.
C. To show that Pippi’s Place Pet Rescue is helpful to cats.
D. To show that cats can help make people warm and happy.

【原文】Hi, I’m Lucy. I’ll share my summer holiday with you.
This summer I went to Australia for a visit. My Australian friends picked me up at the airport. I spent about twelve hours traveling from my hometown to Sydney. I feel the flight went quite fast as I watched some films on it. The country is truly beautiful. Full of wonderful views, there were many kinds of animals in the nature park. I got the chance to get close to the lovely animals. I learned lots of facts about koalas in the museum. Do you know they can sleep for up to twenty two hours a day to save energy? That’s a very long time. There was also a snake show but I didn’t get close because I’m afraid of snakes. On the last day of my visit I went to the seaside, the water was quite clear and blue. I took a lot of beautiful pictures.
I will never forget the journey.
