D。 B High school ended and all I remembered was feeling stuck. Most of my peers (同龄人) had picked out their majors and some even planned their careers. But I was still wondering about that. I’ve always enjoyed writing but didn’t know how to make a career out of it. After researching my options, such as journalism, I thought Professional Communications could improve my writing skills and lead me to a career in business. With that, I sent in my application, was accepted and started preparing for my first term of university. When course intentions rolled around, I began looking at the list of minors. Marketing caught my attention. It would complement (补充) my communications degree while providing me with the necessary business courses that were outside of the program. Without hesitation, I scheduled marketing into my studies, with the goal of using that newfound knowledge to accompany the technical skills that my major would provide me with. My school year began in a pretty typical way: the orientation week (迎新周), joining clubs and meeting new people. As time went on, I found myself enjoying the marketing courses more than the communications courses, and it was then that I first began to consider making a change. Finally, I spoke with a friend who had switched to a different major, and his words of encouragement were the final push I needed to go through with the decision. A few days later, I sent in my application, and soon I received my acceptance letter. I’ve now been gifted with a wonderful start to the year, and I couldn’t be happier about making the change. I feel less pressured to “find myself” and can put 110% effort into my studies. A note to high school students: University brings with it a load of new beginnings and self-reflection. It’s perfectly fine to come into university thinking you want one thing and finding out along the way that it might not be the right path for you. 4. Why was the author at a loss after high school? A. She suffered from a lack of confidence. B. She fell behind her peers in performance. C. She was afraid to choose a wrong university. D. She struggled to decide a future direction. 5. Which aspect of marketing attracted the author? A. Its business courses. B. Its exciting career opportunities. C. Its stress on technical skills. D. Its courses related to writing. 6. What led the author to think about changing her major? A. The active encouragement from a friend. B. Reduced interest in communications. C. The growing passion for marketing courses. D. Access to numerous new opportunities. 7. What does the author advise high school students to do? A. Think twice about major selection. B. Be open to changing academic paths. C. Concentrate all their efforts on study. D Engage in self-reflection consistently. D 5. A 6. C 7. 根据第一段中的“High school ended and all I remembered was feeling stuck. Most of my peers (同龄人) had picked out their majors and some even planned their careers. But I was still wondering about that. 根据第三段中的“It would complement (补充) my communications degree while providing me with the necessary business courses that were outside of the program. Without hesitation, I scheduled marketing into my studies, with the goal of using that newfound knowledge to accompany the technical skills that my major would provide me with. 故选A项。 根据倒数第二段中的“As time went on, I found myself enjoying the marketing courses more than the communications courses, and it was then that I first began to consider making a change. 根据最后一段中的“It’s perfectly fine to come into university thinking you want one thing and finding out along the way that it might not be the right path for you. C Microplastics are found nearly everywhere on Earth and can be harmful to animals if they’re taken in. But it’s hard to remove such tiny particles (微粒) from the environment, especially once they settle into corners and cracks at the bottom of waterways. Now, researchers in ACS’ Nano Letters have created a light-activated fish robot that “swims” around quickly, picking up and removing microplastics from the environment. Because microplastics can fall into cracks, they’ve been hard to remove from water environments. One solution that has been proposed is using small, flexible (柔韧的), and self-propelled robots to reach these pollutants and clean them up. But the traditional materials used for soft robots can be damaged easily in water environments. Another material called mother-of-pearl, also known as nacre, is strong and flexible, and is found on the inside surface of shells. Inspired by this natural substance, Xinxing Zhang and his colleagues wanted to try a similar type of gradient structure to create a durable (耐用的) and bendable material for soft robots. Using the material, the researchers have created a fish robot that could move 2.67 body lengths per second — a speed that’s faster than previously reported for other soft swimming robots. The researchers showed that the swimming fish robot could repeatedly take in nearby microplastics and transport them elsewhere. The material could also recover itself after being cut, still keeping its ability to take in microplastics. Because of the durability and speed of the fish robot, the researchers say that it could be used for monitoring microplastics and other pollutants in tough water environments. 8. Why are microplastics hard to remove? A. Because they are hard to find. B. Because there are no tools to use. C. Because they are in large quantities. D. Because they are too small and hide in corners and cracks. 9. Which is a disadvantage of traditional materials? A. Difficult to store. B. Rare to find. C. Easy to damage. D. Expensive to produce. 10. What mainly makes the fish robot suitable for monitoring microplastics? A. Its durability. B. Its size. C. Its weight. D. Its shape. 11. Where is the text likely from? A. A fiction. B. A magazine. C. A film. D. A diary. D 9. C 10. A 11. 根据第一段中“But it’s hard to remove such tiny particles (微粒) from the environment, especially once they settle into corners and cracks at the bottom of waterways. 根据第二段中“But the traditional materials used for soft robots can be damaged easily in water environments. 根据最后一段“The material could also recover itself after being cut, still keeping its ability to take in microplastics. Because of the durability and speed of the fish robot, the researchers say that it could be used for monitoring microplastics and other pollutants in tough water environments. 故选A项。 通读全文,尤其是第一段中“Now, researchers in ACS’ Nano Letters have created a light-activated fish robot that “swims” around quickly, picking up and removing microplastics from the environment. D Parkinson’s is a progressive brain disease which leads to shaky hands and slow movement, and there is no cure. Tai Chi, a traditional Chinese martial art that combines (结合) slow, gentle movements with deep breathing and relaxation, may be an effective means of reducing the suffering. Recently, the researchers say that those who practiced the martial art twice a week had fewer complications (并发症) and better quality of life than those who didn’t. Experts say the findings back up previous studies on the benefits of exercise for those with Parkinson’s. The study, from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, monitored the health of hundreds of Parkinson’s patients for up to five years. One group of 147 people practiced regular Tai Chi while another group of 187 did not. The researchers found that the disease progressed more slowly in the Tai Chi group on measurements of symptoms (症状), movement and balance. This group also saw fewer falls, less back pain and dizziness, with memory and concentration problems also lower than in the other group. At the same time, sleep and quality of life continuously improved. Prof. Alastair Noyce, professor in neurology and neuroepidemiology (神经流行病学) at Queen Mary University of London, called it “an important study” - the positive effects on aspects of motor (运动的) and non-motor functions are striking. However, researchers also pointed out that the number of participants in the study was relatively small, and further research is needed. “We already recommend Tai Chi, as well as other forms of exercise, but understanding which forms of exercise are most beneficial is an important goal to improve the long-term management of patients,” he said. 12. Why was the study conducted? A. To remove the misunderstanding of the previous studies. B. To research the benefits of Tai Chi for those with Parkinson’s. C. To find a cure for Parkinson’s disease. D. To improve the sleep quality of Parkinson’s patients. 13. Which of the following is a finding of the researchers? A. The concentration level was lower in the Tai Chi group. B. Patients in the non-Tai Chi group seldom fell down. C. The disease progressed more slowly in the Tai Chi group. D. Back pain and dizziness were relieved in the non-Tai group. 14. What does the underlined word “striking” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Disappointing. B. Demanding. C. Challenging. D. Amazing. 15. What can we learn from Prof. Alastair Noyce’s words? A. It is unnecessary to do more related studies. B. It’s impossible to improve the long-term management of patients. C. Tai Chi should be given more preference. D. Finding the most beneficial exercise is of importance. B 13. C 14. D 15. 根据文章第一段“Tai Chi, a traditional Chinese martial art that combines (结合) slow, gentle movements with deep breathing and relaxation, may be an effective means of reducing the suffering. Recently, the researchers say that those who practiced the martial art twice a week had fewer complications (并发症) and better quality of life than those who didn’t. Experts say the findings back up previous studies on the benefits of exercise for those with Parkinson’s. 根据文章第二段“The researchers found that the disease progressed more slowly in the Tai Chi group on measurements of symptoms (症状), movement and balance. Alastair Noyce, professor in neurology and neuroepidemiology(神经流行病学) at Queen Mary University of London, called it “an important study”— the positive effects on aspects of motor(运动的) and non-motor functions are striking. 根据文章最后一段““We already recommend Tai Chi, as well as other forms of exercise, but understanding which forms of exercise are most beneficial is an important goal to improve the long-term management of patients,” he said. How to Be Who You Want to Be Learning to be comfortable with yourself can be hard, and you might wish to be someone different. I’ll treat you today,” said the man. “Come in.” The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, whose smell was so attractive. As she was eating, Lucy cried silently. “What is it?” asked the man kindly. “Nothing, actually I was just touched by your kindness!” said Lucy. “Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl noodles, while my mother drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is so merciless compared to a stranger!” Hearing the words, the seller smiled, “Girl, do you really think so? I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thank me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were baby. Can you remember the times she cooked for you? Have you expressed your gratitude to her?” Lucy sat there speechless and numb with shock; she remembered mother’s familiar face and weathered hands. “Why did I not think of that? What led the author to think about changing her major? A. The active encouragement from a friend. B. Reduced interest in communications. C. The growing passion for marketing courses. D. Access to numerous new opportunities. 7. What does the author advise high school students to do? A. Think twice about major selection. B. Be open to changing academic paths. C. Concentrate all their efforts on study. D. Engage in self-reflection consistently. A. A fiction. B. A magazine. C. A film. D. A diary. 14 What does the underlined word “striking” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Disappointing. B. Demanding. C. Challenging. D. Amazing. 15. What can we learn from Prof. Alastair Noyce’s words? A. It is unnecessary to do more related studies. B. It’s impossible to improve the long-term management of patients. C. However, with no money in hand. She sighed and had to leave. The seller behind the stand, noticed the young girl and asked, “Hey, girl, you want to have the noodles?” “Oh yes... but I don’t have money on me” she replied. “That’s nothing.
