Foxes have excellent hearing. They can hear sounds as quiet as a watch ticking from 30 meters away! This is like hearing someone whisper from across a playground. In addition to their great hearing, foxes can run very fast. They can reach speeds of up to 30 miles per hour, which is quite impressive.
Foxes are carnivores, meaning they mainly eat meat. However, they also enjoy berries from bushes and will often search through rubbish bins for leftovers. Baby foxes, called kits, drink milk from their mothers before they start eating other foods like worms. Foxes are also known to hide food to eat later.
Foxes can be found in various habitats. They live in dens in the countryside with other foxes, but they also make their homes in towns and cities. You might see one if you are out on a dark night.

China’s Beijing Library was named Public Library of the Year at an awards ceremony on 7 October in Barcelona, Spain. The library was one of four finalists in the annual competition, which is judged by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA). The IFLA judges said the Beijing Library had a “surprising factor”. They praised the way the building’s design connects books, people, and nature, and were also pleased with how eco-friendly it is, which means it causes little or no damage to the environment and is made to last a long time.
The library, which opened in December 2023, was designed by builders from China and Norway. It houses the world’s largest temperature-controlled reading space, which is 75,000 square meters. It has huge windows and tall columns topped with flat panels, which are shaped to look like the leaves of a ginkgo tree—the national tree of China. The building can collect rainwater to reuse and has solar panels built into its roof so that it can create energy from the sun.
Inside and outside the library are rounded terraces (different levels), which are designed to fit in with the hills and valleys of the surrounding area. The judges said the library “shows its connection to the environment through its nature-based design”.

He reached the top of Mount Shishapangma in China’s Xizang region early in the morning at 6:05 AM local time, with Mount Shishapangma standing at 8.027 meters high.

①Take a moment to pay attention to your body. Notice your breathing—is it fast, slow, or somewhere in between? Are your thoughts racing, or are you focused on what you are reading? These feelings are signals from your body and brain, showing how you feel right now.
②So, where do feelings come from? According to Ekta Hattangady, a counselor, feelings start in our brains but also show up in our bodies. For example, when we are happy, we smile. If we are surprised, we might feel tightness in our throat or chest. When we are scared, our breathing can become quick and shallow.
③Understanding why feelings are important and necessary. Hattangady explains that emotions (情感) give us signs about what we need. For example, feeling angry might mean something is unfair and needs to be fixed. If you feel sad, it could mean you need comfort or time to fix. Recognizing and naming your feelings is called emotional awareness (意识), which is an important part of growing up. This awareness helps you talk about your feelings and ask for help when needed.
④Emotions can be seen as messengers. In the movie “Inside Out”, the characters in 13-year-old Riley’s mind are the signs of her feelings. As Riley faces big changes, these feelings take charge. Joy, fear, and sadness all play important roles when she starts a new school and worries about losing friends. Riley learns that all feelings are normal and have important jobs in our lives.
⑤To build emotional awareness, try to notice how you feel throughout your day. Hattangady suggests that feelings come and go. By learning to notice them without letting them control you, we can stay calm and make better choices.
⑥In a word, recognizing and understanding our feelings is important for our emotional health. By paying attention to our feelings, we can better deal with our emotions and reply to our needs.
36. Why is it important to recognize our feelings?
A. Because it makes us feel much happier.
B. Because it allows us to understand our needs.
C. Because it helps us to avoid many problems.
D. Because it helps us pay no attention to our emotions.
37. How does the writer explain the idea of emotional awareness?
A. By providing examples from movies B. By explaining the effects of emotions
C. By sharing personal experiences D. By listing different types of feelings
38. Which of the following best matches the information in the passage?
A. All feelings are negative and harmful.
B. Emotional awareness is only for children.
C. Emotions can guide us in making choices.
D. Feelings are unimportant and should be ignored.
39. Which of the following shows the structure of this passage?
A. B.
C. D.

The Spring Festival in My Eyes
Chinese people have been celebrating the Spring Festival for centuries. In the old days, we used to set off fireworks and watch the Spring Festival Gala on TV. But now, things are different. We don’t set off fireworks much anymore because we want to protect the environment. Instead, we play games on our phones and chat with our family and friends online.
The food we eat during the Spring Festival has also changed. We still eat dumplings and fish, which are symbols of good luck, but we also try different kinds of food from all over the world.
I think these changes show how our lives are getting better and more colorful. Even though some old ways are gone, I like the new ways because they make the Spring Festival more fun and interesting. It’s a time to remember our traditions and also to enjoy the new things that come with the modern world.
