At age 3, she lost her right leg in a traffic accident, and later, during high school, suffered from serious hydronephrosis Despite these challenges, Wang entered Wuhan University of Biotechnology in 2019 to study Business English. She lived her school life with walking sticks, competing for and winning the position of an assistant in her class, impressing others with her positive energy. “She never complains (抱怨) about her challenges or disability,” said a close friend. The long run of walking sticks using led to scoliosis (脊柱侧凸), but hope came when a classmate got news about a prosthetic leg (假肢). Despite the high cost, her family managed to raise the funds. After a period of adaptation and many falls, Wang successfully got used to her prosthetic leg. The university supported Wang by offering her a sunnier dorm and aiding her in applying for scholarships. Despite her condition, Wang devoted herself to volunteering and taking part in community service, adding up to over 400 hours of service. “I’ve received so much help, and I want to give back,” she said. Wang was excellent, graduating with high scores and passing the postgraduate entrance exam, although she was first accepted to a junior college course, known as Zhuanke in Chinese. She chose to run after graduate studies in Marxism at Hubei Minzu University, “My experience of volunteering has shown me that this major can help me better serve society and realize my value in the future,” explained Wang. She believed it would help her serve society better. “With all help and company I have, I face the unknown journey ahead without fear,” Wang said, having overcome many difficulties in life. 4. What does the underlined word “bumps” in Para 1 probably mean? A. Failures. B. Adventures. C. Hardships. D. Weaknesses. 5. What can we know about Wang Guihong? A. She was born without her right leg. B. She got a lot of help from others. C. She got used to her prosthetic leg easily. D. She often complained about her disability. 6. Which of the following can best describe Wang Guihong? A. Positive and caring. B. Brave and curious. C. Responsible and honest. D. Wise and generous. 7. What lesson does the author want to teach? A. Well begun is half done. B. Where there is a will, there is a way. C. Failure is the mother of success. D. Facts speak louder than words. C That first cold spell of the autumn always feels especially unpleasant. If you’ve ever wondered whether you were overreacting to those cold early autumn days with so many clothes on, take comfort. It may not just be in your head: The human body takes time to get used to the cold. “We get a global reaction over time in winter so that a 10℃ day in, say, February, feels great, while at this time of year it feels cold,” said John Castellani, a cold weather expert. Some experts argue that the change in perception (感知) is mostly psychological (心理的). Others, including Dr. Castellani, say there’s more to it: The study suggests that the body grows to stand the cold over time. People feel temperature differently for many reasons. Larger people lose more heat because they have more surface area. Those with more fat lose less heat because fat keeps them warm. Older people might find the cold harder to stand. Our minds and behaviors also play a role. We protect ourselves by dressing warmly and heating our homes, which reduce the cold’s effects. When it gets cold, our skin sensors send information to our hypothalamus (下丘脑). To keep our core temperature safe, the hypothalamus might make our blood vessels (血管) constrict (收缩) or make us shake to create heat. Over time, though, those reactions can change. Studies of people throughout the world have found those frequently living in the cold simply begin to stand it more. Local populations in the Arctic (北极区), for example, have been found to have a less noticeable reaction to the cold than those not affected by the same conditions. That explains how a person in a cool climate might adapt to winter over time. “We experience that cold air on our face all winter long, and we’ve been used to it.” Dr. Castellani said. That’s why a cold day in October feels much colder than that same temperature in February. 8. Why does the author share the common feelings of cold in paragraph 1? A. To introduce the topic. B. To compare different feelings. C. To challenge the expert’s opinion. D. To add background knowledge. 9. What are paragraph 3 and paragraph 4 mainly about? A. How fat people keep warm. B. How the brain works to feel cold. C. Why larger people lose more heat. D. Why people feel temperature differently. 10. What can we infer from the text? A. Arctic locals are born to stand cold. B. Feeling about cold is only psychological. C. The human body adapts to cold over time. D. Home heating has no effect on cold perception. 11. Where is the passage probably taken from? A A textbook. B. A brochure. C. A magazine. D. An advertisement. D Misophonia (恐音症) is a condition where specific sounds, such as chewing or pen clicking, can cause extreme emotional and physical reactions, including increased heart rate and blood pressure. Misophonia is more common than many realize. Our study shows that nearly one in five adults in the UK may have it. To conduct our study, we carried out a survey with 772 British people in different age and sex. Our survey included 25 statements. For example, one was “If I can’t avoid certain sounds, I feel helpless.” Participants (参加者) were asked to rate how true each statement was for them on a rating from zero to ten(ten being very true), choosing their typical emotional reaction to a list of 37 common trigger (触发) sounds. We found that around 18% of our participants likely had misophonia. There was no big difference between men and women in the prevalence (患病率) of the condition. However age seemed to play a role, with older people reporting less serious reactions. Surprisingly, just under 14% of our participants were familiar with the term misophonia, suggesting many people who experience intense reactions to sounds might not yet know the term to describe their condition. It is important to note that finding certain sounds annoying does not necessarily mean you have misophonia. Our study showed that 85% of people find sounds like chewing, and dogs barking repeatedly to be annoying. It is the nature of how a person reacts to such sounds that determines if they have misophonia. Misophonia was first recognized in 2001 but was not officially regarded as a disorder until 2022. No wonder that many people — even those seriously affected by misophonia — are unaware of it. While there is no sign of a cure in sight, researchers hope that their study may provide some comfort for people who thought they were alone in their extreme reactions to everyday sounds. They also hope the study will raise awareness of the condition so that people with misophonia can get the help they need. 12. How did researchers conduct the study? A. By making a survey. B. By tracking participants. C. By making an experiment. D. By referring to related researches. 13. We determine a man has misophonia by ______. A. his reaction to certain sounds. B. his opinion of certain sounds. C. his feeling about certain sounds. D. his preference for certain sounds. 14. What is the researchers’ attitude towards the future cure of misophonia? A. Unconcerned. B. Disappointed. C. Hopeful. D. Grateful. 15. Which is the best title of the passage? A. Misophonia: A Well-known Disorder. B. Misophonia: A Newly-discovered Condition. C. Misophonia: A Hidden but Dangerous Disorder. D. Misophonia: A Common Yet Unfamiliar Condition. How to be curious Children are known for their curiosity. Her mother, a strict woman with high expectations, always required her to focus on her studies. Music was a luxury they couldn’t afford, she’d say. “Emily, you need to stop this daydreaming and concentrate on your math,” her mother would demand, with a serious look on her face. Emily’s heart would sink at her mother’s words. One day, Emily gathered the courage to play a piece she had created for her mother. Her fingers shook as she began, pouring her soul into every note. “Mom, I want you to hear this,” Emily said in a low voice. Her mother, buried in her work, hardly looked up. “Can it wait, dear? I’m quite busy.” Emily’s fingers froze on the keys, her heart aching with her mother’s words. She wanted to shout, to make her mother understand the importance of music in her life, but the words caught in her throat. Instead, she quietly closed the piano lid and returned to her room, her unappreciated song echoing (回响) in her mind. That night, as Emily lay in bed, the silence was deafening, and her tears rolled down. She felt alone, with her dreams being a secret in her heart. The next morning, she awoke to the sound of her mother’s soft knock on the door. The door cracked open, and Emily’s mother stood there silently. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Tears of understanding and hope welled up in Emily’s eyes. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 湖北省部分市州2024年秋季高一年级期末质量监测 英语 全卷满分150分。 How much is the shirt? A. A textbook. B. A brochure. C. A magazine. D. An advertisement. 8. A 9. D 10. C 11. Older people might find the cold harder to stand.(人们对温度的感觉有很多不同的原因。 老年人可能会觉得难以忍受寒冷)”以及第四段“Our minds and behaviors also play a role. We protect ourselves by dressing warmly and heating our homes, which reduce the cold’s effects. When it gets cold, our skin sensors send information to our hypothalamus (下丘脑). To keep our core temperature safe, the hypothalamus might make our blood vessels (血管) constrict (收缩) or make us shake to create heat.(我们的思想和行为也起着作用。 根据倒数第二段“Over time, though, those reactions can change. However, age seemed to play a role, with older people reporting less serious reactions. 12. A 13. A 14. C 15. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 The door cracked open, and Emily’s mother stood there silently. Her face was soft with concern, a rare expression that Emily hadn’t seen in a long time. “Emily, honey, I heard you playing last night,” her mother began, her voice tinged with regret. “I realize now that I haven’t been supportive enough of your passion for music. You’ve always loved it so much, and I see that it means the world to you. I was wrong to dismiss it as a luxury. It’s a part of you, and I should have encouraged it.” Tears of understanding and hope welled up in Emily’s eyes. She felt a weight lift off her chest, a release from the silence and solitude she had been enduring. “Mom, thank you,” she whispered, her voice trembling with emotion. “I didn’t mean to make you feel bad. I just wanted you to understand. Music is my escape, my way of expressing myself when words fail me. I love studying, but without music, I feel incomplete.” Her mother nodded, tears in her own eyes, and embraced Emily tightly. From that day on, Emily’s mother became her biggest supporter, attending every recital and encouraging her to chase her dreams with unwavering belief. 词汇激活 行为类 ①拥抱:embrace/hug ②鼓励:encourage/hearten ③意识到:realize/be aware of 情绪类 ①担忧:concern/worry ②孤独:solitude/loneliness 【点睛】[高分句型1] You’ve always loved it so much, and I see that it means the world to you.
