通常会以 wh - 问题的形式出现,如 what、who、where、when、why、how 等。

例如,题目问 “According to the passage, what was the main cause of the French Revolution?”,你可以在文章中寻找有关法国大革命原因的段落,可能会找到 “the heavy tax burden on the third estate” 等内容作为答案。

(24-25高二上·河北张家口·期末)Mention the 1970s and most people will have an opinion. It was mixed up with memories of strikes, power cuts and bombs in London. Go deeper and there were plenty of pubs, televisions limited to three channels, and cinema chains that often changed their programs twice weekly, or had late night screenings. Best of all, though, was live music.
Every town had its established site for touring bands but London enjoyed a large number of smaller locations that hosted rock, folk or jazz acts several nights a week. Many of these were Irish owned or managed, and part of a tradition where providing live music was part and parcel (主要) of running a pub. In fact, there were an awful lot of bands and singers you could see on a regular basis within 25 miles of London. Even better, you can go to many of the smaller sites for free.
The concentration of so much of this in such a small geographical area was a comparatively recent development and can be traced to the impact the 1973 oil price hike had on the record industry.
Against the background of the strikes and power cuts that everyone experienced, would-be rock stars found that touring up and down the UK in a truck and breakfast suddenly became expensive. It was hardly surprising that bands concentrated on sites closer to home to lower travel and accommodation costs.
There were other factors at work too. It’s worth remembering that the London of the 1970s was a city with a steadily decreasing population. There were many empty houses as well as local authority flats that were “hard to let”, and commercial space too, which meant plenty of recording and rehearsing (排练) studios.

A.To introduce the topic of discussion. B.To reveal the setting of a story.
C.To explain a phenomenon in question, D.To provide evidence for a point of view.

A.Each town had its own music band. B.Irish jazz music was the most popular.
C.Music styles varied from area to area. D.Live music was performed in many pubs.
3.Why did many bands in the 1970s choose sites closer to their homes?
A.To reduce travel and accommodation costs. B.To contribute to local entertainment industry.

4.What is the best title for the text?
A.The History of Live Music B.Live Music and the 1973 Oil Hike

(22-23高二上·四川绵阳·开学考试)It’s not easy being a teenager—nor is it easy being the parent of a teenager. You can make your child feel angry, hurt or misunderstood by what you say without realizing it yourself. It is important to give your child the space he needs to grow while gently letting him know that you’ll still be there for him when he needs you.
Expect a lot from your child, just not everything. Except for health and safety problems, such as drug use or careless driving, consider everything else open to discussion. If your child is unwilling to discuss something, don’t insist he should tell you what’s on his mind. The more you insist, the more likely that he’ll clam up. Instead, let him attempt to solve things by himself. At the same time, remind him that you’re always there for him, should he look for advice or help. Show respect for your teenager’s privacy. Never read his mail or listen to personal conversations.
Teach your teenager that the family phone is for the whole family. If your child talks on the family’s telephone for too long, tell him he can talk for l5 minutes, but then he must stay off the phone for at least an equal period of time. This not only frees up the line so that other family members can make and receive calls, but teaches your teenager moderation (节制). Or if you are open to the idea, allow your teenager his own phone that he pays for with his own pocket money or a part-time job.

A.Schooling. B.Parenting. C.House-keeping. D.Friend-making.

7.By limiting their phoning time, the children are expected to learn to_____.

8.What’s the message for parents from this text?
A.Watch their children closely all the time.
B.Leave their children completely alone.
C.Give their children enough freedom.
D.Work together with the school.

(湖南省郴州市2024-2025学年高二上学期期末英语试卷)Dala horses, the brightly painted wooden horses, with their complex patterns, come from the Dalarna region and date back to the 1600s. Originally carved as toys, they gradually became the symbols of Swedish tradition over time.
That was my first learning about Dala horses from a book on Swedish culture. While I didn’t fully understand the deeper meaning at that time, I was immediately drawn to their charm and uniqueness. When I was younger, I remember how excited I was when my parents took me to a craft workshop. I had seen these colorful horses in many places — on postcards, at the zoo and even in shops. But this time, I was going to create one myself.
The process was so much fun! First, we started with a small wooden block. We used carving tools to carefully shape the wood into a horse. It was a bit tricky at first, and my hands were so shaky, but as I kept carving, the shape of the horse slowly started to appear. Once we were done carving, it was time to paint! I felt like an artist as I painted tiny flowers and swirls (旋涡) on its body. My horse was not perfect, but it felt like a masterpiece to me!
I still remember how proud I felt holding the finished horse. Its patterns, painted in bright red, blue and yellow, looked like the Dala horses I had seen before. My parents told me that the colors and designs meant something special, and I could tell this little wooden horse had a bigger meaning than just being a decoration.
Years later, I still have that Dala horse in my room. It’s a reminder of that wonderful day and my connection to Swedish traditions. The Dala horse is more than a piece of art — it’s a symbol of history, culture, and cherished memories.
9.Which is the true statement about the Dala horse?
A.It was originally used as a decoration.
B.It came from the Swedish region of Dalarna.
C.It originated from a famous book in Swedish culture.
D.It is a modern invention inspired by traditional wooden toys.
10.How did the author feel when he first learned about the Dala horse?
A.Indifferent. B.Confused. C.Fascinated. D.Skeptical.
11.Why did the author like his Dala horse so much?
A.His parents spoke highly of his remarkable carving skills.
B.It served as a reminder of his bond with Swedish traditions.
C.It approached an ideal state of perfection in form and detail.
D.It exhibited a remarkable similarity to the ones on postcards.
12.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Dala Horses: Carved from happiness
B.Dala Horses: A Swedish Artistic Wonder
C.Discovering the Beauty of Dala Horses’ Patterns
D.The History and Making of Dala Horses in Sweden

(24-25高三上·广西·阶段练习)“Travel is the body on the road, while reading is the mind on the road. Both offer a way to satisfy our boundless curiosity,” said Ye Zi, a scholar, on the Chinese TV show I Read Books on an Island Season 3. Following two successful seasons, the reality show began airing its third season on Oct 17. It features some of China’s most celebrated writers, such as Yu Hua and Su Tong, who discuss their favorite literature on the show.
While the last two seasons were set on islands in southern China, the third season sees the group of writers travel to Crete, the largest island in Greece and the cradle of European civilization. “Following these writers, the audience can experience the cultural exchanges between China and the West. We hope that the show can enable great literature from China and abroad to reach a wider audience,” Li Li, a producer of the show, told China Youth Daily.
The show highlights how literature serves as a bridge connecting diverse cultures. When the group of writers saw a beautiful sunrise on Crete, they talked about how famous authors from China and the West wrote about sunrise. Despite their different cultural origins, these literary giants found common ground in nature’s beauty as a muse. Yu Hua also reflected on the difference between Chinese and Western literary tradition, saying that the sun often symbolizes love in Western literature, while for Chinese writers, the moon stands for love.
“Greece used to exist only in my imagination and the books I read. Setting foot in the country brought all my imagination to life,” Su Tong shared in the first episode of the show with excitement. As he wandered around historical sites in Crete, he established a real connection with the wonders of Greek literature. This demonstrates the close relationship between travel and literature. Places mentioned in literature now serve as popular destinations for tourists, offering them the chance to immerse themselves in the worlds they’ve read about.
“I Read Books on an Island offers a space for authors, readers and literary works to meet each other,” Yu Hua said in the show. Delving into the world of literature, we can build a spiritual connection with ourselves and the world around us.

(2019·全国·高考真题)Before the 1830s, most newspapers were sold through annual subscriptions in America, usually $8 to $10 a year. Today $8 or $10 seems a small amount of money, but at that time these amounts were forbidding to most citizens. Accordingly, newspapers were read almost only by rich people in politics or the trades. In addition, most newspapers had little in them that would appeal to a mass audience. They were dull and visually forbidding. But the revolution that was taking place in the 1830s would change all that.
The trend, then, was toward the “penny paper”—a term referring to papers made widely available to the public. It meant any inexpensive newspaper; perhaps more importantly it meant newspapers that could be bought in single copies on the street.
This development did not take place overnight. It had been possible(but not easy) to buy single copies of newspapers before 1830, but this usually meant the reader had to go down to the printer’s office to purchase a copy. Street sales were almost unknown. However, within a few years, street sales of newspapers would be commonplace in eastern cities. At first the price of single copies was seldom a penny—usually two or three cents was charged—and some of the older well-known papers charged five or six cents. But the phrase “penny paper” caught the public’s fancy, and soon there would be papers that did indeed sell for only a penny.
This new trend of newspapers for “the man on the street” did not begin well. Some of the early ventures(企业) were immediate failures. Publishers already in business, people who were owners of successful papers, had little desire to change the tradition. It took a few youthful and daring businessmen to get the ball rolling.
17.Which of the following best describes newspapers in America before the 1830s?
A.Academic. B.Unattractive. C.Inexpensive. D.Confidential.
18.What did street sales mean to newspapers?
A.They would be priced higher. B.They would disappear from cities.
C.They could have more readers. D.They could regain public trust.
19.Who were the newspapers of the new trend targeted at?
A.Local politicians. B.Common people.
C.Young publishers. D.Rich businessmen.
20.What can we say about the birth of the penny paper?
A.It was a difficult process. B.It was a temporary success.
C.It was a robbery of the poor. D.It was a disaster for printers.

(2009·江西·高考真题) New archaeological discovers suggest that trade between Europe and Asia along the Silk Road probably began in some form many countries earlier than once thought. The findings, coupled with a widening range of scientific and historical research, could add a fascinating new page to the epic of the Silk Road.
The latest and most surprising discovery is pieces of silk found in the hair of an Egyptian mummy from about 1000 BC, long before regular traffic on the Silk Road and at least one thousand years before silk was previously thought to be used in Egypt. Other research may extend human activity along this route back even further, perhaps a million years to the migration of human ancestors into eastern Asia.
The official origin of East-West commerce along the road is usually placed in the late 2nd century BC when an agent of the Chinese Emperor Wu-di returned from a dangerous secret mission (使命) across the desert into the remote high country of Central Asia. The agent, Zhang Qian, travelled as far as Afghanistan and brought back knowledge of even more distant lands such as Persia, Syria and a place known as Lijien, perhaps Rome. Historians have called this one of the most important journeys in ancient times. His journey opened the way for what have been thought to be the first indirect contacts between the ancient world’s two superpowers, China and Rome. Chinese silk, first traded to central Asian tribes for war horses and to the Parthians of old Persia in exchange for acrobats and ostrich eggs, was soon finding its way through a network of merchants to the luxury markets of Rome.
But the new discoveries show that Chinese silk was apparently present in the West long before the Han emperor started organized trade over the Silk Road. The research could change thinking about the early history of world trade and provide insights into the mystery of just how and when Europe and the Mediterranean lands first became aware of the glorious culture at the other end of Eurasia.
21.The word “coupled” in the first paragraph could best be replaced by ______.
A.produced B.contributed C.doubled D.combined
22.The silk thread found in the hair of an Egyptian mummy suggests that ______.
A.Egyptians had probably travelled to China to buy silk
B.trade along the Silk Road began earlier than once thought
C.historical research often achieves fascinating results
D.new light can now be thrown on ancient trading practices
23.Until recently most historians believed that trade along the Silk Road _______.
A.originated in the 2nd century BC
B.extended human migration into eastern Asia
C.began a million years ago
D.primarily benefited the Egyptians
24.Historians have always considered Zhang Qian’s mission important because they believe ______.
A.he brought back knowledge of Rome to the emperor B.he discovered the Silk Road
C.he helped establish East-West trade D.he travelled as far as Afghanistan

(2012·辽宁·高考真题)If Confucius(孔子)were still alive today and could celebrate his September 28 birthday with a big cake, there would be a lot of candles. He'd need a fan or a strong wind to help him put them out.
While many people in China will remember Confucius on his special day, few people in the United States will give him a passing thought. It's nothing personal. Most Americans don't even remember the birthdays of their own national heroes.
But this doesn't mean that Americans don't care about Confucius. In many ways he has become a bridge that foreigners must cross if they want to reach a deeper understanding of China.
In the past two decades, the Chinese studies programs have gained huge popularity in Western universities. More recently, the Chinese government has set up Confucius Institutes in more than 80 countries. These schools teach both Chinese language and culture. The main courses of Chinese culture usually include Chinese art, history and
philosophy(哲学). Some social scientists suggest that Westerners should take advantage of the ancient Chinese wisdom to make up for the drawbacks(缺陷)of Western philosophy. Students in the United States, at the same time, are racing to learn Chinese. So they will be ready for life in a world where China is an equal power with the United States. Businessmen who hope to make money in China are reading books about Confucius to understand their Chinese customers.
So the old thinker's ideas are still alive and well.
Today China attracts the West more than ever, and it will need more teachers to introduce Confucius and Chinese culture to the West.
As for the old thinker, he will not soon be forgotten by people in the West, even if his birthday is.
25.The opening paragraph is mainly intended to______________.
A.provide some key facts about Confucius
B.attract the readers' interest in the subject
C.show great respect for the ancient thinker
D.prove the popularity of modern birthday celebrations
26.We can learn from Paragraph 4 that American students___________.
A.have a great interest in studying Chinese
B.take an active part in Chinese competitions
C.try to get high scores in Chinese exams
D.fight for a chance to learn Chinese
27.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Forgotten Wisdom in America
B.Huge Fans of the Chinese Language
C.Chinese Culture for Westerners
D.Old Thinker with a Big Future
28.The passage is likely to appear in__________.
A.a personal biography B.a history paper
C.a cultural newspaper D.a philosophy textbook

(2018·江苏·高考真题)If you want to disturb the car industry, you'd better have a few billion dollars: Mom-and-pop carmakers are unlikely to beat the biggest car companies. But in agriculture, small farmers can get the best of the major players. By connecting directly with customers, and by responding quickly to changes in the markets as well as in the ecosystems(生态系统), small farmers can keep one step ahead of the big guys. As the co-founder of the National Young Farmers Coalition (NYFC, 美国青年农会)and a family farmer myself. I have a front-row seat to the innovations among small farmers that are transforming the industry.
For example, take the Quick Cut Greens Harvester, a tool developed just a couple of years ago by a young farmer, Jonathan Dysinger, in Tennessee, with a small loan from a local Slow Money group. It enables small-scale farmers to harvest 175 pounds of green vegetables per hour—a huge improvement over harvesting just a few dozen pounds by hand—suddenly making it possible for the little guys to compete with large farms of California. Before the tool came out, small farmers couldn't touch the price per pound offered by California farms. But now, with the combination of a better price point and a generally fresher product, they can stay in business.
The sustainable success of small farmers, though, won't happen without fundamental changes to the industry. One crucial factor is secure access to land. Competition from investors, developers, and established large farmers makes owning one's own land unattainable for many new farmers.
From 2004 to 2013, agricultural land values doubled, and they continue to rise in many regions.
Another challenge for more than a million of the most qualified farm workers and managers is a non-existent path to citizenship — the greatest barrier to building a farm of their own. With farmers over the age of 65 outnumbering(多于)farmers younger than 35 by six to one, and with two-thirds of the nation's farmland in need of a new farmer, we must clear the path for talented people willing to grow the nation's food.
There are solutions that could light a path toward a more sustainable and fair farm economy, but farmers can't clumsily put them together before us. We at the NYFC need broad support as we urge Congress to increase farmland conservation, as we push for immigration reform, and as we seek policies that will ensure the success of a diverse and ambitious next generation of farms from all backgrounds. With a new farm bill to be debated in Congress, consumers must take a stand with young farmers.
29.The author mentions car industry at the beginning of the passage to introduce .
A.the progress made in car industry
B.a special feature of agriculture
C.a trend of development in agriculture
D.the importance of investing in car industry
30.What does the author want to illustrate with the example in paragraph 2?
A.Loans to small local farmers are necessary.
B.Technology is vital for agricultural development.
C.Competition between small and big farms is fierce
D.Small farmers may gain some advantages over big ones.
31.What is the difficulty for those new famers?
A.To gain more financial aid.
B.To hire good farm managers.
C.To have farms of their own.
D.To win old farmers’ support.
32.What should farmers do for a more sustainable and fair farm economy?
A.Seek support beyond NYFC.
B.Expand farmland conservation.
C.Become members of NYFC.
D.Invest more to improve technology.

例如,题目问 “According to the passage, what was the main cause of the French Revolution?”,你可以在文章中寻找有关法国大革命原因的段落,可能会找到 “the heavy tax burden on the third estate” 等内容作为答案。

【答案】1.A 2.D 3.A 4.C
根据第一段“Mention the 1970s and most people will have an opinion. It was mixed up with memories of strikes, power cuts and bombs in London. Go deeper and there were plenty of pubs, televisions limited to three channels, and cinema chains that often changed their programs twice weekly, or had late night screenings. Best of all, though, was live music. 故选A项。
根据第二段中“Every town had its established site for touring bands but London enjoyed a large number of smaller locations that hosted rock, folk or jazz acts several nights a week. Many of these were Irish owned or managed, and part of a tradition where providing live music was part and parcel (主要) of running a pub. (每个城镇都有固定的乐队巡演场地,但伦敦有很多小场地,每周有几个晚上会举办摇滚、民谣或爵士表演。其中许多都是爱尔兰人拥有或管理的,这是传统的一部分,提供现场音乐是经营酒吧的重要组成部分)”可知,每周在伦敦的很多小场地都有各种现场音乐表演,酒吧提供现场音乐是一项重要传统。由此可知,很多酒吧都有现场音乐表演。故选D项。
3.细节理解题。根据第四段中“It was hardly surprising that bands concentrated on sites closer to home to lower travel and accommodation costs. (不足为奇的是,乐队集中在离家更近的地方来降低出行和住宿费用)”可知,当时乐队选择离家近的演出场地是为了降低出行和住宿费用。故选A项。
通读全文,尤其是第一段中“Mention the 1970s and most people will have an opinion. (提到20世纪70年代,大多数人都会有自己的看法)”和“Best of all, though, was live music. (不过最棒的是现场音乐表演)”可知,文章主要围绕20世纪70年代伦敦的现场音乐展开,讲述了当时伦敦现场音乐演出盛行,并分析了该现象背后的原因。因此,C项“20世纪70年代的伦敦现场音乐”最能概括文章主要内容,作为标题最合适。故选C项。

C.Give their children enough freedom.
D.Work together with the school.
【答案】5.B 6.C 7.A 8.C
根据第一段“It’s not easy being a teenager—nor is it easy being the parent of a teenager. You can make your child feel angry, hurt or misunderstood by what you say without realizing it yourself. It is important to give your child the space he needs to grow while gently letting him know that you’ll still be there for him when he needs you.”(做一个青少年并不容易,做一个青少年的家长也不容易。
根据第二段“If your child is unwilling to discuss something, don’t insist he should tell you what’s on his mind. The more you insist, the more likely that he’ll clam up.”(如果你的孩子不愿意讨论一些事情,不要坚持让他告诉你他的想法。
根据最后一段“This not only frees up the line so that other family members can make and receive calls, but teaches your teenager moderation (节制).”(这不仅解放了线路,让其他的家庭成员可以打电话和接听,同时也教给你的青少年要节制。) 故选A。
根据最后一段“Or if you are open to the idea, allow your teenager his own phone that he pays for with his own pocket money or a part-time job.”(或者,如果你对这个想法持开放态度,让你的孩子拥有自己的手机,他可以用自己的零花钱或者兼职来支付。)

【答案】17.B 18.C 19.B 20.A
In addition, most newspapers had little in them that would appeal to a mass audience. They were dull and visually forbidding.
根据第二段提到“便士报纸”针对大众,很便宜,更重要的是,在街上可以买的到报纸;再结合第三段中间的within a few years, street sales of newspapers would be commonplace in eastern cities.
The trend, then, was toward the “penny paper”—a term referring to papers made widely available to the public.
The new trend of newspapers for ‘the man on the street’ did not begin well. Some of the early ventures were immediately failures. Publishers already in business, people who owners of successful papers, had little desires to change the tradition. It took a few youthful and daring businessmen to get the ball rolling. 故选A。

【答案】21.D 22.B 23.A 24.C
结合第一段第一句“New archaeological discovers suggest that trade between Europe and Asia along the Silk Road probably began in some form many countries earlier than once thought.(新的考古发现表明,亚洲与欧洲之间通过‘丝绸之路’进行贸易很可能在曾经认为的时间以前就已经在某些国家之间先开始了)”以及第二段第一句“The latest and most surprising discovery is pieces of silk found in the hair of an Egyptian mummy from about 1000 BC, long before regular traffic on the Silk Road and at least one thousand years before silk was previously thought to be used in Egypt.(最新且最令人惊讶的发现源自于一具公元前1000年的埃及木乃伊的头发中发现的丝绸,这个时间远远早于通常认为的丝绸之路上交通的时间,同时这也将先前认为的在埃及最早使用丝绸的时间向前推了至少一千年)”可知,在一具埃及木乃伊的头发中发现的丝绸表明丝绸之路的贸易开始得比人们想象的还要早。故选B项。
结合第三段“The official origin of East-West commerce along the road is usually placed in the late 2nd century BC when an agent of the Chinese Emperor Wu-di returned from a dangerous secret mission (使命) across the desert into the remote high country of Central Asia.(东西方沿丝绸之路的贸易的官方起源通常认为是公元前2世纪末期,当时中国汉武帝的一位使者执行完一项危险的秘密使命后穿过沙漠回到远在亚洲中部的内地)”可知,大多数历史学家认为丝绸之路上的贸易起源于公元前2世纪。故选A项。
根据第三段最后两句“His journey opened the way for what have been thought to be the first indirect contacts between the ancient world’s two superpowers, China and Rome. Chinese silk, first traded to central Asian tribes for war horses and to the Parthians of old Persia in exchange for acrobats and ostrich eggs, was soon finding its way through a network of merchants to the luxury markets of Rome.(他的这次旅行开辟了古代世界的两个超级大国,中国与罗马之间普遍认为的第一次间接接触。中国的丝绸第一次被运到中亚部落中,用来换取战马,运到古波斯的帕提亚人那里,换取杂技技术和鸵鸟蛋,中国丝绸很快通过商人形成的网络进入到专供罗马奢侈品的市场)”可推测,历史学家认为张骞出使西域帮助建立了东西方的贸易往来。故选C项。

If you want to disturb the car industry, you'd better have a few billion dollars: Mom-and-pop carmakers are unlikely to beat the biggest car companies.
It enables small-scale farmers to harvest 175 pounds of green vegetables per hour—a huge improvement over harvesting just a few dozen pounds by hand—suddenly making it possible for the little guys to compete with large farms of California. But now, with the combination of a better price point and a generally fresher product, they can stay in business.,小农场价格与大农场价格接近和小农场产品更新鲜的特点,这使得小农场相对于大农场有了一些相对的优势,故选D。
Another challenge for more than a million of the most qualified farm workers and managers is a non-existent path to citizenship — the greatest barrier to building a farm of their own.
We at the NYFC need broad support as we urge Congress to increase farmland conservation, as we push for immigration reform, and as we seek policies that will ensure the success of a diverse and ambitious next generation of farms from all backgrounds. 故选A。
It enables small-scale farmers to harvest 175 pounds of green vegetables per hour—a huge improvement over harvesting just a few dozen pounds by hand—suddenly making it possible for the little guys to compete with large farms of California.
