Dear Mr.Ford,
I hope this email finds you well.I am thrilled to accept your heartfelt invitation to participate
in the online exchange event entitled "Festive China,"organized by our sister school.Your

excitement for the upcoming interaction.
For my contribution,I have chosen to focus on the detailed aspects of the Chinese New Year,
or Spring Festival,as it cmbodies the essence of Chinese traditions and values. The festive
occasion, featuring vibrant decorations, family reunions, and the exchange of red envelopes filled
with blessings, conveys the spirit of unity, hope, and renewal that is cherished by millions
worldwide.Furthermore, the rich tapestry of customs, from dragon and lion dances to the fancy
firework displays, offers a compelling illustration of China's cultural diversity and historical
heritage.

He gazed into the bucket."Well, well, how did you ever find so many?"I told him how I'd
followed the squirrel and taken the pecans from his hiding place in the hollow tree.I was beaming
when I finished my tale.Grandpa congratulated me on how resourceful I'd been in observing the
squirrel and his habits. Then he did something that surprised me.He handed the bucket back to me
and wrapped his arm gently around my shoulders."That squirrel worked very hard to gather his
winter supply of food,"he said."Now that all of his pecans are gone, don't you think that little
squirrel will be mighty hungry when it gets cold?"Suddenly I felt as hollow as that old tree. The
image of that starving squirrel wouldn't leave my mind. There was only one thing I could do.
I picked up that little bucket full of pecans and carried it back to the tree.In sight came the

heartbroken squirrel squeaking bitterly.Lifting the bucket up,I poured all of the nuts back into the
hole, refilling it with all of the squirrel's pecans and the ones I had collected on my own."Sorry,I
didn't think about that,"I whispered to the frozen creature.I didn't eat any of the sweet pecans
that night, but I had something much more filling. The satisfaction of knowing I had done just the
right thing.A good man should never take advantage of someone else's hard work, even the
squirrels.

My daughter is intelligent, but she'd never read an entire chapter book for pleasure. She'd
read books for school, but getting her to do that was like pulling teeth, and on her own she'd
read graphic novels and listened to"Harry Potter"audiobooks,None of those activities became a
gateway to deep reading.!
As a lifelong reader,I understand how reading enhances life.Yet,I found it difficult to
communicate this to my daughter. She claimed to dislike reading and her friends also"weren't
into"reading.Certainly,my daughter's having landed a smartphone last year is part of the
problem. Before the phone,I had a child who was like a social Tigger, screaming with delight at
something as simple as a new dessert.Post-phone,I had a monosyllabic blanket slug who wanted
only to stay in her room with the door closed, under a quilt, palming that little rectangle as if
unhanding it would make her social life disappear.
So I campaigned.I told her she needed to read because books are the best way to leamn about
how people's insides work. She said she could leam, more from watching the people spilling their
insides on social media.I said books offer storytelling;she said Netflix did,...I realized I
couldn't win the debates because her arguments against reading seemed valid.Still,I wanted her
to experience the subtle magic of reading-when an author sums up a feeling you didn't even
know you had,and lightbulbs go off on the top of your head.
So I offered her 100 to read a novel. She was surprised but agreed. We made a deal:
100 if she finished "The Summer I Tumed Pretty"in a month. She finished the book in seven
days and then read the sequel()in two weeks without extra pay.
Will this lead to a lifelong love of reading?I don't know. But we've opened a new portal to
the printed page for her.I hope this quiet personal place.will serve her for a lifetime.

One of my bad habits is saying "busy"when people ask me how I'm doing.Sometimes it's
because I actually am busy, but other times it's because that's what I think I'm supposed to
say. That's what important people say. That's what people who get promoted say.But working
long hours doesn't drive better results.Never taking a vacation won't lead to a promotion.So
why are we so proud to talk about how busy we are all the time?
In 2016,researchers from Columbia,Harvard, and Georgetown conducted a study to figure
it out. They found busy people are perceived to be of high status, and interestingly.these status
attributions are heavily influenced by our own beliefs about social mobility. In other words, the
more we believe that one has the opportunity for success based on hard work, the more we tend to
think that people who skip leisure and work all the time are of higher standing.
That's why we feel like we have to appear busy, and there's a real perception that if
someone is knee-deep in meetings,emails and stress,then they're.probably a big deal.This
culture of busyness is making it hard for employees to find work-life balance.According to a
recent study, one in five highly engaged employees are at risk of burnout
Personally,I'm going to stop saying "busy"when people ask me how I am.It sounds self-
righteous(自以为是的)and sets the wrong tone..Phrases like“I have limited access to email'”
and "I'll respond as soon as I get back"sound like you're being held against your will from
working as opposed to making the most of your time off.
That's why we recently launched the Out of Office Email Generator,a free tool you can use

before your next long weekend or trip. You can share loud and proud that you won't be checking
email until you're back.Managers need to think twice about emailing their teams on the

B.To ensure employees make the best of their time off.

31.What message does the author want to convey?
A.Live life to the fullest.
B.Promote the culture of busyness.
C.Make work-life balance a priority.
D.Work harder to achieve higher status.
D
The differences in health outcomes are neither new nor unknown. From differences in life
span to uneven access to quality healthcare, the so-called "Health Gap"is a persistent and
troubling indication of inequality.People living in low and middle-income countries are far more
likely to die from preventable and treatable causes.According to the World Health Organization,
obvious differences in health outcomes persist(持续存在)within countries, cutting along
socioeconomic and geographic lines.
Closing these health gaps is both a moral and practical need because every human being has
a right to a healthy, dignified life;practical because health inequities bring about substantial
economic and social costs.Health inequities could cost the U.S.economy approximately $320
billion annually and rise to $1 trillion by 2040 if not addressed. These figures emphasize the
need for systemic solutions that look at the root causes.
Artificial intelligence has entered the scene as a new tool in the attempt to remake the health
system.Broadly speaking,.patter recognition and personalized care are the two focuses in that

context.AI applications can detect diseases-often earlier and more accurately than humans-
tailor treatments to individual patients, and support healthcare professionals in managing complex

quality of life of humans.AI-powered prediction models have been used to identify patients at
high risk of complications or chronic (conditions such as kidney disease, which
otherwise often goes unnoticed until significant damage is done to the body.
Beyond clinical settings,AI-driven analyses of large datasets-from hospital records to
socroeconomic indicators-can highlight at-risk communities, helping policymakers and health
organizations distribute resources more effectively.By locating under-served areas and identifying
populations least likely to access preventive services,AI can guide targeted community
interventions, mobile clinics, health education programs, and other initiatives to close the health
gap.
While the potential is large,AI's effectiveness in closing the health gap depends on more
than just technological advancement.AI must be deliberately designed, trained, tested, and
targeted to bring out the best in and for people and the planet.

A.Prevent the spread of diseases.
B.Cure patients with chronic conditions.

Music is a huge part of our lives.36 But do we realize just how much of an influence it
really has on us?
●37
There's nothing quite like a aang to capture what was going on culturally at that time. The
slang and language usage are so indicative of the times, and you can probably recall when a song
was made based on what is mentioned.
It teaches us about language.
Most parents sing to their child from an early age,as singing is such an important part of
learning a language. If you take another language, chances are you learn key words and phrases
through songs.38For example,if you were asked to memorize sentences in Spanish you'd
probably have a hard time, but you can sing out a few lines.of the Macarena.
It's how we celebrate.
Pretty much every moment we celebrate in our lives is tied to music-blowing out our
birthday candles, scoring a goal,etc.39 Holidays around the world have distinct music that
accompanies them.A party without music just isn't a party at all.
It's part of our routine.
Music just becomes so intertwined with our lives. While we're cooking, cleaning,or just
walking around the grocery store,it's always there. It's what we do when we're happy or sad,
and it's become our self-care.40
Music has become our favourite pastime, distraction, hobby and art form. It's SO necessary
for shaping us and we wouldn't have it any other way.
A.It is like a time capsule.
B.Music helps us find our identity.
C Without it we'd probably be lost.
D.It provides an form of repetition contributing to memory.
E.It is a unique and beautiful experience that only music can provide.
