Chris Hughes is a 24yearold man from the United Kingdom. He often wears the same clothes for many days because he doesn't know how to use a washing machine.
This is not a joke. Hughes is not the only young person who doesn't have simple life skills.
According to a recent study by YouGov,today's young people in the UK are less capable(有能力的) than older people when it comes to simple life skills. For example, about 35 percent(百分比) don't know how to wash the dishes and 11 percent don't understand how to iron(熨烫) clothes.
Young people in the United States have this problem as well. According to Forbes, many young people in the US are losing the skill of cooking,as they often order food online.
Technology(科技) may be the main reason for this. Born and raised in the information age, young people are used to using phones and computers. For example, with GPS always at hand, they have no need to learn how to read physical maps.
However, this does not mean that the young can't carry out everyday tasks. The Mirror noted that as their lives have changed, the life skills that they are good at have changed as well.
The study results show that though only 45 percent know how to pay their water bills,72 percent could help set up a WiFi network in a new house.
