Yes,there's a museum for that!These collections are special,wonderful and worth a visit.
Museums have changed. We'll always have the Met in New York and the Louvre in Paris, but nowadays
you'll find a museum for absolutely everything and everyone.
Museum of Bad Art
Boston,Massachusetts
The mission of MOBA is to collect, exhibit and celebrate art that will be shown in no other venue.
The museum's new location,in the Dorchester Brewing Co.,assumes visitors would need a drink after
seeing this work.Highlights include Lucy in the Field with Flowers (above),a painting found in 1993
leaning against a trash barrel, waiting for garbage collection. This painting was the first of the MOBA
collection.A low point-and a must-see-is the painting Our Lady of Perpetual Housework.
The Mob Museum
Las Vegas,Nevada
This 1933 former U.S.post office and federal courtroom was bought by the city of Las Vegas in 2002
for $1,with the condition it be used for something cultural...like a museum.Officially the National
Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, this museum tells a visual story of the war between
the mob and the feds. The museum ends its tour by inviting you into a fully operational-and legal-
speakeasy.
National Comedy Center
Jamestown,New York
Based in Lucille Ball's hometown, this museum features exhibits such as Jerry Seinfeld's puffy shirt
and Joan Rivers's card catalog of65,000 jokes..“Before visitors go through the turnstiles(旋转门),they
create their 'sense of humor profile,'"says executive director Journey Gunderson."They choose what
they find funny, and the data is collected on a digital chip they wear on a wrist called a LaughBand so
that the comedy content is customized based on their personal taste."
The Museum of Jurassic Technology
Los Angeles,California
Perhaps no museum is more committed to challenging common categorization than this one. What
museum critic Edward Rothstein described in the New York Times as a "museum about museums"began
as the subject of the book Mr.Wilson's Cabinet of Wonder, which was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for
general nonfiction. One anonymous visitor's review,"Don't go here high.Exhibits with names like No
One May Ever Have the Same Knowledge Again and Tell the Bees can be enough to make you lose your
mind."

After bouncing around through various gigs since the age of 18,Luo Xikun has finally landed his
dream job-flying drones in Shenzhen. Now 31,Luo has already participated in the development and
testing of 18 drone express delivery routes for Meituan,a leading Chinese e-commerce platform.Luo
started as a kitchen assistant, and later became a food deliveryman at Meituan. While working, the young
man kept studying in.pursuit of a bachelor's degree.
Curious about mechanical devices since childhood,Luo had always hoped to find a job related to

to recruit drone pilots among the company's food deliverymen in April 2022.After more than a month of
intensive theoretical and practical training,he passed the professional exam on drone piloting and was
then selected to be an emergency drone pilot for Meituan amid fierce competition.
With accumulated drone delivery experience,Luo recently transferred to a new position focusing on
the drone flight test and new route exploration, which led him to a fantastic place-the Great Wall.On
Aug 16,Beijing launched its first drone logistics()delivery route in the Badaling section of the
Great Wall, which enables tourists to receive summer relief items and emergency supplies within minutes.
A single trip to the spot used to take around 50 minutes on foot.
Before the launch,Luo and his colleagues spent half a month conducting surveys on the route.Every
morning,he started climbing the Great Wall at 6 or 7,taking about 40 minutes to reach the preplanned
drone landing site to commence his work.
To Luo,it is"a challenging but exciting experience".Luo says that the Great Wall reflects the
wisdom and greatness of ancient Chinese, and today's sci-tech advancement allows people to experience
the Great Wall with greater convenience."I feel particularly proud of it,"he adds.Eyeing the skies,Luo
is "full of expectations",and keen to tap new chances of the growing low-altitude economy.
24.What did Luo Xikun do before working as a drone pilot for Meituan?

Climate change could lead to a net expansion of global forests. But will a more forested world actually
be cooler?
These are strange times for the Indigenous Nenets reindeer herders (of northem Siberia. In
their lands on the shores of the Arctic Ocean, bare tundra()is melting, bushes are sprouting, and
willows that a generation ago struggled to reach knee height now grow 3 meters tall, hiding the reindeer.
Surveys show the Nenets autonomous district,an area the size of Florida, now has four times as many
trees as official inventories recorded in the 1980s.
All around the Arctic Circle, trees are invading as the climate warms. In Norway, birch and pine are
marching poleward, outshining the tundra. In Alaska, spruce are taking over from moss and
lichen.Globally, recent research indicates forests are expanding along two-thirds of Earth's 12,000-
kilometer-long northern tree line-the point where forests give way to tundra-while becoming smaller
along just 1%.Forest gains are not limited to the far north. At lower latitudes, some warmer, dry regions
are also seeing a slight increase in trees,in part because increasing concentrations of carbon dioxide
(CO2)-the main planet-warming gas-are enabling plants to use water more efficiently and thrive in
drier soils. And the fertilizing effects of CO,are enabling existing forests to add more leaves and wood,
increasing their biomass. It's a surprisingly different picture from what is unfolding in the tropics, where
hundreds of thousands of hectares of forest are lost each year to chainsaws()and fire, and climate
change is stressing the remaining trees.
But the effects of those tropical losses could be reduced by gains elsewhere, some studies predict,
leading in the coming decades to a world with more and faster growing trees. That might seem like
surprisingly good news for curbing global warming.Forests often have a cooling effect, releasing organic
compounds and water vapor that promote the formation of clouds. And more, faster growing trees would
absorb more atmospheric carbon and lock it away in wood. But the calculus of forests'climate effects is
far from straightforward, and emerging research suggests a more forested world won't necessarily be a
cooler world.New forests could enhance warming in some areas, for example,by reducing the amount of
sunlight that is reflected into space.Over time, that could offset any gains in carbon absorption."Forests
are not just carbon sponges,"says environmental scientist Deborah Lawrence of the University of
Virginia.

Social media can be a powerful communication tool for employees, helping them to cooperate, share
deas and solve problems.Research has shown that 82%of employees think social media can improve
work relationships and 60%believe it can support decision-making processes. These beliefs contribute to
majority of workers connecting with colleagues on social media, even during work hours.
Employers typically worry that social media is a productivity killer. However,in my research with
277 employees of a healthcare organization I found these concems to be misguided.Social media doesn't
educe productivity nearly as much as it causes easy job-hopping.
In the first part of the study,I surveyed the employees about why and how they used platforms like
Facebook,Twitter,or LinkedIn.Respondents were then asked about their work behaviors, including
whether they felt motivated in their jobs and showed initiative at work.I found that employees who engage
n online social interactions with coworkers through social media blogs tend to be more motivated and
come up with innovative ideas. But when employees interact with individuals outside the organization,
they are less motivated and show less initiative.
In the second part of the study,I found 76%of employees using social media for work took an
interest in other organizations they found on social media. When I examined how respondents expressed
openness to new careers and employers,I found that they engaged in some key activities including
researching new organizations and making new work connections.
These findings present a dilemma for managers:employees using social media at work are more
engaged and more productive, but they are also more likely to leave your company.Managers should
implement solutions by creating social media groups in which employees will be more likely to work
together and less likely to share withdrawal intentions or discussions about other job opportunities.
Managers can use social media to directly reduce tumover()intentions by recognizing employees'
的
achievements and giving visibility to employees'success stories.
宣城市高二英语试卷第6页(共10页)
32.What does previous research about social media reveal?
A.Most employees think positively of it.
B.It improves employees'work efficiency.
C.It enables employees to form connections.
D.Employees spend much of their work time on it.
33.What did the author find in his study about the effect of online social interactions?
A.It differs from employee to employee.
B.It tends to vary with the platform used.
C.It has much to do with whom employees interact with.
D.It is hard to measure when employees interact with outsiders.
34.What problem was found with employees using social media for work?
A.They seldom expressed their inner thoughts.
B.Most of them explored new job opportunities.
C.They were reluctant to cooperate with others.
D.Many of them ended with lower productivity.
35.What is the author's purpose in writing the text?
A.To clarify the definition of social media at work.
B.To analyze the drawbacks of social media at work.
C.To compare different functions of social media at work.
D.To illustrate the proper application of social media at work.
