Schools help protect kids’ mental (心理的) health in many ways. Some states in the US let kids take mental health days. Should schools offer mental health days? Here’s what some students have to say.
Bibi Tooren, 11
Schools should give kids days off for mental health, because mental health is an important part of the whole health. If you don’t feel well, it will have a big influence on your ability to focus (集中). Kids get stressed with long school days. Also, kids don’t have much experience dealing with mental health crises (危机).
Nugg Canales, 8
Kids should get mental health days off from school. Sometimes, we need to stay at home to calm our minds. Some schools don’t allow music, and I need soft music to make me feel good about myself and the world. If you take a mental health day, you should not make up work because it adds stress to your life.
Hailey Young, 12
The weekend was created to give us time off, and we children need to learn to better manage our time. We hardly get our schoolwork done in the five school days we get. And schools would need students to make up mental health days. They would probably do so during our real breaks: in summer vacation or winter vacation. Another thing is that, for some kids, school might be safe.
Johnny Gabel, 9.
I don’t think schools should give students days off for their mental health. Having too many days off can have a bad influence on grades. And many students’ parents have to go to work. If students get too many days off, they might get left home too much. This could make some students’ mental health problems worse.

Almost eight years ago, Nixon decided to begin each day from a bench (长椅) with a wonderful view of the St. Peters burg Beach, Florida.
“I call it’life rising’ because watching a sunrise makes me feel centered before starting my day,” said Nixon.
A year later, a man stopped to say hello. “He said,’You know, every morning when I see you sitting here, I know everything will be OK,’”Nixon recalled. “That’s when I knew: I needed to pay attention to the people walking past. I needed to make eye contact (接触) and let people know that we mattered to each other.”
Nixon tried smiling at people and said hello. And pretty soon, more than a few early risers began joining him on the bench, asking him for advice about relationships, jobs, and personal problems.
“I was happy to listen,” Nixon said. “I wanted them to walk away knowing they didn’t have to feel alone.” So, every morning, Nixon drives seven miles to the beach, where he’ll stay for two hours.
“Nixon is always there,”said Jeff Franzen, who met Nixon while taking a walk along the beach five years ago. “The special gift is that he listens to everyone. ”
“It’s more than that,” said Dee Glowa, who is in her late 50s. She met Nixon three years ago. “He listens without any kind of return expected.”
No matter what problem a person wants to air, Nixon lends an ear. “You have to have an open heart and an open head, because you never know who’s going to walk up and what they might need,” Nixon said. “Every person who stops by the bench is worth some attention ”

The Chinese had likely been tea drinkers for several centuries. Anyone drinking tea had to use loose (松散的) leaves. Then around 1904, tea bags made their first known appearance.
A New York tea seller named Thomas Sullivan invented tea bags. Sullivan sent out free samples (样品) of his tea in silk bags for people to try. People put the bags together with the tea leaves into the cup and added hot water. The tea tasted good, and people thought it was easy to clean the cup. They were not happy when Sullivan started sending them loose tea again. As tea bags became popular, they were changed from silk to gauze (薄纱) and later paper.
In the United Kingdom, tea bags were very slow to catch on. They were introduced in the mid-1930s. Lipton Tea made the tea bag even more popular with its invention of the four-sided tea bag in 1952. And Tetley brought the round tea bags into the market in 1992.
Pyramid tea bags first appeared in Japan in the early 1980s. They are made with room to permit tea leaves to expand while they steep, allowing the full flavor (风味) of the tea to come through.
These days, tea bags continue to be a quick and convenient method for preparing tea. In recent years, however, loose leaf tea has made something of a comeback.

A school activity I took part in
I took part in many activities during my school life, but my favorite one was the English speech competition.
When I was told to compete with others, I felt both excited and nervous. To get good results, I prepared a lot. First, I wrote a speech with my teacher’s help. Then I practiced many times in class to overcome the fear of talking in public. Thanks to the encouragement from people around, I gave the speech confidently and won the first prize at last.
From the activity, I have learned that it’s important to support each other to become better.

阅读下面四篇语言材料,然后按文后要求做题。
A
Schools help protect kids’ mental (心理的) health in many ways.

Nixon tried smiling at people and said hello. And pretty soon, more than a few early risers began joining him on the bench, asking him for advice about relationships, jobs, and personal problems.

“It’s more than that,” said Dee Glowa, who is in her late 50s. She met Nixon three years ago. “He listens without any kind of return expected.”

When I was told to compete with others, I felt both excited and nervous. To get good results, I prepared a lot. First, I wrote a speech with my teacher’s help.
