参考范文
There was a phone number on the flyer. My dad called it and someone answered;it was a lady.My dad
asked whether she was the one who put out the flyers. She said "Yes!"with excitement and told us Coby.who
was very dear to her,had been gone days before. Then we told her that we had her puppy and we would take
him to her.She told us her address at once;then we went to it.
We found the lady's house, and then we knocked on the door.A lady opened the door, and when she saw
the puppy, she screamed with joy.We handed her the puppy, feeling proud. She wanted to give us a reward for
taking care of her puppy, but we said it was OK because we were really happy to help.We went home tired but
content, telling my mom the whole thing. My family became friends with the lady, and we usually visited her,
and of course,Coby!

(Text 10)
Dinosaurs are often considered as giant creatures, but new research adds to evidence that they started out
small. The evidence comes from the remains of a creature found on Madagascar that lived some 237 million years
ago and stood just 10cm tall.It may also help reveal origins of flying creatures that ruled the skies at the time of
the dinosaurs.Christian Kammerer from the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences said that there's a
general idea of dinosaurs as being giants, but this new animal is surprisingly small.
The creature that was found, named Kongonaphon kely, was discovered in 1998 in Madagascar by a team of
scientists from the American Museum of Natural History. Its origins, that is,early dinosaurs, however, are
poorly known,as few early creatures of their type have been found. The shape of the Kongonaphon kely's teeth
suggests it ate insects rather than leaves or grass.A shift to this kind of diet, which is associated with small
body size, may have helped early creatures survive by being different from their mostly meat-eating relatives.

After finishing my teaching for a school year,I thought that I should go back to
Montreal,Quebec,my hometown, for a visit. My main goal was to relax in preparation for
the challenges of my retirement in the coming year.
Through my stay in Montreal,I.met lots of Chinese who were trying hard to succeed and
then led a better life in Canada. Some travelled thousands of miles to get knowledge. When I
spoke with some of them about the major barrier they had to face after they arrived in Canada,
they all talked about the two official languages of Canada. But I was impressed by their ability
to express their ideas while they were changing between English and French.
Almost all of those people said they often felt homesick. They missed their families and
friends.Though Montreal had lots of Chinese restaurants, they longed for a home-cooked
meal,

I met some tourists who were trying to realize their childhood dreams of experiencing the
life in a developed country. When I asked them if Montreal had lived up to their expectations,
they hesitated. They said that reality never agreed with fantasies. However, they were glad

Not all the Chinese people I met were happy.I once met a young lady who met with a
gentleman through the Internet. However,to her disappointment,he disappeared after he
promised to marry her in Montreal.
I was served by another Chinese person who could not deal with the challenges of
studying in an English-speaking environment and ended up working in a restaurant with
low pay.

At a recycling center, two team members spend all day pulling items from a conveyor belt
covered in garbage ()One pulls out juice cartons and plastic bottles that can be
reprocessed, while the other searches for pollutants in the stream of paper products. They are
Al-powered robots that each look like a supercharged mechanical arm.Yes,even recycling has
gotten involved in the AI revolution.
In theory,materials recovery facilities(MRFs)gather the wastes,sort them out,and
then sell the materials to companies that can reuse them.In practice, the MRFs aren't all that
good. The issue is that it's long been too hard for recycling plants to sort materials with the
level of specificity, needed to reuse them. The traditional recycling methods succeed in
separating waste into broad categories of paper, glass, and metal. But finer layers of detail
often go unnoticed, especially with plastic. It's hard for recyclers to determine whether, say,
a container is a milk container or a pesticide(杀电剂)container..
AI stands to make a change, giving recycling plants a far more detailed view into
packaging. The AI-powered recycling robots are "vision systems":In the same way ChatGPT
is trained, they ingest lots of photographs of thrown-away items in various states of damage.
The robots are then able to identify even tiny differences in a product's color, shape, texture,
or logo.Recycling operators said that traditional systems tend to be 85 to 95 percent accurate,
while robotics companies claim up to 99 percent accuracy.
That is not to say that the turn to AI has already fixed recycling. The high-tech systems
won't come cheap-an individual robot can cost as much as $300,000.Even if costs
eventually reduce, recycling robots can't change the fact that recycling, even at its best,is

Curiosity-the strong wish to know,to discover,to learn.Inspired by curiosity,humans
are found everywhere on our planet, and beyond it in space.Yet according to human
behaviourist and author of Curious,Ian Leslie, although we are all born curious, not all of us
bring this into adulthood, and we can lose out as a result.
As Leslie explains, curiosity shapes us from the start.By trying new things,we build
knowledge, and want to know more."We are born aware that we don't know stuff-we want
to experience and discover. However, the contrast between childhood and adulthood is clear.
"We ask 40,000 questions a year between the ages of two and five,"says Leslie-around 110
each day;adults,in comparison,ask just 20.
As we get older,we may feel hesitant about asking questions, believing this reveals gaps
in our knowledge. We can become scared to share unconventional ideas for fear of criticism or
misunderstanding.We can also be a victim of our success,as Leslie explains."Once you've
worked out how to do your job, then you don't feel curious anymore. The need to learn goes
away-in a way,curiosity has done its job.But that doesn't mean you shouldn't cultivate it."
Leslie's tips for cultivating curiosity begin with spending time with the experts-
children."Talk to your kids, and try to answer those weird, difficult questions they have-
like'What is air?'This makes you think about things you've taken for granted-it reawakens
your curiosity in what's around us and how we perceive the world.
So does finding what Leslie calls-an "informal mentor",through work or other circles,
who is happy to share their expertise, from a skill, technology,to a field of learning."Try to
think of people the way children think of adults-as sources of secret knowledge,a great store
of learning you can tap into,"says Leslie.
Leslie also suggests creating a "spark file"-a digital or physical notebook in which you
collect interesting thoughts."Fill it with facts you've come across, sentences you like,
insights that strike you.Let it be random. And let it build.Over time you'll build up a rich
source of inspiration,and you'll think,'Oh that's interesting.That relates to this...'And
suddenly your mind starts firing away with new ideas and ways of thinking."
32.According to Leslie, what happens as we get older?
A.We are less aware of our knowledge gaps.
B.We gradually lose our natural curiosity.
C.We are unwilling to let others benefit from our ideas.
