For life is a paradox: it enjoins us to cling to its many gifts even while it ordains their eventual relinquishment. The rabbis of old put it this way: “A man comes to this world with his fist clenched, but when he dies, his hand is open.” Surely we ought to hold fast to life, for it is wondrous, and full of a beauty that breaks through every pore of God’s own earth. We know that this is so, but all too often we recognize this truth only in our backward glance when we remember what was and then suddenly realize that it is no more. We remember a beauty that faded, a love that waned. But we remember with far greater pain that we did not see that beauty when it flowered, that we failed to respond with love when it was tendered. Hold fast to life but not so fast that you cannot let go. This is the second side of life’s coin, the opposite pole of its paradox: we must accept our losses, and learn how to let go. 《剪纸艺术之美》 Paper-cutting is a traditional art. We can use scissors and paper to create beautiful patterns. There are flowers, animals and people in the paper-cuts. I like to make paper-cuts with my family. It needs patience and skill. We can decorate our room with the paper-cuts we made. It makes our room more beautiful. 《叶公好龙》 Ye Gong Loves Dragons Once upon a time, there was a man named Ye Gong who loved dragons very much. Not only did he love dragons himself, but he also wanted everyone to know about his passion. His home's main gate was carved with dragon reliefs, the windows were painted with dragon designs, the walls were covered with dragon paintings, and even the furniture was engraved with various dragons. Wherever he went, he would boast about his love for dragons. Ye Gong's deep affection for dragons moved a real dragon in the heavens. One day, the real dragon decided to visit this most faithful fan. So, the dragon descended from the clouds, its enormous body blocking out the sun. The dragon approached Ye Gong's home, its head peeking in, whiskers gently swaying, eyes shining brightly, and scales glistening in the sunlight. Ye Gong was leisurely drinking tea in his courtyard when he suddenly saw the real dragon appear before him. He was so terrified that he dropped his tea cup. His face turned pale, and his heart raced. Ye Gong screamed, turned around, and ran, losing a shoe in his haste. He rushed into his house, shut the door, and cowered in a corner, trembling. The real dragon looked at the frightened Ye Gong, shook its head in disappointment, and flew back to the sky. From then on, Ye Gong never dared to brag about his love for dragons again. 《孟母三迁》 Mencius' Mother Moving Three Times The story of Mencius' mother moving three times is about the mother of Mencius, a famous ancient Chinese philosopher and educator. Mencius' mother played a very important role in his upbringing. At first, Mencius' family lived near a cemetery. Young Mencius often saw people mourning and performing rituals, and he imitated them, playing similar games. Mencius' mother thought this environment was not suitable for her child's growth, so she decided to move. They moved to a marketplace. It was very lively there, with many vendors shouting to sell their goods. Young Mencius imitated the vendors, loudly calling out and pretending to do business. Mencius' mother thought this environment was also not suitable for her child's education, so she decided to move again. This time, they moved near a school. The students there studied and discussed knowledge every day. Young Mencius saw this and started to imitate them, becoming fond of studying. Mencius' mother saw that her son was positively influenced and decided that this environment was the most suitable for his growth, so they settled down there. 例如,前文提到 “The artist was known for his unique brushstrokes. His paintings were filled with vivid colors and detailed...”,后文可能会再次提及 “brushstrokes”“colors” 等同义词或相关词,通过词汇复现可确定答案。 (2)逻辑关系词:注意表示转折(but, however, yet 等)、因果(because, so, therefore 等)、并列(and, or 等)、递进(besides, moreover, furthermore 等)等逻辑关系的词。 (3)指代关系:明确代词(it, they, he, she 等)所指代的内容。 3. 例如,“The poet used beautiful words to ______ the scenery of the countryside.”,此处应选 “portray” 来表达诗人用文字描绘乡村景色。 比如,“make a contribution to...”(为…… 做贡献),“have a passion for...”(对…… 例如,“He ______ (be) an outstanding artist in the 19th century.”,根据时间状语 “in the 19th century” 可知应用一般过去时,应填 “was”。 四、阅读提升精炼试题: 一、完形填空 一、完形填空 (24-25高二上·重庆·期中)The polar bear was a tiny point in a frozen white world.
