The development (发展) of artificial intelligence (AI) has brought great changes to our lives. AI is being used in different fields, such as education, healthcare and transportation (交通).
In education, AI offers personalized learning experiences. By analyzing (分析) a student’s learning style and progress, AI systems can recommend suitable learning materials and activities. This can help students learn better.
In healthcare, AI is a powerful tool. AI can help doctors diagnose (诊断) diseases more correctly and quickly. By analyzing large numbers of medical data, AI systems can make predictions that may be difficult for human doctors to notice. For example, AI can analyze medical pictures, such as X-rays and MRIs, to find signs of diseases like cancer and heart disease.
In transportation, the development of self-driving cars powered by AI is amazing. Self-driving cars use sensors (传感器) and special rules to drive on roads and avoid things in the way. This technology can help reduce traffic accidents and improve transportation efficiency, making our journeys safer and easier.
However, the development of AI also brings some challenges (挑战). One of the main challenges is that it might take people’s jobs as AI systems become better. Another challenge lies in the legal issues. For example, if an AI system makes a mistake, who is responsible? We need to make laws to make sure that AI is used for good and not for harm.
Even though there are challenges, AI will keep developing. As technology gets better, we need to find ways to deal with these challenges and make sure AI is developed and used in a good way. In a word, AI is a double-edged sword that holds great promise but also requires careful management.

Last year, a story, The Land of Machine Memories (《机忆之地》), won the second place in a story competition. It is about a woman named Li Xiao and AI. One day, Li Xiao loses all her memories about her family. Her AI friend Neura helps her travel to the land of machine memories to find her memories back. Do you believe the great work was by AI? But exactly!
AI finished this 5, 915-word story. It also gave the story a cool name and drew some nice pictures. There were six judges in the competition, and three of them praised the story highly. “I didn’t know AI wrote it. It was fantastic,” one of them said.
Why is AI able to write good stories? First, AI keeps learning. It learns everything that people “teach” it and it uses the information to make something new. Second, AI “listens to” its human teachers. The human teachers tell it what is good or bad. In some way, we should learn from AI. What do you think?
25.Who was the writer of the story?

Jokes made by AI lack (缺乏) creative thinking. It seems you can ask artificial intelligence (AI) programs anything, and they’ll give you an answer. So, can they tell jokes? This question was raised by a UK comedian (喜剧演员) Karen Hobbs in one of her shows in June. Instead of the usual jokes she created, Hobbs told jokes written by ChatGPT.
When Hobbs asked ChatGPT for a joke, it gave one about a man joking about getting bored with his shopping-obsessed (痴迷于购物的) girlfriend. Even when she asked to tell it from a woman’s perspective (视角), it was still a shopping-obsessed girlfriend but told in the first person.
It’s no surprise that many jokes by AI come from a man’s perspective, as men are much more common in comedy. The BBC said that AI storytelling can only create stories based on what is already there.
A good joke in real life can always change based on the audience’s reaction (反应).This is a skill that often leads comedians to improvise (即兴创作). That’s something that AI can’t do for now. For example, in improvise (即兴创作), comedians don’t make preparations. They depend only on their natural reaction to the audience.
However, that could change. Research is being done to give AI a greater understanding of the world around it, which makes the future of AI jokes still uncertain.
29.What did Karen Hobbs do in one of her shows in June?
A.She told jokes written by herself. B.She performed a magic trick.
C.She sang a song. D.She told jokes written by ChatGPT.
30.Who is more common in comedy according to the passage?
A.Women B.Men. C.Children. D.Elderly people.
31.What did the BBC say about AI storytelling?
A.AI can create completely new stories.
B.AI can only create stories based on existing (现存的) ones.
C.AI storytelling is not popular.
D.AI can improvise stories like humans.
32.What do comedians depend on in improvise?
A.Their prepared scripts (手稿). B.The audience’s suggestions.
C.Their natural reaction to the audience. D.Their previous performances.
33.What can be inferred (推断) from the last sentence of the passage?
A.AI jokes will never be funny.
B.The future of AI jokes is for sure.
C.AI might improve its ability to tell jokes in the future.
D.Research on AI has stopped.

三、任务型阅读
阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
In recent years, AI has made a huge impact (影响) on how we learn English. It has opened up a world of exciting possibilities and made the learning process (过程) not only effective but also enjoyable.
One of the most interesting ways to learn English with AI is through language learning apps. Duolingo is a great example. It turns learning English into a game. The bright colors and fun challenges make us feel like we’re on an adventure. We can earn points, unlock new levels, and even compete with our friends. Another cool app is Memrise. It uses fun pictures and tricks to help us remember new words. For example, it might show an interesting picture that makes us remember a difficult word more easily.
Virtual Language Tutors is also a wonderful tool. Apps like HelloTalk let us talk to native speakers from all over the world. It’s like having a language partner right at our fingertips. We can practice speaking and listening whenever we want. And then there are the chat robots on some language learning platforms. We can ask them questions about grammar, pronunciation, or just chat about our hobbies.
There are many advantages of learning English with AI. First of all, the instant feedback (即时反馈) is really useful. When we say a word or write a sentence, AI can tell us right away if it’s correct or not. It also gives us tips on how to improve our English. This helps us catch our mistakes quickly and learn from them. Second, AI is available (可获得的) all the time. Whether you’re an early bird studying at dawn or a night owl stay up late at night. AI is always there. This is great for students who are with busy schedules and can’t always go to regular classes. Also, AI can personalize our learning. It can figure out what we’re good at and what we need to work on.
While using AI to learn English can be greatly beneficial, there are also a few challenges to keep in mind. One major challenge is that AI may not always understand the context or nuances (细微差别) of the English language, as well as slang (俚语), which are necessary aspects (方面) of mastering a language.
Additionally, AI may not provide real-time feedback on speaking and writing skills, as it depends on pre-recorded or pre-programmed responses (回复).
Another challenge is that AI may not provide the same level of interaction (互动) as a human language partner. Learning a language is not just about memorizing vocabulary and grammar rules, but also about practicing communication with real people.
In conclusion, learning English with AI is a great choice for us as it offers unique and fun ways to improve skills. However, it has some disadvantages. If you want to make progress in English, you’d better think it over whether it will help you improve your English and what you should do to make AI be a real powerful tool in your language learning journey.
43.What does Memrise use to help us remember new words?
44.How can we get help from chat robots on language learning platforms?
45.Do you want to learn English with AI? Why or why not? (Please give at least two reasons based on the passage as well as your own experience of learning English.)
四、短文填空
根据短文内容,在空白处填入一个适当的单词或用括号内单词的正确形式填空。
Do you know computer programs that can understand what you say and answer you in a human-like way? Well, ChatGPT is one of 46 (they). ChatGPT uses a much 47 (big) database (数据库). When a teacher asked ChatGPT 48 (answer) the exam questions, it could almost get full grades. When a mother asked ChatGPT to think up ideas of a birthday party 49 her son, it could give a wonderful plan. ChatGPT might help in many ways, but there are still some worries. One big problem with ChatGPT is that it makes mistakes or even give some wrong 50 (information). So we need to be careful to use it.
