We have visited places like Australia and New Zealand.
W: That sounds incredible. Can you tell me about the financial side of things?
M: OK. We’ve just got a telephone bill, a ship bill and some credit card bills. We don’t have house loans or insurance bills. The expenses are probably close to half of what they are on land. This is the part of our life that my wife is most satisfied with. By the way, our life plan is organized on a monthly basis as we move from one ship to another.
W: So cool! And another question: Do your children support your decision?
M: My son is fully supportive, because we can make many good friends, yet my daughter always insists that we should keep her informed about our physical condition.
W: I understand. Well, thanks for sharing your exciting journey.

But first up, let me tell you how I got started with the site. Although it really got going once I was at university, it actually started out as a high school project. You know, a design, a website kind of thing, but it wasn’t like anyone expected it to become real or anything. I designed a site about girls basketball, which I was passionate about.
And called it emaleask.com. I knew the name wasn’t right and before it got really successful I changed it to matchgirl.com. And that was a really good move. And although it started with basketball, the site grown to include other games as well.
It features a variety of articles and reviews on everything ranging from basketball to computer games, plus some more traditionally girly material as well. But the coverage of team sports is at the heart of it. Anything about makeup or fashion is just secondary to that.

B
As long as I can remember having a phone in my hand, I’ve been a terrible replier. When a new group chat is created, the members will come to laugh at my inability to respond to a simple question in a matter of hours.
I’m not a horrible replier in all aspects of my life. In fact, I pride myself on my swift response time when it comes to work emails, my manager and my mum. “Call me instead,” I tell my friends. “I’m a much better caller.” They know if it’s urgent and they need me, I’ll pick up and always be there. But if I read a message and I categorize it as non-urgent, then it’s a different story.
When it comes to the group chats, the conversations move so rapidly that if I’m not present for five minutes, I’ve suddenly missed 67 messages concerning daily matters. By the time I’ve responded to their messages, many have already messaged back, and then I mentally file their non-urgent messages away in the non-urgent cabinet (柜) again, and thus the problematic cycle continues — the unavoidable iMessage quicksand (流沙).
I want to stress I do love my friends and I am grateful to be included in all of the group chats. I simply find it a headache to keep up with the never-ending stream of messages that we’re flooded with throughout the day. In these moments, my friend’s messages go unanswered and I sometimes feel like throwing my phone into a lake, lying on the floor and staring at a wall.
Alas, I recently asked my friend Tully how she felt about my texting habits. She’s the friend you can always rely on to give you the non-sugar-coated truth. “You take three to five business days to respond if we’re lucky,” she tells me. Ouch, but probably not wrong. “To be fair,” she adds, “when we do eventually get an answer out of you — you are always down for the plans, you always show up when we need you, you never cancel and you’re usually the one driving 40 minutes across town to see us southside so… we can handle the group chat silence in return for that kind of friendship.”
24.What will happen if a friend sends the author a message in a group chat?
A.The author will respond very soon.
B.The author will call her friend back.
C.It might be deleted and put into the cabinet.
D.It might be answered in several hours or even days.
25.What is the basis for the author’s decision on response time to a message?
A.The quality of friendship. B.The degree of urgency.
C.Random choice. D.Time order.
26.What does the author focus on in the third and fourth paragraphs?
A.The value of interpersonal relationship.
B.The importance of being in a group chat.
C.Problems with group chat messages.
D.Methods of using group chats in our life.
27.Which of the following can best describe the author?
A.Creative. B.Irresponsible. C.Lazy. D.Trustworthy.
根据第一段中“When a new group chat is created, the members will come to laugh at my inability to respond to a simple question in a matter of hours. (当创建一个新的群聊时,成员们会嘲笑我不能在几个小时内回复一个简单的问题)”和最后一段中““You take three to five business days to respond if we’re lucky,” she tells me. (‘如果幸运的话,你需要三到五个工作日才能回复,’她告诉我)”可知,当朋友在群聊里给作者发消息时,可能会在几个小时甚至几天后才回复。故选D项。
25.细节理解题。根据第二段中“They know if it’s urgent and they need me, I’ll pick up and always be there. But if I read a message and I categorize it as non-urgent, then it’s a different story. (他们知道如果有紧急情况需要我,我会接电话,永远在那里。但如果我读到一条信息,并将其归类为非紧急信息,那么情况就不同了)”可知,作者决定对消息的回应时间是根据消息的紧急程度。故选B项。
26.主旨大意题。根据第三段中“When it comes to the group chats, the conversations move so rapidly that if I’m not present for five minutes, I’ve suddenly missed 67 messages concerning daily matters. (在群聊的时候,对话进行得如此之快,以至于如果我缺席五分钟,我就会突然错过67条与日常事务有关的信息)”和第四段中“I simply find it a headache to keep up with the never-ending stream of messages that we’re flooded with throughout the day. In these moments, my friend’s messages go unanswered and I sometimes feel like throwing my phone into a lake, lying on the floor and staring at a wall. (我只是觉得要跟上我们整天被淹没的没完没了的信息流是件令人头疼的事。在这些时刻,我朋友的信息无人回复,有时我想把手机扔进湖里,躺在地板上盯着墙看)”可知,第三段主要描述了群聊消息更新太快,第四段主要表明作者对源源不断的消息感到头疼,都是在说明群聊消息带来的问题。故选C项。
27.推理判断题。根据第二段中“I’m not a horrible replier in all aspects of my life. In fact, I pride myself on my swift response time when it comes to work emails, my manager and my mum. (在生活的各个方面,我都不是一个糟糕的回复者。事实上,当涉及到工作邮件、我的经理和我的妈妈时,我对自己的快速回复感到自豪)”和最后一段中““To be fair,” she adds, “when we do eventually get an answer out of you — you are always down for the plans, you always show up when we need you, you never cancel and you’re usually the one driving 40 minutes across town to see us southside so… we can handle the group chat silence in return for that kind of friendship.” (‘公平地说,’她补充道,‘当我们最终从你那里得到答复时——你总是按计划进行,总是在我们需要你的时候出现,你从不取消,而且通常是你开40分钟的车穿过城市到南边看我们,所以……我们可以处理群聊的沉默,作为对这种友谊的回报。’)”可知,作者总能快速回复重要的消息,及时地、可靠地帮助有需要的朋友。由此可知,作者是值得信赖的。故选D项。

Media literacy (素养) is finally getting some late-arriving attention. Whether it’s the increasing awareness of political disinformation or the threat of AI, discussions about media literacy are on the rise. The adoption of media literacy in the classroom, however, stagnates.
The driving force for providing kids with media literacy skills often gets lost in the moral panic over technology and kids. Fear has overrun reason, and people can’t decide whether to blame social media, mobile devices, tech companies, or the Internet. They are concerned with claims that technology and social media are the causes of teenage mental health issues despite the weak associations. In response, too many solutions are “ostrich policies (鸵鸟政策) ” that want to ban devices and shut down social media but don’t address more fundamental issues.
Policies that set age limits on social media access and restrict devices during school to minimize disturbance can be helpful but are incomplete solutions. Social media didn’t invent bullies (霸凌) or the enormous effect of peer pressure. Social media platforms may be a new battleground, but they are not the source. Unfortunately, many current policies ignore the need to teach kids how to manage these challenges. There is frighteningly little attention paid to preparing kids to make good decisions when they will, unavoidably, get online.
On the bright side, the rapid development of AI and increasing attention to the amount of misinformation online have helped normalize the acceptance of media literacy as a core skill. While suggestions to limit inappropriate device use, increase face-to-face socialization, and engage in outdoor play arc beneficial, they do not build the core skills that will keep kids safe offline and are fundamental to well-being and life success: good citizenship, self-awareness and self-control. Those things take teaching, whether you are online or outside.
Media literacy is an essential life skill that, once learned, can be applied to any content. While waiting for public education to catch up, parents and educators can build media literacy skills at home with numerous resources, ranging from family technology contracts and discussion guides to easy activities that can be done at home with kids.

A.Belief in the rapid growth of new technologies
B.Concern over cutting kids off from the Internet

D.Fear of technology causing mental health issues in teenagers.
30.What does paragraph 3 of the text focus on?
A.The sources of peer pressure. B.The benefits of minimizing disturbance.
C.The problems of current policies. D.The disadvantages of social media platforms
31.Which of the following belongs to media literacy?
A.Reducing social media exposure. B.Applying critical thinking to media.
C.Increasing face-to-face interactions. D.Recognizing the dangers of social media
根据第一段中“Whether it’s the increasing awareness of political disinformation or the threat of AI, discussions about media literacy are on the rise.(无论是对政治虚假信息的日益意识,还是人工智能的威胁,关于媒体素养的讨论都在增加)”以及划线单词句中“The adoption of media literacy in the classroom, however, …(然而,媒体素养在课堂上的普及却……)”
根据第二段中“The driving force for providing kids with media literacy skills often gets lost in the moral panic over technology and kids. Fear has overrun reason, and people can’t decide whether to blame social media, mobile devices, tech companies, or the Internet. They are concerned with claims that technology and social media are the causes of teenage mental health issues despite the weak associations.(在对科技和孩子的道德恐慌中,为孩子们提供媒体素养技能的驱动力往往会消失。恐惧已经超越了理性,人们无法决定是归咎于社交媒体、移动设备、科技公司还是互联网。他们担心科技和社交媒体是青少年心理健康问题的原因,尽管两者之间的联系很弱)”可知,对科技的恐惧导致青少年的心理健康问题导致了人们对科技和孩子的道德恐慌。故选D项。
30.主旨大意题。根据第三段中“Policies that set age limits on social media access and restrict devices during school to minimize disturbance can be helpful but are incomplete solutions. Social media didn’t invent bullies (霸凌) or the enormous effect of peer pressure. Social media platforms may be a new battleground, but they are not the source. Unfortunately, many current policies ignore the need to teach kids how to manage these challenges.(设置社交媒体使用年龄限制和在校期间限制使用电子设备以尽量减少干扰的政策可能会有所帮助,但这是不完整的解决方案。社交媒体并没有发明欺凌或同伴压力的巨大影响。社交媒体平台可能是一个新的战场,但它们不是源头。不幸的是,许多现行政策忽视了教育孩子如何应对这些挑战的必要性)”可知,第三段主要关注的是当前政策的问题。故选C项。
31.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Media literacy is an essential life skill that, once learned, can be applied to any content. While waiting for public education to catch up, parents and educators can build media literacy skills at home with numerous resources, ranging from family technology contracts and discussion guides to easy activities that can be done at home with kids.(媒体素养是一项重要的生活技能,一旦学会,就可以应用于任何内容。在等待公共教育迎头赶上的同时,父母和教育工作者可以在家里利用大量资源培养媒体素养技能,从家庭技术合同和讨论指南到可以在家里和孩子一起做的简单活动)”可知,文章强调媒体素养是一种生活技能,能应用于任何内容,是让孩子在网络世界做出正确决策,学会应对挑战等的能力。由此可推知,B 选项“对媒体运用批判性思维”属于这种能力,符合媒体素养定义。故选B项。
D
Babies playfully tease others as young as eight months of age. Since language is not required for this behavior, similar kinds of playful teasing might be present in non-human animals.
Now, a new study led by Isabelle Laumer at the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior has documented playful teasing in five species of great apes. “Great apes are excellent candidates for playful teasing, as they are closely related to us, engage in social play, show laughter and display relatively sophisticated understandings of others’ expectations,” Laumer says.
Laumer and her colleagues collected videos of five species of great apes: bonobos, Sumatran orangutans, western and eastern gorillas and chimpanzees. There were a total of 34 apes, all housed in zoos. After examining 75 hours of videos, the team documented 504 social interactions between individuals. Of those, 142 were classified as examples of playful teasing, consisting of 18 behaviors, including poking (戳), hitting, pulling on hair and stealing.
The researchers found that the teaser tended to look at their target’s face straight after an action, which suggests that a response was expected. If there wasn’t any reaction, the teaser would usually escalate the teasing, for example by poking their targets even more. And this behavior typically happened in a calm, comfortable setting, which can signify that it was playful, instead of being aggressive. “And much like play in general, it is also helpful in building relationships between members of a group and even testing out social boundaries,” the researchers add.
But the researchers noted that it differed from humans’ play in several ways. “Playful teasing in great apes is one-sided, very much coming from the teaser often throughout the entire interaction,” explains Laumer. “The animals also rarely use play signals like the primate ‘playface’, which is similar to what we would call a smile, or ‘hold’ gestures that signal their intent to play.”
“Studying great apes is critical to understanding which features of human cognition and behaviour are shared and likely evolved millions of years ago in a common ancestor,” says Christopher Krupenye at Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. “This study provides exciting evidence that all apes seem to engage in playful teasing behaviour and also charts a path for future research in other species.”
32.What can we learn from paragraph 2?
A.What great apes convey through joyful teasing.
B.Why the researchers chose great apes as subjects.
C.What inspired the researchers to conduct the study.
D.Why playful teasing can be independent of language.
33.Which of the following words can best replace the underlined word “escalate” in paragraph 4?
A.avoid B.increase C.enjoy D.stop
34.What do we know about playful teasing among apes from the study?
A.It is an effective way to build trust. B.It bears a strong similarity to our joking.
C.It often results in fierce fight between them. D.It is of great help to their social interactions.
35.What is Christopher Krupenye’s attitude towards the study?
A.Favorable. B.Unconcerned. C.Disapproving. D.Doubtful.
【答案】32.B 33.B 34.D 35.A
根据第二段中“‘Great apes are excellent candidates for playful teasing, as they are closely related to us, engage in social play, show laughter and display relatively sophisticated understandings of others’ expectations,’ Laumer says.(Laumer说:‘大猩猩是嬉戏取乐的绝佳候选者,因为它们与我们关系密切,参与社交游戏,会笑,并对他人的期望表现出相对复杂的理解。’)”
根据第四段中“The researchers found that the teaser tended to look at their target’s face straight after an action, which suggests that a response was expected. If there wasn’t any reaction, the teaser would usually escalate the teasing, for example by poking their targets even more.(研究人员发现,戏弄者往往会在行动后直视目标的脸,这表明他们期待对方的反应。如果没有任何反应,戏弄者通常会______戏弄,比如更频繁地戳他们的目标。)”可知,如果没有反应,戏弄者会加大戏弄的程度,比如更频繁地戳目标。由此推知,划线词escalate意为“升级,加剧”,与increase意思相近。故选B项。
34.细节理解题。根据第四段中“And this behavior typically happened in a calm, comfortable setting, which can signify that it was playful, instead of being aggressive. ‘And much like play in general, it is also helpful in building relationships between members of a group and even testing out social boundaries,’ the researchers add.(这种行为通常发生在平静、舒适的环境中,这可能意味着它是玩耍的,而不是攻击性的。研究人员补充说:‘就像一般的玩耍一样,它也有助于建立群体成员之间的关系,甚至测试社交界限。’)”可知,在研究中发现,嬉戏取乐有助于大猩猩之间的社交互动,建立关系,甚至测试社交界限。故选D项。
35.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“‘Studying great apes is critical to understanding which features of human cognition and behaviour are shared and likely evolved millions of years ago in a common ancestor,’ says Christopher Krupenye at Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. ‘This study provides exciting evidence that all apes seem to engage in playful teasing behaviour and also charts a path for future research in other species.’ 故选A项。

Michael’s life had always been full of simplicity and sacrifice. Growing up in a home where every penny counted, he had learned the value of frugality (节约) from a young age. Although his family was not wealthy, he never complained. He understood the struggle and was grateful for what he had. His parents worked hard to make ends meet, and Michael saw their devotion as a testament to their love. He dreamed of having his own business and earning money to help the needy people in the future.
At school, Michael arranged his life properly and studied hard for his dream. He would bring a homemade lunch, just some pieces of bread, unlike the delicate sandwiches and snacks his classmates enjoyed. He would eat quickly and then read a book attentively. His family’s tight budget was also evident in their clothing. His uniform was worn and faded, and he wore the same pair of shoes until they seemed to separate from the uppers with each step. Despite some embarrassment, Michael held his head high, never feeling inferior.
Michael’s academic performance, however, was a source of pride that transcended (超越) his material circumstances. In the class full of harmony and love, he tried his best to learn, and his grades were a reflection of his commitment to his education. He knew that knowledge was a path to a better future, where he could lift his family out of poverty and give back to the community that had supported them in their time of need. During his spare time, he always helped his classmates whenever they encountered problems.
With limited resources, Michael had never known the joy of a birthday party. Sometimes, he thought to himself, “When can I have a birthday with a big cake?” Luckily, this term, the class teacher, Mr Smith, had assigned a task for the monitor to celebrate each child’s birthday at school. The monitor of the class, Joey, had noted down everyone’s birthday, and Michael’s birthday was next Monday.

The following Monday morning, Michael saw Mr Smith before him walking up to the classroom. He quickened his steps because the bell was about to ring. Mr Smith felt something and turned back with a warm smile. “Good morning, Mr Smith,” Michael greeted. Joey had decorated the room with colorful balloons. As Michael entered, his classmates surrounded him, singing, “Happy Birthday!” Amid cheers and laughter, they presented him with a homemade cake, symbolizing their unity and care. Michael felt so loved that he cried. From then on, he studied even harder despite all the difficulties and decided to do something in return one day.
Years later, Michael became a successful businessman and started a kindness club in his old school. With a collection of valuable memories in his mind, he donated large amounts of money to set up the platform where students could share their own acts of kindness and inspire others to do the same. The club quickly gained popularity, and soon students from all grades participated in various activities, from sending clothes to their schoolmates in need to organizing food drives for the local community. Michael’s club helped a lot of people, and the ripple effect was felt throughout the school and beyond, proving that kindness could make a difference.

C
28.What does the underlined word “stagnates” in the first paragraph probably mean?
A.Gets far ahead. B.Falls apart suddenly.
C.Falls well short. D.Gets started officially.
29.What causes people’s moral panic over technology and kids?
A.Belief in the rapid growth of new technologies
B.Concern over cutting kids off from the Internet
C.Inability to balance the use of social media and health.
D.Doubtful.

1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

D.Doubtful.

1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
