She had requested the community to turn it into a museum upon her death. On a sunny Saturday, Sally and I drove over to the museum. She asked, “Do you have the address?” “No, but I’ll recognize it, there was a picture in the magazine.” “Oh, stop. There it is!” The museum was free. We entered, excited. A group of people sitting in the hall stopped talking and stared at us. “May I help you?” a man asked. “No,” I said. “We’re fine.” Tour guides got on my nerves. What if they talked a long time about a painting you weren’t that interested in? Sally had gone upstairs. The people in the hall seemed very nosy (爱窥探的), keeping their eyes on me with curiosity. What was their problem? I saw some nice sculptures (雕刻) in one room. Suddenly I sensed a man standing behind me. “Where do you think you are?” he asked. I turned sharply. “The McNay Art Museum!” He smiled, shaking his head. “Sorry, the McNay is on New Braunfels Street.” “What’s this place?” I asked, still confused. “Well, it’s our home.” My heart jolted (震颤). I raced to the staircase and called out, “Sally! Come down immediately!” “There’s some really good stuff (艺术作品) up there.” She stepped down, looking confused. I pushed her toward the front door, waving at the family, saying, “Sorry, please forgive us, you have a really nice place.” Outside, when I told Sally what happened, she covered her mouth, laughing. She couldn’t believe how long they let us look around without saying anything. The real McNay was splendid, but we felt nervous the whole time we were there. Van Gogh, Picasso. This time, we stayed together, in case anything else unusual happened. Thirty years later, a woman approached me in a public place. “Excuse me, did you ever enter a residence (住宅), long ago, thinking it was the McNay Museum?” “Yes. But how do you know? We never told anyone.” “That was my home. I was a teenager sitting in the hall. Before you came over, I never realized what a beautiful place I lived in. I never felt lucky before. You thought it was a museum. My feelings about mv home changed after that. I’ve always wanted to thank you.” 4. What do we know about Marian McNay? A. She was a journalist. B. She was a painter. C. She was a museum director. D. She was a community leader. 5. Why did the author refuse the help from the man in the house? A. She disliked people who were nosy. B. She felt nervous when talking to strangers. C. She thought of him as a tour guide D. She knew more about art than the man. 6. How did the author feel about being stared at by the people in the hall? A. Puzzled. B. Concerned. C. Frightened. D. Delighted. 7. What could we learn from the last paragraph? A. People should have good taste to enjoy life. B. C Minutes after the last movie ended yesterday at the Plaza Theater, employees were busy sweeping up popcorns and gathering coke cups. It was a scene that had been repeated many times in the theater’s 75-year history. This time, however, the cleanup was a little different. As one group of workers carried out the rubbish, another group began removing seats and other theater equipment in preparation for the building’s end. The film classic The Last Picture Show was the last movie shown in the old theater. Though the movie is 30 years old, most of the 250 seats were filled with teary-eyed audience wanting to say good-bye to the old building. Theater owner Ed Bradford said he chose the movie because it seemed appropriate (适合的). The movie is set in a small town where the only movie theater is preparing to close down. Bradford said that large modern theaters in the city made it impossible for the Plaza to compete. He added that the theater’s location (位置) was also a reason. “This used to be the center of town,” he said. “Now the area is mostly office buildings and warehouses.” Last week some city officials suggested the city might be interested in turning the old theater into a museum and public meeting place. However, these plans were abandoned (放弃) because of financial problems. Bradford sold the building and land to a local development firm, which plans to build a shopping complex on the land where the theater is located. The theater audience said good-bye as Bradford locked the doors for the last time. After 75 years the Plaza Theater had shown its last movie. The theater will be missed. 8. In what way was yesterday’s cleanup at the Plaza special? A. It made room for new equipment. B. It signaled the closedown of the theater. C. It was done with the help of the audience. D. It marked the 75th anniversary of the theater. 9. Why was The Last Picture Show put on? A. It was an all-time classic. B. It was about the history of the town. C. The audience requested it. D. The theater owner found it suitable. 10. What will probably happen to the building? A. It will be repaired. B. It will be turned into a museum. C. It will be knocked down. D. It will be sold to the city government. 11. What can we infer about the audience? A They are disappointed with Bradford. B. They are sad to part with the old theater. C. They are supportive of the city officials. D. They are eager to have a shopping center. D Reading can be a social activity. Think of the people who belong to book groups. They choose books to read and then meet to discuss them. Now, the website Book Crossing.com turns the page on the traditional idea of a book group. Members go on the site and register (登记) the books they own and would like to share. Book Crossing provides an identification number (识别码) to stick inside the book. Then the person leaves it in a public place, hoping that the book will have an adventure, traveling far and wide with each new reader who finds it. Bruce Pederson, the managing director of Book Crossing, says, “The two things that change your life are the people you meet and books you read. Book Crossing combines both.” Members leave books on park benches and buses, in train stations and coffee shops. Whoever finds their book will go to the site and record where they found it. People who find a book can also leave a journal entry describing what they thought of it. E— mails are then sent to the BookCrossers to keep them updated about where their books have been found. Bruce Pederson says the idea is for people not to be selfish by keeping a book to gather dust on a shelf at home. Book Crossing is part of a trend (趋势) among people who want to get back to the “real” and not the virtual (虚拟).The site now has more than one million members in more than one hundred thirty—five countries. 12. Why does the author mention book groups in the first paragraph? A. To explain what they are. B. To introduce Book Crossing. C. To stress the importance of reading. D. To encourage readers to share their ideas. 13. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to? A. An adventure. B. A public place. C. The book. D. The identification number. 14. What will a Book Crosser do with a book after reading it? A. Keep it safe in his bookcase. B. Mail it back to its owner. C Meet other readers to discuss it. D. Pass it on to another reader. 15. C. 8. The theater owner found it suitable. 10. What will probably happen to the building? A. It will be repaired. B. It will be turned into a museum. C. It will be knocked down. D. It will be sold to the city government. 11. What can we infer about the audience? A. They are disappointed with Bradford. B. They are sad to part with the old theater. C. She had a quarrel (争吵) with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily. She couldn’t help weeping (哭泣) sorrowfully when she thought of the scolding (责备) from her mother. Having wandered (闲逛) aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat, but it was not even possible for her, since she had nothing with her. She stood beside a stand (摊位) for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she sighed and had to leave. The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, “Hey, girl, you want to have the noodles?” “Oh, yes… but I don’t have money on me” she replied. “That’s nothing. I’ll treat you today,”said the man, “come in.” The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, whose smell was so attractive. As she was eating, Jenny cried silently. “What is it?” asked the man kindly. “Nothing, actually I was just touched by your kindness!” said Jenny as she wiped her tears, “Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother, drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is so merciless (无情的) compared to a stranger!” Hearing the words, the seller smiled “Girl, do you really think so? I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times she cooked for you? Have you expressed your gratitude to her?” Jenny sat there, speechless and numb (呆滞)with shock; she remembered mother’s familiar face and weathered (饱经风霜的) hands. “Why did I not think of that? A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel indebted (感激的;蒙恩的), but I have never thanked my mum for what she has done for me.” On the way home, Jenny made up her mind to make an apology to her mother for her rudeness as soon as she arrived home. 注意:1.写作词数应为100左右;2.请在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph1: Approaching the doorway, Jenny took a deep breath. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2:  A gentle touch on her hair called her mind back. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Approaching the doorway, Jenny took a deep breath. She could hear her own heart beating loudly in her ears. Her hand trembled slightly as she reached for the doorknob. As she entered, she saw her mother sitting in the dimly lit living room. Jenny walked slowly towards her, her steps heavy with guilt. “Mom,” she said softly, “I’m back. I’m so sorry for what I did. I was so blind and ungrateful. You’ve given me so much love and care all these years, and I repaid you with rudeness.” A gentle touch on her hair called her mind back. Jenny looked into her mother’s eyes, which were filled with a mixture of relief and love. Her mother cupped her face in her hands and said, “My dear, I was so worried about you. I’m just glad you’re safe.” They hugged each other tightly. Jenny realized that this was the place where she truly belonged, and that her mother’s love was an unbreakable bond. From then on, she made it a point to be more patient and understanding with her mother, knowing that every moment spent with her was a precious gift. Because in the end, it was the love of family that could heal all wounds and make one whole again. 词汇激活 行为类 ①颤抖:tremble/shiver/shake ②意识到:realize/recognize ③拥抱:hug/embrace 情绪类 ①不感激的:ungrateful/unthankful ②担心的:worried/concerned 【点睛】【高分句型1】Her hand trembled slightly as she reached for the doorknob. (运用as引导的时间状语从句) 【高分句型2】Jenny walked slowly towards her, her steps heavy with guilt.
