Paragraph 1:
Jordan nodded, "I let her out last night." My mouth dropped open. "She was outside all night?" I was so furious, "It was freezing and she could die!" Jordan choked back his words, stunned. I grabbed my coat and rushed outside. Jordan followed, fear welling up in his eyes. Several minutes later, the poor thing was found, shaking and curling into a tiny ball. I picked her up, unsure whether she was alive or dead. Jordan was scared, "We need a vet! Now!"
Paragraph 2:
As I drove to the animal hospital, Jordan sat in the back, holding Meatball inside his coat. I could hear him talking to the cat and apologizing repeatedly. Luckily, the vet saved Meatball. Seeing her eyes open, Jordan stroked her head, with tears in his eyes. Then, surprisingly, he turned to me. He apologized for what he had done. "I know you just want to keep me safe," he murmured. I felt a lump in my throat. He rubbed Meatball’s back and said,"We are both going to observe the curfew. It's for our own good."

I love travelling, but it hasn’t always been my passion. In my first year of university, I started to travel during the holiday. During the Christmas holiday I went to Paris, and during the spring vacation, I visited Athens and various cities in Italy. I was very excited because this was the first time I had travelled abroad with just my friends. This desire to travel started off simply as a way to have something to look forward to after exams, but I soon discovered how important it is to travel.
On my travels I have had the opportunity where I not only experience new and exciting cultures through the art, history, language and food, but also communicate with people who have different views on life. Travelling is a learning experience for both yourself and the people you meet. Some people I met during my travels had never heard of Gambia and it was very delightful to share my African roots with them. When you travel you will meet people who have different cultural backgrounds and as a result, sometimes your own ideas and opinions might be challenged. It’s important to learn to see things from other people’s perspectives (视角) and challenge your own.
This is how I realized that travelling is the realization of home. When you travel you can see a different setting, a different language and a different way of living.
Travelling is truly an enriching experience and I am always excited about the discoveries that wait for me in my next adventure!
24.Why was the author excited when he was in Italy?
A.Because it was the first time for him to go abroad with friends.
B.Because luckily he met his old friends there.
C.Because he was attracted by the beauty of the country.
D.Because he had never gone abroad before.
25.What does the author often do during his travels?
A.He has chances to communicate with his family.
B.He is curious to know why there are so many languages.
C.He learns a lot in many ways from the people he meets.
D.He shares his travelling experiences with foreign friends.
26.What can we infer from the second paragraph?
A.The author is a student from America.
B.The author’s roots probably are in Gambia.
C.The author often has different opinions from others.
D.The author knows nothing about African history.
27.What will the author do in the future?
A.He will find out the exact location of his home.
B.He will get familiar with a different way of living.
C.He will make a summary of his exciting adventures.
D.He will make preparations for his next wonderful trip.
C
Children seem to care so much about their names. A study shows that most young people wish their parents had given them a different name.
Some people choose to change their names when they grow up. Many people in show business don’t use the names their parents gave them. Have you ever listened to Joanne? No? The answer could be “yes” if we call her stage name instead! You may never heard of Margaret. But if we tell you her stage name, you might know her as a famous dancer.
In many cultures, there are special ideas about how to choose a name. For example, many people choose a name that has been in their family for many years. It tells the child where he or she comes from.
Choosing a good name isn’t easy. Many parents search books that tell them the meanings of names. They could choose a name that carries a message. For example, Edith means “valuable gift”. Amanda means “love”. And Fara means “joy”.
Names like these tell family and friends how happy they are with their new baby. Other names can say something about the events during the birth of the child. In Africa, a first born son may have the name Mosi and the name Ama means “born on Saturday”.
Is every boy called Curtis polite? And is every girl called Mahira quick and full of energy? No parents can tell what kind of person their child will grow up to be. Just because parents name a boy Fahim, it doesn’t mean he will be clever. All they can do is hope.
28.What can we know about the study?
A.Young kids don’t care about their future.
B.Most young people care about their names.
C.Most girls want to change their names.
D.Most parents want to rename by themselves.
29.Why is “Joanne” mentioned in paragraph 2?
A.To prove some people hope to be renamed.
B.To introduce a famous dancer to readers.
C.To introduce her true name.
D.To tell the benefit of name.
30.Why is it difficult to choose a good name?
A.Kids always want to rename.
B.Parents want to choose a meaningful name.
C.Parents aren’t sure if their kids will like the name.
D.It is hard to change kids’ names.
31.What is the best title for the text?
A.Names can never influence our lives
B.Methods to choose a suitable name
C.Love your parents, love your name
D.Your parents’ wish is behind names
D
Boxing has been practiced for centuries — it was even one of the sports in the original Olympic Games in ancient Greece. More recently, boxing has become the mainstream in the UK, with hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life participating in the sport every week. But why? The answer lies in the physical, mental and even social benefits boxing can bring.
Its physical benefits are clear. Whether it’s practicing with a punching bag (沙袋) or a partner or facing an opponent in the ring, boxing can be an intense form of exercise and give a full-body workout. It can improve muscular strength, and it can also increase fitness — allowing someone to work out harder, for longer. These can, in turn, have a positive impact on other aspects of physical well-being, like heart health and weight management.
But the high physical demands of the sport aren’t just good for the body — boxing can also have a positive impact on someone’s mental well-being. Dr Jessica Pinchbeck, Senior Lecturer in Sport and Fitness at the Open University, says that boxing can mitigate some of the symptoms of anxiety and depression. Exercising regularly is already widely known to be good for mental health, but boxing can also bring a sense of discipline and focus.
And there is a third benefit of putting on the boxing gloves. Practicing punches can be done alone, of course, but boxing is not just an individual activity — it also involves working with others to train and stay safe. Dr Gavin Williams, Senior Lecturer in Education at the Open University, says that this cooperation and team work can create a sense of identity and belonging. So, no matter what the reason that attracts someone to boxing, the interactive elements of the sport mean it can also have profound social benefits.
Good for body, mind and social interactions? It’s not surprising that more and more people are stepping into the ring.
32.How does the author develop the passage?
A.By giving examples. B.By making suggestions.
C.By listing reasons. D.By answering questions.
33.What does the underlined word “mitigate ”in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Change. B.Determine. C.Control. D.Reduce.
34.What would be the best choice according to Dr Gavin Williams?
A.Practicing boxing in the ring. B.Practicing boxing with a partner.
C.Practicing boxing on your own. D.Practicing boxing with a punching bag.
35.What would be the best title for the text?
A.The benefits of boxing B.Boxing leads to great teamwork
C.The ways to practice boxing D.Boxing does good to your health

Keep in mind that we can gain this good learning habit, from 64 we can benefit a lot.
What’s more, I find out that I still have some bad learning habits as well. I can only concentrate on reading for a short time and I will conquer this problem by spending more effort 65 concentration practice in future.

My teenage son, Jordan, always complained about having to be home earlier than all his friends. He would tell me that he was already seventeen, but still had a curfew (宵禁). He believed he was practically an adult. I pointed out that he was not an adult as he was still in high school. "You don't trust me!" he yelled. Before I continued, he rolled his eyes, slammed the door and walked away, I sighed. How could I make Jordan see that I only wanted to keep him safe?
I decided to go for a walk, hoping the December air would clear my head. I opened the front door and early stepped on her: a small black cat, just like a meatball. "Hi, Meatball," I said, bringing her into my arms. I walked back in, touching her neck gently. Meatball seemed happy enough to come in the house, but after an hour or two, she sat by the door, meowing to go back outside.
"Why won't she just stay in with us all the time?" Nathan, my youngest son, asked.
I explained to him that she was happy here but she liked being able to come and go as she pleased. "That must be nice," Jordan muttered from the other room, complaining why the cat, not him, could me and go. He even asked me to give Meatball a curfew. Meatball became a regular.
One night , temperatures were unusually low. Meatball stood at the door, meowing to go outside. I shook my head at her, afraid that she might freeze to death. She stared at me and meowed again. I patted her head, "I know you're not happy, but it's for your own good. "
"Mom is not being mean to you," Nathan told the cat. "She's just trying to keep you from turning so a frozen meatball." We both laughed at his joke.
The next morning, I couldn't find Meatball. I asked the kids if anyone had seen her.

B. How the tiger jumped out.
C. That the tiger was not hungry.
【答案】 18.B 19. C 20. C
M: Hello, listeners. It's time for six o'clock news. Yesterday some visitors to City Zoo had an unpleasant shock when they came face to face with an adult male tiger. The tiger was found by a mother and her two small children yesterday afternoon. The mother, Elaine Wilson, had gone down to the lake to take a photo when she saw the tiger, who was coming out of the water. She phoned the police and within five minutes they arrived with the zookeeper. The tiger was soon caught and luckily hadn't attacked anyone. Zookeeper Eddie Hewson said he was not sure how the tiger had escaped. None of the tigers at the zoo had ever escaped before. All the cage doors were locked so he though the tiger was somehow able to jump over the fence. He also didn’t know exactly when the tiger escaped. The last time when it was seen was at 8:00 a.m. and it was found at 3:00 p.m., so it was probably missing for at least five hours. The only thing he is sure about is that the tiger wasn’t hungry because it'd eaten a large breakfast.

【答案】24.A 25.C 26.B 27.D

【答案】28.B 29.A 30.B 31.D
根据第一段“Children seem to care so much about their names. A study shows that most young people wish their parents had given them a different name. (孩子们似乎很在意自己的名字。一项研究表明,大多数年轻人希望父母给他们起个不同的名字)”可知,大多数年轻人都很在意自己的名字。故选B项。
29.推理判断题。根据第二段中“Some people choose to change their names when they grow up. Many people in show business don’t use the names their parents gave them. Have you ever listened to Joanne? No? The answer could be “yes” if we call her stage name instead! (有些人长大后选择改名。演艺圈的很多人都不用父母给他们起的名字。你听过Joanne的歌吗没有?如果我们叫她的艺名,答案可能是“是”)”可知,此处先提到有些人长大后选择改名的现象,然后提到Joanne这个名字,说明她用其他的名字作为艺名。由此可知,提到Joanne是为了证明有些人希望改名。故选A项。
根据第四段中“Choosing a good name isn’t easy. Many parents search books that tell them the meanings of names. They could choose a name that carries a message.
【答案】32.C 33.D 34.B 35.A
根据第一段中“More recently, boxing has become the mainstream in the UK, with hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life participating in the sport every week. But why? The answer lies in the physical, mental and even social benefits boxing can bring.(最近,拳击已经成为英国的主流运动,每周都有成千上万来自各行各业的人参加这项运动。但是为什么呢?答案在于拳击可以带来的身体、精神甚至社会效益)”以及第二段中“Its physical benefits are clear. (它对身体的好处是显而易见的)”;以及第三段中“But the high physical demands of the sport aren’t just good for the body — boxing can also have a positive impact on someone’s mental well-being. (但这项运动对身体的高要求不仅对身体有好处,拳击还能对人的心理健康产生积极影响)”以及第四段中“And there is a third benefit of putting on the boxing gloves. Practicing punches can be done alone, of course, but boxing is not just an individual activity — it also involves working with others to train and stay safe.

根据倒数第二段中“Dr Gavin Williams, Senior Lecturer in Education at the Open University, says that this cooperation and team work can create a sense of identity and belonging. So, no matter what the reason that attracts someone to boxing, the interactive elements of the sport mean it can also have profound social benefits.(开放大学教育高级讲师Gavin Williams博士说,这种合作和团队合作可以创造一种认同感和归属感。所以,无论是什么原因吸引人们参与拳击运动,这项运动的互动元素意味着它也能带来深远的社会效益)”可知,Gavin威廉姆斯博士提到了团队合作和团队工作可以带来身份认同和归属感,因此与人一起练习拳击是最好的选择。故选B。
35.主旨大意题。根据第一段中“More recently, boxing has become the mainstream in the UK, with hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life participating in the sport every week. But why? The answer lies in the physical, mental and even social benefits boxing can bring.(最近,拳击已经成为英国的主流运动,每周都有成千上万来自各行各业的人参加这项运动。但是为什么呢?答案在于拳击可以带来的身体、精神甚至社会效益)”以及通读全文可知,本文主要介绍了拳击运动对身体健康、心理健康以及社交互动的益处,解释了为何越来越多的人参与这项运动。由此可知,A选项“The benefits of boxing(拳击的好处)”能够概括文章主要内容,适合作本文标题。故选A。

故填including。

注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右;

____________________________________________________________________________________________
____________________________________________________________________________________________
____________________________________________________________________________________________
____________________________________________________________________________________________
____________________________________________________________________________________________【答案】Paragraph 1:
(As I drove to the animal hospital)可知,第一段最后一句描写"我"和 Jordan 决定带着"肉丸"去医院。 (Jordan sat in the back, holding Meatball inside his coat)描述 Jordan 抱着"肉丸“时的心理动作。④结局-“肉丸"得救了。⑤升华主题,Jordan通过本次事件得到了成长并且理解了妈妈让他遵守宵禁的做法。
2. 词汇激活
愤怒的:furious
寒冷的:freezing
压抑,忍住:choke back
眼睛里充满了恐惧:fear welled up in sb’s eyes
为某事道歉:apologize for (doing) sth.
喉咙哽咽:feel a lump in one’s throat
为了某人自己好:for sb’s own good
