Text 10
W: What do you wear when you take a trip? Most of us choose comfortable clothes like T-shirts and jeans. But Wang Tata, a post-1990s office clerk in Shanghai, is different. She prefers to wear hanfu. “Wherever the scenery matches, I wear hanfu” she said.
Wang is not the only one who turns to the traditional clothing. According to the data, there were almost seven million Chinese hanfu consumers in 2021, twice the number in 2019. A recent report estimated that by the end of this year, the total sales are expected to reach 10.16 billion yuan.
For Qingzhi, a student, wearing hanfu to class every day gives her inspiration. With a history of more than 3,000 years, hanfu had different styles in different dynasties. By matching the clothing with modem accessories, she can find a unique look.
Unlike Qingzhi, Wan Yue, a mother of two, became a hanfu fan for the sense of community. Wan not only wears hanfu in her daily life, but also learns about the culture and history behind the clothing.
As a symbol of Chinese aesthetics, hanfu has made a contribution to the revival of Chinese fashion style.

D 22. A 23. B
根据第二款自行车介绍部分的“Temples have fewer proprietary (品牌专卖的) parts and so are serviceable in any bike shop. Stylish as they may be, the VanMoofs and the Cowboys can be a bit more complex to get back-up and service.(Temples的专用部件较少,因此在任何自行车商店都可以维修。尽管VanMoofs和Cowboys可能很时髦,但要获得支持和服务可能会有点复杂。)”可知,Temples比其他时尚的电动自行车品牌的优势是它们更容易获得服务。故选D。
【22题详解】推理判断题。根据最后一款车的介绍部分的“This is a prime example of the attention to detail delivering a high-quality experience in functionality, comfort and practicality— if you can afford it.(如果你能负担得起的话,这是一个注重细节,在功能、舒适和实用性方面提供高质量体验的典型例子。)” 故选A。
通读全文,尤其是第一段的“Now, Cycling Electric, designed to help consumers choose an ebike, offers the following recommendations.(现在,旨在帮助消费者选择电动自行车的Cycling Electric提供了以下建议。)”
根据第二段的““I saw it as an art that combines tradition and modernity, which was mostly the reason why I liked it,” says Filippi.(Filippi说:“我认为这是一种结合了传统与现代的艺术,这也是我喜欢它的主要原因。”)”
根据倒数第二段的“Two of his friends shared videos of his performances on social media, and the response was overwhelming. One video garnered 500, 000 views, while the other received 200, 000 views.(他的两个朋友在社交媒体上分享了他的表演视频,反响非常热烈。其中一个视频获得了50万次观看,而另一个则获得了20万次观看)”可推知,作者通过列出数字说明Filippi的视频的受欢迎程度。故选C。
【26题详解】推理判断题。根据最后一段的“Filippi believes that learning about different cultures is priceless, and he sees it as a means of personal growth.(Filippi认为学习不同的文化是无价的,他认为这是个人成长的一种方式)”可推知,从最后一段可以推断出接受不同的文化能促进个人成长。
通读全文,尤其是第一段的“Having spent more than a decade on the dance floor, ROME— Niccolo Filippi, a 23-year-old Italian dance performer, recently decided to explore Chinese culture and its traditional dance forms and believes that this experience will not only boost his career, but also broaden his horizons beyond the world of dance.(23岁的意大利舞蹈演员Niccolo Filippi在舞池ROME里呆了十多年,最近他决定探索中国文化及其传统舞蹈形式,并相信这段经历不仅会促进他的职业生涯,还会拓宽他在舞蹈世界之外的视野)”可知,本文主要讲的是意大利舞蹈演员Niccolo Filippi最近决定探索中国文化及其传统舞蹈形式,并相信这段经历不仅会促进他的职业生涯,还会拓宽他在舞蹈世界之外的视野。由此可知,D选项“An Italian dancer shows passion for Chinese-styled dance.(一位意大利舞者对中国风格的舞蹈表现出热情)”能够概括本文主旨。故选D。
C
Design:A Very Short Introduction《设计:无处不在/牛津通识读本》,作者John Heskett。
根据文章第二段 “Not surprisingly, in the absence of widespread agreement about its significance and value, much confusion surrounds design practice. 毫不奇怪,在其意义和价值的广泛一致认同缺失的情况下,许多混乱围绕着设计实践。可知,不同领域对设计的不同理解导致的混乱。故选A。
通过文章第四段“Design is one of the basic characteristics of what it is to be human, and an essential determinant of the quality of human life. If things are a necessary part of our existence, why are they often done so badly? There is no simple answer. Cost factors are sometimes advanced, but the margin between doing something well or badly can be exceedingly small, and cost factors can in fact be reduced by appropriate design inputs. (设计是人类生活质量的基本特征之一,也是人类生活质量的基本决定因素。如果事物是我们存在的必要组成部分,为什么它们经常做得如此糟糕?没有一个简单的答案。成本因素有时是先进的,但把事情做得好或做得不好之间的差距可能非常小,而成本因素实际上可以通过适当的设计投入来降低。)”可推知,很多方面都可以通过适当的设计而有所改善。故选D。
31. C 细节理解。 通过文章最后一段“ The intention is to extend the spectrum of what is understood by the term, and examine the breadth of design practice as it affects everyday life in a diversity of cultures.(其意图是扩大“设计”一词所理解的范围,审查设计实践的广度,因为它影响到文化多样性中的日常生活。)”
D
A 33. C 34. A 35. B
根据文章第一段第五句话“The EC theory suggests our body is also responsible for thinking or problem-solving. More precisely, the mind shapes the body and the body shapes the mind in equal measure.(EC理论表明,我们的身体也负责思考或解决问题。更准确地说,思维塑造身体,身体同等程度地塑造思维。)”可推知,EC理论让我们更接近人类认知的真相。故选A。
根据文章第二段第四句话“They don’t have emotions so much as need — they don’t feel sad, they’re just hungry and need food. Even unborn babies can feel their mothers’ heartbeats and this has a calming effect. In the real world, they cry when they’re cold and then get hugged. That way, they start to associate being warm with being loved.(他们没有如同需要那么多的情感——他们不会感到悲伤,他们只是饿,需要食物。即使是未出生的婴儿也能感觉到母亲的心跳,这具有镇静作用。在现实世界中,他们冷了就哭,然后被拥抱。这样,他们开始将温暖与被爱联系起来)”可推知,新生儿对周围环境的理解依靠的是身体感觉。故选C。
【34题详解】推理判断题。根据第五段第一句话“For further proof, we can look at the metaphors (比喻) that we use without even thinking.(为了进一步证明,我们可以看看我们不假思索就使用的比喻)”和第四段第一句话“Further studies have backed up the mind-body interaction.(更多的研究支持了身心互动)”可知,两个自然段都是为了证明上文第三段EC的观点“Older Western philosophers and mainstream language researchers believe this is fact, while EC theorises that the brain and body are working together as an organic supercomputer, processing everything and forming your reactions.(年长的西方哲学家和主流语言研究人员认为这是事实,而EC理论认为大脑和身体作为一台有机的超级计算机协同工作,处理一切并形成反应)”。 故选A。
根据最后一段第一句话“Now that you have the knowledge of mind-body interaction, why not use it? (既然您已经掌握了身心互动的知识,为什么不使用它呢?)”以及下文中列举的两种现实生活中的情况“If you’re having a bad day, a warm cup of tea will give you a flash of pleasure. If you know you’re physically cold, warm up before making any interpersonal decisions. (如果你今天过得很糟糕,一杯温暖的茶会给你带来一瞬间的快乐。如果你知道自己身体很冷,在做出任何人际关系决定之前先热身。)”可推知,最后一段作者鼓励读者把 EC 理论运用于现实生活中。故选B。

【40题详解】后文“For example, during the Great Vowel Shift five hundred years ago, the pronunciation of vowels in English changed dramatically. This shift represents the biggest difference between the pronunciation of Middle English and Modern English.(例如,在500年前的元音大推移期间,英语元音的发音发生了巨大变化。这种转变体现了中世纪英语和现代英语发音的最大区别。)”介绍的是语言变化的发音方面,A项“Changes in sound are somewhat harder to document but just as interesting.(声音的变化很难记录,但同样有趣。)” 故选A。

Dear fellow students,
Currently, labor education has been increasingly attached great importance to, but some students just bury themselves in books, believing that labor is a waste of time. However, it is necessary for us to do it.
Actually, time spent laboring is rewarding. It can promote our practical skills, strong will, unity and cooperation. Meanwhile, we will also be given the precious chances to contribute our share and rewarded with a spiritual fulfillment.
Therefore, actively engage in labor and take our obligation both at home and at school. It will turn out to be very beneficial and essential.

Harold suddenly noticed an envelope on the bed. It was addressed to him. He opened it and was surprised to find a check inside and a note that read: You’d saved a boy’s mother years before. Thank you so much for the three packs of medicine, and two portions of food.” Immediately, Harold remembered the boy he had helped a long time ago. He went to the nurse station and asked them who visited Riley. The nurse told him there was no one except the doctor. Harold came to realize the doctor was exactly that boy.
He ran to the doctor’s office and hugged him. "Thank you, son," Harold cried. The doctor said, "It’s me who should say thanks. That day, you saved my mother’s life. Since then, I promised myself that I would study hard to become a doctor to help more people. Now I have achieved the dream." "I am proud of you," Harold said with excitement. The doctor smiled and promised to arrange the operation for Riley soon and take care of her during her hospitalization. Riley realized that what her dad said was true—the good you put out into the world will find its way back to you.

The ebike has become an essential item, and even the King has been spotted riding one. According to the market research company Mintel, sales have almost tripled over the past five years. While ebikes have become increasingly commonplace, they are still undeniably expensive. You can pick up a perfectly adequate push bike for £300, but most ebikes cost nearly £2,000. Now, Cycling Electric, designed to help consumers choose an ebike, offers the following recommendations.
Best folding bike
Carbo Model X
Price: £2, 799 | Weight: 13.3kg
Range: up to 34 miles
This is one of the most convenient bikes from a little-known label. The lightweight Carbo X is the perfect example of convenience thanks to its carbon frame and belt drive, instead of a metal bike chain. This makes it lighter and less likely to get messy than an electric Brompton, with its more traditional, oily chain.
Most stylish
Temple Cycles Classic
Price: from £2, 995 | Weight: 19kg
Range: up to 74 miles
This Bristol-based brand is known for its elegant pushbikes, which are hand-built in the city. This is its electric version. It’s a very sleek and functional commuter option and not too heavy. Temples have fewer proprietary (品牌专卖的) parts and so are serviceable in any bike shop. Stylish as they may be, the VanMoofs and the Cowboys can be a bit more complex to get back-up and service.
The money-no-object option
Riese & Müller Nevo4 GT Vario GX
Price: £5, 380 | Weight: 28.4kg
Range: up to 93 miles
This is a prime example of the attention to detail delivering a high-quality experience in functionality, comfort and practicality — if you can afford it. It has the capacity to handle 25kg of luggage in a pannier, powerful road lights and a beautifully smooth motor.
21. What is the advantage of the Temples over other stylish ebike brands?
A. They are more lightweight. B. They have more functions.
C. They are more comfortable. D. They have easier access to service.
22. Which ebike will a consumer probably choose, who cares most about an excellent experience?
A. Riese & Müller Nevo4 GT Vario GX. B. Carbo Model X.
C. The VanMoofs and the Cowboys. D. Temple Cycles Classic.
23. Where is the text probably taken from?
A. An online post. B. A magazine column.
C. A market research report. D. An official document.

Having spent more than a decade on the dance floor, ROME — Niccolo Filippi, a 23-year-old Italian dance performer, recently decided to explore Chinese culture and its traditional dance forms and believes that this experience will not only boost his career, but also broaden his horizons beyond the world of dance.
His interest in diversifying his skills grew after he stumbled upon a short video of traditional Chinese-styled dance on YouTube. “I saw it as an art that combines tradition and modernity, which was mostly the reason why I liked it,” says Filippi.
Ever since, he has been closely following Chinese dance performers and watching numerous videos to learn more about the traditional style that he admires. “I prefer the traditional style because of its light movements. It also reflects my personality with elegance,” he adds.
Filippi’s chance came when he was invited to perform for a Chinese New Year celebration in the central Italian city of Florence. He has since fully committed himself to the art form, learning several pieces and putting his newfound passion into practice.
“The biggest difference that I found (compared to other disciplines) is the change of mood and emotional expressions among dances,” says Filippi, adding that he needed to shift from the dynamic moves of hip-hop to the graceful and fluid movements of Chinese dance. Despite various obstacles, Filippi’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. Two of his friends shared videos of his performances on social media, and the response was overwhelming. One video obtained 500,000 views, while the other received 200,000 views.
Filippi believes that learning about different cultures is priceless, and he sees it as a means of personal growth. “I like to think of a person as a book,” he says. “Embracing different traditions and cultures, such as Chinese culture and many others, is like adding new chapters to my book, making it more diverse and wonderful.”
24. What is the main reason why Filippi falls in love with traditional Chinese dance?
A. Its potential to boost his career. B. Its mix of traditional and modern elements.
C. Its graceful and light movements. D. Its true reflection of his elegant personality.
25. How does the author illustrate the popularity of Filippi’s videos?
A. By sharing a story. B. By giving an example.
C. By listing numbers. D. By making a comparison.
26. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. Filippi thinks little of learning from other cultures.
B. Accepting various cultures boosts personal growth.
C. People prefer to write down their past experiences.
D. A book with chapters on traditions is more wonderful.
27. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Chinese-styled dance videos go viral on social media.
B. An Italian’s dance journey towards specialization starts.
C. Filippi’s desire for Chinese culture extends beyond dance.
D. An Italian dancer shows passion for Chinese-styled dance.

One of the most curious features of the modern world is the manner in which design has been widely transformed into something meaningless. But I want to argue design should be the crucial block on which the human environment is shaped and constructed for the betterment and delight of all.
Not surprisingly, in the absence of widespread agreement about its significance and value, much confusion surrounds design practice. In some subject areas, authors can assume common ground with readers. Other subject areas can be so difficult that no such common understanding exists.
Design sits uncomfortably between these two extremes. As a word it is common enough, but it is full of disharmony, has innumerable manifestations (表现), and lacks boundaries that give clarity and definition. As a practice, design generates vast quantities of material, much of it ephemeral, only a small proportion of which has sustained quality.
So how can design be understood in a meaningful sense? Design is one of the basic characteristics of what it is to be human, and an essential determinant of the quality of human life. If things are a necessary part of our existence, why are they often done so badly? There is no simple answer. Cost factors are sometimes advanced, but the remove between doing something well or badly can be extremely small, and cost factors can in fact be reduced by appropriate design inputs.
This book is based on a belief that design matters greatly to us all in innumerable ways and represents an area of huge, underused potential in life. It sets out to explore some reasons why this is so and to suggest some possibilities of change. The intention is to extend the range of what is understood by the term, and examine the depth of design practice as it affects everyday life in a diversity of cultures.
28. What is paragraph 2 of the text mainly about?
A. The causes of confusion. B. The significance of design.
C. The differences in subjects. D. The common ground in people.
29. What does the underlined word“ephemeral”in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Meaningful. B. Enormous. C. Hard-wearing. D. Short-lived.
30. What do we know about design?
A. Design is just about arts or trends.
B. Cost factors account for inadequate design.
C. The author argues that design is meaningless .
D. Very few are incapable of improvement by proper design.
31. What is the book aimed at?
A. Reducing design inputs.
B. Denying previous conception of design.
C. Persisting in meaningful design practices.
D. Clarifying the confusion surrounding design.
D
Is it true that our brain alone is responsible for human cognition (认知)? What about our body? Is it possible for thought and behaviour to originate from somewhere other than our brain? Psychologists who study Embodied Cognition (EC) ask similar questions. The EC theory suggests our body is also responsible for thinking or problem-solving. More precisely, the mind shapes the body and the body shapes the mind in equal measure.
If you think about it for a moment, it makes total sense. When you smell something good or hear amusing sounds, certain emotions are awakened. Think about how newborns use their senses to understand the world around them. They don’t have emotions so much as needs — they don’t feel sad, they’re just hungry and need food. Even unborn babies can feel their mothers’ heartbeats and this has a calming effect. In the real world, they cry when they’re cold and then get hugged. That way, they start to associate being warm with being loved.
Understandably, theorists have been arguing for years and still disagree on whether the brain is the nerve centre that operates the rest of the body. Older Western philosophers and mainstream language researchers believe this is fact, while EC theorises that the brain and body are working together as an organic supercomputer, processing everything and forming your reactions.
Further studies have backed up the mind-body interaction. In one experiment, test subjects were asked to judge people after being handed a hot or a cold drink. They all made warm evaluations when their fingertips perceived warmth rather than coolness. And it works the other way too. In another study, subjects’ fingertip temperatures were measured after being “included” in or “rejected” from a group task. Those who were included felt physically warmer.
For further proof, we can look at the metaphors (比喻) that we use without even thinking. A kind and sympathetic person is frequently referred to as one with a soft heart and someone who is very strong and calm in difficult situations is often described as solid as a rock. And this kind of metaphorical use is common across languages.
Now that you have the knowledge of mind-body interaction, why not use it? If you’re having a bad day, a warm cup of tea will give you a flash of pleasure. If you know you’re physically cold, warm up before making any interpersonal decisions.
32. According to the author, what is the significance of EC?
A. It brings us closer to the truth in human cognition.
B. It offers a clearer picture of the shape of human brain.
C. It reveals the major role of the mind in human cognition.
D. It facilitates our understanding of the origin of psychology.
33. Where does the newborns’ understanding of their surroundings start from?
A. Their personal looks. B. Their mental needs.
C. Their physical feelings. C. Their inner emotions.
34. What does the author intend to prove by citing the metaphors in Paragraph 5?
A. Human senses have effects on thinking.
B. Human speech is alive with metaphors.
C. Human language is shaped by visual images.
D. Human emotions are often compared to natural materials.
35. What is the author’s purpose in writing the last paragraph?
A. To deepen the readers’ understanding of EC.
B. To encourage the reader to put EC into practice.
C. To guide the reader onto the path to career success.
D To share with the reader ways to release their emotions.
In some ways, it is surprising that languages change. After all, they are passed down through the generations reliably enough for parents and children to communicate with each other. 36 For example, while Japanese has changed relatively little over a thousand years, English evolved rapidly in just a few centuries. Many present day speakers find Shakespear’s sixteenth-century plays difficult and Chaucer’s fourteenth-century The Canterbury Tales nearly impossible to read.
Languages change for a variety of reasons. Large-scale shifts often occur in response to social, economic, and political pressures, as there are many examples of language change fueled by invasions, colonization, and migration. 37 Frequently, the needs of speakers drive language change. New technologies industries, products and experiences simply require new words. By using new and emerging terms, we all drive language change. But the unique way that individuals speak also fuels language change because no two individuals use a language in exactly the same way. 38 Through our day-to-day interactions, we pick up words and savings from other people and integrate them into our speech. Teens and young adults, for example, often use different words and phrases from their parents. Some of them spread through the population and slowly change the language.
39 Vocabulary can change quickly as new words are borrowed from other languages, or as words get coined, combined, or shortened. Some words are even created through misinterpretation of form. As noted in the Linguistic Society of America’s publication Is English Changing?, the word pea is one such example. Up until about four hundred years ago, pease could refer to either a single pea or many peas. At some point, people assumed that pease was the plural (复数的) form of a new word, pea, based on the way pease sounded. While vocabulary can change quickly, sentence structure — the order of words in a sentence changes more slowly. 40 For example, during the Great Vowel (元音) Shift five hundred years ago, the pronunciation of vowels in English changed dramatically. This shift represents the biggest difference between the pronunciation of Middle English and Modern English.
A. Changes in sound are somewhat harder to document but just as interesting.
B. As long as people are using a language, that language will undergo some change.
C. All natural languages change, and language change affects all areas of language use.
D. Yet linguists find that all living languages change over time — at different rates though.
E. The three main areas of language that change over time are vocabulary, sentence structure, and pronunciation.
F. Even without these kinds of influences, a language can change dramatically if enough users adopt a new way of speaking.
G. The vocabulary and phrases people use depend on where they live, their age, education level, social status and other factors.

Harold raised his daughter Riley alone. One day, Harold noticed a young teenage boy standing in front of a drugstore. He approached him, and found out that the boy wanted to buy medicine for his sick mother, but had no money. The boy cried out, “If I don’t bring home medicine, my mom will die. But I won’t be able to handle it.”
Upon hearing this, Harold didn’t hesitate to pay for the medicine. “I’ll pay for the medicine on his behalf,” he said, handing the pharmacist (药剂师) a couple of bills from his pocket. The boy looked at Harold with grateful eyes, and cried, “Thank you so much. You are heaven-sent.”
“There will always be people willing to help you, son,” Harold told him before handing him two portions of food. “Here, take this to your mom and have a hot meal with her,” he said before letting the boy go.
His daughter Riley saw the whole scene and said, “Dad, we have barely enough money. Why did you pay for the medicine?” “Riley, the good you put out into the world will eventually find its way back to you. Just keep doing good,” Harold told his daughter.
When Riley turned thirty, she needed an operation urgently after being told there was something wrong with her heart. With difficulty breathing, Harold rushed Riley to the hospital in an ambulance. “You’ll be alright, Riley,” he cried. “Don’t worry; Daddy is here. We’ll get through this together,” he promised her.
Harold did try his best to find the money for his daughter’s operation. He asked all of his friends, but it was still not enough. Therefore, Harold decided to sell their house. It was enough to pay for her operation, but they would be left with nothing. “It’s okay,” he told himself. “I will be able to earn money again, but if I lose my daughter, nothing will ever bring her back.”
By the time Harold made it back to the hospital, Riley was in her hospital room, weak and pale. He sat beside her bed and held her hand. “You’ll be okay, my sweet daughter. We’ll soon have the money for the operation,” he promised her.
