Hello, I’d like to introduce you to the Rainforest Café! Our world-famous restaurant chain is designed with the South American rainforests in mind. From the first step inside, our guests are greeted with sounds of rainforest animals like monkeys and parrots. As you go to the dining room, you’ll pass between large tanks filled with beautiful rainforest fish. Don’t be worried if you see a wild animal — they aren’t real! We just want our customers to see examples of animals that are dying out. Because that’s the real purpose of the Rainforest Café — we want to help people learn about the beauty of places that are quickly being destroyed. Rainforests are very important to all living things on earth. But they are being cut down at an alarming rate. They’re being burned and cut down to make space for farms and more houses. At the Rainforest Café, we want to help the public learn about the beauty and usefulness of rainforests. We also serve dishes inspired by traditional South American food. Our waiters serve each main dish with a story about the culture it comes from. We invite you to share an amazing experience with us. Get ready for your next adventure!

I had quite a few vegetable plants left over after having planted the ones that I needed in my garden, and as I couldn’t bear to throw the remainder, I decided to hold a plant sale by the side of the road. I’d 30 small tomato plants fora start and added to this cabbage, brussel sprouts and purple broccoli.
After a few hours, I’d recovered the cost of the compost (堆肥), and I could tell that passers-by were enjoying the bargains (交易), so I went in search of more plants from those that I’d still to plant out. In came the French beans, mangetout, and peas and I could add some strawberry runners to the mix. Honestly, I could have sold twice as much — maybe next year!
The highlight was the first day I was in the kitchen writing the price list when I noticed a car running along the road and back into our drive. I went out to find a young lady on her way to work and we chatted. She’d told me that she worked at a centre for autistic (自闭症) children and that although they had a garden of sorts, it was filled with pots of weeds and that she intended on brightening it up.
She bought a dozen or so plants, strawberries and tomatoes. I mentioned other plants that would work well for her including sweet peas, and told her how picking the flowers each day would help bring forth even more and how they had such a sweet smell. Then there came that little touch to my heart which said, “Don’t you have some plates of marigolds that you were saving for your own garden?” I didn’t need to be touched twice over. So I said, “Wait a minute, marigolds would do just as well,” and brought her out a plate.

A. She threw them all away. B. She sent them to her friends.
C. She used them as compost. D. She sold them to passers-by.

A. To stop her car in the parking lot.
B. To buy vegetable plants from the author.
C. To advise the author to work at the centre.
D. To show the author’s knowledge of autistic children.
26. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. The young lady cannot afford the marigolds.
B. The young lady got three kinds of plants in the end.
C. The author only gave the young lady leftover plants.
D. The author helped the young lady as much as possible.
27. Which word can be used to describe the author?

Zimbabwe is experiencing its worst drought in years, with little rain and bad weather patterns affecting wildlife and attractions across the country and worsening livelihoods. Victoria Falls, which draws about one million tourists per year, has been reduced to a trickle (细流) in parts. While the falls typically slow down during the dry season between September and December, officials say this year has brought an unexpected decline in water levels.
The situation is creating more causes for concern that climate change could kill one of the region’s largest tourist attractions. However, despite the present state of the falls, Ilala Lodge — an accommodation provider located minutes away from Victoria Falls — says that even during low water flow periods, Victoria Falls is still “an impressive natural phenomenon”.
Officials say this year’s drought season is much drier and hotter than usual. As a result, the country’s national parks, which depend heavily on tourism, and wildlife across the country are suffering. “We’ve seen some pretty bad ones,” David Macfarland of Mwinilunga Safaris says. “When you see animals walking along — elephants, for example — and they just collapse (倒下) on their legs, they don’t even roll over. They just collapse and die — it’s very emotionally moving.” More than 200 elephants have died over the last two months due to a lack of water at the country’s main conservation (保护) zones in Mana Pools and Hwange National Park. Parks and wildlife authority spokesperson Tinashe Farawo says that the operation to move the animals from Savé Valley Conservancy to three other reserves in the north of the country will begin during the rainy season.
Furthermore, the country’s population faces a food crisis, with 5.5 million people facing food insecurity. In urban areas, about 2.2 million people are food-insecure and lack access to minimal public services, including health and safe water.
28. What happens in Zimbabwe this year?
A. Local tourism is booming.
B. More people are being lifted out of poverty.
C. Dry weather is causing a series of bad effects.
D. Poor rains are leading to the extinction of wildlife.
29. What does Ilala Lodge think of Victoria Falls?
A. It is still attractive to tourists.
B. It will become a tourist attraction.
C. It needs to be protected by people.
D. It will disappear due to climate change.
30. What is the main idea of paragraph 3?
A. The officials’ attitudes to tourism.
B. The reasons for the lack of water.
C. The impact of drought on animals.
D. The ways to save endangered elephants.
31. Which of the following shows the structure of the whole text?
A. B.
C. D.
C 29. A 30. C 31. D

根据文章第二段第二句“However, despite the present state of the falls, Ill a Lodge — an accommodation provider located minutes away from Victoria Falls — says that even during low water flow periods, Victoria Falls is still “an impressive natural phenomenon”.(然而,距离维多利亚瀑布几分钟路程的住宿供应商Ill a Lodge表示,尽管瀑布目前的状况即使在低流量时期,维多利亚瀑布仍然是“一个令人印象深刻的自然现象”。)” 故选A项。
根据文章第三段“Officials say this year’s drought season is much drier and hotter than usual. As a result, the country’s national parks, which depend heavily on tourism, and wildlife across the country are suffering.(官员们表示,今年的干旱季节比往年更干燥、更热。因此,严重依赖旅游业的国家公园和全国各地的野生动物都受到了影响。)”以及后文大象的例子可知第三段主要讲的是极端的干旱对于动物的影响。故选C项。
【31题详解】
推理判断题。文章第一段“Zimbabwe is experiencing its worst drought in years, with little rain and bad weather patterns affecting wildlife and attractions across the country and worsening livelihoods.(津巴布韦正在经历多年来最严重的干旱,降雨少,恶劣的天气模式影响了全国各地的野生动物和景点,并使生计恶化。)”

People are flying more than ever. From short trips to traveling around the globe, many of us are on the move. But finding your way at the airport has never been easy in the US, due to crowding and a lot of tasks like checking in, taking care of baggage, screening and finding your gate. It is often difficult to get to where you are going. If you are in a wheelchair or visually challenged, it’s even harder.
The new terminal (航站楼) at Kansas City International Airport is designed to fix many of these shortcomings. The new facility features indoor play areas, changing rooms, and a quiet room for people who cannot handle the noise or activity of a busy airport. There is even a pet relief area for people traveling with animals. One innovation is the glass-walled jet bridge for people who are worried about getting on and off planes. Moreover, for individuals who experience discomfort with the entire procedure of airports and air travel, there exist virtual simulators (模拟器) that enable these travelers to experience the process of boarding and taking off in a simulated environment.
Justin Meyer from the Kansas City Aviation Department stated that the new terminal has set a new standard for inclusivity (包容性) that travelers expect to see in airports. “The goal isn’t that we’re forever at the head of the line,” Meyer said. “My goal was just to raise the bar, so if someone else wants to build the most accessible airport in the world, they’re going to have to start from where Kansas City stopped. In the end, passengers win.”
While making airports more accessible to people with different abilities may seem to be expensive or difficult, the benefits certainly outweigh the costs. Accessible airports mean that more people and their families will be able to travel and then the skies will be friendly to all.
32. What is the function of paragraph 1?
A. To call on airports to improve their services.
B To explain the background to the new terminal.
C. To stress the annoyance of frequent air travelers.
D. To show the complexity of boarding procedures.
33. Who are most likely to use the glass-walled jet bridge?
A. People using a wheelchair.
B. People accompanied by a pet.
C. People travelling with their babies.
D. People suffering from a fear of flying.
34. What can be inferred about the new terminal according to Justin Meyer?
A. It needs further improvement.
B. It has the best passenger services.
C. It aims to lead the world in accessibility.
D. It sets a higher standard for airport services.
35. What is the author’s attitude towards the Kansas City International Airport’s practice?
A. Supportive. B. Conservative.
C. Unprejudiced. D. Ambiguous.
B 33. D 34. D 35. A

根据第一段中“But finding your way at the airport has never been easy in the US, due to crowding and a lot of tasks like checking in, taking care of baggage, screening and finding your gate. It is often difficult to get to where you are going. If you are in a wheelchair or visually challenged, it’s even harder.(但在美国,在机场找路从来都不是件容易的事,因为机场很拥挤,还有很多事情要做,比如办理登机手续、照看行李、安检和找登机口。到达你要去的地方往往很困难。如果你坐在轮椅上或有视力障碍,那就更难了)”可知,在美国机场找路不是易事,因为机场很拥挤,而且还有很多事情要做,比如办理登机手续、照看行李、安检、找登机口。如果乘客坐轮椅或是视力不好,那么到达要去的地方会更加困难。由此推知,第一段的主要作用是介绍设计堪萨斯城国际机场新航站楼的背景。故选B。
【33题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中的“ One innovation is the glass-walled jet bridge for people who are worried about getting on and off planes.( 其中一项创新是玻璃幕墙的喷气桥,为那些担心上下飞机的人提供服务)”可知,有飞行焦虑的人最有可能使用玻璃幕墙式登机桥。
根据倒数第二段中的““My goal was just to raise the bar, so if someone else wants to build the most accessible airport in the world, they’re going to have to start from where Kansas City stopped. In the end, passengers win.”(“我的目标只是提高标准,所以如果其他人想要建造世界上最便利的机场,他们将不得不从堪萨斯城停止的地方开始。”最终,乘客是赢家。”)”可知,堪萨斯城国际机场的目标是提高标准,所以如果其他人想要建造世界上最便利的机场,将不得不从堪萨斯城停止的地方开始,即Justin Meyer认为新航站楼在机场服务方面设立了很高的标准。故选D。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“While making airports more accessible to people with different abilities may seem to be expensive or difficult, the benefits certainly outweigh the costs. Accessible airports mean that more people and their families will be able to travel and then the skies will be friendly to all.(虽然让不同能力的人更容易进入机场似乎是昂贵或困难的,但收益肯定大于成本。便利的机场意味着更多的人和他们的家人将能够旅行,然后天空将对所有人都友好)”可知,虽然使不同人群更容易进入机场可能看起来很昂贵或很困难,但其好处肯定超过了成本,便利的机场意味着更多的人和他们的家人将能够旅行,天空将对所有人都友好。因此,作者对堪萨斯城机场改进航空服务的做法持支持的态度。故选A。

根据上文“Preventing sports injuries isn’t always possible, but more often than not, common sports injuries are caused by a lack of proper safety equipment, overtraining, or incorrect form.(预防运动损伤并不总是可能的,但通常情况下,常见的运动损伤是由于缺乏适当的安全设备,过度训练或不正确的形式造成的)”可知,本句与上文构成因果关系,指出应该采取措施防止受伤。
根据上文“Remember to warm up and cool down properly before and after physical activity. Warming up with simple exercises makes your muscles (肌肉) more flexible and reduces injury risk.(记得在运动前后适当地热身和降温。做一些简单的热身运动可以让你的肌肉更灵活,减少受伤的风险)”以及紧接着下文提到学习伸展运动,可知,本句进一步说明热身运动的作用,故E选项“冷却有助于身体恢复到静止状态”符合语境,故选E。
【38题详解】
根据上文“Learn to stretch (伸展) regularly. It helps to increase range of motion, flexibility, and blood flow to muscles.(学会定期拉伸。
根据上文“Use proper form during physical activity.(在体育活动中使用适当的形式)”以及后文“When lifting weights, for example, be sure to use a weight that you can lift comfortably while still maintaining good form. If you’re not sure how to do an exercise correctly, ask a qualified personal trainer or coach for proper training.(举个例子,当你举重的时候,一定要用一个你能舒适举起的重量,同时保持良好的姿势。如果你不确定如何正确地做一项运动,请一位合格的私人教练或教练进行适当的训练)”可知,后文强调使用正确姿势的重要性,本句是对上文的进一步解释或强调,故D选项“这鼓励你减少对肌肉的压力”符合语境,故选D。
【40题详解】
根据后文“When you’re training for a big event, it’s important to schedule regular rest days into your workout routine. This gives your muscles time to recover from the stress of exercise, allows previous injuries to heal, and helps to prevent overtraining.(当你在为一个重大事件训练时,在你的锻炼计划中安排有规律的休息日是很重要的。这让你的肌肉有时间从运动的压力中恢复过来,让以前的受伤愈合,并有助于防止过度训练)”可知,本段主要强调了要给身体时间恢复,防止过度训练。故C选项“给你的身体足够的时间休息和恢复”符合语境,故选C。

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I was sitting next to Missy in my ninth-grade world history class when Mrs. Bartlett announced a new project. In groups, we were to create a newspaper around the culture we were studying.
On a piece of paper, we wrote the names of three friends we wanted in our group. After collecting all the requests, Mrs. Bartlett informed us that she would consider the names we chose and would let us know the results the next day. I had no doubt I would get the group of my choice. Only a few people behaved excellently in the class, and Missy was one of them. I knew we had chosen each other.
The next day, I anxiously waited for the class. After the bell rang, Missy and I stopped talking as Mrs. Bartlett called for our attention. She started to call out names. When she reached group three, Missy’s name was called. “So, I’m in group three,” I thought. The second, third and fourth members of the group were called. My name was not included. There had to be some mistake.
Then I heard it. The last group: “Mauro, Juliette, Rachel, Karina.” I could feel the tears well up in my eyes. How could I face being in that group — with the boy who rarely spoke English, the one girl who always got a bad grade, and the other girl who seldom talked to people. Oh, how badly I wanted to be with my friends.
I fought back tears as I walked up to Mrs. Bartlett. She looked at me and knew what I was there for. I was determined to convince her I should be in the “good” group. “Why...?” I started.
She gently placed a hand on my shoulder. “I know what you want, Karina,” she said, “but your group needs you. I need you to help them improve by completing this assignment. Only you can help them.”
I was stunned. I was confused. I was amazed. She had seen something in me I hadn’t seen.
“Will you help them?” she asked. “Yes,” I replied.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1: I bravely walked to where the others in my group sat.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2: Mrs. Bartlett gave us an A for that assignment.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 1: I bravely walked to where the others in my group sat. Surprisingly, they welcomed me with trust and friendliness in their eyes. Motivated, I explained the project to Mauro as clearly as I could and encouraged the girls to contribute to the project with what they were good at. “We could make the best team,” I assured them. Soon we figured out a plan and got down to our respective tasks: Mauro designed the pages, Juliette drew matching pictures, I collected materials about the culture, and Rachel wrote the text. Sometimes we disagreed, but finally, we delivered our best work.
Paragraph 2: Mrs. Bartlett gave us an A for that assignment. My mind went blank for a second, and then we four hugged each other. Our classmates came to congratulate us and Missy gave a thumbs-up to our newspaper shown on the screen and said, “I knew you could make it.” My teammates also thanked me for my help and trust, which made them feel more confident in working with others. But deep down I knew that we should thank Mrs. Bartlett for noticing the problems we faced and bringing out our hidden potential.

A. B.
C. D.
D
B. To explain the background to the new terminal.
C. To stress the annoyance of frequent air travelers.
D. To show the complexity of boarding procedures.
33. Who are most likely to use the glass-walled jet bridge?
A. People using a wheelchair.
B. People accompanied by a pet.
C. People travelling with their babies.
D People suffering from a fear of flying.
D. Ambiguous.

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
