一、Teaching Objectives
1. Students can correctly recognize and distinguish the phonetic symbols /au/, /p/, /ʃ/, /u:/, /u/, /ʌ/, /m/, /n/, /ŋ/.
2. Students can master the correct pronunciation of words containing these phonetic symbols and use them accurately in actual contexts.
3. Students can understand and apply the rising and falling tones in English sentences to enhance the accuracy and fluency of their oral expression.
二、Teaching Key and Difficult Points
1. Key points

- Naturally apply the rising and falling tones in oral expression to accurately convey meanings.
三、Teaching Methods
1. Instruction method: Explain the pronunciation methods and characteristics of phonetic symbols.
2. Demonstration method: The teacher demonstrates the pronunciation for students to imitate.
3. Practice method: Consolidate pronunciation and intonation through exercises such as word reading and sentence imitation.
四、Teaching Procedures
(一)Lead-in (5 minutes)
1. Play an English song or an animation clip to arouse students' interest.
2. Ask students to notice the phonetic features during listening and guide them to pay attention to English pronunciation.
(二)Presentation (15 minutes)
1. Present the phonetic symbols /au/, /p/, /ʃ/, /u:/, /u/, /ʌ/, /m/, /n/, /ŋ/, and explain the pronunciation positions and methods of each phonetic symbol.
- For example, /au/ is a diphthong composed of two vowels /a/ and /u/. When pronouncing, first open the mouth wide to pronounce the sound of /a/, and then gradually close the lips to pronounce the sound of /u/, such as "now", "out".
- For consonant phonetic symbols, such as /p/, close the lips tightly when pronouncing and then suddenly release to let the air burst out, such as "pen", "pig".
2. Demonstrate the pronunciation combined with words and let students follow.
(三)Practice (15 minutes)
1. Activity 1: Students listen to the text recording and pay attention to the pronunciation of the colored letters. After listening, ask students to try to say the words containing the key phonetic symbols they heard.
2. Activity 2: Students listen to the pronunciations of words and distinguish the pronunciations of different phonetic symbols. The teacher leads the reading of words, and students follow and imitate the pronunciations.
3. Activity 3: Students listen and circle the word with a different sound of the colored letters in each group. The teacher checks the answers and emphasizes the differences in pronunciations again.
4. Activity 4: Students listen to the following sentences and pay attention to the rising and falling tones. The teacher explains the application rules of rising and falling tones in different types of sentences.
(四)Consolidation (5 minutes)
1. Students practice reading words and sentences in groups and correct each other's pronunciations and intonations.
2. The teacher selects some students for presentation, gives affirmation and encouragement, and points out existing problems at the same time.
3. Carry out small games, such as "Guess the Phonetic Symbol", the teacher pronounces and students guess which phonetic symbol it is.
(五)Summary (5 minutes)
1. Review the knowledge of phonetic symbols and intonation learned in this class with students.
2. Emphasize the importance of correct pronunciation and intonation in English learning.
五、Teaching Reflection
In this class, I helped students master the knowledge of phonetic symbols and intonation through various activities and exercises. Judging from the students' performance in class, most students were able to actively participate in the activities and basically master the pronunciations of key phonetic symbols and the intonation of sentences. However, some students still have difficulties in distinguishing similar phonetic symbols, such as /u:/ and /u/, and need more targeted practice in the subsequent teaching.
