Children are always interested in them, and they want to go there in person. 1. B This kind of tour allows parents and children to deepen their understanding of the scenes (场景) mentioned in the textbooks. Many families have taken part in the textbook tour. 2. C They can understand the cultural background and experience the historical period in the textbooks. For example, in Fuzhou, parents and children can watch lively shows and visit the museums to learn more about the famous writer Tang Xianzu in the Ming Dynasty. In addition, they can learn about the local customs. 3. A The textbook tour is a connection between “ reading thousands of books ” and “ travelling thousands of miles”. 4. E Besides, the textbook tour further increases children􀆳s pride in their motherland. It also helps them learn about the excellent traditional culture of China. The rise of the textbook tour is a great chance for the connection between culture and tourism. For example, the Wenchuan government holds some activities on the birthday of Dayu. 5. D This spreads local culture and provides an unforgettable experience for tourists. As the textbook tour becomes a new fashion, the government should offer warm services to achieve a win-win situation for both scenic spots and tourists. A. This further makes their journey colorful. B. That􀆳s why the textbook tour has become popular these days. C. They follow the stories in the textbooks and choose places to travel. D. Hug a tree! Recently, many Chinese young people have turned to trees to lower stress. It sounds strange. 1. D US scientist Edward Wilson pointed out that humans were born to love being around other living things. Human􀆳s love for nature is “ in our DNA”. 2. E It􀆳s also one of the reasons why people love cute pets. Some scientists have studied why tree-hugging can help with our health. A study in 2021 reported that the activity can create more oxytocin(催产素). 3. C The higher the level of oxytocin is, the happier we may be. Hugging trees for only 21 seconds can lead to an increase in oxytocin. Hugging trees also helps cut cortisol (皮质醇) production, which makes us feel better. 4. A The brain produces more cortisol when the person is worried, angry, or very sad. Although the activity is helpful to us, it􀆳s important to keep in mind that we shouldn􀆳t hurt nature while hugging trees. Trees play a valuable role in our environment. Many small living things live in the trees. 5. B You need to be gentle when hugging trees—just like how you hug a friend! A. Cortisol is a sign of stress. B. And they are too small to be seen. C. It􀆳s something connected with feelings. D. However, there􀆳s some science behind the act of tree-hugging. E. His idea helps to explain why people prefer natural views(景色) to city views. Passage 10 Do you want to be an astronaut in the future? Every year on April 24, it􀆳s Space Day of China. 1. C The successful manned space missions are a big part of it. 2. A When astronauts go to space, they face many challenges. In space, there is very little gravity, which can make their bodies feel different. They also have to spend a long time away from their families and friends in a small spaceship. 3. B And if something goes wrong during their mission, they have to figure out how to fix it quickly while under a lot of pressure. That􀆳s why astronauts have to be really smart, strong, and ready for everything before they can go to space. To make sure astronauts from China are well- prepared for their missions, they go through lots of training. Huang Weifen, who helps design the astronaut program, says there are over 200 different things astronauts have to learn, including science, physical training, and practice missions. 4. E One of the hardest parts of the training for astronauts is the underwater exercises. 5. D Astronauts wear diving suits that weigh more than 100 kilograms and stay underwater for six hours at a time. Moving around in the water with such a heavy suit is really tiring. Huang said that one astronaut, Nie Haisheng, even lost 2 kilograms after one underwater training exercise. A. Being an astronaut is not easy! B. That can make them feel lonely or stressed. C. It􀆳s a day to celebrate the country􀆳s growth in space exploration. D. This helps them get ready for the weightless environment in space. E. Before they can go to space, they train for at least three and a half years. Passage 11 Every culture has its own proverbs(谚语). Proverbs are short sayings about life that are passed on from generation(一代人) to generation. They go back tens, hundreds, even thousands of years and summarize(总结) the practical experience of the people who used them. 1. C The Chinese proverb “One step in the wrong direction can cause a thousand years of regret.” is a good example. Anyone who􀆳s about to make a decision in a rush, without weighing the pros and cons first, is warned of the terrible consequences(后果) of a bad choice. Sometimes proverbs can seem to have different meanings. 2. D Some think that the proverb is a warning for people who keep moving and never settle down. If these people “ gather no moss (苔 藓 )”, then it means they haven􀆳t achieved anything. 3. E If you don􀆳t move and change with the times, you􀆳ll become like an old mossy piece of rock. 4. B Maybe this is because proverbs have traveled and have been translated from one language into another, or maybe it􀆳s because they􀆳re just common sense. An expression similar to “You􀆳ll reap(收获) what you sow(播种).” appears in many languages, and it means that you􀆳ll get what you give. One proverb in Malaysia, where crocodiles (鳄鱼) are common, is “Don􀆳t think there are no crocodiles just because the water is calm.” 5. A All proverbs teach us that although societies are changing and becoming more developed every day, there are some basic facts about life and human nature that􀆳ll never change. A. Whatever advice proverbs give, one thing is true. B. We often find that there are similar proverbs across cultures. C. Because proverbs give proper advice, they help us make decisions. D. The English proverb “A rolling stone gathers no moss.” is one example. E. Others think that the proverb is a warning for people who never do anything. Passage 12 When the weather outdoors gets warmer, flowers appear and birds become active. Spring has sprung(春 天来了)! 1. D You go to bed, and the next morning you awake to a new world—one that is greener and more colorful. The same can be said for expressions that use the word “spring”. Now one of the fastest growing things in nature is the mushroom. One day mushrooms are nowhere to be found. 2. C So, when something happens suddenly and often over a large area, we can say it springs up like mushrooms. 3. B After videos about making mushroom cupcakes became popular online, cupcake stores sprang up like mushrooms all over the town. We use the term “ to spring ” to describe anything that happens without warning. So if someone springs big news on you, the news comes to you from out of the blue. 4. E Let􀆳s say two people, Tara and Sam, own a business called Tara and Sam􀆳s Roof Repair. Then one day, Tara sprang big news on Sam. She was moving to Alaska in a week! She wanted to be out of the business. Sam wasn􀆳t prepared for this. He asked, “A week? How can you spring this news on me? 5. A ” Next time you have news, try not to spring it on someone unless you want them to be shocked. In that case, spring away! A. We􀆳re supposed to be in this together! B. Here􀆳s one way to use this expression. C. The next day there are a whole lot of them! D. Sometimes these changes in nature seem to happen overnight. E. When people break news to you this way, it can leave you speechless(哑口无言).
