However, young people now spend their free time at health clubs, or getting tuina (推拿), or even foot massage to experience traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practices, such as acupuncture (针灸). A survey in 2023 by China Youth Daily showed that 93.3% of 1,000 young people have tried TCM. A TCM doctor named Ma Huifang said that many young people are coming to her for health problems like neck and back pain, and dry eyes, which used to be seniors’ problems. These issues are becoming common in young people because of bad lifestyles and too much stress. When choosing between Western medicine and TCM, young people like TCM better because it works well for their health problems. Some people say TCM is not scientific enough, but Ma thinks TCM is more accurate because it treats people based on their own needs. TCM is becoming a big part of young people’s lives. They are learning TCM skills to help themselves and others. Jin Ying, a 25-year-old student at Minzu University of China, is an enthusiast of TCM. She learned acupuncture and tuina at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. She even helped her roommate with insomnia (失眠) using ear seeds from a therapy called auricular acupoint therapy. Jin also follows the Five Elements theory in her daily life. In winter, she saves energy by not sweating too much. For her, learning TCM is about living a new way of life and understanding Chinese culture. “TCM helps young people learn about our national heritage and see it as a treasure of our culture,” Jin says. 4. How has young people changed their free time activity in the past few years? A. They have stopped going to health clubs. B. They only enjoy western medicine for the treatment. C. They now prefer going to KTV and amusement parks. D. They now spend more time joining healthy activities. 5. Why do young people prefer TCM therapies according to Ma Huifang? A. They are useful for treatments. B. They change their bad lifestyles. C. They deal with too much stress. D. They are cheaper than other methods. 6. What does the underlined word “accurate” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Useful. B. Advanced. C. Personalized. D. Special. 7. Why does the writer mention Jin Ying? A. To show Jin Ying’s skills. B. To prove the acceptance of TCM. C. To praise Jin Ying’s kindness. D. To explain the progress of TCM. D 5. A 6. C 7. 根据第一段的“However, young people now spend their free time at health clubs, or getting tuina (推拿), or even foot massage to experience traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practices, such as acupuncture (针灸). (然而,现在的年轻人把空闲时间花在健身俱乐部,或做按摩,甚至足底按摩,以体验中医(TCM)的疗法,如针灸)”可知,现在年轻人在空闲时间更倾向于参加健康的、养生类的活动。故选D。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“When choosing between Western medicine and TCM, young people like TCM better because it works well for their health problems. (当选择西医和中医时,年轻人更喜欢中医,因为它对他们的健康问题有很好的效果)”可知,年轻人喜欢中医是因为中医的疗效很好。故选A。 根据第二段划线词 accurate 后的句子“because it treats people based on their own needs.(因为它是根据人们自己的需求来治疗的)”可知,TCM疗法是根据病人需求治疗,更具个性化,因此accurate为“个性化的”之意 。 根据第三段第一句话“TCM is becoming a big part of young people’s lives. They are learning TCM skills to help themselves and others. (中医正在成为年轻人生活的重要组成部分)” 可推断,作者写Jin Ying的例子是为了体现中医在年轻人当中的认可度和传播度。故选B。 C How long do donkeys (驴) live? Do they live longer than horses? Donkeys can live for quite a number of years, although there are many things to consider that will enable a donkey to live a long and healthy life. In the wild, donkeys can live into their mid-teens, while domesticated (驯养) donkeys can live a much longer life. It’s generally considered that an aged donkey is one that is over 20 years old, but many donkeys live into their 30s, with some going on into their 40s, or extremely rarely, their fifth decade. This is more the case in donkeys kept as pets rather than as working donkeys. Donkeys tend to live longer than horses live, and this comes down to biological reasons and species differences. As equines (马科动物) age, it becomes more difficult for them to bite their food into pieces and take in the energy they need to maintain a healthy body weight. For horses, this can be a real problem. However, a donkey’s digestive (消化的) system is much more efficient, meaning a donkey only requires 50% — 75% of the food that a horse of a similar size would need. Their ability to get the energy out of their food, will be able to help them survive on a diet that wouldn’t support a horse of the same size and weight. Domestic donkeys first came from the African wild donkeys, who lived in the difficult, dry environment of areas of Northeast Africa. This means they are better suited feeding on bushes (灌木) and are better suited surviving on wild vegetation. That is one of the reasons why domestication has helped both species, and how specific feed, such as short cut, enables both species to get the nutrition they need. At international animal welfare charity, The Donkey Sanctuary, part of their ongoing care as donkeys age is to alter their diet as suitable. The care they get there will hopefully see them living a healthy, happy life. 8. At what age do donkeys start to be considered old? A. 20. B. 30. C. 40. D. 50. 9. What affects how long a domestic donkey lives according to the text? A. Its size. B. Its food choice. C. Which country it comes from. D. Whether it’s a pet or a working animal. 10. Why do donkeys live longer than horses? A. Donkeys like eating short- cut plants. B. Donkeys have better digestive ability. C. Donkeys prefer various kinds of food. D Donkeys have better living conditions. 11. What does the underlined word “alter” in the last paragraph mean? A. Increase. B. Reduce. C. Doubt. D. Change. A 9. D 10. B 11. 根据文章第一段“It’s generally considered that an aged donkey is one that is over 20 years old(人们普遍认为,一头老驴是指20岁以上的驴)”可知,超过20岁的驴就被认为是老龄驴,故选A。 根据文章第一段“It’s generally considered that an aged donkey is one that is over 20 years old, but many donkeys live into their 30s, with some going on into their 40s, or extremely rarely, their fifth decade. This is more the case in donkeys kept as pets rather than as working donkeys.(人们普遍认为,一头老驴是指20岁以上的驴,但许多驴活到了30多岁,有些甚至活到了40多岁,或者极少数活到了50多岁。在作为宠物而不是工作驴饲养的驴中情况更是如此。)”可知,作为宠物饲养的驴比作为工作动物饲养的驴活得更久。故选D。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。。根据文章第二段“However, a donkey’s digestive(消化的) system is much more efficient, meaning a donkey only requires 50%-75% of the food that a horse of a similar size would need. (然而,驴的消化系统要高效得多,这意味着一只驴只需要体型相似的马所需食物的50%-75%。)”可知,驴的消化能力更好,故选B。 【11题详解】 词义猜测题。根据划线词alter前文的内容“That is one of the reasons why domestication has helped both species, and how specific feed, such as short cut, enables both species to get the nutrition they need.(这就是为什么驯化对两个物种都有帮助的原因之一,以及特定的喂养方式,如切短饲料,能让这两个物种都能获得所需的营养。)” D。 D Finding the Real You Psychometric testing — personality testing — has been very popular nowadays as studies show their results to be three times more accurate in predicting your job performance. These tests are now included in almost all graduate recruitment (招聘) and are widely used in the selection of managers. The most popular of these personality tests is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). It is based on the theory that we are born with a tendency to one personality type which stays more or less fixed throughout life. You answer 88 questions and are then given your “type”, such as Outgoing or Quiet, Feeling or Thinking. Critics of personality testing raise doubts about “social engineering”. Psychologist Dr. Colin Gill warns that the “popular” personality traits (特性) have their disadvantages. “People who are extremely open to new experiences can be butterflies, going from one idea to the next without mastering any of them.” However, the psychometric test is here to stay, which may be why a whole sub-industry on cheating personality tests has sprung up. “It’s possible to cheat,” admits Gill, “but having to pretend to be the person you are at work will be tiring and unhappy and probably short-lived.” So can we change our personality? “Your basic personality is fixed by the time you’re 21,” says Gill, “but it can be affected by motivation and intelligence. If you didn’t have the personality type to be a doctor but desperately wanted to be one and were intelligent enough to master the skills, you could still go ahead. But trying to go too much against type for too long requires much energy and is actually to be suffered for long. I think it’s why we’re seeing this trend for downshifting — too many people trying to fit in to a type that they aren’t really suited for.” Our interest in personality now exists in every part of our lives. If you ask an expert for advice on anything, you’ll probably be quizzed about your personality. But if personality tests have any value to us, perhaps it is to free us from the idea that all of us are full of potential, and remind us of what we are. As they say in one test when they ask for your age: pick the one you are, not the one you wish you were. 12. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is based on the belief that ______. A. certain personality traits are common. B. personality is largely decided from birth. C. some personality types are better than others. D. personality traits are various from time to time. 13. According to Dr. Gill, what is the problem with personality tests? A. Employers often find the results unclear. B. They may have a negative effect on takers. C. People can easily lie about their true abilities. D. The results could be opposite to what employers want. 14. In Dr. Gill’s view, how easy is it to change your personality? A. It’s impossible in your childhood. B. It’s easy if you have great motivation. C. It’s difficult before the age of 21. D. It’s unlikely because it requires much energy. 15. What final conclusion does the author reach about the value of personality tests? A They are not really worth doing. B. They may encourage greater realism. C. They are of doubtful value to employers. D. They can strengthen the idea we have of our abilities. B 13. C 14. D 15. 根据第二段“The most popular of these personality tests is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). It is based on the theory that we are born with a tendency to one personality type which stays more or less fixed throughout life. (这些性格测试中最流行的是迈尔斯-布里格斯类型指标(MBTI)。它基于这样一种理论:我们生来就有一种人格类型的倾向,这种倾向在一生中或多或少地保持不变)”可知,迈尔斯-布里格斯类型指标(MBTI)的理论是我们生来就有一种人格类型的倾向,也就是性格很大程度上是由出生决定的。故选B。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“However, the psychometric test is here to stay, which may be why a whole sub-industry on cheating personality tests has sprung up. “It’s possible to cheat,” admits Gill, “but having to pretend to be the person you are at work will be tiring and unhappy and probably short-lived.” (然而,心理测试将继续存在,这可能就是为什么作弊人格测试的整个子行业如雨后春笋般涌现的原因。“作弊是有可能的,”吉尔承认,“但在工作中不得不假装自己是真实的自己,这会让人感到疲惫、不开心,而且很可能活不久。”)”可知,吉尔医生说作弊人格测试的整个子行业如雨后春笋般涌现,可推知性格测试中人们很容易对自己的真实能力撒谎。故选C。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“So can we change our personality? “Your basic personality is fixed by the time you’re 21,” says Gill, “but it can be affected by motivation and intelligence. If you didn’t have the personality type to be a doctor but desperately wanted to be one and were intelligent enough to master the skills, you could still go ahead. But trying to go too much against type for too long requires much energy and is actually to be suffered for long. 根据最后一段“But if personality tests have any value to us, perhaps it is to free us from the idea that all of us are full of potential, and remind us of what we are. As they say in one test when they ask for your age: pick the one you are, not the one you wish you were.(但如果人格测试对我们有任何价值的话,也许就是让我们摆脱“我们都充满潜力”的想法,并提醒我们自己是谁。就像他们在一次测试中问你的年龄时所说的那样:选择你真实的年龄,而不是你希望成为的年龄)”可知人格测试也希望你给出真实的情况,所以是鼓励更大的现实主义,故选B。 第二节:(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Effective studying is vital in college, and many new college students quickly find that their former study habits need major adjustments. B. D. Donkeys have better living conditions. 11. What does the underlined word “alter” in the last paragraph mean? A. Increase. B. Reduce. C. Doubt. D. Change. D Finding the Real You Psychometric testing — personality testing — has been very popular nowadays as studies show their results to be three times more accurate in predicting your job performance. A. They are not really worth doing. B. They may encourage greater realism. C. They are of doubtful value to employers. D. They can strengthen the idea we have of our abilities. 第二节:(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Effective studying is vital in college, and many new college students quickly find that their former study habits need major adjustments.
