We live in a small rented apartment in Park Merced, a large housing development. I would call us lower-middle-class. A lot of nurses, bus drivers, and tradesmen live here, many of them 1st or 2nd generation immigrants (移民). We’re all renters. Renters come and go and tend not to see the buildings they live in as their home. But it can be done. We started with a monthly two-hour social in the building lobby (前厅) on the second Fridays of each month. Some people came, between 15-30 each time. The events lasted two hours, but there wasn’t much to do besides talking, eating snacks and drinking juice. The socials were nice, but most residents gave them a miss. Then one day I was on the nearby campus of San Francisco State University. A young man from a social club for students had a big sign about “Building Community”. I asked him, “How do you do that?” He said they tried to get people to share something about themselves with at least one other person. That made a lot of sense to me. I bought a large world map. At the social, I taped it on the lobby walls with signs that said “Where We’re From. Put a green sticker where you were born and yellow stickers where your grandparents were born.” People put up their stickers and looked where other people came from. We left the map up overnight, and the next day, Saturday, more people played. I planned to leave the map and stickers up for a month or more. They certainly made the lobby more interesting than the housing project look it usually has. I see that there will be challenges, but I also know that a strong community will help us live good lives. I have the time and energy to do this work. 24. What trouble did the author have building a community? A. The community was poor. B. She lacked enough money. C. Renters had no sense of belonging. D. Her neighbors were all immigrants. 25. How did the author find her earlier events? A. Fruitful. B. Ordinary. C. Inspiring. D. Messy. 26. What did the author do in order to change the socials? A. Adopt a sharing game. B. Add foods and drinks. C. Admit experienced locals. D. Ask some students for support. 27. Which of the following best describes the author? A. Responsible and strict. B. Demanding and ambitious. C. Knowledgeable and modest. D. Insightful and determined. C To Karanth, everyone in every part of the world is born with a fundamental connection to nature. Growing up in Karnataka, she began accompanying her father into the wild at just two years old. But in her hometown, kids grew up with a negative perspective on wildlife. Elephants destroyed crops and sometimes people were badly injured or killed. Karanth discovered kids wouldn’t appreciate the fact that it’s the best place to witness extraordinary animals. In 2017, a conversation with her friend Gabby shifted her mindset towards education. Within half a year, Karanth and Gabby had the first version of “Wild Shaale” on their hands. A program designed for students who come into frequent contact with wildlife, Wild Shaale aims to develop a genuine understanding of wildlife and wild spaces and move beyond wildlife tolerance to concepts of conservation and environmental issues. The conservation education program fills a gap in environmental learning. While it is fortunate that a basic environmental education is supported by local government, Karanth believes the challenge lies in the quality of the curriculum and whether it’s delivered effectively and consistently. “You have to visualize what these schools look like. They may not have electricity — forget having computers, internet, iPads, or anything.” Encouraging the students to find commonalities between themselves and the animals is the first step to changing perceptions and hopefully, behaviors. “It comes down to the same things: we need food; we need water; we need space. Then they start to understand why situations of conflict arise,” Karanth says. “But then how do you convince them not to get angry, not to act in a way that leads to harm? That’s something we’re trying to work on. It’s not easy.” 28. What problem might Karanth’s hometown have faced? A. Human-wildlife conflict. B. Loss of wildlife habitats. C. Overpopulation of elephants. D. Disregard for wildlife balance. 29. Why did Karanth launch the program Wild Shaale? A. To help students identify animals. B. To fill a gap in local education. C. To change how students perceive wildlife. D. To publicize wildlife diversity. 30. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A. The support to the plan. B. The barrier to the program. C. The curriculum arrangement. D. The schools’conditions. 31. What is Karanth trying to achieve in the program? A. A shift in humans’ attitudes and behavior. B. A breakthrough in environmental studies. C. Appropriate ways to end local conflicts. D. Approaches to changing animals’ behavior. D There’s so much carbon dioxide (CO2) in the air that just planting trees and protecting forests won’t solve the problem. When plants and trees die, the carbon they’ve stored gets released again. Moreover, the CO2 in the atmosphere is much more dilute than in, for example, waste gas from a power station or a steel plant. Capturing CO2 from the air is the most expensive application of carbon capture. Direct Air Capture (DAC) is one type of technological carbon removal, which obtains CO2 directly from the atmosphere at any location, unlike carbon capture which is generally carried out at the point of emissions. The CO2 can be permanently stored in deep geological formations or used for a variety of applications. Graphyte is a US company working on DAC. The company claims its carbon capture method is cheap, mainly because it lets plants do the work. The company collects unwanted wood products from farmers and furniture companies. It dries this “biomass” completely so that it can’t break down. Graphyte then smashes (打碎) the dried plants into small bricks which it seals in a special wrapper and buries deep underground. Graphyte says its process doesn’t use much energy and can work anywhere. The plant and tree material the process uses would release carbon if it wasn’t treated. And the cost is less than$ 100 to capture a ton of CO2. The company is building a factory, but it’s not running yet. Not everyone is excited about this carbon removal. Some people worry that it will take too long for DAC technology to become powerful enough to make a difference. Others worry that focusing on removing carbon could take attention away from more important climate actions, like switching from fossil fuels to renewable energy. But experts say the decision isn’t to do one or the other. The world needs to end fossil fuel use and pull carbon out of the air. 32. What does the author intend to tell us in the first paragraph? A. Trees can purify the air in the sky. B. Plants release more carbon dioxide. C. Removing carbon from air is challenging. D. CO2 emission reduction is urgently needed. 33. What does the underlined word “dilute” in Paragraph 1 mean? A. Beneficial. B. Thin. C. Harmful. D. Concentrated. 34. What can we know about Graphyte’s DAC project? A. Its cost is relatively low. B. It is in good operation now. C. Its working condition is demanding. D. It turns carbon into building materials. 35. What is the experts’ opinion about DAC technology? A. It will make a difference soon. B. It can replace renewable energy in time. C. It will result in more environmental concerns. D. It can work together with other climate measures. Encouraging kids to make handmade gifts teaches valuable lessons and adds meaning to presents. ___36___ Handmade gifts are thoughtful and show care, making them extra special. It meant moving away from my friends and going to a completely different middle school than the one I thought I’d be going to. In August, my parents and I got to take a tour of the school. That was when we learned that there weren’t any buses that passed our new neighbourhood. It was actually close to the school, so that meant I would be walking to and from school every day. At the time, both of my parents worked five days a week, so they found a babysitter to be there when my two-year-old brother and I got home and watch us until my parents returned home. The school year started, and in early September, we got a massive heatwave. The middle school was an old building and most of it was not air-conditioned. At the end of those days, I was tired and not in any mood to walk an additional twenty minutes in the heat, so I used snack money to call the babysitter. The babysitter, thinking he should not let me suffer in the heat, came to pick me up. I did try to call home two more times over the next two weeks. The second time, I got the sitter again. The third time, Dad answered. He was not happy with me. “It’s not that hot! You shouldn’t call the sitter away from the house. You have to start growing up. Walk home, and we will talk more when you get here.” “Okay,” I told demanding Dad. “I wouldn’t call the sitter or you again to be picked up.” Last Friday, a storm was getting close when school was out. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “How did you get home?” Mom asked, shocked. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 济宁市实验中学2022级高三上学期12月月考 英语试题 2024-12-07 注意事项: 1. What does the woman offer to share with the man? W: Thanks for having me. M: I know you’ve written a book about the universe and dark matter. Could you explain that to our viewers? W: Well, no one really knows what dark matter is. It’s called so because we think it is a type of matter that doesn’t react to light. M: So how do we know it exists? W: It’s just a theory at the moment, but there’s strong evidence for it. M: What’s that? W: In the universe, we can see how planets and stars act and influence each other, but sometimes they don’t react how we believe they should. That means something else is affecting their actions. M: So how much of the universe is dark matter? W: Well, the current popular model suggests the universe is made up of about 5% matter, 26% dark matter, and the rest is what we term dark energy. 18. Stay calm and quiet. 20. What does the speaker remind the listeners to do if their home is flooded? A. Stay with families and wait for help. B. Avoid driving cars through flooded roads. C. Contact the local leaders right away. B 19. A 20. Hello, everyone. Thank you for coming. On behalf of the town office, I’m here to share some tips on what to do if your area is hit by a flood. First, always stay informed. Listen to the news or weather reports to find out if a flood is likely to happen. If there’s a flood warning, take it seriously and follow any instructions given by us local leaders. Next, make sure you have an emergency bag ready. This should include things like water, food, batteries, and medicine. Keep this in a place where you can get it quickly. If your home is flooded and you need to leave, do so immediately. And I’ d like to remind you that you should never drive through flooded roads. Just six inches of water can knock you down, and one foot of water can sweep away a car. If you can’t leave, move to the highest floor and wait for help. Lastly, stay calm and help others if you can. Thank you, and stay safe! A THE TEMPE FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS December 6–8, 2024, Friday–Saturday 10:00 AM–5:30 PM & Sunday 10:00 AM–4:30 PM KIDS BLOCK A hands-on interactive block for young artists and a youth exhibition featuring over 450 student works from around the Valley - on display and for sale. C 25. B 26. A 27. 根据第二段中的“Renters come and go and tend not to see the buildings they live in as their home. (租房者来来去去,往往不会将他们居住的建筑物视为自己的家。)”可知,租客们对居住地没有归属感是作者面对的困难。故选C项。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“The events lasted two hours, but there wasn’t much to do besides talking, eating snacks and drinking juice. The socials were nice, but most residents gave them a miss. (活动持续了两个小时,但除了聊天、吃零食和喝果汁外,没有什么可做的。社交活动很好,但大多数居民都错过了他们。)”可知,前几次把租客组织到一起的努力没有实质性效果,没有吸引广大居民的参加,故选B项。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“He said they tried to get people to share something about themselves with at least one other person. That made a lot of sense to me. (他说,他们试图让人们与至少另一个人分享一些关于他们自己的事情。这对我来说很有意义。)”及第四段“I bought a large world map. 根据第二段中的“Renters come and go and tend not to see the buildings they live in as their home. 【答案】28. A 29. C 30. B 31. A 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了卡兰斯通过建立Wild Shaale项目来改变学生对野生动物的看法。 【28题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段“But in her hometown, kids grew up with a negative perspective on wildlife. Elephants destroyed crops and sometimes people were badly injured or killed. Karanth discovered kids wouldn’t appreciate the fact that it’s the best place to witness extraordinary animals.(但在她的家乡,孩子们从小就对野生动物持消极态度。大象毁坏了庄稼,有时人们严重受伤或死亡。卡兰斯发现,孩子们不会欣赏这样一个事实:这里是观看非凡动物的最佳地点)”可知,卡兰斯的家乡面临问题是人类与野生动物的冲突。故选A。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“A program designed for students who come into frequent contact with wildlife, Wild Shaale aims to develop a genuine understanding of wildlife and wild spaces and move beyond wildlife tolerance to concepts of conservation and environmental issues. The conservation education program fills a gap in environmental learning.(该项目专为经常接触野生动物的学生设计,旨在培养对野生动物和野生空间的真正理解,并超越野生动物的耐受性,了解保护和环境问题的概念。保育教育计划填补了环境学习的空白)”可知,Karanth启动Wild Shaale项目是为了改变学生对野生动物的看法。故选C。 【30题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第三段“While it is fortunate that a basic environmental education is supported by local government, Karanth believes the challenge lies in the quality of the curriculum and whether it’s delivered effectively and consistently. “You have to visualize what these schools look like. They may not have electricity — forget having computers, internet, iPads, or anything.”(虽然幸运的是,基础环境教育得到了当地政府的支持,但Karanth认为,挑战在于课程的质量,以及课程是否有效和持续。“你必须想象这些学校是什么样子。他们可能没有电——更别提有电脑、互联网、ipad或任何东西了。”)”可知,第三段主要讲了项目的障碍。故选B。 【31题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“Encouraging the students to find commonalities between themselves and the animals is the first step to changing perceptions and hopefully, behaviors.(鼓励学生发现自己和动物之间的共同点是改变观念和行为的第一步)”可知,卡兰斯想在这个项目中实现人类态度和行为的转变。故选A。 D There’s so much carbon dioxide (CO2) in the air that just planting trees and protecting forests won’t solve the problem. When plants and trees die, the carbon they’ve stored gets released again. Moreover, the CO2 in the atmosphere is much more dilute than in, for example, waste gas from a power station or a steel plant. Capturing CO2 from the air is the most expensive application of carbon capture. Direct Air Capture (DAC) is one type of technological carbon removal which obtains CO2 directly from the atmosphere at any location, unlike carbon capture which is generally carried out at the point of emissions. A It will make a difference soon. B. It can replace renewable energy in time. C. It will result in more environmental concerns. D. It can work together with other climate measures. 【答案】32. C 33. B 34. A 35. D 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了使用DAC技术捕捉碳的研究、进展及思考。 【32题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段中“Capturing CO2 from the air is the most expensive application of carbon capture. (从空气中捕获二氧化碳是碳捕获最昂贵的应用。)”及后文主要介绍了碳捕捉可知,第一段想要告诉我们从空气中捕捉二氧化碳很有挑战性。故选C项。 【33题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第一段中“Moreover, the CO2 in the atmosphere is much more dilute than in, for example, waste gas from a power station or a steel plant. (此外,大气中的二氧化碳比发电站或钢铁厂的废气中的二氧化碳要稀得多。)”可知,这里是将大气中的二氧化碳和发电厂或钢铁厂废气中的二氧化碳进行对比,发电厂或钢铁厂废气中的二氧化碳浓度高,那么大气中的二氧化碳相对就是稀薄的,所以dilute意思是“稀薄的”,故选B项。 【34题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“The company claims its carbon capture method is cheap, mainly because it lets plants do the work. (该公司声称其碳捕获方法很便宜,主要是因为它让植物完成这项工作。)”及第四段中的“And the cost is less than$ 100 to capture a ton of CO2. (捕获一吨二氧化碳的成本不到100美元。)”可知,Graphyte的DAC项目其成本相对较低,故选A项。 【35题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“But experts say the decision isn’t to do one or the other. The world needs to end fossil fuel use and pull carbon out of the air. (但专家表示,这个决定不是做一个或那个。世界需要结束化石燃料的使用并从空气中去除碳。)”可知,专家们普遍认为DAC技术可以与其他环保举措并行不悖。故选D项。 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Encouraging kids to make handmade gifts teaches valuable lessons and adds meaning to presents. ___36___ Handmade gifts are thoughtful and show care, making them extra special. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是说明文。文章讨论了鼓励孩子制作手工礼物的益处,包括表达爱意、节约成本、环保、学习生活技能,以及促进家庭成员之间的优质互动。 【36题详解】 根据前文“Encouraging kids to make handmade gifts teaches valuable lessons and adds meaning to presents.(鼓励孩子们手工制作礼物可以教会他们宝贵的经验,并为礼物增添意义)”以及后文“Handmade gifts are thoughtful and show care, making them extra special.(手工制作的礼物既体贴又有爱心,让它们显得格外特别)”可知,此处讲述手工制作礼物的好处,所以C项“While it requires planning, the effort is worth it.(虽然这需要计划,但努力是值得的)”符合文意,讲述因为有好处,所以努力是值得的,承接上文,并引出下文内容。故选C项。 【37题详解】 设空位于段尾,是对前文的总结,根据前文“Handmade gifts are a perfect way to show you care without spending much. They reflect your creativity and can be tailored to the receiver’s preferences. Even simple DIY projects with home supplies are often more meaningful than store-bought items. If time is tight. consider unique handmade goods from online stores.(手工制作的礼物是一个完美的方式来表达你的关心,而不用花太多钱。 【38题详解】 根据前文“Handmade gifts are cost-effective and eco-friendly, often made with materials you already have at home. This approach saves money and reduces environmental impact by using fewer resources.(手工制作的礼物既省钱又环保,通常是用你家里已有的材料制作的。这种方法通过使用更少的资源来节省资金和减少对环境的影响)”可知G项“However, creating gifts on a budget doesn’t mean lowering the quality.(然而,省钱制作礼物并不意味着降低质量)”都提到了节省资金,且和前文构成转折关系,符合文意。故选G项。 【39题详解】 根据前文“Giving handmade gifts teaches children valuable life skills like budgeting, problem-solving, organization, and planning. By planning and creating a gift. they practice these skills in a hands-on way.(赠送手工礼物能教会孩子们宝贵的生活技能,如预算管理、解决问题、组织能力和计划能力。通过规划和制作礼物,他们能以实践的方式锻炼这些技能)”可知,本段主要讲述了手工制作能教会孩子们宝贵的生活技能,所以D项“They will also learn to think outside the box in gift-giving.(他们还将学会在送礼物时跳出框框思考问题)”也是在讲述学会生活技能,其中also衔接上文,符合文意。故选D项。 【40题详解】 设空为本段小标题,根据后文“Giving handmade gifts is also a wonderful way for you and your children to spend meaningful time together doing something productive and enjoyable. Taking time out of busy schedules can often be difficult, but creating thoughtful gifts together is not only fun but also teaches important values like working hard on tasks until completion, which builds determination as well as patience.(赠送手工制作的礼物也是你和你的孩子一起度过有意义的时光,做一些有成效和愉快的事情的好方法。 You can imagine how novel we found it when my school began offering cooking as part of the curriculum (课程). “I wouldn’t call the sitter or you again to be picked up.” 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Last Friday, a storm was getting close when school was out. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “How did you get home?” Mom asked, shocked. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Last Friday, a storm was getting close when school was out. Of course I was scared, yet I had this strong sense of “I have to walk home”. So I made a dash for my house. However, fate seemed determined to test my resolve. The rain was absolutely pouring down. What should have been a twelve-minute walk took about thirty, each minute marked by the rhythmic drumming of raindrops against my body with the occasional rumble of thunder in the distance. Finally, I burst through the front door with pride. I called out breathlessly, “Hi, Mom! Hi, Dad! I’m home!” “How did you get home?” Mom asked, shocked. “I walked,” I replied proudly. “Why not call home for emergencies?” Her voice was filled with worry. She was drying me off when Dad approached. “Well done, that’s my boy!” he patted me kindly, adding “Storms make trees take deeper roots.” I gave a nod and said, “I see.” On Saturday he took me out, treating me to a special day. We watched two movies together. That noon, he also surprised me with a large pepperoni pizza, my favourite. It was the most delicious food that I had ever had. 词汇激活: 行为类: ① 接近:get close→approach, draw near ② 猛冲:make a dash→rush, sprint ③ 下定决心:be determined to→resolve to, be resolved to ④ 轻拍:pat→caress, stroke 情绪类: ① 坚决:resolve→determination, resolve ② 骄傲:proudly→arrogantly, boastfully ③ 害怕:scared→fearful, terrified ④ 惊讶:surprised→astounded, astonished 【点睛】【高级句型1】What should have been a twelve-minute walk took about thirty, each minute marked by the rhythmic drumming of raindrops against my body with the occasional rumble of thunder in the distance.(what引导的主语从句,过去分词作后置定语,with的介词短语作状语) 【高级句型2】On Saturday he took me out, treating me to a special day.(现在分词作伴随状语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null
