I took it as an elective (选修的) course because learning French or Spanish seemed too difficult, After some time, I wished I hadn’t picked it, I had thought we would just be learning to touch type (自打), but not be tested on speed and accuracy (准确率), In addition to this, l was the only freshman in the class, Most of the other students were juniors or seniors. “Hands on home keys. Eyes on the book, Ready? Type,” said the teacher, Suddenly the room was alive with 30 electric typewriters’ keys being pounded (猛击) on, I tried my best to keep up, but it was clear being a clerk wasn’t in my future. Though I didn’t make many errors, my typing speed was very slow and I knew I wasn’t going to get a good grade on this test. I really regretted taking this class and wished I could be learning phrases in French instead. Now 43 years later I am so happy that I took that class and learned how to type. It has helped me write countless stories with inspiration (灵感) flowing through my heart and mind and into the keys on my computer keyboard. It has helped me to write letters and e-mails full of kindness to share with friends and family. It has helped me to do what I was meant to do and share what I was meant to share in this life. I am thankful to take that class. We may meet difficulties in life. There are people we need to meet, skills we need to learn, talents we need to have and love we need to share. We’d better accept them all with a grateful heart, even when we don’t know why sometimes 4. Why did the author choose the typing class? A. She could type quickly and accurately. B. Life is difficult sometimes. B. We should master some skills. C. Learn to accept everything in life. D. Wait and see the results of our efforts. D 5. A 6. A 7. 根据文中第一段“I took it as an elective (选修的) course because learning French or Spanish seemed too difficult(我把它作为一门选修课,因为学习法语或西班牙语似乎太难了)”可知,作者认为打字课程比其他选修课简单,因此选择了它。 根据文中第二段“Though I didn’t make many errors, my typing speed was very slow and I knew I wasn’t going to get a good grade on this test.(尽管我没有犯很多错误,我的打字速度却很慢,我知道这次考试我拿不到好成绩)”可知,尽管她学会了打字,但测试结果显示她的打字速度很慢,因此她并不适合这一课程。故选A。 根据文中第三段内容“It has helped me write countless stories with inspiration (灵感) flowing through my heart and mind and into the keys on my computer keyboard. It has helped me to write letters and e-mails full of kindness to share with friends and family. It has helped me to do what I was meant to do and share what I was meant to share in this life. I am thankful to take that class.(它帮助我写下了无数的故事,灵感流淌于我的心田和脑海,再通过指尖输入到电脑键盘上。它帮助我写下满载善意的信件和电子邮件,与朋友和家人分享。它帮助我完成了我该做的事情,并分享了我此生该分享的东西。我很感谢我当时选了那门课)”可知,作者年长后回忆起过去学打字的经历,意识到它帮助她在写作、通讯等方面受益匪浅,由此可推知,学习打字对她产生了积极影响。故选A。 根据文中的最后一段“We may meet difficulties in life. There are people we need to meet, skills we need to learn, talents we need to have and love we need to share. We’d better accept them all with a grateful heart, even when we don’t know why sometimes(我们在生活中可能会遇到困难。有我们必须遇见的人,必须学习的技能,必须拥有的才能,以及必须分享的爱。我们最好怀着一颗感恩的心去接受这一切,即使有时我们不知道为什么)”可知,作者想传达的观点,即生活中的挑战和学习都是有意义的,应以感激之心接受。故选C。 C Your chair is your enemy. It doesn’t matter if you go running every morning, or you’re a regular at the gym. If you spend most of the rest of the day sitting, you are putting yourself at increased chance of heart disease, cancers and an early death. In other words, even if you exercise energetically, sitting for long periods is bad for you. So what’s wrong with sitting? One is that sitting is one of the most passive things you can do. You burn more energy by chewing gum than you do sitting still in a chair. Compared to sitting, standing in one place is hard work. To stand, you have to tense your leg muscles, and the muscles of your back and shoulders. While standing, you often change from leg to leg. All of this burns energy. For many people, weight gain is a matter of slow increase. Thus, a little more time on your feet today and tomorrow can easily make the difference between remaining thin and getting fat. So part of the problem with sitting a lot is that you don’t use as much energy as those who spend more time on their feet. This makes it easier to gain weight, and makes you more likely to suffer from the health problems that fatness often brings. Some people have advanced solutions:replace your sit-down desk with a stand-up desk. Make sure that your television can only operate if you are practising on an exercise bike. Replace your office chair with a therapy (治疗) ball: this too uses more muscles, and more energy, than a normal chair, because you have to support your back and work to keep balanced. But whatever you choose, know this. It is clear: be careful of your chair. 8. The main purpose of writing this passage is to ________. A. suggest sitting less B. advise exercising often C. avoid gaining weight D. escape standing more 9. From this passage, we know that ________. A. standing burns nearly as much energy as sitting still does B. taking exercise regularly but sitting more will do good C. less exercise will reduce the chance of having disease D. energy-burning activities will help you enjoy good health 10. The underlined word “This” in paragraph 4 refers to “ ________”. A. Gaining weight B. Burning energy C. Sitting too much D. Standing more 11. A therapy ball is mentioned in the last paragraph to ________. A. tell us to walk while working in the office B. suggest a way to settle the sitting problem C. support our back and keep us balanced D. provide a better cure for our backache 【答案】8. A 9. D 10. C 11. 根据首段“Your chair is your enemy. (椅子是你的敌人。)”以及第二段末句“In other words, even if you exercise energetically, sitting for long periods is bad for you. (换句话说,即使你锻炼得很积极,久坐也对你有害。)”可知,长时间久坐对健康有害,建议少坐点。故选A。 根据第四段第三句“So part of the problem with sitting a lot is that you don’t use as much energy as those who spend more time on their feet. (所以长时间坐着的部分问题是,你消耗的能量没有那些花更多时间站着的人多。)”可知,久坐消耗的能量少,危害健康。反之,燃烧能量的活动有助于你保持健康。故选D。 【10题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段最后两句“So part of the problem with sitting a lot is that you don’t use as much energy as those who spend more time on their feet. This makes it easier to gain weight, and makes you more likely to suffer from the health problems that fatness often brings. (所以长时间坐着的部分问题是,你消耗的能量没有那些花更多时间站着的人多。 会让你更容易增重,也更容易遭受肥胖带来的健康问题。)”可知,两句话都是在介绍久坐的危害,所以“This”指代前文提及的“sitting a lot”,即“Sitting too much”。 根据末段第三句“Replace your office chair with a therapy (治疗) ball: this too uses more muscles, and more energy, than a normal chair, because you have to support your back and work to keep balanced. (用治疗球代替你的办公椅:这也比普通的椅子消耗更多的肌肉和能量,因为你必须支撑你的背部,并工作以保持平衡。)”可知,治疗球被提及是提供一种解决坐着问题的方法。故选B。 D Olympic athletes pour everything into training for the Games, usually pushing their physical and mental bounds to the limit — and beyond — for a shot at a gold medal. Yet they are often accompanied by an emotional breakdown. Emotions (feelings) are heightened by the nature of the event itself. The Olympics is a massive cultural event — a combination of global public attention, financial investment and media coverage. New international celebrities(famous men) are created, and some competitors’ fame is ruined during various accusations. Athletes are under the pressure of representing their country and winning medals in front of worldwide audience. “But then all of that publicity and intensity around being an Olympian falls off very quickly,” says Cogan, a lead sport psychologist. It’s more about making a map of how to get to a destination. Once you get there, it’s like, “Now what?” A 2023 paper explained the identity crises (身份危机) athletes face as a result of overfocus on performance, leaving their non-sporting personalities underdeveloped. In a 2018 paper, Howells wrote that athletes with a greater “myopic” focus are more in danger of the “blues”. “It is common for top competitors to have this very high athletic identity,” says Howells. “They’ve sacrificed (牺牲) every other aspect of their identity for the purpose of being an Olympian. They seem unable to realize that their actions might have negative results in the future.” Efforts to minimize this mindset have helped some athletes to open up more about their mental health. Experts advise Olympians to start conversations about mental health support well before the Games begin. Olympians should also discuss mental health monitoring strategies before, during and after the Games. Athletes and experts say the sporting industry has, in the last ten years, been promoting better work-life balance outside of the game. Briana, a soccer goalkeeper, says that her team and coaches actively encourage spending quality time with families and friends, as well as finding hobbies that feel joyful and rewarding. 12. What is the main cause for Olympic athletes’ mental breakdown? A. A sense of loss. B. The pressure of competition. C. The media coverage. D. The audience’s attention. 13. What does the underlined word “myopic” in Paragraph 3 mean? A. Unbelievable. B. All-around. C. Short-sighted. D. Unexpected. 14. What might be a good solution to the athletes’ identity crisis? A. Having higher athletic identity. B. Developing a sense of identity outside the sport. C. Discussing their problems publicly. D. Making greater achievements in sporting industry. 15. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. From Bad to Worse: Athletes’ Well-being B. From Hero to Zero: the Post-Olympic Blues C. Olympic Athletes Challenging Gold Medals D. Olympic Athletes Suffering from Stress 【答案】12. A 13. C 14. B 15. 根据第二段“‘But then all of that publicity and intensity around being an Olympian falls off very quickly,’ says Cogan, a lead sport psychologist. It’s more about making a map of how to get to a destination. Once you get there, it’s like, ‘Now what?’(‘但是,作为一名奥运选手所受到的关注和压力很快就会消失,’首席运动心理学家Cogan说。这更像是绘制一张如何到达目的地的地图。一旦你到达那里,就会想,‘接下来呢?’)”可知,奥运会运动员精神崩溃的主要原因是失落感。故选A。 根据第三段“A 2023 paper explained the identity crises (身份危机) athletes face as a result of overfocus on performance, leaving their non-sporting personalities underdeveloped. In a 2018 paper, Howells wrote that athletes with a greater ‘myopic’ focus are more in danger of the ‘blues’.(2023年的一篇论文解释了运动员面临的身份危机,这是由于过度关注表现,导致他们的非体育个性不发达。Howells在2018年的一篇论文中写道,“myopic”程度更高的运动员患‘忧郁’的风险更大。)”以及划线词后“They’ve sacrificed (牺牲) every other aspect of their identity for the purpose of being an Olympian. They seem unable to realize that their actions might have negative results in the future.(为了成为一名奥运选手,他们牺牲了自己身份的所有其他方面。他们似乎没有意识到他们的行为可能会在未来产生负面影响。)”可知,此处指过度关注眼前的表现,而忽视自己身份的所有其他方面的奥运会运动员,更容易忧郁。myopic意为“目光短浅的”。故选C。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Athletes and experts say the sporting industry has, in the last ten years, been promoting better work-life balance outside of the game. Briana, a soccer goalkeeper, says that her team and coaches actively encourage spending quality time with families and friends, as well as finding hobbies that feel joyful and rewarding.(运动员和专家表示,在过去的十年里,体育产业一直在促进运动之外更好的工作与生活平衡。Briana是一名足球守门员,她说她的团队和教练积极鼓励与家人和朋友共度美好时光,并找到让人快乐和有回报的爱好)”可知,解决运动员身份危机的根本办法是在运动之外培养一种认同感。故选B。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。根据全文内容,结合第一段“Olympic athletes pour everything into training for the Games, usually pushing their physical and mental bounds to the limit — and beyond — for a shot at a gold medal. Yet they are often accompanied by an emotional breakdown.(奥运会运动员为了奥运会倾尽全力进行训练,通常会把自己的身体和精神极限推向极限,甚至超越极限,只为争夺金牌。然而,它们往往伴随着情绪崩溃)”和第二段中“‘But then all of that publicity and intensity around being an Olympian falls off very quickly,’ says Cogan, a lead sport psychologist. It’s more about making a map of how to get to a destination. Once you get there, it’s like, ‘Now what?’(‘但是,作为一名奥运选手所受到的关注和压力很快就会消失,”首席运动心理学家Cogan说。 If you stayed up or had a bad night of sleep last night, you know it’s difficult to stay awake in class today. Your teacher’s voice might begin to sound like a lullaby (摇篮曲). ___16___ To keep yourself awake, some tips are worth trying in class. Sit in the front of the room. Why? ___17___ Besides, you’ll be more motivated to stay awake if you know that the teacher can see you easily. You’ll also be near the people who are more likely to participate, and the sound of their voices might keep you awake. ___18___ Ask and answer questions and pay attention to the lecture. This will help if you’re tired or discouraged by the content of the lecture, because you can ask your teacher questions to get to the bottom of the problems. Talking will also keep you engaged and alert. It might be helpful to make a goal for yourself to answer or ask at least 3 questions per class. ___19___ For example, you might say “I didn’t understand the last part of the proof. Could you explain it again in more detail?” Listen actively to the lesson. Active listening is a great way to force yourself to stay awake because it requires engagement of your mind as well as your body. ___20___ To effectively listen to your teacher, you should try to maintain eye contact, face the speaker, pay close attention to what the speaker is saying and ask questions during a pause in the lecture. A. Develop interest in the subject. B. Get involved in class activities. C. If so, classes can be boring because you’re tired, D. Take notes and try to catch as much information as possible. E. It’ll be easier to pay attention and participate when you’re in the front. F. To avoid annoying your teacher you should try to keep your questions specific. G. Practicing active listening can help you keep your eyes open for the length of the lesson. C 17. E 18. B 19. F 20. 【16题详解】 根据上文“If you stayed up or had a bad night of sleep last night, you know it’s difficult to stay awake in class today. Your teacher’s voice might begin to sound like a lullaby If so, classes can be boring because you’re tired.(如果是这样,上课可能会很无聊,因为你太累了)和上文紧密连接,为上文内容的语意递进,上下文语意连贯。故选C项。 【17题详解】 上文“Sit in the front of the room. 根据下文“Besides, you’ll be more motivated to stay awake if you know that the teacher can see you easily.(此外,如果你知道老师很容易看到你,你会更有动力保持清醒)”可知,此处说明坐在前面的另一个原因。 It’ll be easier to pay attention and participate when you’re in the front.(当你站在前面时,你会更容易集中注意力并参与其中)符合此推断,为解释坐在前面的原因,起到上下文的承上启下作用,上下文语意连贯。 根据下文“Ask and answer questions and pay attention to the lecture. This will help if you’re tired or discouraged by the content of the lecture, because you can ask your teacher questions to get to the bottom of the problems. Talking will also keep you engaged and alert.(提问和回答问题,注意听讲。 【19题详解】 上文“It might be helpful to make a goal for yourself to answer or ask at least 3 questions per class.(为自己设定一个目标,每节课至少回答或问3个问题,这可能会有所帮助)”提到向老师问问题。根据下文“For example, you might say “I didn’t understand the last part of the proof. Could you explain it again in more detail?”(例如,你可能会说“我不明白证明的最后一部分。你能再详细解释一遍吗?”)”可知,此处为具体说明问问题的方式。由此可知,F项To avoid annoying your teacher you should try to keep your questions specific.(为了避免造成老师的麻烦,你应该尽量提出具体的问题)”和上下文内容一致,起到上下文的承上启下作用,符合语境。故选F项。 【20题详解】 根据该段标题“Listen actively to the lesson.(积极听讲)”以及上文“Active listening is a great way to force yourself to stay awake because it requires engagement of your mind as well as your body.(积极倾听是强迫自己保持清醒的好方法,因为它需要你的思想和身体的参与)”可知,该段讲的是积极倾听的内容。 Practicing active listening can help you keep your eyes open for the length of the lesson.(练习积极倾听可以帮助你在课堂上保持睁大眼睛)”和该段内容意思一致,都是讲的关于积极倾听的内容。 When your dream is to become a footballer, nothing should get in your way—even if you have no feet. Besides此外;B. However然而;C. Therefore因此。 A. imagines想象;B. means意思是,意味着;C. stresses强调;D. hopes希望。 A. pretending假装;B. hoping希望;C. believing相信;D. debating辩论。前面说“He knows that his disability (残疾) means he´ll never be able to play for a professional (专业的) football team.(他知道他的残疾意味着他将永远不能为一个职业足球队踢球。)” 根据后文的“He’s fast and he’s very skilled.(他速度快,技术也很好。)” A. everything一切;B. nothing没有什么;C. anything任何东西;D. something某事;根据“copy his hero, Messi ”可知,此处需填入everything来构成固定结构“do everything one can to do sth.(竭尽全力做某事)”,故选A项。 A. affect影响;B. quit放弃;C. cheat欺骗;D. meet遇见,见到。根据“show his ability in the Barcelona Football Club.” A. respecting尊敬;B. obeying遵守;C. challenging挑战;D. designing设计。根据前文“the disability is only inside our heads(残疾只是在我们的头脑中)”可知,人们对于残疾是有偏见的,而根据前文“Watching him play is unbelievable.(看他比赛真是难以置信。)” Nonuser Yassin is a Harvard graduate ____36____ was once an IT expert in Venmo, earning thousands of dollars a year. It doesn’t matter if you go running every morning or you’re a regular at the gym. A. tell us to walk while working in the office B. suggest a way to settle the sitting problem C support our back and keep us balanced D. provide a better cure for our backache D Olympic athletes pour everything into training for the Games, usually pushing their physical and mental bounds to the limit — and beyond — for a shot at a gold medal. 15.
