In her tiny Athens apartment, 93-year-old Ioanna Matsouka has knitted thousands of brightly colored scarves for children in need from Greece to Ukraine, and she has no plans to quit just yet. “Until I die, I will be knitting,” Matsouka says. Since she took up knitting in the 1990s, Matsouka has easily made over 3,000 scarves, her daughter estimates.
In the hallway by the door, shopping bags filled with her latest creations await their new home. A knitted blanket is thrown over the sofa where she spends her days.
Initially distributed to friends, the scarves were later contributed to children’s shelters across Greece as the stock expanded. Then, through acquaintances, they reached children in Bosnia and Ukraine. The latest batch of 70 went to a refugee camp near Athens this winter via the UN refugee agency.
Her daughter, Angeliki, narrates drawings and mails her mother has received over the years: “Thank you, be well, keep going. You gave joy to children, you gave joy to people.” That’s her only reward: a letter, a few words. Matsouka knits one scarf a day, now with small imperfections. Her vision is impaired and she suffers from severe facial pain, a condition known as trigeminal neuralgia Angeliki says her mother is an example of resilience and optimism. Matsouka wakes up every morning, drinks a glass of milk, puts on her pearl earrings and gets to work. She takes a break for lunch and a nap, and then painstakingly knits into the night.
She may have even found the secret to a long life in it, she says. “It’s the happiness I get from giving,” she says, sitting beside a big blue bag brimming with yarn (纱线). “Until I die, I will be knitting,” Matsouka says. Her knitting needles click through her expert fingers, her nails painted red. “It brings me joy to share them.”
24.What did the scarves begin as?
A.Presents to acquaintances. B.Initiatives for fundraising.
C.Donation to a refugee camp. D.Stock for children’s shelters.
25.What can be inferred about Matsouka from paragraph 4?
A.She yields to her severely impaired vision.
B.She wakes up every morning due to facial pain.
C.She continues knitting despite her health challenges.
D.She is only rewarded with drawings from her daughter.
26.Which of the following words fail to describe Matsouka?
A.Resilient and reserved. B.Optimistic and generous.
C.Persevering and passionate. D.Responsible and sympathetic.
27.What message does the article mainly convey?
A.The eye is bigger than the belly. B.Giving is better than accepting.
C.An early bird catches the worm. D.A rolling stone gathers no moss.
【答案】24.A 25.C 26.A 27.B

根据第四段中的“Her vision is impaired and she suffers from severe facial pain, a condition known as trigeminal neuralgia (三叉神经痛).(她的视力受损,并且患有严重的面部疼痛,这种情况被称为三叉神经痛。)”可知,Matsouka的身体出现了状况,结合下文的“Matsouka wakes up every morning, drinks a glass of milk, puts on her pearl earrings and gets to work. She takes a break for lunch and a nap, and then painstakingly knits into the night.(Matsouka每天早上醒来,喝一杯牛奶,戴上珍珠耳环,然后去工作。她休息了一下,吃了午饭,打了个盹,然后辛辛苦苦地编织到深夜。)”可知,在Matsouka身体状况的情况下,她仍每天坚持编织到深夜,由此可知,她不顾健康问题继续编织。故选C项。
26.推理判断题。根据第四段中的“Her vision is impaired and she suffers from severe facial pain, a condition known as trigeminal neuralgia (三叉神经痛).(她的视力受损,并且患有严重的面部疼痛,这种情况被称为三叉神经痛。)”可知,Matsouka的身体出现了状况,结合下文的“Matsouka wakes up every morning, drinks a glass of milk, puts on her pearl earrings and gets to work. She takes a break for lunch and a nap, and then painstakingly knits into the night.(Matsouka每天早上醒来,喝一杯牛奶,戴上珍珠耳环,然后去工作。她休息了一下,吃了午饭,打了个盹,然后辛辛苦苦地编织到深夜。)”可知,在Matsouka身体状况的情况下,她仍每天坚持编织到深夜,由此可知,她不顾病痛坚持编织送人,说明她很慷慨乐观;根据首段中的“Since she took up knitting in the 1990s, Matsouka has easily made over 3,000 scarves, her daughter estimates.(Matsouka的女儿估计,自上世纪90年代开始编织以来,她已经轻松制作了3000多条围巾。)”可知,她从上个世纪以来就开始编制,到现在还在坚持,由此可知,她是坚持不懈充满热情;结合第一段中的“In her tiny Athens apartment, 93-year-old Ioanna Matsouka has knitted thousands of brightly colored scarves for children in need from Greece to Ukraine, and she has no plans to quit just yet. 故选A项。
根据尾段中的“She may have even found the secret to a long life in it, she says. “It’s the happiness I get from giving,” she says, sitting beside a big blue bag brimming with yarn (纱线).(她说,她甚至可能在里面找到了长寿的秘诀。“这是我从给予中得到的快乐,”她坐在一个装满纱线的蓝色大袋子旁边说。)”可知,Ioanna Matsouka认为,给予给她带来了快乐,结合下文的“It brings me joy to share them.(分享它们给我带来了快乐。)”

For many, travel isn’t just about the destination — it’s about making the most of the journey. However, for a lot of people, the journey is often ruined by an uncomfortable experience often accompanied by vomiting, known as motion sickness. If you’ve ever felt the unwelcome urge to vomit while reading or using your device in a moving vehicle, you’re not alone. Recognizing this common issue, Apple has stepped up to offer a revolutionary solution; the Vehicle Motion Cues feature for iPhones and iPads.
Motion sickness occurs when there is a disconnect between what your eyes see and what your body feels. When you’re in a moving vehicle, your body senses motion through its vestibular system (the inner ear), but if your eyes are focused on a still screen that doesn’t reflect this movement, the brain receives mixed signals. This sensory conflict can lead to dizziness, nausea, and overall discomfort - symptoms all too familiar to motion sickness sufferers.
Apple’s new Vehicle Motion Cues feature is designed to bridge this gap and bring relief to those likely to experience motion sickness. This revolutionary feature works by displaying animated dots, around the edges of your screen, which move at the same time and speed as the motion of your vehicle. These moving cues help keep the motion your body feels in line with what your eyes see, effectively reducing the sensory mismatch that causes motion sickness.
The magic lies in the simplicity and effectiveness. The animated dots move in consistency with the vehicle’s motion, providing a visual representation of the movement your body is experiencing. By matching the visual input with the physical sensations of motion, your brain is less likely to experience the confusion that leads to sickness.
Early reports and user feedback indicate that Vehicle Motion Cues is receiving high praise for its effectiveness. So next time you embark on a journey, whether short or long, remember that Apple’s got your back — or rather, your brain - helping you make the most of every mile with ease and comfort.
28.Which type of people can be interested in Vehicle Motion Cues?
A.Frequent travelers. B.Book lovers.
C.Vehicle operators. D.Sport scientists.
29.What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.The principle of Apple’s new design.
B.The cause of motion sickness.
C.The functions of Apples new design.
D.The symptoms of motion sickness.
30.By displaying animated dots around the screen, Applet Vehicle Motion Cues is able to_____.
A.ease sensory conflicts in the brain
B.tell the mismatched physical sensations
C.balance the movement of our eyes and body
D.increase the effectiveness of vehicle motion
31.Which can be the best title of the passage?

Aging is an unstoppable aspect of life. However, according to a study, maintaining a positive attitude towards aging can significantly impact the cognitive (认知的) function of older individuals with mild cognitive impairment (障碍) (MCI). The study revealed that individuals who have an optimistic view of aging and who recover from MCI have a two-year advantage in transitioning back to normal cognition. On the other hand, people who hold negative views about aging have a greater probability of developing MCI.
The study involved a sample of 1,716 participants with an average age of 77.8 years old. The researchers measured the participants’ attitudes towards aging through an age-belief questionnaire (问卷), which divided them into groups with either a positive or negative outlook towards aging. The researchers administered MCI exams seven times over 12 years of follow-up, and the data showed that those with positive aging beliefs had a 30.2% greater likelihood of recovering cognition than the negative age-belief group. Furthermore, individuals with a positive attitude towards aging recovered from MCI an average of two years faster than those with negative aging beliefs.
Dr. Andrew E. Budson, MD, chief of Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology at the Boston Healthcare System, notes that people with a positive attitude towards aging are more likely to engage in social activities, exercise regularly, and have a healthy diet, which can protect against cognitive decline.
However, it is worth noting that the study has some limitations. One limitation is that the negative aging-belief group included more people with depression than the group with a positive outlook towards aging. Depression is related to inflammation (炎症) throughout the body, which can drive cognitive decline. It is also possible that individuals with a negative attitude towards aging had Alzheimer’ s disease and were facing more difficulties in their daily lives, which may have influenced their outlook. Thus, having more people with depression and Alzheimer’ s. disease in the negative aging-belief group could have pushed the results away from the truth, making it appear that a positive outlook on aging has a greater effect than it actually does.

Whether you like it or not, fall is here. Soon the weather will get colder. The leaves will die and the nights will stretch longer than the days. Another year is dying; that’s just how it goes.
Studies suggest that if you are deeply preoccupied with your thoughts, in the autumn, you may be at more risk for depression in the winter. Changing the clocks in the fall is associated with depressive episodes (changing them back in spring is not). 36
Psychologists say that the feelings that often crop up in autumn come from our discomfort with change, and an anxiety and uncertainty about what that change will bring.
37 And of these things the anxiety, the promise and even the careful thoughts — make it the ideal season to build resilience and practice mindfulness. Psychologists have also found that the thought of change, the ending of one thing, the beginning of another, and perhaps our own mortality, underlies a great deal of anxiety. Some of us struggle with “intolerance of uncertainty,” more than others.
But intolerance of uncertainty is a part of being human; everyone has it on some level. 38 One way to build tolerance is to lean into it — to cultivate uncertainty rather than running away from it.
39 Quietly sit on a park bench and watch a tree drop its leaves, for instance, examine the roses in the garden that need pruning ... in such moments, it’s important to stop thinking, analyzing, or having internal conversations about work or troubles or even whatever you are witnessing.
Autumn will probably hold some whisper of decay and mortality. 40 If you are always trying to avoid difficult feelings, you might end up also cutting yourself off from love, richness and sweetness. Dr. Wilson said, “this is how life is: sweet and sad, poured from the same vessel in equal measure.”
A.And it is changeable.
B.But it is not that bad.
C.But embracing that sadness is important.
D.More recently, it’s become a time to appreciate our surroundings.
E.Fall also brings with it bright, briskdays, pumpkin patches and cozy sweaters.
F.It is no wonder that the season has so many celebrations to attempt to keep our spirits up.
G.Another strategy experts suggest for soothing anxiety is to step back and simply observe the world around you.
【答案】36.F 37.B 38.A 39.G 40.C

39.根据下文“Quietly sit on a park bench and watch a tree drop its leaves, for instance, examine the roses in the garden that need pruning ... in such moments, it’s important to stop thinking, analyzing, or having internal conversations about work or troubles or even whatever you are witnessing.(比如,静静地坐在公园的长椅上,看着一棵树落叶,审视花园里需要修剪的玫瑰……在这样的时刻,重要的是停止思考,分析,或对工作或麻烦甚至你所目睹的任何事情进行内心对话。)”可知,本段主要在说缓解焦虑的策略是退后一步,简单地观察你周围的世界。故G选项“专家建议的另一个缓解焦虑的策略是退后一步,简单地观察你周围的世界。”切题。故选G项。
40.根据下文“If you are always trying to avoid difficult feelings, you might end up also cutting yourself off from love, richness and sweetness.(如果你总是试图避免困难的感觉,你可能最终也切断了自己与爱,丰富和甜蜜的联系。)”

The amazing progress in 61 (smooth) selecting the site for the Chinese Culture Center and putting it into 62 (operate) in downtown Paris in such a short period was due to high priority of the Chinese government and constructive cooperation of the French party. Wu Jianmin, Chinese ambassador to France, said 63 excitement, “We have our own cultural center in Paris at last, 64 we have eventually realized the long cherished wish of my predecessor(前任) in the Chinese embassy.” Hou Xianghua, the first director of the Chinese Cultural Center in Paris, said the center will stick to its “non-governmental” nature and greet people from all 65 (walk) of life, in addition to serving the mainstream society.
56.located 57.sits 58.various 59.a 60.to set 61.smoothly 62.operation 63.in/with 64.and 65.walks
分析句子可知,it在句中做形式主语,真正的主语是 (set) the Chinese Cultural Center in this exact place这一部分,所以这里用不定式做主语,故填to set。
in excitement 和with excitement 都可以表达“激动地,兴奋地”的意思,故填in/with。
We have our own cultural center in Paris at last,可知最终我们在巴黎有了自己的文化中心,根据后文we have eventually realized the long cherished wish of my predecessor(前任) in the Chinese embassy.
from all walks of life为固定搭配,意为“各行各业的人,各界”符合句意,walk在这个词组中是复数形式,故填walks。
【点睛】介词+名词=该名词副词形式,比如by coincidence=coincidently ,in surprise=surprisingly。 in excitement 和with excitement 都可以表达“激动地,兴奋地”的意思,故填in/with。

Joe, a man who was pushed into a desperate situation by the weight of life’s pressures, walked unsteadily back to his rental home. Blood streaming down from his eyes and forehead. The sky was covered with thick darkness. He had only one thought in mind: return home and sink into a deep sleep.
His business failed several years ago. Then he was trapped in the hardship of pancreatitis (胰腺炎). Yet, fate did not spare him. One day, after falling down in a faint, he was diagnosed with a deadly brain disease inherited from his father. Keeping it a secret from his parents, he struggled to maintain the false image of a normal life. He injected medicine daily, rented a smaller room, and cut his expenses to the lowest, all to save more money to repay debts.
That deep night, he suffered another attack of dizziness and collapsed with his electric bike in a tunnel. His head was injured while falling down, blood shed at the scene. After returning to consciousness, he finally made his way back to his room like a drunk man. He climbed onto the bed and lay motionless, as if waiting for death.
At the same time, some people were looking for him. Officer Simon in the local police station had received several emergency calls reporting that someone had fallen down inside a tunnel and was unable to get up. “I guessed he had drunk too much. He looked very dangerous,” said a passerby.
Three policemen led by Simon responded to the emergency call. They had handled over 20 emergency cases that day and had only eaten dinner at 11 pm. Despite their tiredness, they rushed to the scene, only to find a broken electric bike and some blood on the scene. Through security cameras, they finally traced Joe’s whereabouts and located his rental room at the end of a dark street.

B.She wakes up every morning due to facial pain.
C.She continues knitting despite her health challenges.
D.She is only rewarded with drawings from her daughter.
26.Which of the following words fail to describe Matsouka?
A.Resilient and reserved. B.Optimistic and generous.
C.Persevering and passionate. D.Responsible and sympathetic.
27.What message does the article mainly convey?
A.The eye is bigger than the belly. B.Giving is better than accepting.
C.An early bird catches the worm. D.A rolling stone gathers no moss.

A.Make the Most of Your Journey: Apple Bridges the. Gap
B.Find the Magic of a Moving Vehicle: Apple’s Got! Your Back
C.Enjoy Your Reading: Apple Offers a Revolutionary Solution

32.How does the author present the findings in paragraph 1?
A.By raising a question. B.By making a contrast.
C.By giving an example. D.By listing some figures.
33.What does paragraph 2 tell us?
A.Positive aging beliefs improve MCI. B.Age is essential to cognitive recovery.
C.Questionnaires affect cognitive tests. D.MCI exams can predict aging attitudes.
34.What does the author think of the study?
A.It’s accurate. B.It’s comprehensive.
C.It’s interesting. D.It’s imperfect.
35.Where is the text probably taken from?
A.A travel brochure. B.A historical novel.
C.A research journal. D.A sports newspaper.

Dear Bruce,
I am writing to share my travel experience during the summer vacation with you. It was a delightful journey with my family to the ancient city of Xi’an. We explored the Terracotta Army, which was an astonishing sight, and tasted the local delicacies that were simply mouth- watering. Another highlight was the Xi’an City Wall, where we marveled at its grandeur and felt the historical significance it carries.
The trip was not just about the places we visited but the bond it strengthened among us. It was a blend of adventure, culture, and family time that I will cherish forever. I hope to hear about your summer adventures too!
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
Hearing a hurried knock, Joe weakly opened the door, surprised to see the police.“Are you Joe?” Officer Simon asked anxiously, stepping inside and scanning the dimly lit room. Joe nodded weakly, his eyes still half-closed with exhaustion. The policemen quickly assessed his condition, noting the bloodstains on his clothes and he visible injury on his head. They gently guided him on to the couch and called for an ambulance. As they waited, they comforted Joe, reassuring him that he was safe and that help was on the way. Joe, overwhelmed by the sudden concern, began to sob quietly, feeling a warmth he hadn’t experienced in along time.
The police later shared their rescue experience on social media, drawing more attention. The post quickly went viral, touching the hearts of many, with netizens praising the officers for their dedication and compassion. Donations poured in for Joe’s medical expenses, and volunteers offered to assist with his daily needs. Strangers reached out, offering words of encouragement and hope. Joe, who had long felt abandoned by fate, was touched by the warmth of strangers. With the help of the police and the kindness of netizens, he began to regain hope, starting to rebuild his life. The dark tunnel he once stumbled through became a passage to a brighter future.

26.Which of the following words fail to describe Matsouka?
A.Resilient and reserved. B.Optimistic and generous.

27.What message does the article mainly convey?
