作文一范文:
Dear Henry,
Knowing your interest in Chinese Character Writing Competition organized by our school, I
am very pleased to tell you some details about it.
Aimed at arousing students’ enthusiasm for the art of calligraphy and improving their ability
to appreciate the beauty of Chinese characters, the fantastic event was launched in our school hall
on October 10th, in which many students displayed their impressive talents for writing. As a
participant, I found the competition benefited me considerably. Not only did it enhance my
practical skills of handwriting, but it also gave me an in-depth sight into Chinese character. What a
meaningful and unforgettable event!
Hopefully, my introduction will give you a clear picture of the competition.
Best regards,

作文二范文:
Over the next few weeks, the other boys dropped out of the project. But Freddie kept on.
Some friends laughed at him, thinking it was a waste of time . However, Freddie decided to stick it
out. Even in the heat of summer, he wouldn’t miss one day. Whenever he saw a piece of litter
along the road, he would stop to pick it up and put it into the bags. The first day of the new school
year soon arrived. At the opening ceremony, the headmaster said, "The community has presented a
certificate to one of our pupils in recognition of the work by him. Freddie Forbes, please come
onto the stage."
Hearing his name called by the headmaster, Freddie nervously made his way to the stage. The
headmaster smiled at Freddie. "This certificate you have worked so hard to achieve will hang in
the school office, and you’ll get a personal award too." A teacher came onto the stage, bringing a
jacket that Freddie had desired so much and that he thought he would never wear . The headmaster
asked Freddie to take off his coat and helped him into the jacket. As the pupils who had dropped
out looked on enviously , Freddie knew that collecting waste was certainly not a waste of time.

Have you ever paid close attention to a cloud and noticed its ever-changing forms? If not,
you could be missing out on something quite amazing. Cloud spotting doesn't require much.
Sometimes, it can be an invitation to be amazed by something so common that we've become
blind to it.
A pop science blogger surnamed Zheng, 25, known as the "Cloud Collector" on the lifestyle
platform Xiaohongshu, initially started her account to share cloud photos in 2022. Zheng, who
enjoys finding delight in recording the beauty of daily life, considered it a way to spread lovely
moments to more people.
"Clouds have always served as a source of comfort for me," said Zheng based in Fujian. For
Zheng, one of her most unforgettable cloud-spotting experiences occurred during a flight. It was
the first time that she had seen a special natural phenomenon called a "glory", produced by water
drops in the air. It appeared as a hazy light point in the middle of a circular rainbow halo (圆形彩
虹光环).
"It was such a surprise," Zheng recalled.
As a growing number of online users began to show interest and raise questions, Zheng
realized that she could offer more science content about cloud spotting. So she started to learn
more by referring to specialized books and consulting individuals with expertise in meteorology
(气象学). Zheng has now shared nearly 200 pieces of popular science content, including cloud
identification, formation, comparisons of different cloud types and weather-related knowledge.
Her account now has over 210,000 followers on Xiaohongshu, and there are five group chats
on the platform where thousands of users share their daily cloud-watching experiences. Looking
ahead, Zheng has plans to hold several gallery exhibition and she's gathering more cloud photos
and the unique stories behind them. By doing this, she hopes to inspire more people to appreciate
the beauty of the "gentle white giants" in the sky.
24.What is the main purpose of Zheng's cloud photos sharing?
A.To become famous on social media.
B. To study meteorology professionally.
C. To spread lovely moments to more people.
D. To collect as many cloud photos as possible.
25. What does the term "glory" in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. A type of cloud formation.
B. A popular science term for a circular rainbow halo.
C. A term used to describe the act of sharing cloud photos online.
D. Ameteorological phenomenon caused by water drops in the air.
26. How has Zheng's approach to cloud spotting evolved over time?
A. From a casual hobby to a professional meteorological study.
B. From sharing personal experiences to building a community of enthusiasts.
C. From appreciating clouds to analyzing them from a meteorological perspective.
D. From documenting cloud formations to conducting scientific research on cloud types.
27. What can be inferred about Zheng's future plans?
A. She plans to write a book about cloud spotting.
B. She will focus on increasing her followers on Xiaohongshu.

Anyone who’s ever felt their irresistible urge to dance to their favourite song knows that
combining music and movement can lift your mood and relieve stress. But there’s actually a lot
more happening inside the brain when trying to follow even the simplest choreography(舞蹈编
排).
“In dance, we have to learn patterns, considering both repetitive and varied movements, and
remember sequences,” says David Leventhal, programme director and founding teacher at the
Mark Morris Dance Group. The effect extends beyond the dance class to the real world. Tasks
like navigating the kitchen or walking to the bus stop can become more attainable if they are
regarded as choreography.
While scientists are still learning how the mechanisms of dancing work in the brain, a clearer
picture is beginning to emerge. In 2018, researchers at Otto von Guericke University, did MRI
scans of older adults who had participated in one of two programmes over six months: one group
practised dance and the other did a traditional exercise programme with cycling and strength
training.
Both groups improved their level of physical fitness, but the dancers grew more white and
grey matter in the parts of the brain that are responsible for cognitive(认知的) processes. White
and grey matter typically decline as we get older, making communication in the brain slow down
and certain cognitive tasks, such as multitasking and problem solving, tougher. What’s more, the
dancers showed an increase in blood plasma BDNF, a protein known to play a crucial role in the
development of brain.
Together, the researchers assume, these brain changes contribute to more neuroplasticity,
which is the brain’s ability to form new connections and pathways. Neuroplasticity is similar to
the city’s ability to build new roads, repair old ones or even change the direction of traffic based
on how often the routes are used and what the city needs. Therefore, just as cities adapt and
change over time to meet the needs of people, our brains can reshape and adjust based on our
experiences and learning.
28.How does the author introduce the topic of the text?
A. By showing the emotional benefits of dancing to a favorite song.
B. By presenting a scientific theory about the brain's response to dance.
C. By sharing personal experiences of the challenges of learning choreography.
D. By citing statistics on the number of people who participate in dance programs.
29. What is a potential real-world application of the benefits gained from dancing?
A. Enhancing multitasking skills in the workplace.
B. Increasing focus and attention during everyday chores.
C. Boosting problem-solving skills during leisure activities.
D. Improving navigational abilities in complex environments.
30. What does the fourth paragraph focus on?
A. The overall health benefits of dancing compared to other exercises.
B. The decline of white and grey matter with age and its effects on cognition.
C. The impact of dancing on the brain's cognitive functions and physical fitness.
英语试题 第 4 页 共 8 页
D. The role of plasma BDNF in the brain development of dancers and non-dancers.
31. Why does the author mention a city's ability?
A. To argue for more funding for city’s facilities.
B. To emphasize the importance of brain pathways.
C. To illustrate the changing nature of traffic system.
D. To demonstrate the brain's capacity for change and adaptation.

While there are several easy ways to help protect yourself against mosquito-borne diseases,
there’s another solution that sounds appealing: What if we could just make all the mosquitoes
disappear?
Plenty of research has revealed food webs of bigger mammals, such as lions or leopards.
And for good reason — they’re much easier to observe than tiny mosquitoes, which often breed
in pools of water. Mosquitoes of all ages and sexes serve as a food source for all kinds of
creatures, such as fish, turtles, songbirds, and bats. Moreover, males in many mosquito species eat
only nectar (花蜜), making some species major pollinators (传粉者) of plants such as some crops
and flowers.
Perhaps more than any other animal, bats are often regarded as being the mosquito’s greatest
threat. Surely removing all the mosquitoes would affect bats more than most? Not so, says
Winifred Frick, a bat biologist at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Most bats actually eat
whatever they can catch — mosquitoes, beetles, or otherwise. “There aren’t any bat species that
specialize specifically on mosquitoes,” says Frick. In fact, some mosquito species are most active
during the day, meaning bats would have very few opportunities to feed on them at all.
The disappearance of mosquitoes would have massive consequences for global health,
however. In all, mosquitoes account for more than 700,000 human deaths each year. Mosquitoes
are the primary cause for malaria. But we might not need to wipe out mosquitoes to turn around
the situation. In recent years, researchers have made promising breakthroughs in preventing
disease spreading by infecting mosquitoes with parasitic(寄生的 ) bacteria, which can make
mosquitoes less harmful to other creatures.
And it’s important to remember that not all mosquito species are responsible for the
destructive diseases. In fact, many want nothing to do with us. “There are some species that live
in wetlands that will feed mainly on frogs and other amphibians(两栖动物 ),” says Michael
Hutchinson, a professor in insect research. There are also mosquito species not known to be
bloodsuckers. In fact, they actually hunt other mosquitoes during their early stage.
32.What role do mosquitoes play in the ecosystem according to the article?
A.They are the main food source for bats.
B.They are the primary hunters of frogs and amphibians.
C. They are a food source for various creatures and act as pollinators.
D. They serve as a food source for larger mammals like lions and leopards.
33. What does Winifred Frick say about bats' feeding habits?
A. Bats primarily feed on mosquitoes.
B. Bats are not the food source of mosquitoes.
C. Bats have a dull diet and eat what they are fond of.
D. Not all bat species target mosquitoes as their main food source.

34. What is the author's attitude towards the idea of making all mosquitoes disappear?
A. Tolerant. B. Disapproving. C. Supportive. D. Unconcerned.
35. What would be the best title for this article?
A. Various ways to control Mosquitoes.
B. The Hidden Role of Mosquitoes in Nature.
C. The Complex Impact of Mosquitoes on the food web.
D. The Unintended Consequences of Removing Mosquitoes.

No More Brown Leaves
We’ve all been there before. We’re watering our seemingly healthy houseplant when
suddenly there it is: a little brown on the plant’s leaf. Oh, dear. 36 What can you do to
make them go away? Read on to find out.
If your plant is sporting dark, or brown tips on its leaves, it may mean you need to water
more often. Check the soil moisture(湿度) and slowly reduce the number of days in between
watering. 37
Not enough moisture in the air could also be the cause. Tropical plants prefer higher
moisture levels than we have in our homes. When we turn on the heat in winter, there’s even
less moisture in the air. 38 Or place plants on saucers or trays filled with pebbles and
water. Set a pot on the pebbles above the water, which will keep the air damp around the plant.
A lack of nutrients may be behind the brown tips on leaves of your plant. 39 Without
enough potassium(钾), you may see yellow or brown along older leaf tips and edges, yellowing
between veins, curling leaves, or spotting.
40 Every time you water, a slight emission of fertilizer is produced, providing a
steady flow of nutrients. But depending on the growing conditions and number of plants in the
container, a midseason boost may be needed. Stay on top of your fertilizer applications by
making notes on a calendar.
A. You can also add fertilizer to the soil.
B. Watch your plants for signs of improvement.
C. But what do brown tips on leaves mean for your plant?
D. For potted plants, add a slow-release type of fertilizer to the soil mix before planting.
E. If you need help determining which nutrient is lacking, test the soil at a gardening center.
F. Leaf tips that are brown or reddish could indicate that your plant requires a certain nutrient.
G. Group plants together so that as one loses moisture through leaves, the neighbors benefit.

enviously as each was presented with a certificate of honour and a special jacket for their
contribution to the school's sporting success over the past year. When the next presentation of
special jackets would come around, Freddie knew there was little hope that he would be the
receiver of one of these treasured things.
"I wish you all a happy summer holiday," the headmaster said. "Although most of you will
be going away to sunnier parts, there are still others who will be staying near their home. The
local community has asked the school to undertake a project over the next six weeks to help
clear up litter around the area and separate it for recycling. If anyone is interested, come to my
office and you will be provided with a litter picker, bags and heavy-duty gloves. "
Freddie knew he would be doing nothing over the holiday, so he went to the office along
with four other boys to pick up the equipment needed to gather up the rubbish which littered
the streets around the school. When he arrived home, his mother looked at him curiously as he
placed the equipment on the kitchen table.
"What is this all about?" she asked with a smile on her face. "Mum, I'm a normal pupil
and I'm not very good at sports," he replied." This waste recycling is one way I can contribute
to the good name of the school."
"Just as long as you don't get fed up and stop half way through," said Mum.
"I have made up my mind to stick this out through thick and thin," Freddie said
confidently.
