B A group of middle-aged dads formed a dance team to perform at their kids’ school but unexpectedly gained popularity on social media, having over 300,000 followers-one of them is famous actor Hugh Jackman. The “Outta” Puff Daddys first came together in 2012 in Brighton for a surprise performance at their children’s annual dance show. Having never danced as a job before and ranging in age from 42 to 60, the dads were taught by their kids’ street dance teacher for the surprise performance. They received a good reception, so they decided to carry on permanently. Paul Jukes, 48, said dancing together has enabled the members to get through unemployment and anxiety. “Even though I’m the leader and artistic director of the team, I’m not normally the most confident guy,” said Jukes, whose team name is Jukebox. “If we’re in a party situation, we’re off at the side, but when we’re together, those inhibitions(拘束感) are lost, and we just accept life to the fullest.” The dance team members remember the moment when they surprised their kids at the dance show. “We performed at the Brighton Dome which seats 2,000 people, so for our first live dance performance, it was quite something. We took the roof off,” Jukes said. “The noise was crazy and of course, the kids in the audience were blown away. They were shouting, ‘Hang on a second; that’s your dad.’ Most people might think our kids would be embarrassed by us but none of them had that feeling. All our families and kids were really supportive and really loved it. And it has been considered cool by them to have such a large following on Instagram.” The team has to adapt to its members’ changing bodies as they get older, but that has not stopped them from continuing to dream big, which sets a good example to their kids. 24.What’s special about the dance team? A.It helps with school dance instructions. B.Its members are all inexperienced. C.It regularly posts videos on social media. D.Its members are guided by famous dancers. 25.How has the dance team influenced Paul Jukes? A.It has inspired him to take up new hobbies. B.It has improved his health and leadership skills. C.It has helped him build confidence in a tough time. D.It has strengthened his relationship with his family. 26.How did the kids react to their dads’ dance performance? A.They were amazed and proud of their dads. B.They were embarrassed but showed understanding. C.They considered following Jukebox on social media. D.They joined their dads to complete the performance together. 27.Which of the following is the best title for the text? A.Dancing is beneficial to people of all ages. B.Talented dads celebrate their kids’ interest. C.A dance team is winning popularity among adults. D.A dance team consisting of middle-aged dads goes popular. C I travel a lot, and I find out different ”styles” of directions every time I ask “How can I get to the post office?” Foreign tourists are often confused in Japan because most streets there don’t have names. In Japan, people use landmarks in their directions instead of street names. For example, the Japanese will say to travelers, “Go straight down to the comer. Turn left at the big hotel and go past a fruit market. The post office is across from the bus stop.” In the countryside of the American Midwest, there are not usually many landmarks. There are no mountains, so the land is very flat, and in many places, there are no towns or buildings within miles. Instead of landmarks, people will tell you directions and distances. In Kansas or Iowa, for example, people will say, “Go north two miles. Turn east, and then go another mile.” People in Los Angeles, California. have so idea of distance on the map; they measure distance in time, not miles! “How far away is the post office?” you ask. “Oh,” they answer, “it’s about five minutes from here.” You say, “Yes, but how many miles away is it?” They don’t know. It’s true that a person doesn’t know the answer to your question sometimes. What happens in such a situation? A New Yorker might say, “Sorry, I have no idea.” But in Yucatan, Mexico, no one answers “I don’t know.” People in Yucatan believe that “I don’t know” is impolite. They usually give an answer, often a wrong one. A tourist can get very, very lost in Yucatan! 28.When a tourist asks the Japanese the way to a certain place they usually ________. A.describe the place carefully B.tell him the names of the streets C.show him a map of the place D.refer to recognizable buildings and places 29.Which is the place where people measure distance in time? A.New York. B.Los Angeles. C.Kansas. D.Iowa. 30.People in Yucatan may give a tourist a wrong answer A.for fun B.as a test C.in order to save time D.so as to be polite 31.What can we infer from the text? A.New Yorkers are generally friendly to visitors. B.People have similar understandings of politeness. C.It’s important for travelers to understand cultural differences. D.It’s useful for travelers to know how to ask the way properly. D A new report from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) shows that global animal populations have dropped greatly since 1970. The report is based on information about 5,495 different species of animals around the world. The information was collected by the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), which used it to create what it calls the “Living Planet Index” (LPI). The LPI focuses on vertebrates — animals with backbones, such as birds, fish, and mammals. The LPI report shows that between 1970 and 2020, the average size of these populations dropped by 73%. The LPI can be a little perplexing. It doesn’t show the change in the total number of animals on the planet. Instead, it shows the average change in the size of animal populations since 1970. For example, if one species dropped from 1,000 animals to 500, that’s a 50% drop. If another species dropped from 100,000 to 50,000, that’s also a 50% drop. The number of animals lost in the second population is much higher, but they would both count as a 50% drop for the LPI. But even if the numbers aren’t perfect, scientists agree that animal populations are dropping. And that’s a serious problem. The report shows that populations have dropped in all kinds of habitats (栖息地). Freshwater habitats, such as rivers and lakes, saw the biggest drop, averaging 85%, followed by land animals at 69%. In the oceans, the drop was56%. Geographically, Latin America experienced the greatest loss at 95%, while Africa’s animal populations fell by 76%, and Asia and the Pacific by 60%. Europe and North America had smaller drops, but they still saw a 33% drop since then. Human activities, including habitat destruction, farming, climate change, pollution, and over- hunting, are the primary cause. The WWF calls for urgent action to protect Earth’s wildlife, recommending that 30% of the world’s land, oceans, and freshwater be protected by 2030 and that humans change how they eat, farm, and produce energy. 32.What does the LPI report show? A.The total number of animals on Earth. B.The habitats of different endangered animals. C.The average change in animal population sizes. D.The number of species that have already died out. 33.What does the underlined word “perplexing” in Paragraph 2 probably mean? A.Simple. B.Confusing. C.Exciting. D.Important. 34.Based on the report, which region saw the largest average drop in animal populations? A.Europe. B.Latin America. C.North America. D.Asia and the Pacific. 35.What recommendation does the WWF make to protect wildlife? A.Developing new farming technologies. B.Increasing the number of zoos worldwide. C.Introducing new animal species to endangered areas. D.Caring for the world’s land, oceans, and freshwater. Have you been wishing to put on your hiking shoes and enter the woods for a little backpacking trip, but you’re not sure exactly where to start? But Milo the beagle is also a rescuer. One morning in November 2021, Swift opened her front door in Silver Spring, Maryland, and Milo took off running. Milo ran to the house across the street. He seemed unsatisfied with this house, so he ran to the one next door, Swift on his tail. He started scratching on the front door and Swift was thinking, “Why is he literally trying to break into her house?” She was embarrassed. Not everyone wants a strange dog on their property. But as she tried to drag Milo away, she could hear a sound coming through an open upstairs window. It was a voice yelling “Help!” Hours earlier, around 4 a.m., 85-year-old Sherry Starr had risen from her bed. All of a sudden, standing there between the toilet and the tub, she slipped. She went down-hard-on the tile floor, and got stuck. Starr was scared of dying there. He often does some research in a forest and isolates himself from the outside world. In his college years, Li actively took part in field research with his teachers. After graduation, he joined a gibbon protection organization, where one of his major responsibilities was picking up gibbon feces. Through analyzing the DNA from the feces, researchers can protect them better. So over the past four and a half years, Li has followed gibbons and collected their feces for researchers. Though the work is a bit tiring, it’s meaningful for him. He has never regretted his choice or felt alone. Like Li, Chu Wenwen has also worked to protect animals. As her father is engaged in wildlife research, Chu has long been surrounded by wild animals. After graduating from university in 2017, she decided to follow in her father’s footsteps. She thinks she is lucky to live in such a great era when young people can fulfill their aspirations, and the country strongly supports the nature conservation. Both Li Ruxue and Chu Wenwen set an example to our young generation. We should do our part like them and take part in the action of protecting animals. 根据文章第四段“The World of Art: From Rembrandt to Picasso. And it has been considered cool by them to have such a large following on Instagram.” 故选A项。 27. 文章第一段“A group of middle-aged dads formed a dance team to perform at their kids’ school but unexpectedly gained popularity on social media, having over 300,000 followers-one of them is famous actor Hugh Jackman. The “Outta” Puff Daddys first came together in 2012 in Brighton for a surprise performance at their children’s annual dance show.(一群中年爸爸组成了一个舞蹈队,在孩子的学校表演,但出乎意料地在社交媒体上走红,拥有超过30万粉丝,其中之一是著名演员Hugh Jackman。“Outta” Puff Daddys于2012年在布莱顿首次聚在一起,在他们孩子的年度舞蹈秀上进行了一场惊喜表演。)”对舞蹈队情况进行了总的概述,第二、三段主要讲舞蹈队成员的情况以及舞蹈队对于这些中年爸爸们的积极影响,最后一段讲的是中年爸爸舞蹈队演出现场的情况,纵观全文,可知文章主要讲的是一群中年爸爸组织了一个舞蹈队并走红的故事,所以D项A dance team consisting of middle-aged dads goes popular.(由中年爸爸组成的舞蹈团很受欢迎)作为文章题目最合适,故选D项。 根据第二段中的“Foreign tourists are often confused in Japan because most streets there don’t have names.
