the surrounding area that he believes shows more real local culture."I just open the map app and
see if there are any villages around. If there are,I will go there and see if it's worth traveling
to."Boulanger often hikes or rides a motoreycle with his friends to find hidden scenery around

Many of us start exercising in the hope of losing unwanted pounds.Unquestionably.aiming
to be more active is a good thing. But if the main reason is to lose weight, your resolution could
very well come to nothing.
For starters, exercise is typically useless for weight loss.Take walking for example.A 150-
pound person who walks for 30 minutes will burn,on average, around 140 calories. That's equal
to one can of soda-not exactly a great return on your investment of time and effort. It's much
easier just to skip the soda.
When exercise is added to a diet, the results are equally negligible.Researchers found that a
combination of dieting and exercising generated no greater weight loss than dieting alone after six
months.At 12 months,the diet-and-exercise combination showed an advanced result,but it was
slight about 4 pounds on average.
In studies where exercise has produced meaningful weight loss, participants burned at least
400 to 500 calories per session on five or more days a week.To achieve that,a 150-pound person
would need to walk a minimum of 90 minutes or run 30 minutes per day.In short, sessions need
to go well beyond what most of us are willing or able to do.And even if we manage to make that
much effort, our bodies often compensate (by boosting appetite and slowing down
metabolism(新陈代谢),which over time limit how many pounds we lose,.t
When exercise fails to meet our weight-loss expectations,we often stop working out.
Perhaps the biggest problem with exercising to drop pounds is that it turns physical activity into
punishment-a price we have to pay for a slimmer body. How many times have you heard
someone say "I'll need to do extra exercise"after eating too much?We treat exercise as a form of
self-punishment for being"bad".In this case,we're unlikely to keep doing it for very long. The
conclusion is that we're more likely to treat exercise positively and actually do it when we focus
on our well-being rather than our weight.
28.What does the underlined word "negligible"in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Insignificant.B.Abnormal.
C.Noticeable.D.Challenging
29.What is the purpose of paragraph 4?
A.To add baekgrounds.
B.To make comparisons.
C.To further support the main idea.
D.To recommend some exercise forms.
30.What is the author's main point about exercising to lose weight?
A.Exercise is effective enough for weight loss.
B.Exercise is better than diet for losing weight.
C.Exercise must be combined with diet to work.
D.Exercise for weight loss often causes frustration and quitting.
31.What does the text intend people to do?
A.Avoid exercising if the goal is to lose weight.
B.Exercise more intensely to burn more calories.

C.Combine exercise and diet strictly to lose weight.

The Mekong River is Southeast Asia's longest river. It passes through China,Laos.
Thailand,Myanmar,Cambodia and Vietnam.About 60 million people depend on the river for
food and survival. It is also an important environment for numerous river creatures.Researchers
say a large fish that was thought to have disappeared from Asia's Mekong River has been seen in
the waterway in recent years.
The fish is called a giant salmon carp. The predatory fish can grow to more than
one meter in length and have an identifiable yellow spot surrounding its unique big eyes.A recent
study detailed the most recent sightings of the fish. The lead writer Chheana Chhut said the fish
was seen at least three times between 2020 and 2023.
"The giant salmon carp is like a symbol of the Mekong region,"Chheana recently told The
Associated Press. He was the co-writer with other researchers of a study announcing the findings
in the publication Biological Conservation.Chheana said researchers had believed that the last
confirmed sighting of the fish in the Mekong was in 2005.
But since 2017,biologists following the movements of migratory fish in Cambodia have
developed relationships with local fishing communities. They asked people in the communities to
inform them of any unusual sightings. That process led to the finding that three giant salmon
carps were identified in the Mekong River and a neighboring waterway in Cambodia between 2020
and2023.
Researchers say the sightings give them new hope for the future of the species."This
rediscovery is very thrilling.significant news,"said Zeb Hogan. He is a fish biologist at the
University of Nevada,Reno, who was part of the research team.
But the problems the fish experienced also demonstrate the dangers facing all migratory
species in the Mekong. The huge river faces industrial pollution and overfishing, among other
problems.Brian Eyler is director of the Southeast Asia Program at the Stimson Center in
Washington,D.C.He was not involved in the research.Eyler said one issue is that more than
700 dams are built along the river and neighboring waterways. In addition, there are very few
workable "fish passages"that help species avoid obstructions.
32.What can we know about the giant salmon carps?
A.They were extinct nineteen years ago.
B.They have characteristic physical features.
C.They are the largest fish in the Mekong River.
D.They do not inhabit the Mekong River anymore.
33.How did researchers manage to find the giant salmon carps in the Mekong River?
A.By conducting underwater surveys.
B.By living with fishing communities.
C.By seeking help from local fishermen
D.By using adyanced tracking technology.
34.What is Zeb Hogan's attitude to the reappearance of the giant fish?
A.Indifferent.
B.Tolerant.
C.Critieal.
D.Positive.
35.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.What the researchers will focus on.
B.What threatens the Mekong migratory species.

Oliver loves to read mystery books because he likes to try to solve the mystery himself before
he gets to the end.Solving puzzles is like solving mysteries,so he likes working on puzzles too.
He also likes solving problems.Oliver can usually solve any mystery, puzzle or problem.
One day Oliver's mom was trying to find her glasses.Without her glasses, she could not drive.
This was a problem because she was going to drive Oliver to his friend's house. It was also a mystery
and a puzzle.Oliver was really eager to solve this mystery,so he sat down with his mom.
"Where do you last remember seeing your glasses?"he asked.
"I had them on while I was watching the news this morning."she said.
"Where were you watching the news?"asked Oliver.
His mom thought for a minute, and then she answered that she was in the sitting room. She
remembered sitting in her favorite chair and taking off her glasses when the news ended. She
thought she had placed her glasses on the table, but they weren't there."Are you sure you didn't
put them on again after the morning news?"asked Oliver.
"Maybe I did,"his mom replied.
"Let's walk through your day,Mom,"said Oliver.Oliver had his mom describe everything
she remembered doing during the day so far.She mentioned watching the news, making
breakfast, folding laundry, working in her home office and then gardening. It was after
