Sheffield, the UK’s fourth biggest city, had it all — clubs, bars, and theaters. It was a huge contrast to my hometown, which hadn’t had a cinema until 1997. Sheffield had various choices — I thought I’d love it. But I missed the Wye Valley occasionally. Over time, I settled. Now I’ve lived in Sheffield longer than in my hometown. Yet no matter how happy I am in my adopted city, there’s always a desire to return to Wales. The simple answer is that the idea of home doesn’t necessarily relate to time spent in a place — instead, it is about a special connection and a feeling of safety. “Homesickness usually comes from being somewhere that doesn’t quite feel like home,” says psychologist Wendy Dignan. “As humans, we create a safe zone (地带). Some people may not be particularly attached (依恋) to a place, so they always feel safe. However, others’ safe zone might be a particular place, a home, or a familiar person, the absence of which may lead to homesıckness.” There are things you can help yourself if you are struggling with homesickness. Dignan suggests going to the same coffee shop or gym at a certain time to build a pattern of familiarity because, it is a useful tool for overcoming homesickness and building that all-important safe zone. When so much in our lives is unpredictable, it is no surprise that we crave safe zone. I’m fortunate to have a loving family, supportive friends, and a comfortable home in Sheffield, but however much I love my life here, there’s an inner part of me that will forever be in Wales. 24. Which word can best describe the author’s hometown? A. Underdeveloped. B. Well-designed. C. Well-known. D. Overpopulated. 25. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A. The different types of safe zones. B. The cause for people’s homesickness. C. The value of overcoming homesickness. D. Psychological impacts of homesickness. 26. What does the underlined word “crave” mean in paragraph 4? A. Improve. B. Oppose. C. Support. D. Desire. 27. What can we know from the author’s experience? A. Love often begins in our hometown. B. Homesickness can be easily avoided. C. Hometown means a sense of belonging. D. Never should we leave our hometown. A 25. B 26. D 27. 根据第一段“Sheffield, the UK’s fourth biggest city, had it all — clubs, bars, and theaters. It was a huge contrast to my hometown, which hadn’t had a cinema until 1997.  (谢菲尔德是英国第四大城市,拥有一切——俱乐部、酒吧和剧院。这与我的家乡形成了巨大的对比,我的家乡直到1997年才有电影院) ”可知,作者的家乡欠发达。故选A。 根据第三段“However, others’ safe zone might be a particular place, a home, or a familiar person, the absence of which may lead to homesıckness. (然而,其他人的安全区可能是一个特定的地方,一个家,或一个熟悉的人,没有这些可能会导致思乡症) ”可知,本段主要介绍了导致思乡症的原因。故选B。 【26题详解】 词句猜测题。根据前文“Dignan suggests going to the same coffee shop or gym at a certain time to build a pattern of familiarity because, it is a useful tool for overcoming homesickness and building that all-important safe zone. (Dignan建议在特定的时间去同一家咖啡店或健身房,建立一种熟悉的模式,因为这是克服思乡症和建立最重要的安全区的有用工具) ”可知,前文讲述了在某个地方建立熟悉模式,建立重要的安全区来克服思想症,因此推断画线句句意为:当我们的生活中有如此多的事情是不可预测的时候,我们渴望安全区也就不足为奇了。画线词与D项意思相近,故选D。 【27题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段的“The simple answer is that the idea of home doesn’t necessarily relate to time spent in a place—instead, it is about a special connection and a feeling of safety. (简单的回答是,家的概念并不一定与在一个地方度过的时间有关,相反,它是一种特殊的联系和一种安全感。) ”以及最后一段“I’m fortunate to have a loving family, supportive friends, and a comfortable home in Sheffield, but however much I love my life here, there’s an inner part of me that will forever be in Wales.( 我很幸运,在谢菲尔德有一个充满爱的家庭、支持我的朋友和一个舒适的家,但无论我多么热爱这里的生活,我内心的一部分将永远留在威尔士。)” C。 C Some students get so nervous before a test. They do poorly even if they know the material. Sian Beilock, a professor at the University of Chicago in Illinois, has studied these highly anxious test-takers. The students start worrying about the results. And when they worry, it actually uses up attention and memory resources (资源). Professor Beilock and another researcher, Gerardo Ramirez, have developed a possible solution. Just before an exam, highly anxious test-takers spend ten minutes writing about their worries about the test. The researchers tested the idea on a group of twenty anxious college students. They gave them two short maths tests. After the first one, they asked the students to either sit quietly or write about their feelings about the upcoming second test. Professor Beilock says those who sat quietly scored an average of J2% worse on the second test. But the students who had written about their fears improved their performance by an average of 5%. Next, the researchers used younger students in a biology class. They told them before final exams cither to write about their feelings or to think about things unrelated to the test. Professor Beilock says highly anxious students who did the writing got an average grade of B+, compared to a B- for those who did not. “What we showed is that for students who are highly test-anxious, who’d done our writing intervention (干预), all of a sudden there was no relationship between test anxiety and performance. They were performing just as well as their classmates who don’t normally get nervous in these tests.” But what if students do not have a chance to write about their fears immediately before an exam? Professor Beilock says students can try it themselves at home or in the library and still improve their performance. 28. What may the students start worrying about before an exam? A. Whether they can pass the exams. B. What other students do during the test. C. Whether they have remembered the materials. D. What kind of problems they will meet on the test paper. 29. What is the solution developed by researchers? A. Asking the students to ignore the test. B. Asking the students to focus on the test. C. Asking the students to sit quietly before the test. D. Asking the students to write about their worries before the test. 30. According to Professor Beilock, those who thought about things unrelated to the test ________. A. became less nervous before the test B. were better at controlling their feelings C. did worse than those who wrote about their feelings D. did better than those who wrote about their feelings 31. What can be learned from the last paragraph? A. Writing about our worries before an exam can work a bit B. We can only write about our worries right before an exam. C. The best place to write about our worries is in the test room. D. It doesn’t matter where we write about our worries before an exam. A 29. D 30. C 31. 根据第一段的句子“The students start worrying about the results.(学生们开始担心考试结果。)” 故选A项。 根据第二段“Professor Beilock and another researcher, Gerardo Ramirez, have developed a possible solution. Just before an exam, highly anxious test-takers spend ten minutes writing about their worries about the test.(贝洛克教授和另一位研究员赫拉尔多·拉米雷斯提出了一种可能的解决方案。考试前,高度焦虑的考生花十分钟写下他们对考试的担忧。)”可知,研究人员研究的解决方案是让学生在考试前写下他们的担忧。故选D项。 【30题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段的句子“They told them before final exams cither to write about their feelings or to think about things unrelated to the test. Professor Beilock says highly anxious students who did the writing got an average grade of B+, compared to a B- for those who did not.(他们让学生在期末考试前写下自己的感受,或者想想与考试无关的事情。贝洛克教授说,写感受的高度焦虑的学生平均成绩为B+,而没有写感受的学生平均成绩为B-。 )”可知,那些思考与测试无关的事情的人比那些写下自己感受的人表现的糟糕。故选C项。 【31题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“But what if students do not have a chance to write about their fears immediately before an exam? Professor Beilock says students can try it themselves at home or in the library and still improve their performance.(但是,如果学生没有机会在考试前立即写下他们的恐惧呢?贝洛克教授说,学生们可以在家里或图书馆自己尝试,仍然可以提高他们的成绩。)”可知,考试前我们在哪里把忧虑写出来并不重要。故选D项。 D Organic food is very popular. It is also expensive. Some organic food costs twice as much as nonorganic food. Some parents and pet owners pay up to 200 percent more for organic food while some people think organic food is a waste of money. There is one main difference between organic and non-organic food. Organic farms do not use agricultural chemicals, such as pesticides (杀虫剂). This makes sure that the products are natural. Some people think “organic” means “locally grown”. At the beginning, this was true. Over time organic farming became more difficult. The demand for organic food grew larger than the supply. Small companies had to sell out to large companies. There weren’t enough organic materials. This made it difficult for many organic companies to stay in business. Today, many large companies have an organic line of products. Is organic food more nutritious? This is part of the debate. Many farmers and consumers believe it is. They think agricultural chemicals cause health problems, such as cancer. Many health experts disagree. Few studies prove that organic food prevents health problems. Health experts worry more about bacteria. These can come into contact with organic and non-organic food. Doctors recommend washing produce very carefully. Most people agree that naturally grown food tastes better. Is tastier food worth the extra money? This is a matter of opinion. Whether it is healthier or not may require more research. However, organic consumers argue it is better to be safe than sorry. 32. Which is the NOT the advantage of organic food for most people? A. safe. B. cheap. C. healthy. D. tasty. 33. What is the doctors’ suggestion? A. Reduce the use of pesticides. B. Wash the food very carefully. C. Grow organic food on your own. D. Buy large companies’ products. 34. Which of the following problems about organic food do people debate on? A. It is more nutritious. B. It tastes better. C. It contains more fat. D. It has more bacteria. 35. Where does this text probably come from? A. A chemistry paper. B. A restaurant menu. C. An advertisement. D. A health magazine. B 33. B 34. A 35. Organic food is very popular. It is also expensive.(有机食品很受欢迎。 Is organic food more nutritious? I was three years younger, and I thought she walked on water. Everything she did was perfect, and I wanted to be just like her when I grew up. If she wore her hair in twin braids with a pink clip one day, the next day I wore mine exactly the same way. I used to follow her and her friends around, begging to be included, but there isn’t much room in a thirteen-year-old’s life for a annoying ten-year-old sister. As a result, over time, my worship of her became indifference. We were strangers living in the same house, eating together but never communicating. So when she sat me down last year and told me she’d be going to Israel to study abroad for ten months, I wasn’t too concerned. I figured I would get to wear the clothes she left behind and use her CD player. That was the only way I thought her leaving would affect me. That first night after she left, I sat in my room and tried to do homework. I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong, something was missing. The house was too quiet. No Tova’s CD player and no Tova’s voice giggling on the phone with her friends. Sitting there, I realized just how different it was without her in the house. Even though we didn’t always speak, I had felt safe just knowing she was near. I cried that night. I cried over all the years we had wasted trying to live our own lives and ignoring each other’s. I cried that I couldn’t even give her a hug before she boarded her plane. But as the night wore on, my tears changed to tears of calm, tears of new beginnings. I picked up the phone and called her halfway across the world. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Finally she spoke. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 I picked up the phone and called her halfway across the world.“Hello?”Her voice sounded as if it came from the room nearby and not South Africa.“Hey,Tova. I knew that if I stopped in the middle, I wouldn’t have the courage to continue. “I know we aren’t as close as some sisters, but that doesn’t mean I’m not missing you.”For a long time, there was only silence on the other end. Finally, she spoke. “I’ve been sitting here, all alone, thinking about you back home,” she said. “Your voice makes me feel as if I’m right there with you.” And before she hung up she said, very quickly just as I had, “I love you, too.”I’m counting down the days until my sister returns home, so I can say, “I’m so glad to have you home”. 来自:come from/be from ②.知道:know/be aware of ③.回来:return/come back 情绪类 ①.亲密的:close/intimate ②.高兴的:glad/pleased/cheerful 【点睛】[高分句型1].I knew that if I stopped in the middle, I wouldn’t have the courage to continue. 26. After the first one they asked the students to either sit quietly or write about their feelings about the upcoming second test. A. became less nervous before the test B. were better at controlling their feelings C. did worse than those who wrote about their feelings D. did better than those who wrote about their feelings 31 What can be learned from the last paragraph? A. Writing about our worries before an exam can work a bit B. We can only write about our worries right before an exam. C. The best place to write about our worries is in the test room. D. It doesn’t matter where we write about our worries before an exam. D Organic food is very popular. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Everyone needs friendship to survive. How do we strengthen the existing friendships in our lives? 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 I picked up the phone and called her halfway across the world. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Finally she spoke. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
